Very disappointed with the brie and bacon baguette I ordered and also with the response from staff. I politely said that I was not expecting the baguette to be buttered and the answer was well, that's the way it comes and they would not like it if it wasn't buttered. The baguette was removed, leaving the filling and I hoped they would offer another piece of bread, but no. Was left hungry and feeling a very under valued customer.

This pub is so welcoming. We sat and ate in the beautifully maintained garden that has a lovely view of the countryside. The food and service were excellent, I recommend the whitebait starter with good old fish and chips to follow. We then moved back inside the pub for coffee, yummy desserts and a friendly chit chat with the owners. What more could you ask for.

Met friends for a get together, it was our 2nd visit here & their 1st, they commented on the friendly welcome they had received. Very varied menu available & we all enjoyed our chosen meals which were Scampi, Fish Pie, Ham, Egg & Chips, the person who had the Fish Pie said it was the best she had ever had! We then all enjoyed a variety of desserts. All this at reasonable prices. This is a traditional Pub with old fashioned values which meant traditional good service and courtesy. We and our Friends said they would like to return some time soon

Went for Sunday lunch. It's a quaint old school traditional pub a few hundred years old with décor to match. Menu had Sundays roasts with a nice varied selection of traditional dishes. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. All dishes were well cooked and flavoursome. Does what is says on the tin. Great value for what we had. Restaurant was full so I guess they must be getting it right. If that's the kind of experience you're after I recommend you give it a try.

We called in here on our way to Sissjnghurst. We sat in the garden as it was a lovely sunny day. The good news is prices are reasonable but I don’t know how they have achieved the overall good reviews (though I note recent ones are not so good). We all chose salad as it was a hot day. The salad leaves were those nasty ‘florette’ ones. Just a few corn kernels and a bit of tomato and cucumber. Mine was served with synthetic looking ham and husbands with grated cheese. Daughter had a ploughman’s lunch. That was marginally better. One slice of apple, one celery stick. Pickles already on the plate (running into each other) and a big slab of cheddar cheese. Unforgivably, the bread was the long life baguette kind that you ‘take and bake’! We won’t be returning. Very old fashioned.

Fantastic time had by all. Jackie and her staff were brilliant. They managed to cater for 14 of us at one table with plenty of space. The very reasonably priced food was great and the Larkins best even better. I've always admired the pub driving past and I'm really happy I suggested it for our Xmas family get-together. The beer garden looks amazing and will be well worth coming back to when the weather warms up. All the best to the Chafford Arms! I hope Boris and the horsemen of the apocalypse don't grind you down.

I recently went to the Chafford Arms with my family for my birthday meal. We arrived just as they opened for the evening. Even though masks are no longer required all the staff wore them and hand sanitizers were there to be used. I found the staff to be very jovial and was given a warm welcome. Having been shown to our table we were given the menu’s and was asked if we wanted any drinks. The drinks duly arrived and our food order given. We did not have to wait long for our meals. I had the Scampi and chips which I found to be well presented and very tasty. The others had the steak and ale pie, fish pie and a ploughman’s.

I have visited the Chafford Arms on a number of occasions over many years either with a group of walkers or just with friends and it has been consistently good.8 of us decided to go for lunch this week and we were not disappointed. Some of us were cautious about eating indoors; but as it was rather windy we had little choice. The staff were really helpful and our table was laid up in an area with 2 windows open. All the staff were wearing masks and Covid is obviously taken seriously. The food and service could not be faulted and it was a pleasure to be there again. Thanks to you all for helping to make the occasion a happy one.

What an amazing place! The garden is stunning and the views amazing. Pretty much every thing on the menu is home made. We had lasagne and veg chilli. Both of which were so nice. The salad was nice and fresh with a tasty dressing. The desserts were fab, the lime cheesecake was so light prob one of the best I’ve ever eaten. Service with a smile and really friendly. We have lived in the area for 15 years and never been here, well that’s going to change! What a great place for great food, drinks and service. Looking forward to trying a roast next time. So pleased that The Chafford Arms has survived lockdown. Paul and Jackie, together with their staff are doing a great job during these times. I only get to visit the pub during my annual camping holiday and couldn't wait to visit. The pub is fully Covid compliant, with all the expected measures in place, making you feel very safe. The lovely, homely feel to the pub remains as does the warm welcome from the staff. I managed a few visits during the week both with friends and my girlfriend for a meal. The food was lovely as usual, and the portions are more than ample! The garden at the back is a great place to sit and enjoy the scenery and if it's inside you like then pop into the bar for a drink and a chat. The locals are all friendly and welcoming too so no doubt you'll have a new friend by the end of the evening!

