The Chequers Pub in Luton

We had a pleasure of working with Chequers who catered for us during a film shoot. We couldn't have had a better experience. They were so helpful, got all the orders right, and the food was impeccable. Thanks so much!

As someone who grew up in a Jamaican household, whose kitchen was run unapologetically by a strict matriarch (my beloved grandmother) I therefore have an unrivalled palate for authentic yard food…and this is it!!!! Chequers food is unrivalled, authentic and served with love. Looking forward to my next trip!

Omg the best food ever, great portion sizes and always cooked to perfection. I keep going back for food every weekend.. it's a must try. You can phone order too I think.

I went there for the first time while waiting for transport from Luton and ordered oxtail soup, an amazing experience, I have never eaten such a soup anywhere before. After 3 years, while visiting family, I visited The Checkers again and we ate oxtail meals. And again, an out of this world experience, the meat and rice were great and the coleslaw was like I've never eaten before.

First time here by drive pass. Very nice atmosphere inside. It’s quite surprise by food promotion each day. Very reasonable price and great taste. You will have a variety selection of food. We are planning to come here next time.

Surreal experience on my first journey to Luton. A shop assistant told me about the place for excellent food and drink. Had a meal I won't be forgetting for a long while. Authentic Carribbean food and vibe, such a friendly place where spoke to all locals, something that no longer happens in London establishments. I'll defo be back, I'd travel just for the food to sample the rest of the menu

Been popping in here for a few years and always welcoming, relaxed and chilled. Food has always been top notch and very generous portions proper home cooked flavour . The stew chicken is amazing! Would highly recommend

Popped in here early evening on a Saturday. The food menu is written on a white board propped-up on the bar which is very handy because as dishes become unavailable they are wiped from the board. Very popular (because by the time my husband and I arrived there were plenty gaps on the menu)! I chose saltfish, rice & peas and my husband opted for the jerk chicken, rice & peas. Huge delicious home-made portions served in an informal bar setting with red stipe - other lagers are available - on tap to wash it all down. Nice to go somewhere unique with friendly regulars enjoying a warm summer's evening in a British Caribbean pub!

Friendly staff , good music , good food and great atmosphere... Would highly recommend this place for friends couples groups .. and don't forget the food is great ! Also is lovely back area , which is brilliant in the summer 🌞

Really friendly and welcoming pub . Staff and customers are glad to see you and chat . £3.20 a pint which is competitive with other pubs. A real plus here is the food , absolutely fantastic. Give it a good is my advice .

We really enjoyed the music but there was a patron that must have thought my wife was there alone and was quite a nuisance. Really left a bad taste in my mouth.

Absolutely the best jerk you will find for miles. Family run, super friendly, lovely people. LEGIT Jerk Chicken. INCREDIBLE Jerk Pork that melts in your mouth. So so good. You can taste the years of experience in their food. AMAZING If you are visiting Luton, this place is a must.

I am quite critical about reviews but this place is worthy of a fabulous one. True Jamaican pub with great food and service. Everyone extremely friendly and welcoming. It caters for all types either typical Jamaican reggae Saturday night or nice family Sunday lunch. Great to see they are doing so well with keeping some of the Jamaican culture local but ensuring longevity.

The music was good..old skool reggae .

Had time between transfers at Luton airport and saw the food was rated at this place so thought I'd take the half hour walk from my hotel. I was not disappointed! Generous portions of home cooked West Indian cuisine: ackee and saltfish and jerk chicken can both be recommended. Soup and mutton also looked good. Friendly atmosphere and staff. A wider selection of beers would have got the extra star - just four lagers and maybe Guinness on draught and sadly nothing on the hand pulls.

Nice local pub .. Had pool and garden.. Last Pub on walk of park street so if thirsty last place to pop into. Descent prices boxes food and family couple and friends welcome.. Not so much for children

A very nice pub and been here for years under many different management. Now it serves up lovely west Indian food. Very clean and tidy pub and the building always looks nice from the outside.

The reggae selection always the same 2 milly more lover rock is needed old school like Dennis brown pat kelly sugar minott etc.

The pub is in need of a renovation but there's a great community vibe here and their Carribbean curries are fantastic.

Nice little pub on Park Street that really know how to throw a Caribbean style birthday bash. Delicious food 🍗🍴 great tunez 🎶 and a great atmosphere 😄 👍 ...and of course very friendly/approachable staff who even remembered what I was drinking when I went up to the bar 😉👌

Unpretentious friendly atmosphere and generous (very fairly priced) portions of traditional Caribbean cooking. The food had a home cooked feel which is a welcome change from the national chains and bistro style establishments we are all used to. Our evening was enhanced by a DJ playing Lovers Rock, Rocksteady, Reggae etc (Saturday evening). We are looking forward to next visit.
