Lovely place, lovely food and Friendly staff

Perfect pub grub that is home cooked, tasty and great value. Good choice for veggies too and set menu is super value. We found this gem a couple of months ago and will come back whenever we can. Give it a try!

Great country Pub with plenty of choices. Food was delicious. The beer was fresh and cold like it should be. Parking was easy at the back of the pub.

Very good all round visit - excellent well kept real ale, welcoming landlord and efficient serving staff, tasty and very reasonably priced food menu. And those extras like a fire going in the wood burning stove. Stopped off here on route on the Essex Way.

What a lovely little pub. We were warmly welcomed by 2 of the local characters and the made us very welcome. The food was very nice and the lady on the bar was very friendly . Recommended

Wow ! A must try , we had fish & chips takeaway last night and they were absolutely delicious 😋 homemade chips , beautifully cooked fish in homemade batter , cooked to order so nice & hot . It’s a 10 from Paul & Lynn.

Very friendly people. The starter was OK but the steak first was reasonable for a few pieces but the rest was over done and tastless.We both now have stomach ache all night.Not sure if it was the oil it was cooked it or something else. Sorry but need to flag up.

We visited the Chequers on a Saturday lunchtime and I must say that the beer and food were excellent. The staff were very friendly and I would recommend the Chequers to anyone.

We had a fantastic visit today after our leg of the Essex Way relay. Although we got there just before the kitchen closed, we were welcomed by the staff and had a delicious meal with fantastic service. Totally recommend eating here 😀

We went to the chequers 28 august . We had 6 people in our group., and we were all impressed by our sunday roast. It had all the trimmings cauliflower cheese red cabbage etc and loads of meat . Being disabled and in an electric wheelchair Terry was only to pleased to help me into the pub. Allready booked up to go again. Thank you Graham

I looked for somewhere to eat close to our gym at Feering. This pub came up In the search and had good reviews, so we thought we’d give it a go. It’s set in a lovely country location , has friendly staff and our food was really good. We both had steak, which was cooked perfectly and shared halloumi chips (more than 2 would have been nice) and a brownie Sunday, followed by coffee. There was a very reasonably priced 3 course meal offer on which would be good to try another time.

Good beer and great food at reasonable prices.

We are a walking group that enjoy finishing off our Thursday walk in the Essex and Suffolk countryside with a pub lunch. This was our return visit to the Chequers, a village pub near to the Essex Way. Where once again the standard of hospitality, range of food and good cask ales was found very much to our liking. We look forward to future visits.

As always we were greeted with a warm welcome. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Lovely atmosphere and dog friendly.

Pub back to its best with the return of Terry as landlord . Good choice of traditional pub food , all very well prepared and presented ,the beef stew and dumplings exceptional. Excellent beers and a roaring log fire. True village pub atmosphere.

11 of us out for an evening meal. Absolutely first class drink, food and service generally. Very, very highly recommended. After the difficulty for hospitality venues over the last 18 months, support your pubs - and if you need one recommended, then I would offer this one.

Visited On a busy Sunday Food brilliant, Staff service, hospitality absolutely faultless couldn't say any thing to complain about. Will visit time and time again cannot say a bad word and cannot find anything to fault. Terry and staff thanks again for a enjoyable time.

This Pub is brilliant the food is great,value for money and cooked to perfection. Terry and his staff are so helpful and friendly and approachable...nothing appears to be a problem. I have visited several times and will be going back many more times in the future. Keep up the high standard and I am looking forward to my next visit.

The service was vey friendly and efficient. The food was fine for pub fayre and portion sizes were about right. £12.50 for 2 courses seems a pretty fair price. The loan of petanque equipment was very generous.

We had Sunday lunch there and it was the best we have ever tasted, l would recommend it to anyone, it was our second visit since the new owners.

Very polite staff. Although very busy drinks were forthcoming very quickly and we were informed there would be a delay but we didn't mind as now we knew. Food was very delicious and filling. We were very happy as we were looked after and it's a credit to the few staff and landlord that we felt we had to compliment them and leave a nice tip . Thank you.