Not at all friendly! So I left ! I live in the village and wanted a pint in the beer garden with my dog! ( like I did last Sunday without the bother!)They have a registration one way system which is a great idea in these current times. Tried to explain I only wanted to sit outside with a pint and register my name and pay for a pint, but was given the “ no dogs” speech “go round to the other bar”/“have you booked?” -so with this “welcome” I left and won’t be returning - It’s sad because I have eaten some great lunches and twice had take away fish and chips (which were great )during lockdown - such a shame

I looked online for a pub for a stop off on our way to the south coast. I came across The Chafford and decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed. Immediately we walked in there was a cheerful smile from behind the bar. Ordering drinks I was asked if we were eating. As we were there for a lunchtime bite a tab was opened. My partner ordered a tuna mayo baguette. It arrived with a small side salad and chips. Delicious, she said. I ordered whitebait and, beeeg mistake, their version of British nachos. Chips, beautiful chips, covered in chilli beef and cheese. I say, beeeg mistake as the portions, of both, were huge. I couldn’t finish it all. All in all a wonderful, friendly pub with fantastic service and really good food. Certainly worth a four star review. Thank you one and all.

Anyone reading my reviews would imagine that I spend my time complaining about bar staff, but when one is confronted by a grim-looking female who actually rolled her eyes at one point, I feel aggrieved enough to mention it. Despite the cold introduction, the pub’s garden is lovely with a beautiful view and the tranquil ambiance on a sunny day is great. I will return here and sample their food and see if the customer/staff interaction is better. Maybe the lady in question was having a bad day, but honestly, her expression would have stunned a statue!

The Chafford Arms is a great local pub. It isn't a 'gastro pub' and the food is not exotic though it is well cooked, well proportioned, fresh and tasty with a menu that has an excellent range of choice for both the carnivore and the vegetarian. As usual our table was booked and I was first to arrive. Greeted by very friend hosts and eventually 7 of us were made to feel very welcome. The pub is very well placed with great views from the garden. Plenty of tables with shades for eating outside. We elected to eat inside where we seemed to have out own area slightly sectioned off from the rest. When the food arrived it all looked great. I went for the fish pie ( home made see pics ) which was really tasty, plenty of fish with mash and cheese top. I also had my usual sparkling water though water was provided on the table. All the other meals looked equally as good and no one complained. We had arrived at 12.30 and left at 2.45 a long time for one course but it was so comfortable we were just chatting after the meal. We would probably been asked to vacate the table if it had been busy. The staff were all brilliant and happy a great service and I am sure we will be visiting again. My bill was 14.00. Initial impression from being ‘greeted’ by, we assume, the male joint-owner was not memorable as he seemed reserved or distracted by other matters: as stated in the title, the location and surroundings were spectacular and the history of the pub was displayed for all by the numerous photos on the walls therein.

Stopped off for a sunday roast, was really looking forward to it, but I'm sorry to say 'it was not what I was expecting' as soon as it came over, I knew by looking at it, that I wasn't going to like it.........and unfortunately I was so right.......the only way I can describe it, is that it looked like and tasted like a packet meal, it was not what I would call a traditional sunday roast, no flavour whatsoever, and the vegetables tasted just like water, certainly wasn't worth the money. It's certainly a beautiful pub, very clean, beautiful gardens, and in a lovely location, everyone was frindly, accept for the landlord that is, he seems to find it ard to crack a smile, and thats a great shame, cause one of them doesn't cost a thing........so would I return 'yes', however, not in a great hurry and if i did, it definitely wouldn't be for a roast.

Friendly welcoming pub from the owners in a lovely location. The lamb & mint pie is the best pie on the planet (though there's plenty of alternatives) and the desserts offer a huge choice, are homemade and first class. The only problem is that there is too much choice! The beer is important to me and that is kept to perfection. If you like good pub food, you'll do well to find better.

Paul & Jackie offer an uncomfortable welcome to sour your pint - We were admittedly a large group who stumbled across this pub after a short walk from our campsite. We arrived at 12 to a near empty pub and not wanting our kids to disturb others, we all sat in the large beer garden. A few entered the pub to get menus and was met with - "You better not be with that group out there we have only got 4 staff on and you should have booked ahead". We understand that large groups can be a handful, but they are not impossible - it would have been a simple matter of saying that with such a large group their may be a wait for food - which we were fine with as we had all day to kil. - there was no hint of apology or attempt to accommodate us - they simply did not want our custom. With no were else to go we decided on a few bowls of chips and some beers which we were served with a large helping of hatred. After paying for our 10 pints - the landlady loudly apologised to the next person for the wait, again with lashings of contempt towards us for taking up their time SERVING DRINKS!When ordering a second round, one of the group witnessed a very cheery local enter the pub and ask Jackie if she had any of their lovely jacket potatoes available today. To which she produced a miserable huff and reluctantly said she would check with chef. - it seems it was not just us that got this sort of treatment. The pub is a beautiful building with a lovely beer garden, but I cannot believe that they are able to keep this pub open, when offering such terrible customer service.

