Review for [Pub Name] in Beckenham I recently had a Sunday roast at The chancery in Beckenham, and it was an enjoyable experience. The roast dinner itself was nice offering good portion sizes. While the meal was satisfying, the highlight was definitely the Yorkshire pudding: perfectly golden, crisp on the outside, and fluffy inside. It might just be the best Yorkshire I’ve had! Overall, a good spot for a relaxed meal with friendly service, earning a solid 4/5.

My one and only visit here was unfortunately at a Wake, so not your standard gastro pub review. The staff were excellent, polite & judged the mood perfectly, can you be cheery & reverent at the same time? Well I think they did it. The food was great, (a buffet) the sausage rolls for me stood out, they seemed home made and top class. The pub was nice, outside tables in its own courtyard garden, good beer selection. Only drawback is the location. On the main road and very limited parking, with many of the local roads having parking restrictions. As I say not a regular review, be nice to return for a meal and give the pub a full review, but what I saw, I liked.

I had a networking meeting here and the buffet they served was delicious. I was particularly impressed that the server in our room went all the way back to the main bar downstairs to fix me a decaf oat cappuccino and brought it straight to me when it was ready.

A friendly efficient pub, food is good and large portions. The chicken wings are huge!!

Came later on a Sunday so was expecting a lot of the roast menu to be gone; but chicken was dry, Yorkshire dry, 1 roast potato and a third of the plate full of parsnips that were placed under the rest of the food, so did not realise until started eating - hopefully next time will be better if we go earlier

Fantastic pub, went with family and friends. Bar staff are warm and welcoming.

We had a nice drink here on a Saturday afternoon it was very busy in the bar, so when my wife paid for 3 pints of larger and a packet of peanuts with her credit card she did not hear the barperson say how much it was. Weeks later we got her credit card statement and they changed her £29.70 very Expensive

This used to be a favourite of my family. Our experience on Saturday afternoon changed that view forever. The food quality has gone through the floor. Everything is either smothered in Honey Mustard Dressing or the strongest Balsamic Vinegar Reduction, making everthing it touches inedible. There is no chance to savour the flavours of anything. The staff that could not serve you in the bar were running around dropping off orders at wrong tables. Their clearing up skills were laughable. They clearly did not have any training or a desire to earn their keep and impress the guests. One manageress tried to appease, but hr efforts were pointless, as the absolute depression of an unenjoyable afternoon had already kicked in. Sending back all but one of the mains was not much fun - And were not even that fussy. What on earth has happened? Change of management/Ownership? Cost cutting? Who knows? Really sad - Because it used to be fantastic.

Group of 20 Sunday Lunch. Big thank you to Frankie. She helped me from the start with pre-organisation and on the day (24th March).Food was really good. Didn’t hear any negative comments. 20 was a bit of a squeeze but Frankie and co did well to make it work. Small disappointment with the wheelchair access for one of our group. The gangway into where we ate was a challenge and some stuff had to be moved. In the end the good food and service soon made up for that. Well done Frankie and co. 🙂

I have had to change my review of this pub unfortunately. I have been suffering with food poisoning/a bad stomach for the last 7 days as a result of eating the pie of the day at this pub. I have noticed that this pub only has a 3 star hygiene rating so this might explain things. Please be careful!

A funeral reception upstairs. Great venue, lovely food, great choice of real ales (I love real ales) and very friendly, professional and welcoming staff.

Seen this place before and always been intrigued, finally decided to squeeze in a visit late on a quiet sunday. Had a little chat with the guys at the bar, Ben and Rohan, who were friendly. I drank Anytime IPA from Meantime which beats most mainstream beers for me. The general look and feel of the place is nice too, with good artwork, giant windows and a clean and modern looking bathroom. Will be back!

Held a birthday gathering with a few friends, I reserved the back bar area. Atmosphere was great and the bar staff so lovely, great place for friends to gather.

Went here for a simple Saturday lunch. Really friendly staff, great food with lots of Veggie and Vegan options. Mixedparty so this went down really well. All really r Tasty. Good choice of specials and wine. Altogether a great experience from a young team! Thank you, we'll be back for more.

Love this place - the boss, Michael is always really friendly and happy. It's a genuine pub which also serves great food. Whenever I'm in the area I always pop by. See you soon!

The staff, food and atmosphere here were all wonderful. We came for Sunday lunch, my partner had roast beef and all the trimmings and absolutely cleared his plate. I am veggie and can not have dairy or gluten. I was given a vegan and gluten free pie, with roast potatoes and veg and vegan gluten free gravy. All absolutely delicious and i was very impressed. Vegan and gluten free cheesecake for pud was scrummy too. Thank you xx

First time visiting the pub, we booked a table for Xmas Eve lunch. The service was very good, food was very nice as well and the portions were a good size, we throughly enjoyed our afternoon. We will be defently be going back very soon.

