Food good but old plates on the carvery should be replaced as they appear dirty. Whole place could benefit from a make over

I had a Gluten Free carvery, very nice.

Not the cheapest place to eat but the food quality is very good and the play areas for kids is big. My kids spent a good hour or so playing. Lovely views. Would highly recommend for a visit.

A great place for food and very friendly staff.

An amazingly big menu ranging from classic pub dishes, burgers and steaks to the less often seen dishes of the British menu. We have had tender Lambs Liver with potatoe mash, beautiful cooked cabbage with onion rings and gravy and gammon steak, crispy, chunky chips and peas. Delicious! Will come back.

Lovely food great for kids super play ground we came for dinner which we do often. My granddaughter turns 18 next month and wants to come here for the Sunday carvery that says it all

Wonderful night stay at the Chequers as a family of 7 with 3 children. We stayed in the family and budget room and had everything we could possibly need there. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and we would be happy to stay here again. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding, all local produce and they couldn’t do enough for us. We also had a meal the night before which was lovely and very good value. The kids loved the play area and the service throughout was tremendous. 100% recommend.

Great centrally located Island Inn - a great place to go for a drink & meal. Service is excellent, food is excellent too, friendly staff. Family & dog friendly. Advisable to book ahead (especially in holiday season).

Really low quality vibe. Charmless pub with multiple low quality, dark and charmless extensions. The place feels like something from a 70s holiday camp - catering for large numbers with absolutely no unnecessary friendliness or quality . The food is extremely average. You'll be greeted with a sign on the door saying 'do not use this door unless you have already been seated'. The children's play area is strewn with plastic litter from their sweets vending machine. The kids wooden chalet needs a clean. Impossible to give this place anything more than a totally mediocre 3 stars.

Very comfortable bed clean and tidy room which was a good size. Excellent breakfast and overall very good value and a lovely stay.

Good food and amazing location but was severely let down by miserable waitress who was more attentive to her phone than us. We will be returning but hopefully service better next time

Today, myself and four girlfriends went out for a meal because we were retiring I’m absolutely sad to say what a dreadful experience we had The meal was absolutely dreadful Staff, very rude And dismissive when I approach them with regarding our meal We were totally dismissed In my opinion, they all need training In customer I will not be recommending the checkers to anyone, family or friends All of you need to have a look at what’s important when going out for a meal and in my eyes it’s enjoying yourself

Had an amazing Chicken Kiev from the specials. It was the nicest meal I've had in an island pub for many a year. A whole gravy boat of garlic butter was quite something! Great attentive service from the barman too

We enjoyed a three course meal for six because we couldn't resist the menu options, it's been a long time since I ate three courses and I have no regrets! I enjoyed lamb spring rolls, lasagna with chips AND garlic bread then a white chocolate creme brulee, all accompanied by some smooth Chilean Merlot and a warm inviting atmosphere, friendly service. The food all arrived at the same time and all plates were cleared- from the moules to the salmon, the nachos to the burger, crispy beef to flat iron steak. Good job well done Team Chequers!

Absolutely amazing Sunday carvery!!

Great Carvery at good price, but who doesn't live a great dessert?

Young barman was brilliant very polite and very attentive

Went for dinner, reserved a table, and turned up . There was no table that had been allocated for a wheelchair user . The service was shocking. The waitresses are more interested in flirting with the regulars and playing on their mobile phones. Had 11 people in the dining room and not 1 waitresse on the bar looking after any of us. Took ages to get their attention and the bill. Certainly wouldn't recommend them anymore. Which is a shame as it's in a lovely area. The owner needs to sort out their staff.

Love this pub. We went for a friend's pre Christmas catch up. Food lovely , service considering they were really busy with several large parties, was efficient and friendly.

Came for the first time with my partner as a little birthday celebration. Got the burger platter for two. Genuinely the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. Service was very friendly and fast. Would give 10 stars if I could! Have recommended to our friends and will definitely be returning!!

We stayed here for two nights over the weekend, and while there were definitely positives—like the clean and lovely room, as well as the friendly staff—our stay was unfortunately overshadowed by the noise from the pub. If you’re planning to stay here, be aware that it’s extremely noisy until closing time. On Sunday night, it sounded like someone was practicing bass guitar and playing the same song repeatedly, which made it impossible to relax. Unfortunately, this ruined our experience, especially since I had to get up early for work and got very little sleep. It’s disappointing to write a negative review, but I feel the management should include a clear warning about the noise when guests book their stay. This would help set expectations and allow people to make an informed decision.

