Sadly, The Rose has closed down, and is now all boarded up. There had been a "For Sale" notice last month, but even this has gone. From a local resident.

The food was plentiful but being the only diners in such a large dining room was a biut of a strange feeling on a saturday night. The food was very good though and the service friendly.

We discovered this pub not long after we had moved to the area. The atmosphere is really welcoming even when empty. It's got a lovely homely feel to it and the staff are really friendly. We have been back a few times now and even visited in the evening in the middle of our evening walks with the dog for a break and pint.

5 of us went here today as a last treat with sister before returning to ipswich hoping that they didnt just do sunday lunch and lucky for us they didn't! but if you want a SUPERB one this is the place.it was hot freshly cooked LOVELY beef PROPER thick slices and not TOUGH we opted for the larger versions and a cauliflower cheese to share as a really fussy person i would have prefered the roast potatoes slightly larger and crisper! the ones in our party who had the burgers said they were good too.if you want a great homemade style roast GO.Keep up these standards and you should keep many customers happy!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat after a busy day at work and was meet by friendly staff who couldn't be more helpful. As it was a tuesday and before 7:30pm I had the choice of over 15 main meals for only £5.95 as part of their early bird menu. I selected the cumberland sausage & mash, which was tasty and really filling. A meal and a pint for under £10 is fantastic value for money and i will definitely be visiting again soon.

On saturday we decided to give the rose a try so booked a table for sunday lunch at 4pm for four of us. We arrived at 3.30pm and shown straight to the table there was only one other table occupied. We were then told that there were no sunday roasts left and would have to order from the normal menu. we were asked what we wanted to drink my wife ordered a chardonnay and was told they didnt have any so she settled for a Pinot. We were then told that there were three roasts left but one of us would have to order from the normal menu. Our friend ordered sausage and mash and was told there was no mash left. We then said that in that case we would have our drinks and leave. Nobody offered any apoligy for the lack of food and we were made to feel very unwelcome. We paid for the drinks and left to go up the road to The Goat where we had a good meal. We all live in Deeping but will not be going to The Rose agiain.

We have just returned from a most enjoyable evening at The Rose Inn in frognall and I felt compelled to write this review immediately! The staff were warm and welcoming on arrival and quickly found us a table even though we hadn't booked, our waitress recommended the surf & turf and explained that most of their meat is sourced from the local Grasmere Farm, the specials were also home made ( what a pleasant change! )My wife opted for the salmon and chorizo salad and I had the recommended surf & turf, both of which were absolutely delicious, as I said the best pub meal I've had in years!.Well done to the new team at The Rose Inn we will definitely be returning and recommending you to friends and family, keep up the hard work!.

This evening my partner and I decided to bike to the rose for a drink and see what it was like since undergoing new management.we went in the bar, where there was no staff or customers, however there was a few people sat outside,we waited at the bar for 10 minutes and had still not been served so decided to leave,as we were leaving we noticed the the bar man(with a rose logo on his black polo shirt) having a drink outside with a group of people. I would like to say this was a one off but when I told my mum about this and she said her friends had a similar experience not so long ago .Needless to say we shall not be returning, and I doubt a lot of other people will be if this is the sort of service they receive.

Hearing there was a new 'team' at The Rose we thought it worth a try. As my family were visiting we took him, his wife and 4year old daughter to celebrate my sons birthday. We went Tuesday night having booked a table for 6.30pm and were really hopeful that, with the new team, eating at The Rose would be a pleasant experience. Apart from the food, which I have to say was well cooked and hot, albeit a very limited menu, there were lots of things that need to be improved quickly if the new team want to make a success of their venture. When I ordered my Gin & Tonic I was told they had run out of ice, as there were no optics the Gin was poured out by hand, probably into a measuring cup but as this was done completely out of my sight I have no idea what sort of measure I got. When we were handed our menu's we were then told that 2 of the meals were not available as they had 'run out' due to a very busy Monday and there were only 2 gammon steaks left also. Then we were handed the children's menu and when we ordered fish fingers, chips & beans were told they had also run out of beans. By this time frustration was setting in. The food arrived and as I said it was well cooked and hot, so that was fine - until the desert menu arrived with all 3 choices one of which one was ice cream. Unfortunately the lemon tart had run out so that left us a choice of 2! We were not asked if we would like coffee and so we just asked for the bill. Even that wasn't straightforward as when that arrived it only had the total price on it. I asked for an itemised bill and was told that they hadn't worked out how to use the till but they would bring me the menu and I could work it out for myself. I then asked for a hand written itemised bill. Ten minutes later we got our itemised bill from the till which evidently had now been mastered. Needless to say we will not be returning anytime soon. What a disappointment.

The Rose Inn is a great little village pub just out of Market Deeping. I had my Sunday lunch there two weeks ago and felt compelled to write a review as it was so good! They offer table service instead of carvery and for me that's what I prefer, the waitress was friendly and took my order within 5 mins and when the food arrived the food looked and tasted great! There was more than enough food with a nice choice of meats and the potatoes were the best.Highly recommend a visit to the Rose Inn as they serve food daily and evenings and have a lovely outdoor area for the kids to play.

