The Catch in Plymouth

Lovely fresh food, fish great, all well cooked and service very good. Would go again and recommend. Nice atmosphere and friendly service. Not disappointed.

The best food and the best staff , very rarely do you get this feeling of somewhere being very special

Booked a few weeks in advance as I ordered specific meals for a birthday treat for my mother and Father,2x John dory,dressed crab and a 2.5 kilo lobster. All of which the chef managed to source and all meals were outstanding.the saff could not have done more. Well done everyone our meals and time at the catch was superb!! Will definitely be back again and again 👍.

Clearly Joyce has allowed the fumes from London to go to her head! Simply the best seafood restaurant around anywhere in the country. Visited multiple times and the food and service always impeccable. We always bring my parents here due to limited options in Plymouth and as they are used to French cuisine and are pescetarians feel it is the highest compliment to give to the Catch that they demand we visit every time we see them (which is fine by us!). Keep doing what you are doing and please ignore the irrelevant reviews that will envitabley come as your reputation grows as one of the finest establishments in the South West and beyond. Cant wait to come back and try the new menu!

I came from London looking forward to eat in top Seaford restaurant. I was surprised this came as number one 5*. The food was not flesh, l had baby sqiuld very salty awful. I could hear microwave bleeping. Over expensive. It was a cafe. The only 5* is the server. People who give this cafe 5**** has limited palates. Oil has not been changed for long time.

Delicious seafood , especially enjoyed the scallops. Will definitely come back next time in Plymouth .

Fantastic restsurant the food was first class . I can’t rate it highly enough every dish we had was superb . We had lots of little plates and I particularly recommend the crab bombs and the haddock Arancini . Lovely staff excellent service fantastic place

Popped in because I had a craving for seafood. Saw they offered a single oyster option. Never tried them before and I must say I came away so impressed. The baby squid calamari with it's squid ink garlic mayo aioli was divine. The crab/prawn linguine was light and beautifully cooked. The chips were crisp and covered in sea salt. All in all a wonderful meal run by great staff. Will be back soon.

The catch what an amazing restaurant it’s not that big it’s sitting about 30 people max but the food was amazing seafood it’s like finding a gem in a rock operate by three people very simple and the food is great the wine was amazing so was the service but generally the atmosphere what they created for the five of us was amazing I would like to thank the Chef and his staff for giving us a great evening Definitely 5 star

Had a late lunch/early dinner after my son’s graduation. Had a wonderful celebration meal. Food was so fresh and absolutely delicious and the service was perfect. Would definitely revisit if we were closer!

The rating reflects my disappointment with the booking system. I booked via the link on the website (it took me to Table Table) - I booked a table for 8.45pm (it was that or 6ish), late to eat but happy to do so for the right restaurant. My other half and I have 2 small children so date nights only happen around once every 6 months - and are very special to us. The restaurant was specifically chosen because my other half loves seafood. We arrived to be told that they didn’t have the booking and had no space for us. The lady also said ‘we’ve been having issues with the ‘table table’ booking system. I’d suggest removing the functionality from your website whilst it’s fixed then! At 8.45pm it was too late to find somewhere else - date night was ruined. If you want to eat here I’d suggest ringing to book a table.

Visited with family for a birthday meal. Delicious food, fresh and local. Would recommend to anyone visiting the beautiful Barbican.

I’m reluctant to say how good this place is, because if people find out then I’ll never get a table. It is very small in size, only fourteen covers, but it is big on flavours. The quality of fresh local ingredients is amazing with beautiful sweet lobster and delicious anchovies that explode with flavour. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Some of the comments below state there is no toilet which is utterly bizarre because there is one. It’s a tiny restaurant so how they couldn’t find it is truly staggering. We ate there while dropping our son off for uni, but will go back whenever we’re in town. Highly recommended.

Tiny restaurant but absolutely perfect. We shared spiced king prawns and scallops ceviche to start followed by crab linguine and lobster risotto. Absolutely perfect, so fresh, absolutely delicious. Wrapped up with affogato (ice cream with a shot of espresso and almond liqueur). Service was excellent and we were made to feel incredibly welcome. We will be back!

Walked in at 8:30pm, met with “Fully booked”, yet only two customers in the shop having wine. No reserve signs on tables though. And the slightly irritated waiter said they only have enough food for the people that booked. Very disappointing.