We had a terrible meal today. Just to reiterate all of us didn’t enjoy our food. The fish cakes were the wrong consistency and didn’t taste of any fish just potato with no seasoning. The curry jacket potato looked very undesirable and didn’t taste fresh. We were really disappointed as have often visited this pub for food but the quality of the food was poor.

"Regular" size meals are quite big portions. The small size would have done us Wide ranging menu which allows for everything from snacks to multiple course meals Popular with locals and tourists We have come here off and on for about 14 years (same owners the whole time) Wouldn't travel just to eat here and only eat here when nearby but more than pleasant enough Free wifi Whilst it hasn't impacted on our rating the gents toilets were very smelly

We stayed here with our two children 2yrs and 6yrs, the family room was plenty big enough for all of us and space for the children to play. The bathroom was equally spacious and the children loved the huge bath tub! There's a substantial play park in the garden and a games room. The food was exceptional, even if you don't stay here I would highly recommend eating here.

If you ever visit the IOW and have not stayed or visited the Chequers in Rookley, then you have not properly visited the IOW! This pub with rooms is simply divine. I come to the island regularly for work purposes and I always stay here. Even when it comes out of budget on the HMPPS portal, I find a way to get here. The rooms are spotless, the staff unfailingly delightful and the food superb. It matters not whether you’re a corporate booking or a private customer. You get afforded care, respect and absolutely outstanding service. Get yourself to this delightful place.

Great food, amazing carvery, just on the experience side, but amazing for kids with their huge kids playing area, also parking was spacious. Good pub.

Waitresses never smiled or made you feel welcome . Waiters made up for it. Latte was horrible as it was far, far too strong

The chequers is such a great place for every occasion. I went for a couple of drinks and had an amazing time. Everyone was so friendly, including the owner. I will definitely be returning g because the food looked amazing

We weren’t too impressed with dinner tonight. It really wasn’t very good. Service started off OK then they all disappeared at about 8pm. We were a table of 10 and weren’t looked after very well at all. It’s as shame to feel like this. The food we collectively rated at about 4/10.

"Our experience at Chequers Inn was disappointing. We found the 10 meals to be expensive given the poor quality of the food. Out of our group of ten, only two burgers were decent, while the rest of the dishes were of low grade. Additionally, the service left much to be desired. If we were to consider returning, significant improvements in both food quality and customer service would be necessary."

Stopped off with the family for a midweek lunch and what a lovely lunch we have had at the Chequers Inn. The menu have a great variaty and portion sizes were perfect 👌, would recommend the Chquers Inn for a good reasonable lunch.

Awful. The beef was so tough I could not cut it and roast potatoes rubbery and only just warm. Hard seats and too expensive. Veggies very good and service Good.

Appalling service,bearing in mind it was our first visit.We were there for a leisurely drink.The lady behind the bar,was not friendly. Not a hello when we arrived.No smile .Customer service means a lot to my husband and myself.We were on a holiday break.Needless to say we will not be returning.

Not very welcoming first and last visit

My wife, daughter and I stayed here in the family room for 2 nights. The room was spacious and immaculate, the breakfast and evening meals were delicious and the staff were friendly and hospitable. We couldn’t fault it

Visited this friendly pub/ restaurant for Sunday carvery. Food was excellent with great choice of meat and vegetables. Dog friendly and Ziva the black lab gives it 5 stars.

Very wheelchair friendly, amazing food with the option for small portions which is great for those with a smaller appetite and very friendly staff

We always go to the chequers when we stay at the lakes rookley . This time not so good we sat in the garden ordered food and drink from our phone the food was cold and the drinks didn't arrive. Next time we will order at the bar.

Went there for a Sunday carvery with the family, fantastic play area for the kids, so much for them to do! We had a carvery, 1 mix grill and 2 kids meals, all was a good portion and the food was delicious. Dog friendly also.

Fantastic!! Stopped here for dinner, friendly service, good portions, food arrived quickly and cooked to perfection. My steak was melt in the mouth and a perfect med-rare. Also plenty of park space for the little ones. Cannot fault this place for its dining experience.

I like this place, lovely views, nice food, nice atmosphere, great play park for kids, and you can bring the dog, what's not to like?

We arrived at 5.30 on a Friday. The place was almost empty. We were turned away. The wight mouse at Chale moved things around so we could eat. 6 of us. Spent just over £100 in two hours.

