Stopped for lunch when on a walk with friends and the food , drink and service were excellent. We had battered fish finger goujons and tuna mayo ciabatta rolls , each with coleslaw and a cup of chips , really good . Good choice of beers . Good value as well for the quality , £8.50 I think for each of the meals . Recommended .

The perfect village pub! We booked for my husband’s birthday as a group of 5, with 2 children in the group. The service was excellent, so friendly and efficient (I didn’t catch the name of the waitresses, but both were excellent). The kids portions were great value and a perfect size for our 9 and 12 year old. I had the pie, which was the best I’ve had. Again, generous portion and great value. We didn’t have room for dessert, but I’d love to visit again and try more dishes! Would highly recommend if you’re looking for a relaxing country pub with high quality food and service.

We went to the Cheeny Arms for the first time for a meal, as we had heard how lovely it was. We arrived slightly late, but the hosts were very welcoming and quickly found us a table. It was pie night and the meal was delicious, and as one of our party had dietary requirements they also accommodated for their needs. Everyone enjoyed the meals and the staff were helpful and friendly . The atmosphere was lively and is exactly what you would expect of a country pub. We will defiantly be visiting again and would highly recommend anyone who hasn't been ,to give it a visit. 5 stars 👍.

Been a couple of years since been for sunday lunch, we will not go back. booked for 3.30 so a late sunday lunch. We all had roast pork and crackling. They had ran out of apple sauce so not a good start. the plate came, two small slices of pork, stuffing ball size of a 50p piece and the crackling the size of a small postage stamp. The roast potatoes were so hard you couldn't cut them open. All this for a cost of £20. The waiting staff were the only positive of the day. The worst bit was we complained but didn't get any apology or no visit from manager/owner. It felt as though they just wanted our money and no customer service. There is a plethora of good sunday lunch places near to this place. Do not go it not worth it and they don't care.

We ate in the restaurant area, Barnsley Chop and chicken mains, Eaton Mess and Lemon Tart, 1 x Gin/Tonic, 1 x White wine, 1 and 1/2 pints of Sunchaser beer. The bill was for £73:15. All the food was well cooked and presented. Service was fine, we enjoyed our visit to the Cheney Arms and it is recommended. Paul Reynolds.

I was competing in the Dambusters Triathlon, and we needed somewhere to stay the night before. What an excellent choice we made coming here. The staff are brilliant, the room was amazing, the evening meal was scrumptious and plentiful. We couldn't stay for breakfast as I had to be at the venue for 6.15, so a lovely lady made us a breakfast basket. We will definitely stay here again next year

Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate Mother’s Day as the Cheney Arms is a firm family favourite for many years. We were greeted with a warm welcome and seated, being offered drinks whilst we browsed through the menu, which hasten to say Sunday Lunch is considered a centrepiece to enjoy. Sadly, these usually high standards didn’t show on this visit with the starters just looking more shop bought than someone creating a culinary delight, two roast meals, pork and beef along with the vegetables disappointing and fell foul of the usual great standard. Didn’t want to make a fuss despite the staff being very friendly, but what added to or disappointment was a large party dining with what felt like one individual was holding court over his table, to say he was load and full of himself was an understatement, we learnt so much about this individual, his car, his laptop as they were working from home and the visit to the dentist on Wednesday (Hope it went well for them), I would add it isn’t the venue’s fault but some individuals should seriously think about their actions in public which can be to the detriment to the venue as our lunch wasn’t the tastiest it could have been and with the noisy customer it made the art of conversation between ourselves and with the staff an issue.I consider it just an off day as these things do happen, but would say to the management that the roast potatoes were too large and not cooked properly and that the beef just lacked flavour along with the gravy as was the cabbage, but the carrots were nice. Would I go back? Yes for sure, I just hope they review what is being sent out of the kitchen, it is a great pub all said and want to see be a successful enterprise.

We have been to the Cheney Arms on several occasions and always had a nice meal, unfortunately this time 2 of us ordered the suet steak & mushroom pudding, the meat was inedible, just grisly chunks of meat. The staff asked if we wanted something else which at first we declined but decided to go for the halibut, but of course by the time our meal came our friends had finished,so not the experience we wanted. When the bill came we were charged full price for the replacement meal and no offer of a coffee as a sorry, which we would have expected.I’m not saying we wouldn’t return but something is lacking in customer service and there are a lot of nice pubs in the area to try. It’s a shame.

To keep it short and sweet, average food which is way over priced. I would say this isn’t a family friendly pub, only one high chair, and as an example a small fruitshoot cost £2.30 each and a single scoop of ice cream £3. I found what I would class as the head waitress/owner to be extremely rude. Rolling her eyes to other staff probably as my autistic granddaughter dropped a little food on the floor. Fake smiles, rudely stood waiting for payment despite being asked to be given time to check the bill several times. Also no mentioned when booking they set a time limit on tables so beware if booking you actually get a time slot to eat regardless that you’ve spent £350+ on a meal. Shame really as the younger girls waiting seemed polite and helpful. Definitely won’t be returning which will no doubt suit the pub as much as me. Much better offerings locally without looking hard. ‘Merry Christmas and thanks for your warm hospitality’

Nice surroundings, good service and tasty, hot food. All good so far... right? But sadly if you're a vegan, you're likely to be disappointed. Not one single vegan option on the menu for a starter or main course! I mean as a vegan I'm used to not having much choice - but not one single option?!! I figured the specials board might have me covered but, nope. Nothing there either. Come on Cheyney Arms.. sort it out. Having asked the waitress, she came back from the kitchen with one starter and one main that they could offer. I ordered the main, which was supposed to be a Portobello mushroom burger, but I'm not at all sure that's what I got. By this time I just shut up and ate it because I didn't want to cause a fuss on a rare night out with these friends. And just a final note Cheyney Arms.. you might think you're only losing one customer by not offering an vegan option. The truth is my group nearly swerved the starters all together as I couldn't have anything, and of course we certainly won't be returning as a group if you can't drag yourselves into the 21st century.

