The cakes looked so good from the window. Went in and asked for cornflake slice and a frangipani. The young man didn’t listen to me because when I got home there was no cornflakes slice. So disappointed.

Popped in for a quick treat as have been before but was tempted by their delicious sandwich menu! Hard to find some of their options in London.. so we were excited to have these new deli sandwiches. Considering all food stocks have nearly run out in London, I’ve luckily found a lot of dry stock here too to take back with me :D

This used to be a superb well run local shop but appears to have changed hands or staff since the last time I was there. Called in to buy some provisions & after standing around for a several minutes was greeted by a rude bloke (who I assume is the one mentioned in a few other reviews), who clearly thinks customers are an inconvenience as he stated he knew we were there but he was doing something?? He continued to be just as abrupt over service.

Stopped here for a light lunch on Saturday. Delicious sausage rolls and Cornish Pasty. Staff were great. A lovely young lady served us. She was delightful and so pleasant. Will definitely visit again when in Ashbourne and recommend a visit.

As the title says, we were waiting at the traffic lights to turn and spotted the display of pastry in the window. We had a steak pie and a coffee sit in and thoroughly enjoyed. Would have preferred slightly crispier pastry but appreciate that pot pies probably aren’t that type of pastry. Absolutely delicious. Good coffee too. We will definitely stop in again on our next trip through Ashbourne.

What a lovely shop come eater. Service was quick and attentive. The tunes on the in-house PA, excellent, (by that it was indie and alternative) as was the food. Stopped off here on the way up to Peak District for a drink and sugary treats. The window display attracted us into the place. I wouldn't really call this a coffee shop, its more like a deli, and has a small seating area to the back of the shop. The service was welcoming and all our cakes delicious. I saw pork pies on the way out and decided to buy one to share with our walking friends. All thought it was a great pie very generously filled.

Visited today and enjoyed and excellent cappuccino with a delicious home-made cheese, onion and potato pie. OK, the cafe is tiny and certainly not the Ritz but anyone expecting that should look elsewhere. Good food, very good coffee; what's not to like? Followed up by buying a loaf of white bread - again, very good quality and taste - and two lumps of cheese, being: Aged Compte and Montagnolo Alfine. The owner of Cheddar Gorge certainly knows cheese; having just sampled both I can say they are both superb. Cheddar Gorge maybe a little quirky and different but the quality and service I experienced today was excellent. I have one suggestion; please make available a dairy-free confection - my wife will love you for it.

I’d been looking forward to going to this place and having some lunch with my partner. However, when we saw the pathetic excuse of a cafe we were quite shocked. There were 3 round tables crammed into a tiny side room with only enough room for 2 chairs at each. Two tables were occupied with customers and the other had a member of staff with a laptop at it. We stood and waited for a short while but were not approached by any staff to ask if we were waiting to be seated. We eventually decided to leave and go elsewhere. Total lack of customer service and we were quite disappointed by the choice of cheeses on sale. We meant to go back and buy some oatcakes on the way back but couldn’t be bothered to spend any money in there.

After wandering around Ashbourne with the aim of getting an afternoon tea we came across this place. It looked great, so we decided to sit in and have a coffee and scone, jam and cream.. We were first in and waited a good while to be served meanwhile another couple came in and were served before us. Eventually we were asked what we would like. After a good ten minutes the coffee finally arrived and was the wrong order. Again we waited another ten minutes for the member of staff to return. There was no apology and we were made to feel like it was our fault. When we eventually received the right order the coffee was cold, rancid and almost undrinkable. We can only assume that it was old stock that we were given. We stuck with it and waited for the scones to arrive which was taken from the front counter and to the back to be "prepared". How long can it take to put a scone on a plate and add cream and jam? It eventually arrived without the cream, again another ten minutes for that to arrive after we pointed it out. After this we had high hopes for the scones. It was however the most dry, stale and flavourless scones we have ever had. The dryness was unreal as the act of spreading the butter, and jam just crumbled the things. The cream made it no better. We struggled through and decided to leave. We felt that the general service was rude, and the assumed owner/ manager seemed unbothered about his customers and treated them like it was an inconvenience to him.

We'd just come to the end of a holiday in Derbyshire and stopped for a coffee in Ashbourne before setting off for the return journey. The first thing that caught our eye was that these people have Monmouth coffee. This is pretty unusual outside London and it's really good. They only have 3 tables but it's primarily a deli so that's hardly surprising. We had a couple of cappuccinos and toasted ciabatta rolls with chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and melted cheese, served with a salad and really creamy coleslaw. Delicious.

Concerns re uncovered food by the door and piled in window. Latest owner is hostile rude and arrogant. I went in some months ago as a regular customer and Tom was serving, he proceeded to make loud conversation with another customer over the already loud music completely ignoring me whilst making my order. Needless to say it was wrong which I didn't realize till I was back in the office. The next day I told him about the wrong order, not an apology but hostility. Have not and will not return until he is gone. Added to this he and his girlfriend had an open argument on the Facebook page with a customer over loud and inappropriate music! Was hungry in town for the afternoon and their window displays just sung to me! Was very busy with a cue outside but despite this the staff were able to serve my lunch with no hassle. The food was delicious, and the interior decor was beautiful! Coming from a major city you’ve seen it all but the atmosphere inside made me not want to leave. The pies and cakes you can smell being baked in the kitchen were so hypnotic, what more could I be tempted with! After my lunch decided to buy some cheese, their selection was so grand it frazzled me but the young chap made it seem like it was his second language and he was so patient despite me taking ages to finally choose a selection I want. It’s weird to say a shop rather than the Peak District is the reason you want to frequent a town but I haven’t found anything more delicious or hospitable as my time spent at the cheddar gorge!

The only reason that I have not given this shop 5 stars is because some of the younger staff weren't quite as attentive as they should've been..... at one point a girl was talking to a chap who she obviously knew and was VERY slow in making his sandwich, during which time he stood by the counter and took his trainer off to show her something on his bare foot! Yuck! Especially as we were trying to eat our snack at the table 5 feet (no pun intended!) away from said bare foot!!! To be fair she told him to put it back on straight away. It seemed that the slowness in making his sandwich was so she could chat for longer, maybe I'm wrong, but the shop was very busy and there were customers waiting. On the plus side, the choice of food esp cheeses and chocolates was fantastic and the place is obviously popular with locals. They also sell fun things like Cheese Making Kits and Himalayan salt shot glasses (we bought several sets as Christmas presents). We'll certainly go back when we next go to Ashbourne, which we do fairly often as family live there.

Wonderful shop with a fantastic selection of cheeses and accompaniments. We popped in here to stock up on some nibbles to snack on in our holiday cottage. This shop is indicative of all local shops in the area - friendly, informative and quality locally sourced products. However we ordered sage derby cheese and what we got was not sage derby but it was still beautiful. We also bought a treacle tart which although packaged as such turned out to be a coconut type tart. Not sure how they managed to sell me a blue cheese instead of sage derby. The tart was probably not down to the shop as I do not believe they bake their own tarts so perhaps the supplier has incorrectly packaged. The cheese was fine as I mentioned but the tart was a little more disappointing as no one enjoyed the coconut tart as we were all looking forward to treacle tart and cream. The shop is still great with excellent produce on sale.