My friend was rejected when visited alone even though the restaurant had many empty seats. When I visited again with my friend the next day, we almost got rejected again (miscommunication between servers, but still we were heard that the table is not available for us at the first time) even though the restaurant had no customer at that time and only one more table filled before we left. The customers who entered while we were eating were greeted without any sign of rejection. We felt we were discriminated almost. Also, they did not open at 10am as informed. When we came in around 11am, they told us to come back quarter past 12pm, and when we came back we almost got rejected.

Everything about this place is fantastic. I've eaten here a few times and every time it's absolutely amazing. Please try the crab linguine.

Despite the fact we live in a town with a fishing port there seem to be very few decent fish restaurants . The Catch is an exception , cannot fault the cooking ( Sea Bass was excellent ) so we will definitely be back .

Food was really good but scallops were a bit tough. John Dory with crab was brilliant. Nice oysters. Mussels were nice and plump. Although we had booked well in advance it was almost impossible to sit in the space on the bench that we had been allocated so we had to walk around town for half an hour in order that a spot could be found for us. Starter, main, bottle of white wine just over £100 for two.

The best restaurant in Plymouth! Just order anything on the menu, you will enjoy it.

Its small but perfectly formed. A very intimate fish experience. Great food lovely service and a fun relaxed atmosphere. Book unless you really want to chance your luck as there are only a few tables. Lobsters are large and the portions are perfect. Wine is very good value. A great experience. More importantly they love dogs

I took a business guest out for lunch today and was not disappointed. Excellent food probably the best linguine I’ve had for a long time.

We were so lucky to be able to just pop in at 3pm and get a table for two at 6.30pm that same day. Definitely the highlight meal of our stay in Plymouth. If you like fish do not, I say again, do not miss an opportunity to eat here. There are only 12 seats and what was really nice was that en though there were only three couples, anyone coming in was politely turned away! Made for a very cosy and intimate experience. See photos for some of the simple, delightful dishes - we could have tried it all and I'm sure we wouldn't have been disappointed with anything, it was all delicious. Next time we plan to be in Plymouth I will be booking The Catch well in advance, we would be so upset if we missed the chance to eat here again.

I really hope these guys do well but there is definitely room for improvement. I wasn't even allowed to finish my sentence when I was greeted. I was interrupted to show me which table we were at. I think that's just down to shyness/youth/inexperience. I get it. I've been there. I hadn't realised that it's not really a restaurant but a very small space with just a two high tables and chairs. It doesn't even have a toilet. I'm afraid I can't get behind paying restaurant prices for a place without a toilet. I believe it's the law to provide a toilet if you have 10+ seats. The food was fantastic (though definitely a little too salty) but the rest of it was disappointing. I love to see independent places do well so I do wish them all the best.

Amazing food and service. Just a bit too cramped for my liking when you're unfortunate enough to be sat at the little side shelf. Some may say intimate but being wedged between your partner and the front desk/bar isn't ideal.

What a superb restaurant. The service is fantastic and the food is something that you have to try to believe. The portions are not unreasonable and the price is totally fair based on the quality . As a foodie it takes a lot to impress me as I am very critical but the food I tasted this evening was very special. Aside from the food - Staff are extremely friendly and our waitress was very knowledgeable regarding the menu and was happy to make recommendations. We got rather carried away, as the food was so delicious, working our way through many dishes like a tasting menu ordering far more dishes than we intended to. I particularly loved the lobster Risotto for example. I know I'm going on a little but In my opinion this is the best food I've tasted in Plymouth for a long time. I wish the chef every success in the future and hope that personal ambition does but detract from the joy of creating quality food. We will be back!

Delicious monkfish. It came battered which I wasn't expecting. Perhaps I hadn't noticed on the menu. I ordered cabbage which was devine. I could've had 4 portions of that and been happy. My friend has lobster risotto which she enjoyed. She had mussels after as she was still hungry. They were top notch too. Its hard to get a table here as they are so busy at peak times. Had a wonderful meal here this week- oysters/ calamari / followed by the dish of the day which was sea bass with a bean stew and a lobster risotto. Absolutely delicious! Also remarkably cooked by a 16 year old chef called Jake. He was trained by someone who was trained by Rick Stein. He’ll be a famous chef one day. The front of house guy was lovely too.
