Visited the Cedar inn while on a nostalgic trip to Aberdour. We were too early for dinner - so thought that we would have a glass of wine and a packet of crisps to tide us over. Nearly fainted when we were charged £17.50 for 2 glasses of wine and 2 packets of crisps. No tariff listing that I could see. Decided we would not stay for dinner.

Ate lunch here today - had wanted to go to the Forrester Arms across the road but unfortunately they don't serve food on a Monday. I'm giving it a rating of two only because the young man serving was polite. If we hadn't been so hungry I think we would have sent the food back. How is it possible to produce soggy but half burnt chips? Overpriced, bad meal. To top it off Celine Dion wailing out of speakers - torture.

We arrived just after 1pm, sat in the bar area and ordered and were served a drink immediately. 10 minutes later we placed our food order. At 1.50 I went in search of a staff member to find out if the food was likely to be served that day. Strangely, it arrived within minutes. I ate seafood curry, which was good, if lacking in any heat and my companion ordered vegetable curry which was mostly made up of large chunks of marrow interspersed with large chunks of tomato and seemed to be lacking any curry taste at all. Understandably, she was not impressed. Bearing in mind that when we arrived there was one table of 4 occupied in the main dining area and we were followed in by a table of 6, then 3 and another 2, the place was hardly busy. On a number of occasions in the past 2 years I have eaten here, always thinking it must be an (unforgiveable) 'off' day and hope each time it will improve. Sadly not. Another group had to chase up their order and were brought drinks on the house as way of an apology. We were not offered this. If we had been it might have almost persuaded us to give it another go, but not to be. I am not prepared to pay a bill of £24.50 for an indifferent meal and exceedingly slow service again.

I arrived at the cedar inn to have lunch but was met with the worse service you can imagine. I sat down at our table waiting for the waitress to come over the see what we wanted to eat, 10 mins later she came advising us the kitchen was busy & it would be a 30min wait for food which we were happy to wait & she gave us the menus & left, after 30 mins she did not come back to even take our orders or ask if we wanted a drink eventually we gave up and left, were staff didn't even acknowledge we were leaving must be a regular occurrence.

We're always looking for nice places to have a drink or a meal where we can take our dog, Alfie, after a walk. We were able to book a table in the lovely light sun room and there was even a bowl of water laid out for Alfie when we got there. All the staff were very friendly and we received a warm welcome. The food was delicious, full of flavour and generous portions too, great after a long walk on the Fife Coastal Path. We'll definitely be back!

My wife and I had lunch at this restaurant last weekend. First impressions, were good, the building looked clean and inviting. The bar was also warm and cosy with a stone fireplace in the centre of the room. The restaurant portion of the bar was not being used for lunch. Meet and greet, was fine and friendly with no delay. We were asked where we would like to sit, shown to our table, menus presented, specials explained and drinks order taken. Menu. Typical pub fayre. Various good looking deals available on a daily basis. We chose the curried parsnip soup, haddock and chips, and ploughmans lunch. Service, food and drink arrived promptly, but a mistake was made with my wife's order, and she ended up with a ploughmans sandwich, she, however was fine with this, but we informed the waitress who checked our bill, and then informed the girl who took and placed the order. She came over and apologised. Matter closed. Dealt with well. Food, the soup was gorgeous, and my wife really enjoyed the sandwich. My battered fish was ok, with the batter being a bit pasty, and the chips seemed like deep fried oven chips, but the mashed peas were lovely and sweet. Overall, value was good, with 3 courses, and 3 drinks for £30. I have given it a 3 but we would certainly want to return.

On the 29th my friends and I were lost and the Cedar Inn found us. Tucked away down shore road, was the most delightful little surprise you could ever possibly imagine. Upon entering we were made to feel instantly at home. The drinks flowed and and so did the conversation. To say we had fun would be an understatement. A wide selection of board games in the conservatory offered fun for all, as did the pub quiz machine. Entertainment was first rate and the prices were just right. Thanks Lorna and the gang for what was a night which will not be forgotten in a hurry. All the best, The lonely traveller

As a group of ten we decided to have drinks in the bar and moving through to the dinning room the waitress made the transition and meal very smooth and the only complaint would be that the table was to high for the chairs.

My. wife and I chose the Cedar Inn for a special family meal. The steaks were recommended to us and we are happy to echo those recommendations. The restaurant decor is delightful with nautical themes to reflect the area and the management and staff went out their way to offer the type of service akin to 5 star eating establishments. Our steak dinners were absolutely delicious and well priced. Almost want to go back right now as I write this review.

Claims to be a real ale place but very little choice other than take it or leave it. The service is terrible if you are not a local. The manners of the staff leaves much to be desired.

Nice atmostphere, friendly staff, good prompt service and, for midweek early birds (1800 - 1900), low prices. Real Ale not as good as in some places and a limited choice.

During a weekend away in Aberdour, Fife, we made an incredible find - The Chartroom Restaurant which is located within The Cedar Inn. Although pub food is served in the bar during the day, in the evenings you can dine within the Restaurant. The first thing that I noticed was how lovely and friendly the staff were. Very down to earth and attentive. The waiting staff in some Edinburgh restaurants could certainly learn a few things from them! It was especially nice to see people who looked as if they genuinely liked working there. For starter I ordered the breaded calamari strips which was served with a garlic mayonnaise dip. The portion was slightly on the smaller size compared to other calamari dishes that I have ordered before but it was worth it. It was the first time I’ve had it breaded rather than battered which made a huge difference to the taste. It seemed fresher, more crisp and not a trace of oil to be seen. For main I chose the Chicken & Chorizo pasta which was served in a tomato sauce. I love the combination of the meats together so even though it wasn’t the most exciting of dishes I am so glad of my decision because it turned out to be the best pasta dish I have ever tasted! The chorizo was soft and very flavoursome – you could tell the chorizo was of very high quality. The sauce was beautiful and there was no sign of any oil which can often put some people off the dish. My Mum & boyfriend opted for the Sirloin Steak served with hand cut chips, crispy onion rings and mushrooms. The cut of meat was amazing – thick, extremely juicy and cooked exactly to the way they had asked. My Mum has a small appetite so couldn’t finish her steak but of course I willingly took some off her hands! I’ve always been disappointed when I have had a medium rare / rare steak before due to it’s chewy texture (I think some restaurants can opt for less high quality bits of meat) but this was top quality. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding. By this time I was completely full but no meal can be finished without at least one spoonful desert! The portion was perfect – not too big at all. The cake tasted moist and surprisingly very light and fluffy rather than stodgy and dense like the sticky toffee pudding you often get served at a pub. Some people might be disappointed at that but after a huge meal and fair few wines this was exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend a night away in Aberdour even if it’s just to enjoy a meal at The Chartroom! They bar have lots of different events so look out for them when booking your next weekend away, check out their upcoming events on their website.

We decided to go for lunch today to The Cedar Inn. We phoned just before 2pm to see if they were still serving lunch and were advised we would be served if arriving before half past two. On arrival the waitress showed us to a table. A few minutes later the chef went passed and glared at us. She then said " why are you sitting there, this table is reserved"- to which we replied "the girl showed us to this table. She then replied " well it is reserved and you will have to move". She did not apologise that we were advised to sit at this table nor did she advise we would be shown to another table. We then deicded to leave as she continued to glare at us. Not one of the staff apologised for this (even though the waitress sat us at the table). The chef at The Cedar Inn is the rudest person I have ever came across in any restaurant and I would avoid tis place like the plauge( Maybe she was annoyed as us turning up after 2pm when lunch stops at 2.30-however, we did phone prior to leaving & were told it would be fine)
