Wow, what a little gem. We were sent there Monday after our original choice wasn't serving food. It was so nice we booked again for Friday. Owners were really friendly and the food was excellent. Can't wait to see what Friday brings.

Not much a pub for atmosphere. Very very few people were in there and the staff rude. I can't recommend this pub, unless you need to use the loo.

Popped in for a rump steak after work , lovely flavour as it was from a local butchers complemented with homemade chips, We finished off with homemade sponge pudding and custard Highly recommend We will be back again!

Friendly, quiet and chilled place with good choice of drinks. Nice atmosphere and great seating area inside and outside have lovely garden area where you can smoke. Easy access to toilets. Friendly bar staff and friendly locals with welcoming vibes.

Absolute gem of a pub. Made to feel very welcome when we got there, a lovely selection of Ales plus the lagers on offer. The food was amazing, I had steak and Stilton pie, which was really tasty and packed with steak, hand cut proper chips (no cardboard catering supplies at this pub!) The owners couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome and were very friendly. If I could give this pub a higher score, I would!!

We were warmly welcomed by Sharon and Paul into their traditional pub, a great start particularly after the wet miserable weather outside. The menu had such variety and catered for everyone. We had curried parsnip soup and whitebait then I had Moussaka and hubby had hunters’ chicken - both delicious. We even played ‘shut the box’ (they have a wide selection of games to use) while we waited for the chicken to be cooked from fresh. Altogether it was a lovely evening.

We searched online for somewhere to have lunch in Axminster. The Castle Inn revealed it had 4.5 out of 5. We were not disappointed. The pub was quiet, but we had arrived just after meals were starting to be served. We were invited to choose a table in the restaurant. We were provided with the day board and printed menu to choose from, together with an explanation of what was not available that day, only two items. We were asked for our choice of drinks, which were quickly served. Both my wife and I chose bubble and squeak which consisted of two fried eggs and three rashers of bacon, and in my wife's case two sausages instead of bacon. In both our opinions the bubble and squeak was cooked as it should be. Slightly browned edges. For dessert my wife chose two poached conference pears with ice cream, whilst I chose bread and butter pudding with custard. No complaints about the quality or quantity of any of our choices I would say this. If you love freshly cooked home style food, this is the place to eat. The owner said it was their choice, when starting the business, to ensure customers were not served minimalistic amounts of expensive food. She certainly provided the evidence. Two courses with two soft drinks £33.98.

Me and my partner visited here for the first time today whilst on holiday. Such a homely pub serving great comfort food. The owners are so friendly and welcoming, going above and beyond to cater for their guests. The only downfall is that you aren’t closer to Birmingham, otherwise we would be regulars! Thank you again both for a lovely evening.

Have eaten here before and, again, wasn't disappointed. Had lasagne but asked for chips instead of garlic bread. Wasn't an issue. It was delicious. Considered a dessert but too full

This was the most disgusting food I have ever been served in my life. It was obviously a budget microwave meal but the landlady was trying to pass it off as good quality butchers meat! Potato was hard, cheapest rubbery cheese, cheapest wet slimy ham. We offered to pay half as we couldn’t eat the meal and she refused this offer and forced us to pay for the meal. Absolutely vile experience. These reviews must be from fake profiles or from owner themselves.

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a joke. Sharon is so rude, food is awful, untidy and just all round disgusting.

We picked this place for a lunch meeting with friends. The food was good and freshly cooked. We ate in the bar because we had a dog with us, so the surroundings were quite basic. Beer was good.

Stumbled across the castle inn on Monday and found it to welcoming and friendly. Had food that night all freshly cooked. And since we've been back 3 nights this week as working in chard. Would recommend this pub well worth a visit.

Stopped off on the way home from holiday. The Castle Inn was the only pub doing all day food off the A35 and we had 3 very hungry kids. The owners were very welcoming and child friendly. We ordered pie and chips, steak, lasagna and chicken balls. Every meal was delicious! We cleaned our plates and even had pudding which was also delicious. The food is brilliant, home made and very comforting. Highly recommend this place. Food, ale and service is just perfect 👍 We’ve now found our favourite stop off. Thank you to all at The Castle Inn.