Freezing cold inside restaurant. Radiators stone cold. Pathetic fan heater perched above the door directing heat towards the bar only. No wonder the staff were warm. Customers certainly were not.

Comfortable pub with a pleasant ambience and welcoming, helpful staff. The steak and ale pie with accompanying vegetables was excellent and there were three well kept real ales on tap. Worth travelling to, recommended.

We popped in and they were fully booked for the dinner side area but the lovely lady said if we managed to get a table at the bar area we could eat there if we wanted 🙂 and we got a Sunday roast veg option and fish and chips so everything ended up great and was very tasty too.

I went for a Sunday roast and the chicken I was served was raw. Not just a little undercooked, inside it was almost out of the pack raw. The staff were very apologetic, offered a replacement and a complete refund for the meal. Still worrying that that dish was allowed out of the kitchen.

A great place. We had the best pie we're ever had ! Was delicious - packed full of steak and the pastry was perfect. The pub is cute, spacious tables and a nice vibe.

Lovely spot for a Sunday roast with a beer garden when the weather allows it. The food is delicious and the service is equally great. Bonus point: you're just behind Beckenham Park!

Quite a noisy pub lunch, the food was excellent and the waiters were friendly and helpful.

Place was quiet as it was a Monday. My brother’s pie and mash was cold but my and my husbands’s food was good.

Had a family meal here. All good, nice atmosphere, nice food. Parking is a bit of a mare. Popular place, so need to book.

I love The Chancery. Sometimes the food is a bit cold and they don't give enough publicity to our favourite band - 'Arry and the 'Atstands - but it's nice and friendly, with a good atmosphere and a great little garden at the back for summer drinks.

Excellent food from starters to desserts. Best food I have ever had in London . Traditional cuisine contaminated with a touch of new Mediterranean flavors. Freshly handmade Mayo, excellent meats , great menu with variety . Chef Mirko Mesiti gives a touch of excellence to any dish. He is has a real passion for food coupled with a deep knowledge of tastes and flavors. He has been so nice to come and meet us at the end of the service because we sent our compliments . I understand why booking at The Chancery is so difficult . Defo recommend.

We finally grabbed a table on a busy Friday night at 7, not reserved sign on table. After getting drinks we were told that we have to leave because the table was "reserved" there was sign of that so we had to leave and waste our money or stand. Very unhappy, do not visit unless you have a reservation

Great atmosphere Sunday music night

Fantastic night in the private function room. Food was amazing, service brilliant and having our own bar and barman was the icing on the cake. A wonderful evening and I can't recommend this place more!

The former tavern seems to have retained its pub ancestry but none the worse for that. However, you first have to find your way in which could be made a bit easier. We were a largish group and full marks for bringing out all the food pretty much together. But while my fish was fine, the treble cooked chips were very disappointing and another diner found some of his still hard in the middle. My serving of mushy peas could only be described as mean. Generally, however, everyone enjoyed their meal and the staff were efficient and friendly.

A local of ours as it seems to bring a lot of other Irish people too. A little disappointed in the staff’s slow reactions today. When I was finishing my glass of red wine I found a large broken glass at the bottom of it. Thankfully it was big enough for me to not swallow it but still went in my mouth. The staff were apologetic but nothing more and did not react when we left despite possibly swallowing parts of it and causing possible damage. More than disappointed that there was no means to make up for this situation.

This is a pub with a bit of an identity crisis. The restaurants area is still sharing space with the pub and you’re not quite sure where you are. The staff were really friendly. However I’m a bit disappointed that when booking 3 days prior, we weren’t offered the Christmas menu, but instead found out it was preorder only when we arrived on Boxing Day. To be honest, we wouldn’t have booked if we had known that. Sadly the food was rather a let down. The beef croquettes were quite honestly the strangest and least appetising thing I’ve ever seen on a plate. They seemed to be just puréed beef, deep fried. A croquette should be mainly potato. These had none. They were really quite awful. Mains. Chunky chips seems like an easy thing to muster up? Nope. My partner and friend received a bowl of about 6 mammoth potatoes each. I don’t think you could even describe them as wedges. They were stupidly large chunks which inevitably where undercooked in the centre. My salmon was actually cooked quite nicely! However the strange imbalance of overly thick cream sauce and raw cherry tomatoes left it pretty much inedible. Finally, the acoustics in the dining room really were the nail in the coffin. A large table with multiple screaming children behind us meant that we literally couldn’t have a conversation with each other, despite being face to face. Such a disappointing experience.

