Cavendish Tea Rooms in Maidstone

Just happened to bump into the owners Darren & Claire, who said they owned the Cavendish.. We went today for a birthday breakfast. Luckily we had booked a table, the place was very busy, always a good sign. You order and pay at the counter, and then your order is brought over to your table. Extensive menu, and you can order extra breakfast items. I had a toasted bacon sandwich with halloumi and avocado. It was delicious! Hubby ordered the bacon stack pancakes. The place was clean and tidy, there is a toilet, again clean and tidy, and there is a car park, but spaces are limited, but you can park on the road, if you can find a space. There is outside seating when appropriate but there is plenty of seating inside, but I would suggest booking as this is obviously THE place to go! We had a lovely welcome from Darren & Claire, and the rest of the staff are friendly. Very good value for money and we will definitely be back! A great start to a birthday!

Visited today for a catch up with family! It was so lovely, the staff went above and beyond, were so chatty and friendly. We had dietary needs for one of us and spoke to a lady called Claire who ensured a delicious breakfast was still available for them 🙂 nicest sausages i have ever had on a breakfast and portions perfect for the price. We enjoyed it so much we booked in for Mother’s Day afternoon tea Claire told us about. We will be back next week as we struggle to find somewhere that caters for us all including dietary needs and had a great experience! Great location, staff and food 10/10.

One of my favourites....never fails to deliver a lovely meal. My only suggestions for improvement would be an all day breakfast and Sunday opening!

Really shocked at the last few reviews as we visited today and wow we are really impressed I had to come on here to share! I visited with children and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. The food was fresh and delicious and they had great lunchbox selection for kids. Nicest coffee I have had in a longtime. Love the decor and very clean inside. Next time I am in the area I will 100% be visiting again. Couldn’t resist taking a cake home for later also 😍

Excellent food at a reasonable price. Only negative is the noise of the other customers, probably due to the low ceiling.

We had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup very nice but lacking in the maple syrup department needed more. Also waited for a piece of bakewell tart a little to long hubby had to go to the counter and get it. Tea and coffee great

Good food and drinks reasonably priced

We had Afternoon tea yesterday and I felt compelled to add a review. The service was warm and friendly, the food superb and I would not hesitate to recommend this place going forward. A thoroughly enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Thought we’d get some breakfast here rather than Costa to support a smaller business, but ended up waiting at least 15 minutes for just a tea and coffee and then an hour for our breakfast. The staff seemed friendly enough, but it would have been nice to know that there was a wait or some compensation rather than having to ask whether our meal was even coming. By the time it arrived, we had finished our drinks ages before plus I could barely eat any of the bacon as it was cooked to a complete hard crisp. They even served people who had ordered after us before us. Hopefully it was just an off day, but they seemed to blame it on the fact that multiple people were getting fried eggs which I don’t feel warrants an hour’s wait.

Small little coffee shop with great service and food. The hot chocolate is a must try.Only caveat is that they close early. Wish they were open a little longer.

Food was well portioned. Service 25 mins. Friday lunchtime,not full. No nice homemade sponge cakes for a treat.

UPDATED HAD LUNCH WITH 7 CHUMS AND ALTHOUGH THE CAVENDISH WAS DO BUSY, WE COULDN'T FAULT ANYTHING. CONTINUED THANKS. Just walked my puppy at Bearsted Woodland Trust and noticed the umbrellas and tables,having bypassed that well- known coffee place OTR. So pleased we stopped. Delicious bakes and tasty coffee. Plus a dog bowl. So it's a big thumbs up from us. Thank you. Brought the grandbeans here for lunch. Everyone was so accommodating and careful with the children's allergy requirements. I had an amazing afternoon tea here for an early Mother's Day treat. Food was phenomenal, service excellent, and the atmosphere wonderful. Would highly recommend the Cavendish!!

I received took is group of older friends to The Cavendish for coffee and cake. I used to visit quite a lot but have not been there since the owner took over which I think was a while ago now. . What a wonderful warm welcome we all received. The table of 10 had been reserved as requested. The cakes were absolutely divine and cheese scones the best I’ve ever tasted. The staff were so lovely, we will 100% be returning. Thank you all for making our morning so enjoyable.

