The Cawdor Restaurant in Carmarthenshire

The food is outstanding, the service is great - the room is kinda big and echoey and feels a bit like a boarding school canteen, but honestly the quality of food makes up for it. Could do with some drapes or something to soften the acoustics.

Saturday afternoon tea is a must, great choice ,great service.

Unfortunately we had a very poor service. We waited over 40 minutes to be served at the bar; having been told by three different staff different and conflicting information as to whether they would be serving food or not; at the same time, seeing customers being able to make food orders who were after me.

I was last here as a child more than 50 years ago, and I had bigged up my childhood memories of Llandeilo and the hotel, so the stakes were high! Parking is only available for hotel guests, but the staff gave clear directions to a nearby carpark over the phone. Sunday lunch was delicious, beware though, the portions are huge. The staff were all charming and attentive without being at all intrusive.. I would definitely recommend booking for Sunday lunch, because the spacious restaurant was full soon after 1pm and people were eating in the bar.

We stayed for 3 nights dined at the restaurant twice. We found the customer service excellent all the staff we met were friendly helpful and welcoming. The breakfast was superb really tasty cooked breakfast and plenty of choices. Evening meals again delicious wide variety of options to choose from to suit all tastes. Portions are large but asking for a smaller portion was no problem. Our room was spacious really comfortable the bathroom great size and the shower perfect. Lovely Myddfai complimentary toiletries. Great to see the Cawdor supporting this special business. The location is great base for so many attractions and the town itself provides lots of different shopping opportunities. Diolch yn Fawr

Had mid week dinner here. Plenty to choose from on the menu, reasonably priced wine, and such lovely friendly staff, both in restaurant and the bar.

Always enjoyed a visit here , unfortunately Sunday lunch today was poor , cold veg, gravy and Yorkshire puddings . no offer to change meal , just to re heat what we had . We had a table in the lounge as dinning room was full (this was fine ) but no waiter service , well at least not for our table ! The tables behind us were certainly being treated to table service . My already cold food was left for a trip to a busy bar for drinks , while waiters were clearly serving other tables with drinks ! No offer of an apology or discount on payment for cold food . This is really sad , and I’m not one for giving poor reviews, but we gave good money for poor service in what used to be such a lovely place to eat .

Not the usual standard we have come to expect from lots of visits to the Cawdor. Sadly on this Saturday lunchtime visit we left very disappointed. Service extremely poor. Portions of chips very small. Sandwiches not usual standard and garnish very poor. For the amount charged this was by far our most disappointing visit to the Cawdor. Standards have seriously deteriorated.

I don't often give reviews but the Sunday lunch was superb, better than I could have made. Melt in the mouth lamb and tasty vegetables.

We’ve passed the Cawdor many times and always talked about giving the restaurant a try, well, we are glad we did. We opted for the bar side, as we didn’t want table service. The fish and chips were really good, it was a big portion so we left very satisfied. Personally I would have preferred the batter to be a little crispier. All was washed down with a smooth pint of J. Buckley Best. The Staff were very friendly and welcoming, albeit a slight delay in being served. We would visit again, especially to try the burgers, they looked amazing.

Had Sunday lunch here. The Cawdor is one of our favourite places. The food was excellent as was the service. You can have two courses for £26 or three for £32. The portion sizes are very generous. Highly recommended

Held a Christmas llunch for a large group here (55+ people)Service from staff very good but catering management not at all accommodating or helpful. Although over fifteen hundred pounds spent plus bar takings. Free tea and coffee was not on offer but was proffered at a further £3 a cup. Such short sightedness, as we will not be using the Cawdor on future occasions throughout the year, worth in the region of over £5,000. So maybe ok for everyday dining but not for large groups. The seating/table layout was chaotic. Our party shared a room with other diners and a small wedding party and one couldn't help but feel sorry for them being overwhelmed by such a large group.

The most delicious two course festive meal and a fabulous breakfast.