Great staff , food and beverages

Good local i discovered with friends, it's family friendly, at least for sunday roast, the roast was about 3/5 which does the trick but i thought the meat was just fine (which isn't enough for me to justify eating meat these days) and i was not totally won over by the veggies. I guess london is quite a competitive place for roast and we might be a bit spoiled, too. service and staff all nice.

The Sunday roast is fabulous. I had the veggie option and my partner had roast beef. Both were ample portions and very, very tasty. Staff can’t do enough for you and Lauren the manager is so welcoming and makes everyone feel like a regular. It’s a great example of a traditional pub.

Really hearty tasty roast. Good portions, tasty meat and the veg was really well cooked. The creamed leaks were delicious. Had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and it was superb, amazing flavour, good size and the custard was to die for. Reasonable prices, about £28 per person for three course and a drink. Staff were really helpful and efficient.

Had a really delicious Sunday roast for lunch at The Chancery today. My husband had beef and I had the veggie option - all delicious and the leeks, parsnips and carrots were especially delicious (side-note: the Yorkshire pudding was HUGE!). Lovely desserts too: they have classic options like sticky toffee puddings and crumbles with a choice of cream, custard or ice cream. Great wine selection, friendly staff and a stylish cosy atmosphere too. A really nice place for a pub lunch: about £28 per person for a shared starter, two courses and a glass of wine.

Wow -amazing! Had a big birthday last week and a party planned in London for 8th of October. Because of the train strike I had to find another venue quickly! With bookings already in the diary, the Chancery were still able to accommodate. This is my fav pub in Beckenham. The 5 mins walk from the high street is well worth it - not a bug fan of many other beckenham pubs. Different vibe! I had 50 guests and had the best night!! The band were fantastic, venue - lovely, beer delicious, atmosphere- welcoming. Most importantly staff were accommodating and service excellent. Thank you Chancery! Honestly, I cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Thank you!!

Was a little worried about the negative reviews but we had a great Sunday lunch for 3. Roast beef and chicken delish and big portions; Eton mess was delightful; service was impeccable. All in all a wonderful experience!

They do a mumma cuppa Wednesday mornings, it's lovely! Cake, coffees they put out squishy floor mats and baby toys. Food is lovely, portions are quite large! Staff are friendly 🙂

Meet my friends there after a long journey, very hot and bothered. Had a cold glass of soda water and a nice bottle of wine. We all had the same salmon meal which was absolutely delicious. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Will definitely return.

Good ale, though a little pricey.

This pub doesn't even deserve one star. We visited for the first and last time today. We checked before ordering drinks that they were still serving lunch and they said yes we serve lunch all day on Saturdays. Moments after finding a table and ordering our drinks went to order lunch and they then said oh sorry we've just received lots of orders so we aren't taking any more orders for 25- 30 minutes? And so we left.

We tried to have lunch here today and before ordering drinks checked that they were still taking orders for lunch. They said that yes they served food all day so we ordered a dink, found a table and went back to make our food order only to be told they weren't taking any more orders for 25- 30 minutes. We cut our losses and went elsewhere. Entirely unprofessional establishment. Can't rate the food as we weren't given the option to order.

Good experience, the staff was very friendly, the plate beef was wonderful, lovely kitchen!!! I advise you the place for any party !!!

Made two visits to the pub and was disappointed in the food both times. Ordered a lamb roast dinner and a garlic prawn starter. The prawn starter had no taste to it at all and was served with a messy salad swimming in some kind of water that had soaked in the bread. I mentioned this to a member of staff and was told that it’s one of the most popular dishes. It looked amazing but I really can’t see anyone re-ordering it. I absolutely love garlic prawns and this was not enjoyable. I tried and left the rest. The lamb roast dinner was okay but needs a bit of colour on the plane as in greens. It was mediocre but would not order again.

WARNING: the portion sizes, especially the starters, are NOT small. Had a great time for Sunday lunch. It was really hot so didn't want the roast but had one fish and chips and a few starters to share between two and was absolutely stuffed. The food was good but the halloumi fries were the real stand out stars. The selection of beers is good and has outdoor seating in front of the pub and at the back. The inside has a nice traditional wooden decoration. Really recommend but be careful not to over order on the food.

Came for roast dinner ordered the prawns starter and the roast lamb. It was nicely presented and taste ok but a little bland.. staff are lovely and pub is really nice.

We had our little wedding reception/lunch there. Very delicious food. Amazing private hire room, perfectly sized. Had a beautiful day. The prices were very fair and the staff prompt and friendly. Thank you The Chancery!
