The Castle in Kensington and Chelsea

Delicious food, excellent selection and very good service. One slight problem; I have been frequenting the Castle on and off for the past 17 years and what depresses me is how so real Pubs go down the 'rebranding to Gastro-Pub' route. The only thing that Gastro should be in front of is 'enteritis'. Pubs, especially London pubs as old as the Castle, should embrace their history; yes produce lovely food/move with the times, but don't alienate the drinker and make every seating position/table an 'eating table'. I assume this means if you come in for a drink, if every table is booked, you have to stand........this is not the welcoming atmosphere of a historic hostelry.

Have working locally for a few weeks and this pub has become a favourite! Superb staff, great food and drink. Keep it up guys!

Amazing service from Agi and Jacob. I was made to feel extremely welcome from the moment I walked through the door. As someone with over 15 years of experience in the hospitality sector, it's amazing to see two individuals so passionate about their work and the service they provide. I'll definitely be back for a return visit.

Good pub with good food and nice atmosphere

Traditional pub with a neighborhood audience of regulars. It was in this pub that I had the best fish and chips. Non-greasy cooking, fresh haddock, everything was perfect and the local beer was superb.

Great shabby chic pub near Holland Park tube. Nice beer and great value wraps (big enough to share). Super friendly staff.

Being 2pm-ish on a Wednesday, it was quiet. A quick pint before the journey home... A 3 means "It's OK", according to G Maps. Apart from the bar maybe needing a lick of paint, it was OK and we were content.

The Most Fabulous Place To Eat in Holland Park. The Vegitarin/ Vegan are Beautifully Catered For. Which Makes A Great Change. Love and Recommend Highly .

Arrived around 9.30pm and ordered food for 6 people. Food was lovely which included a vegetarian option.

They need to clean the beer lines! Totally undrinkable! Adore this pub the beer taste awful.

Frankly I sent several complaints a couple of years ago because the staff and management were so poor. Now, so much improved and we enjoy going again. And we do go 2 or 3 times a week. So glad you made all the right moves.

The best pub in West London. Best bar staff, best manager; some could do with more politeness.

All s bit mediocre. We were shown to a table in the corner and that was about it for about 15 minutes. We then realised that the drinks list had a QR code on it so you could order and pay directly from the table, just like at a Wetherspoons. We were struggling to get it to work on our phone and my wife managed to flag down a waiter who brought menus across, and took our drink order. Our starters of Scotch eggs came, and were actually pretty good. No one cleared the starter plates away but our mains of shepherd’s pie and burger arrived. Thankfully the waiter at this point moved the starter plates and I ordered another drink to go with my main course. The food was ok, if unspectacular. The shepherd’s pie was apparently unseasoned and the layer of cucumber on the burger was a new one on me. We could have fed this back at the time but there was no check back whatsoever. The second drink didn’t arrive so we gave up and asked for the bill. Again the plates weren’t cleared. At that point I felt I had to tell the waiter that we weren’t too chuffed with our experience and he had the good grace to waive the service charge. I hate leaving negative reviews and it’s such a shame because this is a gorgeous pub.

Helpful staff booted solo drinker from the booth for 6 of us. Would recommend for local drinks after work. Food is great and ambience nice too.

Sunday roast was incredible and the staff are very attentive, my favorite place to come!

Food was very good and hot. Drinks were good when they were served but part order was wrong, part order not delivered. Service was not good, had to wave unpteen times to attract sole server and then were ignored. Never asked if food was ok or did we want more drinks or anything else. Whilst food was very good we do expect more so won't return.

Great service, reservation both for a small group to watch the rugby and a bigger group (7 of us) then for dinner. Shout out to Santosh for looking after us so well. Will defs be back.

This could be the worst roast dinner I’ve had in ages. Not one thing seemed to have even touched hot oil, the potatoes looked like they’d come from a tin and the gravy was as thin as water. Staff were very pleasant though.

Great food menu , I had perfectly cooked wild boar sausages and creamy mash, my parent had the cod and beans. Food well presented and tasty, staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful atmosphere inside, will definitely come back

We had a great time in castle. Initially we went for just drinks but the food smelled delicious and we ordered loads of food which was top notch. The ambience was extraordinary. We are most thankful to Santosh who was extremely friendly and made our experience memorable. Santosh is an amazing professional and looks passionate about his job. The Castle used to be a great local pub especially for the Sunday roast. Went a couple of times with friends for dinner in the last year and noticed that the management has changed along the staff. Food was mediocre, small portions for a high price, same thing for the drinks. I had the shepherds pie and looked like it was the frozen one you can buy at the supermarket, the burger was nothing special and same thing for the fish and chips. The place also looked understaffed, only 3 people on a Saturday evening means delay with the food and just a general lack of care (not any fault to the staff itself who did their best). No senior staff as well to make sure everything was going ok, no one came and asked how the food was or if we want any other drinks (we didn't anyway but they normally come and check if you had a good meal). I am really sad to write this review as The Castle used to be our go to place when we had friends visiting or in general to spend a good evening with nice food and comfy atmosphere but I don't think we will come back again unless there will be an effort on better food and getting some senior staff to look after the team who works there. I also don't understand where the 5 stars review are coming from (unless you had a beer and some crisps or very low food expectations and lots of money to spend).

This is my local pub so the location is ideal :) I went for lunch with family on Boxing Day and thought the food was really good, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we all enjoyed it.

Decent pub with mostly great food. I absolutely loved the fish (I think it was cod). Probably some of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. However, the sticky toffee pudding was not great. Loads of dried fruit and tasted more like a Christmas pudding. Don't destroy a classic that everyone loves with something different. When you order a sticky toffee pudding you have an expectation of what you want and it was disappointing for all of us. The service was great and I'm sure we'll be back for other occasions