We ate lunch at the Cawdor for Beaujolais Day with a bunch of friends. I’ve never been before so wasn’t sure what to expect, but I’d heard the food was very good. I have to say I was super impressed by the whole experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. The 3 course lunch was very tasty, with excellent quality food and generous portions. The menu was wonderfully curated especially for Beaujolais Day. I had confit duck rillette to start, then Beef bourginon and tarte citron to finish. The wine was lovely and the service was outstanding. We were a large table and they took care of us really well. I loved it all and I would definitely come here again and recommend it. This was our first visit to the Cawdor Hotel and I’m pleased to say that we will definately be returning again. As a party of six we stayed for one night, met for drinks and had a meal in the restaurant. All the staff including reception, bar, restaurant and the cleaning team were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was outstanding. Dishes worthy of mention in particular were the fresh mussels and the trio of pork, which were both excellent. If I could make a suggestion that would elevate the mussels dish even further it would be to provide it with some fresh bread so that the lovely tasting juice of the dish could be eaten easier. The full Welsh breakfast was also very good, although it would have been nice to have had a better selection of cereals and fresh fruit, which was lacking. The hotel lounge area was comfortable and pleasant and added to the relaxed environment created within the hotel. The hotel is well located on the main street in Llandeilo with plenty of secure parking to the rear. Rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. We stayed on a Thursday night and the only criticism that I have is that the bar closed at 10pm which was very disappointing because we met as a party of six to celebrate a 60th birthday. An excellent stay and a very pleasant experience and we look forward to our next visit.

Lovely atmosphere in this town centre restaurant with lots of different areas to sit. The food was delicious with something for everyone, from sandwiches to main meals.

Really positive experience at the Cawdor Arms during a holiday to the area. We’d booked an early table (6pm) and so we’re the first in the restaurant but it soon became busy. The waiting staff were attentive and polite and the food was excellent and good value for money. If o had one small suggestion it would be to have the music at a slightly lower level (but then again my friends always say I’m old before my time when it comes to this kind of stuff!) All in all - delicious and enjoyable. Would thoroughly recommend!

Lovely tasty food but the shepherds pie presented in a very small ramekin is probably most suitable for a child's portion. It is classed as a 'bigger bite' on the menu which is misleading. Left hungry this time

From the first step into the Cawdor the staff were amazing Waiting staff were friendly and very attentive. Group of ladies and everyone praised their food. I had the lamb Sheppard's pie and Waw it was tasty and can't wait to go back for another. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon

Called in in the off chance for a lunch table for four, first time visit. Very impressed with the friendly efficient service, the food was excellent , good lunch choices and not too spendy, the ambiance was great, in fact we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience and will be returning asap.

This restaurant serves good food at typical prices, including bar style options. This place has a relaxing atmosphere with a pleasant 'buzz'. I ate here twice, selecting options with local ingredients. The service was good.

Friday lunch outing for work. Really enjoyed the food, well prepared and presented and very tasty. Amazing value. As a fussy diner, it's rare I say I'll definitely be back but this is one of those exceptions.

We have had another fantastic couple of nights staying at the Cawdor. Food was amazing as usual. As for the staff they were fantastic. Always helpful courteous and always smiling. Big shout out for Adam in the restaurant such a joy to speak to goes above and beyond as do they all, also Angie and all the bar staff and forgetting the fabulous reception staff. It's a while since we've eaten here. The service and presentation are very good as are the surroundings. The food needs some attention. I had the pate to start, which was very good but too large a portion. My main was the pork dish. The pork was rather dry and the piece of crackling could have been cardboard, disappointing. The potatoes on my plate had been sitting under a hot lamp far too long, hard skins. I had to ask for more gravy, far too little on the plate. With more attention to detail to the food this good be a very good evening. The wine list needs to be bigger.

Wonderful surprise in the heart of Wales

Excellent food and service. Plenty of choice. Cosy atmosphere. Staff checked on us regularly. The food was plentiful.