We managed to reserve a table for 8 of us last minute despite the place being rammed. We've always had a lovely meal here and this time did not disappoint. Two of our party had cod and chips - the cod was huge and hanging over the plate! The gammon came with pineapple and eggs and plenty of chips, the beef lasagne was very generous and the broccoli and stilton lasagne to die for! A mostly young staff, very helpful and polite. A lovely evening!

Food was rubbish and the waitress was rude .Get rid of the cook because he or she is not a chef and the waitress should go and find a job stacking shelfs where she dose not have to talk to any one. gook luck for the winter.

Ordered food ok , when it came out was the completely the wrong food until i said when it got served , i did not get told by no staff to say that the kitchen made a mistake i had to ask to find out what was going on with my food. Pretty poor if you knew the kitchen made a mistake should be told to the customer when they are waiting for there food! Apart from the food being late it was good!

Good food and very child friendly

On holiday at Rookley Park this week. Ate here twice this week and went into a food coma both times. Great food and very good value.

Second visit to this lovely family-friendly pub. It has a great play area outside. We all had the carvery again and it was just as good as last time. Really good choices of meat and vegetables and it was so tasty. Really friendly staff and really great service. The creme brulee was good and so was the sticky toffee pudding although it came with minimal custard. Kids brownie was a decent size and it was good they could have the carvery too. The apple and berry crumble lacked flavour although the crumble topping was nice. We would definitely return here on our next island visit. Great place.

Can’t comment on rooms as did not stay but can definitely comment on the service, miserable woman uttering things under her breath when serving my wife and I, safe to say will not be returning and that a shame as we did enjoy our food despite being on the pricier side of pub food.

A lovely stay. Lovely food breakfast and evening meal

Stayed for a night as we were attending a wedding nearby. The room was very comfortable and very well appointed. Very comfortable bed, lots a nice towels, good hospitality tray in the bedroom. Breakfast perfect. Most of all staff were really helpful and pleasant.

It would have been a 5 star 🌟 but every time we went to the small bar in the middle of the pub people were smoking cigarettes and the staff were turning a blind eye

We stopped here for dinner after a great long day. The food was very tasty and the service was very friendly. However, it is not for people who like to eat in peace as the pub is right next to the dining room and it is generally very loud, but that didn't bother us.

Stopped off here for lunch, had a nice ciabatta. Very high quality food, nice overall feel of the place, and overall just nice.

Food portions were generous, lovely staff, loved the fact that tbey have steak on the children's menu, my 8 year old son ordered the steak and said “it was amazing” and he didn't want any veg or beans so the chef gave him extra mash. Definitely recommend especially for family's.

I ordered some loaded nachos as a 'lite bite' as opposed to a 'main meal'. The portion size was obscene! Far too much for what was supposed to be a 'lite bite'. Even too much for a main meal. The chef/owner really need to sort this out. Oversized portions are really off-putting. I won't be coming back here.

Stoped here for a meal, it’s a strange set up in the fact the whole pub is a one way system where you are treated in a little bar area before getting taken through to a larger area to be seated. This is before you have even had time to see a menu or had time to work out if you like the feel of the place, just felt a bit of a pressure sell. Never felt that in a pub before, very strange.

This is the best pub we have visited for a long time. Something to suit the whole family. There is a very big selection of food, including on the kids menu (which is often limited). Everything was delicious and very good quality - we especially recommend the sticky toffee pudding!). Ale on tap suited a couple in our group, the service was brilliant, and the kids were delighted with the extensive playground and small games room). There is also a separate family dining area and adult area for those who want a more peaceful experience!

We were looking for a nice carvery unfortunately we were a bit disappointed as the food was dry and the gravy was far too thick.

We had a family lunch on a Saturday and had great food and service, generous portions and it’s a lovely pub.

One of the best pubs I've been to, highly recommend the oh my cod burger and their specials never fail to impress me.

Been here several times now for the Sunday carvery and it’s very good. However if you order a child’s portion £8.25 you get the same size plate as a small meat carvery £13.

We are first time campervanners and also first timers to the IOW. The Chequers Inn was a last minute stop over and the pitch was perfect. Hard standing electric and water. Food and service was excellent, good value for money. Evening meal and breakfast. Will definitely visit again

Beautiful food best fish and chips we have had on the island, we are islanders so have had a few .

We had the buffet style carvery, the meat was a little fatty, however there was a good selection of vegetables. Service was pleasent.

Empty pub, not great service, limp and tired looking salad, when someone eventually came over, I showed him the salad, no apology, brought out more salad, which was no better. Very disappointed, over priced and not great.

Friendly welcome and excellent food. Only criticism is lighting is not very good but thank you. We'll definitely be back.