Fantastic to see that they do food from 1200 to 2100. Seemed like a good back to basic menu with a great theme for Good Friday. Very welcoming landlady. We wish them all the best as they seem to be trying very hard.

Went out for a meal and to be fair, what a gem of a place, food served was amazing and the owner (I’m guessing) were so polite and friendly, will be returning definitely.

Went with friends to the Castle Inn, to watch Wales v England rugby. We were welcomed and well looked after. We ended up staying for some great food and cocktails. Fun evening including the walk back up the hill to Kilmington!

Stopped here for a nice evening meal whilst away for a friend's wedding. Handy parking outside the venue. Staff are beyond lovely and the food was incredible. Great variety of food, all home cooked and fresh and fantastic value for money. If in Axminster again would definitely pop back. Thank you.

The castle is welcoming and friendly. As a vegetarian and vegan we weren't expecting many options in axminster but the owners had so many options to eat. As they make everything fresh, they were happy to alter dishes for us if we wanted as well, they also cater for gluten free customers. To drink, they had a few cask ales on, which were lovely. All in all, a great pub, highly recommend.

Family meet up half way between us for New Year. We were all warmly welcomed, especially our dog and had the most charming and fab service throughout our stay. Wholesome, genuine food and drink served with humour to boot. You're making such a good go of your new establishment, keep going!

Won’t be using this pub again Been in there twice First time the male owner was being unwelcoming, curt and monosyllabic to a couple Second time this was the experience I received If he is on the spectrum I am really sorry for my comments but it is the most unwelcoming pub I’ve been in and I am 56 and been in a few pubs. I am sure he will post a response in line with the other responses, which in essence is normally just as antagonistic in nature.

Just a old boozer that had clean up looks bit DIY with no character even French cafe style . Never keen on food smelling pubs ,but had the right drink so happy.

Nice friendly Inn on side street of axminster, plenty of seating inside and outside, nice little garden, out front tables and chairs to sit and watch the world go by, we didn't have food but menu looked good and smelt nice, friendly welcoming staff and nice atmosphere, TV to watch sports or board games for just entertainment, reasonably priced, would go again and recommend

Whilst attending a nearby music festival we popped into Axminster to watch the Women’s football final at The Castle, a really friendly pub. The beer is well kept. An excellent menu with fine home cooked food at reasonable prices. We will definitely return next time we are in Axminster.

Great home made food and a lovely garden

After eating here once before when catching up with a friend, I suggested to mum that we go here for my birthday today. We had delicious home cooked meals that we both thoroughly enjoyed. The owners are really lovely, very friendly and when I was ordering and mentioned I was vegetarian they gave me lots of options. The desserts too were lovely. I would highly recommend.

Whilst on holiday went and had a meal here , it was the best meal all week we will definitely be going back there on our next holiday And the owners are very nice and inviting

Really quite rude! We rang ahead to check that we could visit to watch the England semi-final with children in-tow, to which we were told it was fine as long as the children left by 9pm. However, upon arrival the lady behind the bar abruptly told us that we would not be able to stay as the children were not welcome. We did explain that we had called ahead but she just said no. We didn’t even last 30 seconds! Would not recommend. Just to clarify - 4 children does not fit my definition of large but I concede that it’s open to interpretation depending on your agenda

If you want a good pint, this is the best option in Axminster.

I came here with my family the other day for a drink and some food and was very pleasantly surprised. The landlady was very friendly and very funny, making us feel welcome. The food tasted great and our pudding was especially lovely. The Chef came out at one point telling us that he needed to prepare more rice so our dishes would take a bit longer. The communication was very much appreciated.

Nice place and friendly people. Really trying hard to make it a go of it and deserve to do so. Only went for a drink this time. Will visit for food. Lots of music on.

We had an excellent home cooked meal at the Castle last night. The owners are lovely and couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. I'm gluten free but there was a wide range of food available as well as delicious home cooked deserts. If you want a proper pub with proper good value, homemade food, this is the place for you.

Both me and my boyfriend were looking for somewhere to eat and was told to try here,and we are so glad. Very friendly and welcoming staff and the food was delicious. I had 3 courses which is very rare for me so that's saying something 😋 I highly recommend. It won't dissapoint