Afternoon tea with my daughter and friends. Fabulous selection of sandwiches rolls quiche sausage rolls followed by scones and cakes. Unlimited tea offered by super friendly staff. Highly recommend.

Usually a great place, but this morning rather self absorbed. It was a staff member’s birthday and the girls clearly had big plans. As we ordered they decorated, the girl serving us fixing a banner with throughly ink stained hands. We were in good spirits and sang along when after singing happy birthday once they put the music over the speakers and got the cafe to sing it again. Of about 6 staff members, 4 were fawning over her cake, looking through her gifts in the kitchen and still decorating. Our coffees were cold by the time the food arrived. The food itself was cold. Cold toast, lukewarm grilled tomatoes and peppers that were ambiguously middling in temperature. We’d waited some 20 minutes after the coffees for this food and even asked if they’d forgotten us. We were informed this was standard practise as if it was a regular standard of industry service. Disappointed. High spirits as we came in turned to low. Notice that they will discredit this review by calling it fake. They have done this for all of the others on this page. Let this speak for itself.

My daughters were let down last minute with another company for takeaway afternoon tea so rang The Cavendish and they went above and beyond to accommodate. It was part of a treat package for my 60th and the food was outstanding. Plenty of delicious roll, wraps and cakes all beautifully packed in our individual boxes. Would highly recommend. Thank you to the staff at The Cavendish.

Lovely little stop for a late breakfast and treated ourselves to a homenade cake afterwards (just too tempting not to try) All areas super and happy smiling staff very Cosy abd relaxing,food tasty and hearty Will recommend 👌

A gorgeous coffee shop with wonderful food. Serves breakfast and lunches. Amazing cakes and other goodies. Love the Buddha bowls where you can choose from a range of salads and pasta. All so tasty and they also do gluten free options. I go regularly and there are always new options on the menu. The staff are lovely, always really friendly and welcoming. It also has some parking and outside seating if you have a dog and the weather is good. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

We are so lucky this is our local cafe and it is amazing! Fabulous menu, the cakes are to die for, and the most vibrant and welcoming establishment you will ever visit! Tanya, Jules and their amazing staff make sure you enjoy the atmosphere, the venue and of course their menu. All fresh Lily prepared, nothing is too much trouble and you won’t leave without having tried the cake or bought some to take home. So if you haven’t been your are definitely missing out!

Myself and 3 friends recently went to the Cavendish for a ‘full English’ breakfast each (incl one vegan option) … the ingredients were clearly top quality and cooked to perfection. The lady who brought out food to the table was friendly and chatty (so rare in a lot of restaurants these days) and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. We will be returning asap. A big thumbs up 👍🏼

The Cavendish is such a wonderful cafe with fantastic food and kind, considerate staff. I could not recommend this place enough and it is truly a firm family favourite for us!

A bad first experience, unfortunately. Went in for a ‘quick’ take-away baguette and a coffee, which came to a pricey ££11.05, but was left waiting some 30mins for the food. The coffee came sooner, although the flat white I ordered was definitely not a flat white. The place was about 50-60% full, but not one of the 8 or 9 staff was able to recognise that I had been standing there an awfully long time. Slow production line or a forgotten order? Who knows? No explanation when the baguette finally did come out, just a lacklustre apology for the wait. Food was average. Coffee was not barista quality. Prices align with a better outcome it seems.

It's a shame about the service it's the second time I have visited the Cavendish and both times the same lady has served me and made me feel really uncomfortable first time was with my wife second time with my kids and like I say no smile and the first time just took my change I always give a tip but just to take it was a bit rude it's a shame because the food quite nice

Absolutely love this place. You always get a wonderful welcome and a great choice of food. Coffee is best around and everything is reasonably priced ! I would highly recommend the Cavindish as I have never been disappointed. Food is always fresh and delicious and staff are all so lovely. Such a lovely place to go to!

Had a lovely meet-up with the girls. Had some lovely lemon cake and a pot of tea. This was lunch, I know, but i couldn't resist it. Friendly, cosy atmosphere. Was very busy, but the service was quick . Lovely staff.