It's one of our locals and its been a long time since we have frequented the venue as past experience has been tainted by quality and service........BUT What a difference new management makes, it's welcoming, light and friendly. The menu choice is good without being extensive. All our party enjoyed the food from starters to desserts the food is excellent and portions just rightThis is how good pub food should beWell worth a try if you are close by

In the space of a week the new team at the Rose at Frognall have transformed the Pub - they have cleaned, painted, repaired and taken down the hideous shed at the front that previously marred the view of this lovely old building. I tasted the best pavlova I have ever eaten - loved the selection of delicious salads on the menu and really enjoyed the warm welcome by a young team who can teach many older landlords a thing or two about customer service! Brilliant - have already booked the Frognall Residents Christmas Dinner in!

The pub is under new management and boy can you tell. It is now clean bright and open. The staff are friendly helpful and welcoming and the food was excellent and competitively priced. I was delighted to see a selection of real ales too. All in all a vast iumprovement on the previous regime and a must go if living locally. Highly recommended.

A large group of us drank and ate here in December and to say we were deeply disappointed is a significant understatement. In order to clarify why we were so dissatisfied then as I usually do I will break down into individual elements:Ambience and FacilitiesTired and worn out with some investment requirted to bring the pub to an acceptable standard. The bar area in particular looks very worn out and the toilet facilites are woefully inadequate. The overall décor is shabby and worn.Staff - Lack the most basic skillsBar staff are poorly trained and minus the experience and attitude required to successfully sell product and create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. A good example of this is the response to customer complaints (see below!) with the standard reaction of a blank expression and a 'what do you expect me to do' attitude. This is the only establishment I have visited that has had staff that found it acceptable to serve Glayva and coke in a half filled half pint beer glass. The food servers/waitresses were 'OK' but so obviously deployed the 'wait until customers have finished eating before asking if everything is OK' technique. As the restaurant was empty this really was so obvious!Bar - A total Joke!It proved impossible for any of our drink orders to be fulfilled due to the number of drinks that were out of stock. Here is a list of drinks we attempted to order and the bar tenders response.Guiness - 'Nah, weve run out.......... its the brewery'San Miguel - 'Sorry we are out'Drambuie - 'Errrrrr I dont think we have that'Red wine - 'Hmmmm we are out of that......' Followed by a loud instruction asking one of the waitresses to take £20 from the till, pop to the shop and get four bottles of red. Well at least that declared their profit margin!!Tia maria and coke - 'Sorry we are out of that'Glayva and coke - After much head scratching the bartender said he didn't have any which was extremely comical to hear his earnest tones with a bottle in plain view over his right shoulder! I pointed this out which led to the half pint beer glass faux pas.FoodDeciding to skip the carvery I went for the scampi and chips which basically comprised frozen scampi and oven chips with a bit of side salad. very disappointing. The other non carvery and veg option was Beef in ale pie which a friend of mine had. Actually three of us attempted to order that but the pub only had two portions left. I am glad I didn't have the pie to be honest as it comprised a re-heated portion complete with half inch thick ballistic grade pastry and huge cubes of tough meat. Served with a pile of oven chips this again was a poor effort. The carvery food looked OK but lets be honest if a restaurant cant cook some meat and keep some veg warm its a poor do.In ClosingThis establishment needs a total refresh in all respects and the final comment should be left to a colleague of mine who lives in Deeping St James. When he heard that I had eaten at the Rose his immediate response was....... 'Oh that's a shame.... you have my sympathies'.

This was probably our 3rd or 4th visit to the Rose for sunday lunch. The lunch was superb and you can choose a regular or large plate, depending on your appetite. The large plate lunch is priced at £7.50 which is good value. We had the roast beef which was plentiful and very tender and cooked just right. You then help yourself to vegetables,a good variety was available and again were cooked just right.Starters and sweets are also available, along with other non-sunday lunch pub food and vegetarian alternatives. The only problem we had is that the drinks available were not too good. Two beers I asked for were not available and my wife's wine was pretty awful.I gather that the pub is up for sale/lease and that they are only ordering supplies as required. All in all,a worthwhile visit with a great lunch.

Stayed here when visiting friends. As you will see from the photographs, it is very poorly kept. There was a very large spider when we arrived and the person who booked us in was less than friendly. Food was okay although no breakfast was provided. Would not recommend this place at all. Heating also went on the blink so we were brought an electric heater until they could fix the boiler. Money needs to be spent here urgently.

Popped in on a Sunday to try their sunday lunch . Will definitely go back . Lots of veg , choice of beef or pork. Other dishes available on their chalkboard including vegetarian. Service was very good . Please give it a go , you won't be disappointed. Also , the bar has a great choice of ales which are in great nick.

Seems very quiet and uninviting since the Assistant Manager left to run her own pub. I would travel to her new pub but its 80 miles away! There's no conversation or interaction from staff, no engagement, just a very quiet sterile atmosphere in the bar area. Sure food is great but I visit for a pub experience not restaurant.

Love this place, we usually visit weekends, afternoon/early evening. Friendly atmosphere. Traditional old English boozer in the historic area of the town, with real fires in the winter. Sports on the telly but not "in your face", there's plenty of nooks and crannies for chatting with mates. Usually about 3 real ales to choose from, plus the expected lagers etc.