Lovely country pub food and was cooked fresh and hot too. The staff was very friendly and made us very welcome. Definitely recommend it to come and try the food .

We have eaten here twice since the new (returning) landlords took over in mid-May and on both occasions the food and service were excellent. Expect good, traditional pub food, freshly prepared. Nothing fancy, but really delicious. The pies and fish and chips are especially good. The team were welcoming and friendly and we will certainly be regular visitors now. The Wednesday dinner deal is ridiculously good value.

Good old fashion pub grub, good service

Firstly the landlord was so welcoming. Was in a party of 2 on a Thursday lunchtime. The place well set out for distancing . The menu was very varied for choice. Quality off food absolutely top notch. So fresh and the kitchen staff cooked the meals so well there was nothing to find fault with. Serving staff brilliant This is a place to search out and visit I'm going back soon for sure .

Visited here a few times during a long weekend staying in the village of Gt Tey. Welcoming and pleasant landlord, great ale, nice setting in a pretty village. Had a nice meal here too with good service.

Having recently moved to the village we went to The Chequers for dinner this evening. The service was great, atmosphere was good , a little noisy as a group of 9 teen lads turned up soon after us.The food was nice but nothing special to be totally honest. Will go back another time and try different dishes as it's now our local so it's good to support our local business!

Not been to this pub for years, but fancied a pint and a meal. The locals are welcoming with the friendly staff. We hadn't booked but was found a seat to eat. The food was delicious and proper meat. Differently Reccomend this fine country pub.Will call in again..apparently the Sunday Roasts are top draw..... yum.Jason

During a visit to friends in the Colchester area we were taken to the Chequers for an evening meal and a chance to sample the local brew.It was certainly worth the visit! The food was excellent and the surroundings very relaxed, the beautiful resident Great Dane adding to the ambiance!

We were a party of five dining for lunch. We were pleasantly greeted by a huge Great Dane and a lady behind the bar. The menu was quickly delivered and our order taken in good time. We chose from the varied menu and the food was delivered without delay. We were asked the usual question” is every thing OK with your meals” This was unnecessary because the good standard of food was delicious. Most of our party chose ice cream. There was a good variety to choose from and made our meal complete. Thanks to all for a pleasant lunch.

The food was lovely and they served Taylor's Landlord my favourite.

Only dropped in for a beer which was good. Can't rate the food or service.

They recently hired a chef promising to install as new menu and deliver decent food. Sadly,that all went astray and they now only serve pre made shrink wrap crap... not good

Very friendly. Only visited twice but on both occasions have found them to be friendly and welcoming.

Nice friendly village pub with good food and Adams beer. The lamb shank I had was really tasty with fresh cooked vegetables and mash.

Had a lovely meal there for my sons 30th. Staff so friendly. Very welcoming atmosphere. Food very nice.

This was a lunch visit booked by one of my friends for the three of us. It had been booked in advance and we had reserved seats by the window.On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who clearly knows the friend who had booked for us. He and his partner are fairly regular visitors. There are a good selection of ales available to accompany lunch.Once seated with out drinks, a menu was provided for each of us. Once we had decided our orders were taken and within a reasonable time our meals arrived.The food was well prepared and of good quality and we all enjoyed our lunch. Desserts were ordered and once again we didn't have to wait very long for them to be brought to the table.Being a weekday lunchtime, this village establishment wasn't overly busy although another couple arrived shortly after us who are known to my friend who had booked for us.The cost of the meal plus desserts was reasonable. As we were about to leave, the landlord came to the bar and we had a brief chat about the pub and how it has now recovered after the previous landlord's tenure. Oh yes! mustn't forget Arnie the great Dane checking us out as we chatted!

I enjoyed the food . I had ham egg and chips and my group had the lasagne. Good size portions and lovely sitting outside enjoying the summers evening. Friendly staff and warm welcome . Worth a visit. We will be back