The cellar management is top notch too with the Everards beers being especially well kept. We are looking forward to trying out the B&B rooms in July as we celebrate a special family birthday. The lamb pie in particular was lovely as was the steak and Stilton. Could have done with a little more veg. 1 piece of broccoli and 2 slices of carrot on my plate, others had peas on,mine didn’t. I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t a child’s menu or anything on the menu done as a smaller potion which meant I was paying average £13 for my child’s tea which he was never going to eat. When I queried this the waitress just said it wasn’t an option and we could take home what he left ♀️♀️

Seems a little wrong to call it pub grub as better than a lot of restaurants I've been to. Friendly pub with a small dining area so worth booking. Some great choice on the menu and also a couple of specials including a Hare & Red Wine Pie which was delicious. My wife had the Gammon which was a really thick steak and so tender. Both served with veggies and home cooked chips. Piping hot, full of flavour and good sized portions. All in all a really nice meal and will definitely return soon.

We were directed here by the owner of an Art Gallery in a neighbouring village. BIG thanks. Set in the pretty village of Gaddesby, surrounded by some glorious countryside, this Inn is a gem. Lovely building, adequate car park, attractive decor, quaint "olde worlde" layout, with a welcoming ambience - just right. The warm, mellow restaurant room, adjoining the (well stocked) bar, was inviting. The varied menu well up there in the "good pub grub" spectrum, the service attentive and capable. My wife plumped for char grilled chicken in a creamy Stilton & walnut sauce, with new potatoes, runner beans and mange tout, I the locally sourced pork bangers with mash, greens as above, in a whole grain mustard sauce. Every constituent was spot on, well presented, with both sauces simply superb. My Tiger Ale too, went down a treat! Really, our best pub lunch for quite a while. Well done the Cheney Arms.

We had an impromptu stop here and found a little gem. We happened upon this place by chance while on a bike (motorcycle) trip. The staff we're friendly and helpful and the pulled pork baguette I had was superb! My wife had the jacket potato which she said was very good too. Generous portions but not too much and reasonable prices. If you're in the area it's a great place to stop off.

I needed a place to take friends for Sunday lunch. Having read some of the reviews I was slightly bothered but decided to book anyway. Well I shouldn’t have worried. The food was delicious, everyone loved their lunch and the service was excellent. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. Excellent value for money. Will definitely be going back very soon.

I ate here as a treat for my daughter in law who is vegetarian...it was pie night and I have heard good reviews. I’m also vegetarian and two others in the group are meat eaters. We booked ahead and ordered the only vegetarian options along with the meat options.

Visited last Friday evening and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent. My wife had steak and I had scampi all excellent and large portions. We arrived early, no problem the restaurant soon filled up and by the time we left it was full. Although there is only one restaurant in Gaddesby it deserves it's rating of 1/1!

We visited The Cheney Arms for the first time at the beginning of April for my fathers birthday, we had such a lovely meal both my brother, sister and myself decided to bring our mother and stepfather, for their joint birthday which they celebrated last Tuesday, despite the fact that it took 45mins to travel there it seemed worth it, however, how disappointed we all were, especially myself as it was the first time our parents had visited and I don't think we shall be coming back given the experience we all had on our last visit, here are just a few points which ruined the evening:

Nice setting, staff were very pleasant food was really good, reasonably priced and not skimpy on the portions as is becoming all to common. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The instant feel that you get from this pub is an air if pompous chovenism where staff and local men leer at the ladies as they come and go. Clearly set within an affluent part of the world but seems to be archaic in its attutudes to those from other less favourable backgrounds and to the female gender. Can't comment on the food.

Cheney Arms only serves traditional pub fare and some of it was not cooked that well. Soup was good, stuffed mushroom very salty, steak pie meat overdone as was the sea bass. All in all mixed experience. Still the service was good and the staff friendly. And the wine was good too. We won’t be rushing back though.

By far the worst pub meal we have ever had. My mac and cheese was in a bowl the size of a cereal bowl and half empty. Two slices of garlic bread that were at most 2 inches. £15 for this and left hungry. When the waitress asked and we told her she said she would inform the chef came back and just walked by us .. never again. The other 3 meals were better but not much, over cooked chips, dry overcooked burger and chicken burger with no taste of teriyaki!

My wife and I were on coach trip to the Great Central Railway. We stopped in Melton Mowbray for a couple of hours and decided to have lunch. We saw Miss B's sign and thought we would have a meal there. I had the steak pie with stilton. It was an excellent choice, I really enjoyed it. My wife had a cheese and ham toastie which she also enjoyed.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Rutland Arms for my mothers birthday. The food tasted great, fresh and so nice to try something a little different. The waitress, (I can't remember her name) but she was so lovely and chatty & an asset to the business. I would recommend to anyone wishing to enjoy a meal in nice surroundings with good food that won't break the bank. We will definitely be returning.

Had a fantastic Sunday lunch with friends today. Everything was perfect, fantastic food. We were all very impressed how attentive and kind the staff were. They're were some elderly customers there, after the meal the staff were helping them with their coats, hats and walking sticks, so nice to see in this day and age. We will definitely be back. Amazing.
