Nice atmosphere in pub and staff friendly but my Sunday lunch was awful. Staff asked me abut a minute after placing food down if it was OK well had hardly started. My pork was grey in colour and tough, roasties where like soggy burnt potatoes. Veg was boiled within an inch of its life and parsnip was hard. You pay extra for yorkshire which was tasteless and cauliflower cheese which was not bad. When they took my plate away and I mentioned this staff said but we asked you if it was alright, twice in a high voice. Oh ill tell chef, we paid and left nothing was said on leaving except have a nice day. Will not be recommending to anyone which is a shame as it's a nice atmosphere.

Fellow coeliac- Rejoice! This is a friendly, well-run pub , with a nice choice of safe-to-eat gluten free meals. I had a delicious hunter's chicken with chips and salad, my husband thoroughly enjoyed a vegan bean cottage pie followed by the best ever jam sponge and custard (so he reports!). Handy location for visiting the Abbey, too.

Under new management this past year or more, the place, the food and the atmosphere all make it worth a visit. With a homely lounge bar, beer garden and sports bar. Street parking and a large car park nearby, proximity to the River, The Abbey church, the English Bridge and other places of interest. Walking distance from the town and close to supermarkets and a cinema. This pub has everything including a very friendly landlord. Highly recommended. The year's anniversary of the new management and it is going from strength to strength. Musical entertainment, the monthly quiz and a great atmosphere tonight. I've just called in for a late lunch and a quick daytime pint and I had some good, no nonsense food. A pint of Butty Bach shandy, I know sacrilege, was very tasty and not too sweet. I had the Cumberland sausage, mash & peas, gravy boat to add as reqd. Very tasty all round with three large sausages. For dessert I had the apple pie and custard. A lattice pastry crust, caramelized and full of flavour with custard, again served on the side was creamy and more than enough. My meal was finished off with a black coffee, ( with a splash of milk and a chocolate ) and like the other courses it was served, as I prefer, at my pace, not too rushed. Free WiFi, friendly staff and a steady flow of customers. TV available in the beer garden and sports bar, outside seating, again in the garden or at the front of the pub and 3 hours parking opposite the pub. A thoroughly relaxing and pleasant experience that I would recommend on the way back from town or after a stroll by the nearby river.

Awful from the moment we stepped in. Miserable staff and the young lad with the beard clearly thinks he is gods gift - I believe he was even the manager which was laughable. Told us we could sit 'wherever' seems more interested in talking to the men at the bar. Lipstick on my wife's wine glass which certainly was a poor start. We both had steak and had to sent these back as were not cooked as requested. Overall poor service, sticky tables and dirty glasses. Would not recommend or visit again. Save your hard earned money. and take the Mrs into town for better food and service.

The historic grade 2 listed Crown facing Shrewsbury Abbey provided the ideal stopover for an early Sunday lunch. Already busy when we arrived we were quickly shown to a table and handed menus for our perusal. The various choices on offer were in line with expectations and we promptly placed our order for starters of flaming`shrimp (served with mixed leaves and mayonnaise). This was followed by deep fried scampi and traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The food was well seasoned and in good size portions. Glasses of Sauvignon Blanc completed the picture. A well prepared and tasty meal, comfortable seating, pleasant ambience, and a competent table service from the attentive young waitress. An enjoyable first visit most likely to be repeated at some future date.

A good selection of real ales and ciders and a nice lunch menu; starters, small plate mains, jacket potatoes and sandwiches, all reasonably priced. Parked nearby as the closure of the town centre to traffic meant there was a big queue at English bridge. Never really noticed The Crown pub, it's been refurbished. Pleasantly surprised inside and there was a nice little pave d garden at the rear. Pint of London Pride and an open prawn sandwich and chips. Very good food and reasonable price. Bit of a fuss about providing a table number at the bar, went outside and the table number had been scraped off! Sachets of ketchup, cheap and messy.

The water consistency if the gravy did not bring it back to life unfortunately. Think it should be called pie of the week not day. Had good reports about the food so we decided to try out for our friends birthday. Booked for early evening table ready for our arrival. After deciding what we would like to eat went to the bar and ordered and arranged a tab. Starter's arrive quite quickly and we're all of reasonable quality only comment was that the soup was from a packet. Main course arrived 20mts later which was very disappointing. We had a rump steak M/R, rump steak salad and two 10oz gammon. The first steak was very grisly and burnt in places, Steak salad was steak and lettuce only no other veg what so ever. Lastly the gammon were very salty veg was all frozen don't expect carrots cauliflower and Brockley to come out of a frozen packet. We told the waiter of our grievance to which he took back to the kitchen. We were then offered a round of drinks which we greatfully received. We would like to say that we enjoyed our day/night out and the Crown atmosphere but we all feel that you need to improve your food if you want to compete with pubs doing food with entertainment. Ex publican cheers

I rarely give an Excellent review but The Crown deserves it. We went for a drink at lunchtime. We were early and there were very few people there. It was so nice to be greeted with a genuine Hello! How are You? - rather than being treated like just another customer to process. The wine and real ale we chose to drink were excellent, and the Lite Bite ciabatta sandwich I had was very reasonably priced, nicely presented, served in good time and of good quality. Outside, the area is nicely presented, clean and has pretty good heaters for a chilly day. The loos are very clean, well equipped and tidy - very important to me. The Crown has only relatively recently reopened after a long period of closure and an obviously extensive refurbishment, done to high standards. Its setting, opposite the stunning Shrewsbury Abbey adds to its charm. There are some lovely pubs in Shrewsbury, and The Crown has to be in the top rank.

We had our yearly family get together on New Year’s Day. There were 22 of us (12 adults, 3 under two, 6 children). We were seated in the lounge area of the pub at the far end which gave us our own space to enjoy the family and the food. We were seated at four tables which worked well. Each table had a nachos starters which were great for children and adults alike. We all had either turkey or beef Sunday lunch ( those ordering turkey didn’t automatically get a Yorkshire pud but on request was remedied promptly). The meat was plentiful and served with roasts. Veggies (red cabbage, mixed veg, carrot and suede) were served separately in dishes and jugs of lovely gravy. Everything arrived hot, tasted wonderful and the two young girls worked hard serving but did so with a smile. The puddings arrived and the accommodated the youngsters sharing menu portions. For taste, atmosphere and service we were very impressed with the bill. We will definitely be going again. My only personal criticism is I had chips on my turkey lunch? I dislike mixed veg at any meal I go out to eat.
