Top-notch nosh! I’ve had good meals, but tonight’s experience was up there with the best. The beef Wellington was superb. My wife had the duck and was hugely impressed. Highly recommended!

Good food, well cooked and presented. Came with friends after a day at the races and no one was disappointed. I had the pork loin in black pudding and Parma ham. My only remark would be that the black pudding was quite mild and the treacle tart not very treacly. Lovely views of the river.

This place has amazing views of the river and I was really looking forward to my birthday lunch unfortunately it was a complete let down I ordered the sirloin steak which was cooked perfectly however it is served with such a huge slab of Cafe de Paris butter (literally the size of the steak) that as it melted my plate and steak turned into a bright orange oil slick and eating it was like eating a slimy eel as each bite made my mouth so oily!!! I had nowhere to tip my chips out of the metal Container or they would have been soggy and inedible so I couldn’t eat them either as they were hotter than the sun inside and not actually that nice anyway I can make better at home!!! My partner had the burger and the bun at the bottom was so soggy he had to eat it with a knife and fork as he couldn’t pick it up!!! I’ve given it 2 stars as they served a lovely Prosecco and a decent sticky toffee pudding although the 1 mouthful serving of ice cream wasn’t even worth putting on top!!! Definitely will not be returning it was a complete disappointment

Hadn't booked, but they were able to accommodate our group of 4 albeit with a half-hour wait. A seat in the comfy lounge and a drink soon passed the time before we were shown to our table in the conservatory overlooking the fast flowing River Teme. Orders taken promptly and politely and it wasn't long before the food appeared. Large portions of fish and chips, a delightful crab salad and a park escalope. Not fine dining, but good well presented and well prepared food accompanied by a carafe of wine. All reasonably priced. Car park has limited space and can quickly become cramped. Will return.

Lovely food, I was just disappointed that having stated we were away celebrating our wedding anniversary that they sat us next to a wall and seemed to have some kiddies crèche going on in half the bar area. I’m not quite sure why this appears in the Michelin guide, as we felt this was upper end pub food. Very attentive friendly service, but for being a limited menu, the food felt mass produced, I had the steak which was cooked exactly the way I asked and reasonable quality, but our other dishes were bland. The one thing that saved our meal was the local cheese at the end, very good quality and great to share. The wine list is good too. Sorry we only scored you 3 out of 5, but we felt the food would have been more inventive. PS beautiful setting at dusk

Chicken Kiev was not on the menu so my wife had the dressed crab, which she said tasted like it was out of a can. She complained, but nothing was offered or done. The menu included dessert martinis, but when I asked for two regular martinis I was told "we do not serve martinis". Sticky toffee pudding was not sticky, just a plain sponge with sauce. We have had much better elsewhere. Not worth the money.

We are on holiday in the area and did a bit of research before booking, with plenty of positive comments steering us to give the restaurant a go. We were promptly shown to out table with a lovely view overlooking the river. The roast lamb was cooked to perfection, being pink and tender. The haddock came with minted peas and chunky chips which also went down well. The service was good and it was a relaxing evening as we were allowed to sit and enjoy our meal without being hurried out the door. This is clearly a popular restaurant and it is recommended you book in advance as people were being turned away as the restaurant was fully booked the night we visited and this was midweek.

There are two roast options and some pub classic menu choices available. We had the Roast Beef and the Asparagus & Lemon Tortelloni. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and the roast beef very tender. There is also a roof terrace which is open air and had a perfect view looking up at the town and river. As we were celebrating our anniversary we were determined to not allow what happened initially to spoil our day, but my low scares have to reflect our disappointment! I searched for a dog friendly restaurant and The Charlton Arms came up. In the Open Table link there was nowhere to opt for a dog friendly area so I wrote in the notes instead making it clear we were bringing our dog. I also sent a message on facebook messenger asking for confirmation that someone had noted we were bringing our dog ( I didn’t receive confirmation but I could see someone had read it! We arrived early so we’re happy to have a drink while our table was prepared. However, a rather sullen waitress came to tell us that as we had not mentioned when booking that we had a dog they had reserved us a table in the restaurant- which was NOT dog friendly. I pointed Ted out that I HAD and explained how, and also showed her my messenger message!!! Her response was quite flippant as she said well nobody read the notes!!!! At no time did anyone actually APOLOGISE for what was not my fault, but we were told there was a table on the terrace. Had it not been a gloriously sunny day the table they offered us would have been fine, but it was the only one without a sun parasol and when I asked if there was possibly a different one, the waitress ( a different one e) simply smiled and said ‘no’! Again, no ‘sorry’! Within a couple of minutes a couple vacated their table, which had a parasol so we were co fused! Another waiter came by and we asked him if we could move onto it and he said very politely, ‘yes of course. You can sit wherever you like’ I have no idea why the girls who showed us to our seat would not have been aware that a table was about to become vacant, and in fact another two, very quickly. The waiter who also then took our order, was very hospitable and treated us as the customers and was delightful. We would have given him a tip but his shift finished before we left! I’m awaiting reply to email

An excellent meal with a fabulous view. Lovely server, reasonable price. Had been a bit put off on arrival when bar staff served two pints of froth and didn't seem to understand why I was waiting, and still perplexed when I asked for them to be topped up once they'd settled. Combined with GB news running on the massive TV screen, it was an inauspicious start. A rather brusque Maitre d' just made us more unsettled. However, when taken to the restaurant things really improved - our table had full views of the river, interesting choices available on the menu, and the food was really good. We had a very pleasant and helpful server, and enjoyed the whole experience.

Finding the Charlton Arms in the Michelin Guide, we expected good things but were underwhelmed at what was offered. I wanted a pre dinner drink but was rushed through to a table in a large dining room which had great views but lacked ambiance, and told that they would bring a drink to the table. I was then left for ten minutes without being asked what I wanted… the menu was different to the one posted at the door on the same day, and the vegetarian choices were limited. My dish was only just okay and excessively creamy. The staff were all lovely, and very friendly but lacked service finesse.
