We had Sunday lunch to celebrate two family 60th birthdays. The meal was superb, plenty of variety, the staff friendly and cheerful, and the service was prompt. The Chequers location is in a beautiful location and, in the Summer, there is the option to dine outside in the gardens. Can't wait to visit again.

We arrived at opening time (12pm) as a midpoint on a hike. The pub is very pretty inside and has a good menu. It took until 12.40 for food to arrive to the table but they were generous portions and very tasty (fish and chips; sausage and mash).

The staff are lovely and so is the pub - but the food was very disappointing - packet gnocchi that was undercooked and hard served with a fairly tasteless overly creamy sauce - followed by a cold portion of sticky toffee pudding - sadly will not be rushing back .

To me there is no point in having 5⭐️ food if the service doesn't match. Dining out is the whole experience. Here the service matches the food. We've been dining here for 20 years now and there is a reason for that. The quality of the food is exceptional. As usual it was my wife, 14 year old daughter and myself. Fantastic evening. I had gin cured salmon for starter with rocket salad and beetroot ketchup. It was amazing & we all loved it. Mains for me was a generous piece of cod with new potatoes and a selection of perfectly cooked green vegetables. We had set a rule with our daughter of two courses, but I couldn't have managed a third anyway. My family also loved their meals. The service was not only impeccable but friendly and warm. I don't know how the owners always find such lovely people. They always go above and beyond. I don't want to detract from the great service of every single person on the evening but want to give special thanks to Niamh & Charlie who were fantastic. They made our evening special and enjoyable. They made it such a fun night and made it great. My daughter was made to feel special and I also had great talks with Charlie about wine. If you need guidance on wine choice, ask for Charlie.

As always it is a delight to dine at this pub/restaurant. Beautifully set in a lovely village, with great views of nearby Belvoir Castle when driving there. The menu has a sensible range of options, across the starters, mains and puddings, with good draught beers/lagers, wine and cocktail options. The cheese soufflé is always excellent, light and tasty. The steaks, whether rib-eye or the flat-iron are properly cooked and of good quality. Their fish and chips is clearly (and rightly so) a very popular dish. A good kitchen and talented chef (s). The bar and room lay-out means that even when full (as it often is) you never feel cramped and there is plenty of space between the tables. Really pleasant, local young staff who work hard to please.

We’re long time visitors to The Chequers and although it had been a few months, everything was just as spot on as ever. The rib Chateaubriand was still as good as always, cooked to perfection and the homemade sauce and special request gravy, were beautiful. A fab dinner, in a great atmosphere with lovely attentive staff. It remains our favourite pub. Thank you for having us.

The Chequers Inn, Grantham is a fantastic restaurant with a well thought out menu using only the freshest of local produce beautifully prepared and presented. Clearly there are top kitchen staff behind the scenes who have a real passion for what they do. There is a lovely atmosphere about the place. Take the the fine food, a well thought out wine list with fines wines, add in the excellent service and you have what is a memorable dining experience.

Three of us chose the cheese soufflé to start with. Two were adequate one was burnt and was returned. The replacement was a rush job and very poor. One of us chose the gnocchi with spring vegetables. Generally, it was very tasty, but there was a large proportion of asparagus stems that were totally inedible. We had been recommended this pub and had high expectations. We were very disappointed. The ambience was lovely and the staff were pleasant, but the food certainly didn’t live up to the recommendation. Won’t go back again..

We just cannot fault the place in quality of accommodation (dog friendly), food, service and staff smiles and attentiveness. We had a 2 night stay with breakfast and evening meals. The food was imaginative, well presented and thought out with great flavour and detail. Sunday was HEAVING and thankfully (for us) quietened off on Monday but service was equally high. There are only 4 rooms to stay but soooo tastefully decorated in such a small but not cramped space. I also love it that a sign outside states that dogs are welcome, but children must be well behaved. Class. One more thing - costs were not only reasonable but better than we expected. We were going to give special mentions to staff who were 'over and above' but they all were. Belvoir on the Leics, Notts, Lincs border is a slice of what we all would like to think of as England at it's rural best.

We don't get to go out much so want to go somewhere we can be certain will be good. Our next door neighbour recommended somewhere else locally that they said was great, which we considered for a change, but looked at some of the reviews, and whilst good some didn't suit our family situation. Came back to the Chequers where we feel at home. Yet again had a fantastic evening. Dined early and left by 19:30 which was what we wanted. Food was awesome, every course for all of us. My pork belly main was excellent, don't think you could get better anywhere else. I normally have the steak which is getting a bit big for me now, and doesn't leave enough room for drink after, so not a complaint! I had fish last time which was equally great. My wife and daughter loved their courses. Wine choice and quality great. Ranges from budget to reasonably high end. All good well researched wines. A big part of the experience for me is the quality of service, which was excellent, and friendly. Felt valued and welcomed. Quite young serving staff, who were very professional, polite and friendly. Gives you faith in the young people of today! Can't see a reason to dine anywhere else.

