Had two lunches while at Millbrook. Both fish & chips and chicken & bacon salad were rather good. Other dishes looked pretty good as well, although have not tried them.Efficient and friendly service. Enough seating and convenient parking. Both days were reasonably busy with quite a few regulars.Certainly a place to visit in the area.

I dropped into this pub before an engagement at the Village Hall nearby, for a light bite. I poled up to the bar, and straight away was told that this pub doesn't have bottled cola, only on tap!! (How odd) I then asked if they did food, to which I received a very curt reply from the barman. I tried to engage him in friendly chat, but he was having none of it. I ordered Bruchetta from their Italian menu. The food was brought and plonked down on the table without a murmur! I proceeded to eat my very average and quite greasy Bruchetta, and feeling that this was a distinctly unfriendly establishment, drank my rather horrible warm cola, and took my leave. Will I return? Will I heck!!

Not to be confused with the other Chequers on the Ampthill Road., the food here is far superior. Been here a few times so decided to take some friends. Three courses, wine, fresh coffee and liqueurs later they were as impressed as we have always been.

Have been going to this restaurant for a number of years and just love it. Always a warm and friendly welcome and excellent service. The atmosphere is very cosy and a roaring log fire greets you on colder days. The food is delicious and freshly prepared. There is always a good specials board in addition to the regular menu. Fish dishes are very tasty as are the pasta and meat choices. There is a very good wine list. Coffee is a speciality and not to be missed expertly prepared. This is a delightful venue whether for a meal for two, evening with friends and family or a larger celebration. Highly recommend a visit sorry I no longer live as close so can't eat there as regularly.

Xmas Cracker We consider the Chequers the best, quiet dinning by the open fire, Quality food prepared by the chief who clearly cares. Should you choose the bruschetta starter with the chutney and delicate taste, homemade lasagne for main, you will not be disappointed, or prawn cocktail, with a steak perfectly cooked potatoes and freshly cooked green beans with a firm texture, traditional, you will want to linger over a very very good meal. Not forgetting the real ale barrel, try that for sure. We give this great pub restaurant, and staff a well-deserved 5, based on taste quality and value with comfortable surroundings.

Friendly atmosphere. Knowledgable staff deliver a tasty range of authentic Italian cuisine - just like mama used to make. After finding this little gem we'll definitely become regular patrons.

Our second visit to the Chequers was, once again, almost faultless.Enjoyed another evening with my partner at the Chequers savouring the gastronomic delights from the menu. I started with the Pate, my partner choosing the soup of the day and olives. Both starters were perfectly prepared and went down a treat. We followed these with the main; I had the Lamb Shank and my partner had Spaghetti Bolognese. The lamb, as it should be, was slow cooked to perfection, falling off the bone nicely but still maintaining its full flavour. The accompanying vegetables and mint gravy harmonised the lamb beautifully. The Spaghetti Bolognese was plentiful and blended with nice delicate Italian flavours. I was tempted by the Ginger Pudding which I almost asked for seconds – it was astonishingly moist and full of flavour and texture. The service is excellent with the host remembering our previous visit some 6 months earlier. The atmosphere is warm and quiet – one can lose yourself in conversation without being disturbed or disturbing other diners. Our only criticism is that we would have liked to have seen a more varied wine list, especially for myself as I usually only drink rose wine. Can’t wait for our next visit.

We nipped in for a quick post-walk lunch and ordered soup from the specials board (pot and leek....not very Italian) and a sandwich from the lunch menu (ham and cheese....again not very Italian) because we were in a hurry. The soup was ok but came with one small slice of garlic bread and the sandwich came on pretty naff white bread with an iceberg style salad garnish. £17 with couple of soft drinks. We were in and out within 30 mins It was all ok but I'd expect similar from a Wetherspoons. Decor is traditional pub style and there's not much light. Service was efficient. Maybe if we'd had more time and ordered something more substantial and Italian we'd have had a better experience.

I drive past this place nearly every day and it's never appeared too welcoming with chains across the car park and dim lighting plus only open Wed- Sat. Never the less decided to give it a try, we had the lunch menu and the 3 course menu @ £15.50 was reasonable value and the food was good but no wow factor, coffee very good but expensive. Not sure about the marketing strategy of this place, it has several good beers but not really set up to attract drinkers. It's website talks about being close to walks & cycle rides but doesn't allow dogs and has no direct access to the garden. Closed on Sundays so closed when most people have time free. Not sure if I'd bother to go again as there several other places locally that give better value meals of equal or better quality and open more often.