We were a family party of 10 celebrating my daughter's 40th birthday. The food and service were excellent and we were made to feel very welcome in this charming country pub. A relaxing and very enjoyable occasion.

I dropped in for lunch during a walk, and found there was only one table free. The food was tasty, with an interesting menu, the Larkin's ale was good, and the service was efficient. Just two suggestions for improvement - the gentleman who served me could maybe smile just a little, and I had to ask for the menu board for desserts, though the people on the table next to me were offered it. Otherwise a pleasant occasion.

A welcoming village pub/restautant with character. Gave them 30mins prior warning and they found a snug table for two where we both enjoyed huge plateful of deliciousness. I opted for the steak and ale pie and the pastry was so light it nearly melted. Vegetables cooked perfectly. My friend hugely enjoyed her scampi. We were too full to sample the dessert menu which displayed a scrumptious assortment to cater for all tastes. Efficient table service despite the restaurant being busy. Will certainly return here. Thank you Chafford Arms. Our visit was on a typical (this!) summer's day of intermittent showers so we sat inside, but on leaving, we encountered a sunny spell and investigated the garden and outside seating area. What a delightful spot! Definitely recommend, but book first!

Stopped here for lunch, friendly welcoming pub with a nice large beer garden. Dogs welcome as well but restricted to certain areas of the pub. Staff friendly, polite and provided a very efficient bar and table service. Food was good too with a varied menu. A couple of fish bones in my battered fish but other than minor point I can Recommended this pub if you are in the area.

We visited the Chafford Arms on a Saturday evening without having pre-booked. We were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a lovely meal & bottle wine in the garden. Can thoroughly recommend this lovely country pub with its extensive menu & well kept garden.

We visited this pub for an early Saturday dinner. Sat outside in the nice garden, lovely location and views over fields. Pleasant menu: something for everyone, very friendly staff and fast service. We enjoyed it so much we returned for lunch the following week. Haven't eaten inside, but looks just as nice!

Really enjoyed our visit today, even though not quite warm enough to eat outside and enjoy the garden. Service excellent, food very good and generous portions (the Ploughmans is enormous). The roast beef was fantastic, and evidently home cooked. Good selection of veggies as accompaniment and plenty of choice on the menu. Can't really find fault but if being hyper critical the Ploughman's was more of a cheese salad - no pork pie, apple or celery. All in all though a really great pub and will definitely visit again.

There is nothing actually wrong with the Chafford Arms, but I’m afraid it was not really my sort of place. Stepping inside reminded me of hotel bars and restaurants from decades ago, deep pile carpets, polished dark wood furniture: I did not spot a stuffed moose head but it’s the sort of place where one would have been right at home. The place was clean, tidy and the staff were welcoming at this lunch time on May Day bank holiday. The bar area was quiet as was the restaurant area where we chose to eat.The gardens looked very inviting, well tended with nice up to date furniture; if the weather had been warmer I think it would have been an excellent place to while away the afternoon. Our main dishes were OK, but I’m afraid rather uninteresting and using my new measure of excellence, no better than I could have managed at home or from an M & S ready meal. My wife’s scampi and chips were OK, my Chicken in Hoisin Sauce with rice was nothing special and fairly tasteless. For dessert we both chose Gypsy Tart, which stimulated a discussion about old school dinners – the Chafford Arms Gypsy tart was much better than I remember it being at school.Prices are reasonable and our two course meal with a couple of drinks came to £43, service not included. If you like straight forward food in a dated environment then you will enjoy the Chafford Arms.

Nice small branch to socialise with friends/family but the coffee is horrendous, anyone from Europe would be shocked at the quality, it's not just this branch in particular but the whole chain, I have no idea why management allow such mediocrity to persist nationwide. The latte was boiled milk essentially but the cappuccino was burnt completely, retraining the staff for the entire chain is needed however people continue to go so there will be no change in quality. And 4 pound for a cappuccino in a takeaway cup is a travesty

Lovely meal. Staff so friendly. Food simple and homemade. Good choice. Had the quiche Lorraine which was very good. Desserts were all homemade as well and delicious. Big car park and the children loved the play area.

The pub is beautiful. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the Sunday roast was a disappointment after being recommended. Roast potatoes were so hard like golf balls the Yorkshires were the same ... Chicken portion is tiny considering how much it costs. Pudding for one of us had to be sent back. Won't be returning sorry.

We had lunch here after a walk with the dog around Shoreham. Opted for seniors menu. Chicken chips and salad, steak and ale pie, followed by chocolate fudge cake and lemon tart. Food of good quality and generous portions. A very acceptable pint of Green King IPA to wash it down. At 13 quid for two courses, very reasonably priced. Friendly and helpful staff and dog friendly. Recommended and would definitely return.