Delicious. Staff are personable, helpful and give concise recommendations whilst also attending to dietary requirements. The non alcoholic cocktails are delicious (as are the alcoholic ones!). Gutted that we had to leave without dessert due to the smallest member of the party falling asleep. Would absolutely visit again and can imagine in the summer the garden space is well used. Very reasonably priced too.

Haven't been for a little while. Felt like coming home to family. My little girl likes to feel grown up and does things like say who we are and when we are booked in, do the orders etc. The owners (who we have known for many years) and all of the staff are fabulous with her, even staff we have not met before, clearly the family values and principles of good service and customer enjoyment flow through all the staff. Very patient with her, and really make her evening, which makes mine. The service all round is second to none. The same goes for the food. I managed to break away from my norm of steak for main course, difficult because it is always great and I like my red wine, but it did leave me room for dessert! I had scallops for starter, large, cooked perfectly and with a great sauce. Main course I had the cod with spinach, fondant potato and leeks. Superb. All went very well with an excellent Sancerre. The wine list is comprehensive, with good quality wines at all price points. Excellent experience all round. Unlike some other places you really feel all of the staff really want you to have a good time and it is important to them, not just a job, and they really strive to do the best that they can do to ensure you have a great experience. So refreshing these days, especially in relation to the younger staff where perhaps you might not expect such an excellent work ethic. Well done all round.

Booked over 2 weeks ago however turned and you could tell weren't actually expected. Waited 30 minutes for our table which was being relaid. Waited a further 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We had 2 vegetarian but no Nut Roast,. One diner had the veggie sausages the other had just veg and Yorkshire pudding. The lunch was warm at best, we were then charged 15.95 for the plate of veg and Yorkshire pudding (one carrot, broccoli, 3 roast potatoes, small spoonful red cabbage and Kale) the bill was wrong and had to be amended. The service overall was unfriendly and underwhelming. Would not return

Had previously been rather impressed with the cooking and left a positive review here before. However several dinners eaten here over the Xmas period left a lot to be desired on the food front. We assumed it was due to the busy Xmas season and the demands on the kitchen. . However lunch today during much quieter January and the food is just really average. Liver parfait looks like cat food and risotto that seems as if it's straight out of a packet. Where has the chef gone? Disappointing.

Came here for dinner, hadn't been for about 9 months. Got a drink at the bar then seated in the snug to the left round the back. Felt a little bit " left out" and although there were other people there, it took 20mins for our order to be taken! Not a good start I thought, but from then everything was fine. The scallops to start were perfectly cooked and I had the southern friend chicken burger which had a delicious bbq sauce, more of that please. All washed down with a bottle of Albarinho.

We are regulars to the Chequers for a nice dinner out or a special occasion and have always had a fabulous meal here. The place is an interesting rabbit warren of rooms and a lovely snug bar with an open fire, plus lots of outside space in the garden. The sharing steak is always beautifully cooked (actually we like it very rare which they achieve every time) and the accompaniments are lovely. It’s a lovely treat having dinner at the Chequers. The wine list and excellent draft beers are extensive, plus if you wish to stay over, the rooms with a lovely breakfast are very nicely designed. It has a warm atmosphere and the staff are great. Lovely little pub restaurant less than 2 miles from Belvoir Castle, so very convenient to get something to eat after a trip there. Would recommend booking ahead as, even though there were only two of us on a Monday lunchtime, they were uncertain if they would be able to fit us in. Lovely old fashioned pub/restaurant with excellent rooms to stay overnight. Service at bar and for meals is excellent. I stayed in the upstairs room which is decorated beautifully with an enormous bathroom with a large bath and walk-in shower. Having tickets for the Fireworks competition at Belvoir Castle, we wanted to eat somewhere convenient before we could go into the park. The Chequers couldn’t have been any more convenient being 5 minutes away. There’s acres of grass parking at the rear of the pub with plenty of bench / table seating both on the grass and at the side of the pub. There was a wedding at the opposite side of the pub from the entrance and we did consider that this might impact the serving of food. When we sat down and both ordered gluten free fish and chips, it was evident that the catering side wasn’t in any way compromised by the need to deal with the wedding party as our food came quickly. The cider battered fish was moist and the batter thin and crispy; delicious. The restaurant rooms inside were small and cosy and this is what you think a local should look like, only wish it was ours.

Lovely atmospheric inn with log fires in a village close to Belvoir Castle. Food was outstanding and the service just right. Dogs can go too as long as you eat in the bar area and booking would always be advisable.