I absolutely love The Cavendish! Came here for the first time a few weeks ago, despite being local. Have been back 4 times since! The food was delicious, the staff are so friendly and take the time to chat to me and my baby girl. When I book a table for lunch they can always accommodate a high chair. Particularly recommended their rocky road, yummy 😋

Brill place. Just off euro tunnel and seveses on m20 are terrible. This place is great for food. Really great.

Love this place! Parked easily today just before noon. Lovely waitresses serving a huge selection of baguettes and ciabattas. The jacket potatoes looked delicious too. The tea was plentiful and they offer artisanal soft drinks. A larger selection of cakes would work and the slice of apple pie was probably half the size you’d want/need!

Awful breakfast. Waited 35 minutes. Poached eggs rock hard so asked for them to be replaced. They did that but obviously just left the rest of the food sitting there so came back with new eggs and freezing cold sausages tomatoes toast etc. I didn’t want to make a fuss so just left it. Staff member asked if everything was ok so I told her it was freezing cold. This was followed up with the staff who had all been standing round chatting the whole time I was there shouting out Bye in sarcastic tone. Won’t be back. Dreadful place

Nice place, parking poor, limited breakfast menu, no children's options, or smaller options, pricer than other places in the area .

First time I have ventured here. I had a business meeting so missed out on the food and again the coffee was great taste better than Costa across the road. Weather was bright and sunny and the outside facilities are good. I'll be back! Great first time impression.

Lovely independent cafe. Today I enjoyed a delicious cheese scone washed down with a frappe which was magnificent. Great service, incredibly friendly staff and fresh food to order - worth a visit!

I booked the Cavendish for my best friend's baby shower and I could not recommend it more. We had afternoon tea, all dietary requirements were catered for and the food was great. From initial booking to us arriving, everything was very organised and our every need was accommodated. All the staff were lovely and helpful, and overall I would really recommend this for an event. I will definitely be returning as the other food on offer looked really good too.

I can’t thank Lisa and the team enoungh at the Cavendish for helping us get out of an urgent situation that could have ruined our celebrations, they are heroes in our eyes. Thank you so much for your help.

Very nice but music was too loud. We sat towards the back of the cafe and still noisy with clattering of crockery etc and music. Either turn the music down or off altogether. Really not needed with the age of the customers.

Absolutely love The Cavendish. Staff are so friendly, always helping with anything we need including holding my 2 week old baby while I eat my lunch and helping fulfill my 3 year old's food requests. Food is delicious and cakes to die for - the bread pudding is "almost" as good as my mum's! We just can't stop going back, highly recommend.

Felt a real treat taking my 7 year old daughter here for brunch. She loved it and the staff we very welcoming. I used to visit a lot pre Covid when my kids were all still in prams and it's great to see the food...

Friendly smiley staff, sang happy birthday to me which was embarrassing but lovely surprise . Food quality superb and good size portions. Easygoing atmosphere without being rushed to leave your table . Respectful prices too , all food homemade with local produce .

Did not know this place was here, chemist told us where it was, had a lovely sandwich & coffee, up market cafe so a bit pricey, but good food nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Well worth the visit.

Often stop for a coffee and a bite to eat here. Its a first rate establishment with outstanding coffee and superb staff. If you are hard of hearing though it can be a little difficult to have a conversation at busy times. Otherwise i can't recommend it highly enough

We parked over the road with ease. The lunch options were varied but also interesting, try the Madras naan sandwich…who knew?! The cakes were also interesting and looked delicious. The flapjack was tasty, the hot chocolate looked wonderful.

My first visit for 2 years as things are getting back to normal and Cavendish Breakfast is still one of the best, the place has a friendly feel and nice staff, they get very busy on a Saturday with party bookings so my advice get...

I went to the Cavendish with a few ladies for a Monday coffee morning yesterday , someone from the group recommended it , I ordered the smashed avocado with bacon and I was not disappointed! The atmosphere was great, continuously busy ,what a fabulous place, the only thing was I didn't take a large slice of cake home !
