What a delightful pub. We were in the area and wanted somewhere to stop for lunch. Staff were warm and very helpful. Food was lovely and very well priced. The atmosphere was charming. Shame we don't live in the area or this would easily become a 'local' for us. A five star 🌟 gem !

We had a lovely Sunday lunch, beautiful food, plenty on the plate, very nice staff nothing too much trouble, well recommend, we'll be going back.

Pop in here for lunch after visiting Teapot Island (see Seperate review). A beautiful day seating outside but we chose to sit in as it was too warm outside for us. A weekday lunch, not too busy, we quickly got our drinks, a good selection of beers, & took our menus. The food was freshly cooked & took around 45 minutes, but it was worth waiting for. Between us we had stir fry & more traditional "pub grub", chose against desert, although, so so tempting. Service was good & will certainly pay it a return visit

What a wonderful pub!!! Made to feel welcome by staff and regulars. The food was amazing!! Arrived on Sunday and had Sunday lunch. Portions are huge and food was gorgeous . Had lunch the following day which was equally as tasty. Highly recommend.

A 15th century inn with a spacious beer garden at the back. The best thing about our visit today though were the staff who were helpful and welcoming. Our server went the extra mile to provide extra information on walks in the area, which was really appreciated.

Thursday is SAUSAGE day, quality bangers - at least 6 various flavours to mix and match. Keep an eye out for pie week, that us worth the visit as well. Beer is good, I like the Timothy Taylors. Just give it a try.

We spotted a sign for the pub on our drive home cross country from Maidstone to the south coast. We were very lucky to get a table for lunch on Easter Friday, the food and service was great, good varied menu with sizeable portions and good value for money too. Good range of real ales on tap, wines, selection of non alcoholic beers and soft drinks. Highly recommended.

We had lunch there with friends, good menu choice and a special board. Food cooked very well and at a reasonable price. Good ale selection and a friendly welcome. Will come again.

Visited as a party of 7 to celebrate son-in-law's promotion to Sergeant in Kent Police, and his sister's birthday. The food was excellent, and generous in portion size. The pub was very busy on this Sunday afternoon, but we had a lovely table and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Staff very attentive, and keen that we have a good time, and they accommodated the helium balloon array that we took with us. Many thanks to staff and landlord for an excellent celebration. This is the epitome of an excellent village pub; lots of friendly people and happy chatter in a very inviting atmosphere, not swamped by loud music.

We have gone for Burns Night fo the past two years. Fantastic nights entertainment and food at a very reasonable price. Lovely staff and venue. We walk to this pub from East Peckham frequently and would consider it our local notwithstanding the distance c. 2 to 3 miles

Good pub food. Nice service. The steak and ale pie had a crust that we all found too tough. At another pub we had a puff pastry top, which is tastier.

Lovely friendly old fashioned pub . Dogs allowed . Friendly locals. Fantastically festive with log fire and beautiful decorations. We had an adult family meal . Normal pub grub with some extras . Huge portions. Good fresh veg and home made . Everything clean and tidy , staff friendly and helpful. Will return .

We stopped here as yhe the halfway point on a family bike ride and was not disappointed. Arrived to a friendly welcome. Menu had a good selection, and there was a specials board. The portion sizes are good and the food was very nice. Service was really good, really made to feel welcome. Will definitely visit again maybe on another sunny bike ride or just for some drinks in the beer garden.

Sunday roast was not one of the best we have had but good for the price. Real ales had good choice and wine was good and a very good price. Staff were very pleasant and friendly and we would definitely be back.

Visited here yesterday for Pies and Puddings week , had a really tasty bacon and onion Suet Pudding , my friends had Fish Pie and Steak Pie ( also so much other choice on the menu too apart from Pies etc ) Food and Service was excellent , so good we went back again today ! Really lovely pub and so friendly . Home Cooked Food at its best . Absolutely delicious desserts too .