They nail it every time. Great food, possibly best steak EVAH, good veggie options. Great ambience and friendly but professional service. It’s not cheap but quality isn’t. Treat yourselves.

Delighted to have two excellent vegetarian options for main course. We had halloumi and mushroom burgers and root vegetable shepherd's pie. Delicious! Tasty puddings, good wine and friendly service.

We dropped in here for our birthday meals as December sees both my wife and my birthdays.Again the Chequers delivered a wonderful meal and dining experience. We had the rib of beef and it was divine. Melt in your mouth meat, with proper, I mean, proper béarnaise sauce, obviously made from scratch.Good ale and wines made for a lovely lunch.

We stayed at the Chequers following a visit to the Belvoir Castle Regency Chrustmas. The welcome and wood were excellent. We had the fillet steaks which were good quality and cooked perfectly. The service and ambience were both good and we hope to return.

A welcoming sight whilst on a walk. What a fabulous old (but with a modern twist) pub. We felt very welcomed by the staff and enjoyed a nice beer. The restaurant area was so cosy. We sat in the bar area which was fab. It’s private dining and party rooms looked so nice.

Great food as usual. Sat opposite the open fire which on a cold night was lovely. The pies are always a winner and the chicken, leek and tarragon we tried was delicious with gravy. Washed down with a nice bottle of Pinot Noir. Service a bit hit and miss tonight, which is not the norm, but we will be back.

Where do I start? There are so many positives to choosing The Chequers for your romantic meal, family gathering or, as was for us, a special day.The ambience; a beautiful cosy country pub/house with a soothing intimate feel and lots of interesting nooks to explore. The event room is spacious with warm oak wooden floors, large glass paned bi-folding doors outlooking to beautiful gardens, a 360 vision of loveliness. Log fires for those colder evenings or garden seating for summer. The venue room; our wedding was in November and we chose a candle lit, intimate feeling with autumnal colours complemented by their warm oak wood flooring and soft lighting. The fires burned beautifully adding to the charm. The booze; a large selection of delicious wines, whiskey for the connoisseurs and an array of gins; not forgetting a few classy cocktails for that little extra sass! The food; insanely tasty! I am actually planning to rebook just for the food and I am probably not the first bride who kept booking for food (just to go over things one more time ha!). We sat 62 guests and every single meal was hot, tasty and served in a timely fashion. I must admit I was nervous that a pub would manage a large party when it came to serving hot delicious meals but they were fantastic! Beautiful food and professionally executed! One of our guests is a talented chef who commented how lovely it was to enjoy such high standard food and be on the other side of the kitchens. The rooms; guests and the happy couple (us) enjoyed every room. Cleaned to a high standard, beautifully and tastefully decorated. It was a real treat away from home to stay here and boy did I love that deep bath tub!!The team; all incredibly supportive, friendly and professional. I could not have asked for anything more, they were with me every step of the way! Last but by far not least, Jo (The owner/manager). Jo is incredible, she took everything in her stride, catering for every whim, last minute tweaks and knowing from experience exactly what I needed when even I didn't know. She appeared at exactly the right moments with a steady hand. When the nerves kicked in, she was there with a reassuring smile (reminded me to BREATHE) and off I went down the aisle! Our day was perfect and I am 100% happy that I chose The Chequers Team to make it so.

Interestingly and totally incongruous with establishments such as The Tobie Norris/Patens/The George. That’s the rich pageant that is Stamford. Worryingly, I also saw a neighbour’s son, who is only 17 imbibing alcohol with some of his friends, also undoubtedly under age. Tut tut…

A lovely tradition village pub in the Lincolnshire countryside a short walk from the Travelodge by the A1 at Grantham. A chance to work up an appetite to enjoy the excellent food and local real ale! The pub was busy for a weeknight and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We were quickly shown to our table, drinks were delivered with a smile and our food order taken. The menu has traditional pub food with good vegetarian and gluten free options for many of the dishes. We both chose the steak and ale pie, which came with fresh vegetables and chips but new potatoes or mash were available. The pie was a real pie with the filling cooked with the pastry and there was a tasty soggy bottom and lots of gravy with beautifully tender beef. We ordered the traditional spotty dick and custard. All the food was quickly delivered and piping hot! Had a really lovely evening. Thank you Check out their website for menu details and Facebook!

Visited at lunch time on a Saturday (12 October). Party of six friends and we couldn’t choose because the menu was so vast, and it all sounded so delicious. There was also a specials board with a wide range of dishes to choose from. When we finally decided, the food came pretty quickly and the portions were extremely generous. The food we had was outstanding and cooked with love and passion. Serving staff were so polite and checked on us a couple of times. And the prices were extremely reasonable too. Couldn’t fault it. Great pub with wonderful food and staff.