A really lovely experience at the Cawdor today. Lunch with friends. Table in the window for 6 of us. Food was excellent. Huge portions meaning that only two of us could manage a pudding. Coffee was hot! Unlike some restaurants where coffee is Luke warm. Staff were very welcoming and attentive. Lovely to see staff smiling - happy to help but did not rush us at all. Sunday lunch with friends. Table pre booked. We were seated in the room off the main dining room . On arrival service was good but after our main courses no staff to be seen to take our dessert orders. Eventually we stopped a passing waiter who took our orders but the water we requested never arrived. Again it took ages to get our bill. The food was very good . Excellent portions, hot and tasty especially the mussels. Beef and lamb were good but knives were blunt and would not cut the beef. All food was nicely presented. Overall a very good meal but service needs sharpening up.

Nothing else much open in Llandeilo on a Monday, so a bit Hobson's choice, but we weren't disappointed. My Sausage [3 proper butcher's] and Mash was really good, but needed at least one vegetable included; I ordered a side of seasonal veg which was excellent but huge! Similarly, my wife's Veg Tagine was lovely, her side of chips lovely but entirely OTT. House Tempranillo was bit wishy washy. Service was excellent from the young and local staff, with a special word for Lynne who is a star in every sense (fortuna tecum in futurum maneat, senorita).

Family Sunday lunch, 3 courses very much enjoyed by whole family. Great friendly service and no problems when my grandson preferred two starters as his main course choice. Our go to place never lets us down. Consistently good food and great service.

We picked the Cawdor Arms for dinner after a solid day of hiking as the reviews looked very promising. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the building is lovely. There was a lot to choose from across 3 menus. My partner and I ordered a cheese board (£15) to share and a burger each(£17.50e). The cheese board was lovely! Phenomenal value for money, it was a meal in itself as the portions were very generous, you would be hard pushed to put together similar yourself from a supermarket for any less. Unfortunately both our burgers were underwhelming. They were ungainly sized and filled with a lot of fillings that made it impossible to pick up and eat. My pork burger had shredded bits of raw, tart apple, soggy onion rings and pulled pork which I suspect wasn’t made fresh and didn’t taste of much. And the patties in both our burgers were very bland, chewy slabs of meat lacking colour from the grill. The chipped spuds that came with tasted just like something from my 90s school dinner experience. A smaller and more refined plate of food could have made it an enjoyable experience.

The little town is filled with boutique shops and this fits in really well. It’s in a nice building in the high street and the room is decorated in a tasteful modern style. Food has a Welsh theme as you might expect and is executed...

Not a huge menu choice for lunch

Had a family lunch on Friday before Xmas. Loved the food the service (particularly) as they were 3 staff down but it never felt stressed. Will definitely be back again. Two of us had the goats cheese and salad but not just any goats cheese and salad. One of the nicest versions we've ever had. Hubby had a cottage pie he said it was really tasty. Food was amazing for the festive menu 3 course! Understand its Christmas and busy but the computer in the restaurant either had 4 people looking at one screen or going into the kitchen you had tables having to go and get their own drinks! I asked for an Espresso martini told only cocktail they were doing was a belini baring in mind I could physically see someone with a martini! Then to top it off given the bill and told to go to the bar to pay surrounded by very drunk people why they can't take payment in the restaurant I have no idea seems very lazy! A real shame we were returning after we spent a night here for our engagement 3 years ago!

Great food and feel friendly staff and a variety of choices. I'd recommend the lamb mint burger with red onion marmalade. Great triple cooked chips crunchy yet not dry in the middle. Staff where great and quick to serve and ready to help you with any extras you needed. Great experience.

Very nice restaurant. Probably mostly caters for the higher end of the food chain, and charges accordingly. We had goats cheese and duck bao to start, both very nice - especially the duck, followed by pork triple and duck breast. Again, the duck was perfectly cooked, pork was a little dry throughout.