On Monday 5th Dec me and my friend tried one of The Chequers festive afternoon tea. Wow! What a fabulous treat and I have had many afternoon in hotels and pubs and this one was by far the best. The food was fabulous and plentiful. I am a vegetarian and that was catered for with no fuss. There was a mixture of savoury and sweet treats and the service was exceptional.. Tracy herself came over and told us everything we had on our afternoon tea and the waitress ( sorry- I did not catch her name) was very attentive. This was excellent value and I have recommended to lots of friends. The pub had such a lovely atmosphere and on a Monday afternoon was busy and buzzing. Thank you so much The Chequers - we will be back. It is easy to see what a successful pub Tracy and Charley run. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is such a brilliant place with a lively calendar of events that puts it at the heart of the community in a way that is truly special. Charles, Tracey and their team work hard to make it welcoming to all, with a delicious menu of drinks and food. It’s always one of my favourite places to go.

Lovely pub and location with friendly service. Unfortunately the lunchtime salt beef sandwich I had for lunch was awful. Let’s hope it was just a one off.

Had a lovely fish and chips with mushrooms. My friend had a veggie burger with chips. He then had a rhubarb pie with custard and coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed. Service excellent and congratulations to the Chef. We will be back!

Brilliant evening but only because of the Morris Dancers! Limited menu and food very "average". Be careful of being overcharged as I had read reviews of this happening previously and was then overcharged myself by £17.50! This was rectified after I queried it.

Ample parking, large garden, ancient wooden beams and wooden floor, choice of ales, good humoured staff. The list goes on, with boxes being ticked. What's not to like? If you're planning on eating you can also check the Menu online to see options and prices.

Great village pub. Definitely visit on Sausage Thursdays, great tasting bangers with nice variety to choose from. Plus of course a good selection of ales.

When you arrive the pub is very pleasant and still old. The food is nice and there is plenty of choice. The garden needs tidying. We sat outside as we took our dog. We could have sat inside but the weather was very nice. If they sort the garden out it will be nice.

We had Sunday dinner for 6. The service was slow, and once we had ordered the food took a very long time to come out. When it eventially did, the meals were cold. The waiter took them away and microwaved them but they were then overcooked and not nice at all. Out first and last visit.

Booked a table as we had family over for the day. Had a couple of meals here and the food has been good, so thought we would try the roast. Very disappointed as we ordered the food after a long wait it came out, but all 6 meals were cold. We mentioned this to a member of staff and they took all the meals back and reheated them up. I would probably return but not for the Sunday menu.

This is a charming ancient village pub/restaurant with a great ambience and friendly attentive staff . there is a good menu and good beers.I would recommend booking and there is (limited) peaking outside. I will certainly visit and eat here again.

Always have a great time here. The annual sausage week is always enjoyed by the ladies. Harvey's beer and a great special menu are proof that Charles and Tracey know how to provide that special local pub experience. I need six stars!!

It's okay! My wife chose the pub because of the good reviews and pictures of the playground area. My pie was great but the mash was certainly not. We had chips just before the meal and they were really nice. So perhaps when choosing food, opt for anything that comes with chips. My 4 year old son really enjoyed the playground and the locals and staff were all smiley and friendly.

We have been here lots of times and generally very good. Was suprised to get a table on a Saturday evening but very greatful as we had moved on from another pub along the road with extremely poor service that we left before food! Choice...

Awesome beer garden with play area! Don't be fooled by the front of the pub! It's got a big spacious garden with lots of pleasant seating and two slide/play areas, perfect for families and the grub is excellent good hearty pub food x

we paid 58 pounds and i ordered a big sized chip but what can astonished me, i got a little kids sized plate and the rest of my family got barely anything, do not go the price is over them amount its worth

Had the most wonderful afternoon tea. The selection was amazing with not only sandwiches but homemade sausage rolls, pork pies and scotch eggs and the cake selection was delightful too. All at a very reasonable price. Highly recommend. Thanks.

We had a few beers in the lovely garden and then took away a fabulous cream tea for two. All freshly prepared....with lots of homemade items.....tasted great and very good value for money. Do try it.....2 x options.....sweet or savoury.

Ordered afternoon tea to takeaway and it was beautiful! Lots of different treats both sweet and savoury all presented beautifully. Tasted great and made Easter Sunday in the sunshine just perfect!!! Would highly recommend and will definately order again!!!

Delicious takeaway afternoon tea which was the perfect birthday treat for our daughter. Plenty to eat: sandwiches, pork pie, sausage roll, gherkins, silver onions, mini cheesecake, bara brith, pots of scrumptious pudding, scones with cream & jam etc etc. Highly recommend.