Called in to the Chequers by chance for supper on 26th July. It was late and the kitchen was about to close so just ordered something simple ... Spaghetti with a 'bolognese' sauce. Absolutely delicious! Really proper Italian food. Simple, no designer nonsense but super-tasty, with a crisp side salad and gutsy wine. A true taste of Italy. A pleasant, comfortable, spotlessly clean dining room. A very lucky find. A family run 'pub' (the publican is himself Italian and was 'barista of the year' some while ago), the chef is also Italian. If you are looking for 'designer Italian' with the emphasis on design rather than genuine good food (and we know who we mean, Carluccios!) this is probably not the place for you, but if you appreciate the real thing then you will not be disappointed. I wish this place were nearer to my home in Worcestershire!

Our Valentine's Day evening at Donatello's was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect tone for a romantic evening. The highlight of our experience was the outstanding service provided by Cherish. Her attentiveness and genuine warmth made us feel truly special. She anticipated our needs with impeccable timing, ensuring our glasses were never empty and that each course arrived promptly. Her knowledgeable recommendations enhanced our dining experience, guiding us through the menu with expertise. The culinary delights at Donatello's exceeded our expectations. The pasta was cooked to perfection, and the pizza boasted a delightful blend of flavors with a crispy crust. Each dish reflected authentic Italian cuisine, prepared with the freshest ingredients. Cherish's exceptional service, combined with the delectable food and charming atmosphere, made our Valentine's Day unforgettable. We wholeheartedly recommend Donatello's to anyone seeking an outstanding Italian dining experience.

Another visit to my favourite eating place in Leighton Buzzard. Had a lovely Mother's Day lunch. Food excellent as always and service was superb, with a lovely atmosphere too. The staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Excellent all round.

Not sure how this place has such a high rating. The prawn cocktail was so bad please please don't order as a starter. Overall, it probably serves the local community well but for someone who lives in London and was hoping for something great, this was a stark reminder why I love London. Setting is nice and would be good for a date but if your looking for top notch food, it's looking tricky.

Edit March 2025: Sorry to echo another recent review, this place has gone downhill massively and stil expensive. Not sure if a change in owners, managers but seems like it. We used to love Fratellis and have been customers for 5 years, we had our first date here, became a favourite of ours and even got engaged here as it held special romantic memories. The food used to be good, the service impeccable. Now, we visited today and it was a world apart from what I remember. The staff clearly fairly new and inexperienced, although nice but we were sat at a table which was tiny for 4 people and right next to the bar which means you can overhear staff conversations awkwardly, plus it's used as a walkway for all people and it's not a nice place to sit. The food quality, taste, ingredients are all worse and the chefs which I'm sure have probably changed a few times over the years are no where near as good as they used to be. The garlic dough balls, were a favourite, today they were completely different to how they used to be. Much much fewer of them, completely different shape, consistency being rock hard and had no garlic to them, served with a butter that just have looked at garlic no taste at all. Just a basic mini bread roll. They used to ooze garlic, soft to the touch and uniformly round with lots more on the plate. The calamari, soggy not crisp or crunchy coating and very rubbery to eat. The carbonara, today was drenched in cream, completely different to how it used to be, far too much. The Pizzas were almost burnt, far too many black spots from the oven, all I could taste was burnt dough. For the ingredients added to the top, it was essentially tasteless except the burnt bits. Still hugely costly, roughly £110+ and they include a 10% service charge, which is so wrong especially on tables of fewer people. Sorry to say, but after 5 years, we won't be returning to what was once a highlight and special place to dine at. Everything felt like costs have been cut at the expense of quality and experience, these high prices can not be justified by such poor food. So sad to see another once great restaurant fall by the wayside. Original 2020: Lovely restaurant, came on a date with my lady friend and we both loved it. The food is wonderful, authentic and delicious. We had the best dough balls and pizza I've had outside of italy here! The staff are attentive and genuinely caring, the prices are very reasonable for the quality of evening you'll enjoy. We even had drinks bought for us by a lovely older gentleman at the table next to us, who happened to be a co-owner or investor in Fratelli, we was kind and enjoyed having people have a great time in the establishment. Very cosy and almost feels like a private dining experience the way the layout is done, the only reason it's not 5* review is that parking is limited as it's in an old village. However there is parking on the street outside, usually best if you're not going on a friday or Saturday night I'd imagine
