We stayed for 3 nights and ate every night ,the food was very tasty and we enjoyed it. Unfortunately we were slighly disappointed with our room, details were missed ,a lightbulb needed replacing and when I opened our curtain in the morning the window sealant around the panes had dripped and not been removed which looked extremely unpleasant. There was a loose tile in the shower. There were no hand towels only on that day When I mentioned the bulb and window to the staff on Tuesday afternoon they said that they would sort it out which they hadn't done when we returned on Wednesday. We felt that the room wasn't up to superior standard as expected . On the plus side the room and bathroom were toasty warm, the water perfectly warm and the towels very soft. The breakfast cooks were very good as were the breakfasts and Tia who served us our meal Monday and Wednesday evening was excellent.

Had a lovely meal at The Castle Arms in Snape recently. I had a burger and the chips were amazing! Got to say they were the best chips I have EVER eaten. I couldn't manage to eat them all but even when they were nearly cold, they were SO crispy. My friend had fish pie with "just cooked right" veg. The pie would have fed two!. Nice bottle of Sauvignon too. Friendly, helpful staff. We also met Marley the cute Labrador puppy. Only one comment, it was a bit cool in the dining room but it was a cold night. Will definitely return. Thank you everyone at the Castle Arms for an enjoyable evening. We will be bringing our friends.

Despite slow service the food was good also the choices were good ! Haddock and chips very tasty but vegetables with the lovely fish pie were in need of more attention and had a funny taste, also a bit hard; a shame because main dishes and chips were great !

We ate in the dining room which was lovely. The food was very tasty and the rhubarb and parkin trifle was exceptional. The service was a little slow given the pub and restaurant were not full. It did not matter to us but if we had something else on that afternoon we might have been getting a little anxious.

The new owner & staff of The Castle Arms Inn were exceptional, so friendly & accommodating, a big thanks to Adrian, Louisa & Derrick for a great stay. The Castle Arms Inn is a proper traditional country pub with good ale. Our room was well maintained & well equipped. The breakfast was first class, all good quality ingredients & definitely a one that sets you up for the day. The Castle Arms had a good selection on their evening menu, along with the addition of a specials board, the food was well cooked & tasty. The Castle Arms is set in a very quiet village, however it is within easy access to many larger towns & a short drive from the A1. Highly recommend.

I stayed here with my daughter and 2 grandchildren for 1 night. The hotel is lovely and everybody was very helpful and nothing was too much bother. In the morning at breakfast due to bad weather the chef was unable to get to the hotel however they all pulled together and breakfast was excellent. They had a big shooting party in and coped with a stressful situation very professionally. I hope to return one day but would recommend highly to anyone visiting this lovely area.

Only one member if staff serving so it felt a bit uncomfortable. Why not employ a young student to help with service ? The chicken breast was more the size of a pigeon breast and the filling dry. The dessert left a lot to be desired . No background music. No real atmosphere except a feeling of tension as understaffed

We have dined here and stayed many times and the food and accomodation has always been good. What isnt good is Jills dog it has problems with other dogs and weve had a few close calls with Merlin and ours. Well this visit he managed to get hold of my Bernese and bit her face, chasing her round our table and even under a couples table next to us, who were eating as well and totally traumatised by the whole experience. The lad behind the bar managed to get him away but again the dog was snapping and snarling at him. I wrote to Jill on messenger and she wrote back and apologized and said she would investigate. Still heard nothing from her about the investigation or even asking how my dog is after the bite narrowley missed her eye just had teeth marks either side. Well if your reading this shes recovered ok after some eye cream and TLC but its a good job shes not a show dog or her career would be over...

Nice inn good food reasonably priced as well, friendly and helpful staff , must say though for a superior double room it was on the small side, not much space around the bed and bathroom was also small, the main problem for us was the heating , it was obviously set by the owners to come on at certain times , went for two nights. You cannot check in until four thirty onwards then we went into a very cold room and it took a while to slightly warm the room up, the house keeper kept opening our window, the window had a draft and so did the door , I ended up ringing up on our second day as the heating was stone cold one of the owners said she thought it had been reset( it hadn’t) to come on , woke up each morning absolutely freezing. Pub is actually closed until four thirty every day so pointless getting there to early, we kept our key when we went out as not sure if we could of got back into our room before that time, the other problem was the walk from the back of the pub to the accommodation some ten yards away ,with it being dog friendly on our way for breakfast we was met by loads of wee and some dog poo in the morning, my wife and I was genuinely looking forward to this visit and if been in summer may of been better but we was sadly very disappointed with the accommodation but the pub food etc was good.

Surprised that it wasn’t open all day but the owner showed us the rooms and left a drink in the bar to collect so no problem. Food was very good, and good choice of beverages. We recently celebrated our wedding at the Ashbrook arms in October 2020. Sean and Roszita were very welcoming & accommodating, particularly as we were scheduling the wedding less than 10 days before the date (Due to Covid levels changing!) Our guests (21 adults & 2 children) enjoyed a drinks & canape reception, while we took several photographs on the grounds of the hotel. Our photographer was delighted with the ample locations for shots including the courtyard, walled passage, Green house, & river, resulting in many fabulous shots! Our speeches were held before the meal in the initial dining area before proceeding to the conservatory for our 5 course reception. We were blown away with the standard of food, and choice on the menu. We hadn’t had time to schedule in a meal or tasting in advance, but we were assured by friends and family that the food was good! In addition Sean catered for food intolerances with ease as the Bride had some dietary requirements. The conservatory was the perfect room for an intimate group, and made for a very elegant dining space with the assistance of a local florist . On the night there was only our wedding party staying and we enjoyed the run of the hotel with a leisurely breakfast the following day. Everything about the day was relaxed and comfortable. We would highly recommend the Ashbrook Arms as a wedding venue for any couple planning a small wedding.

On the positive side the staff could not have been more friendly- however the service was extremely slow. We were there for 2 hours and managed to have one course. By this time it was 9.30 and we really didn't want to wait any longer for the dessert. The main issue for me was the way Covid is being handled. The seating is just about the correct distancing which considering the room size is an achievement. Unfortunately when someone leaves the table it is merely wiped over with a dry cloth before the next group are given the table. Also on the tables are salt, pepper and vinegar- again possibly used by the previous group and which are not wiped or replaced. Menus are also freely passed from one group to another. Having eaten in several pubs since lockdown ended this is certainly the worst for not complying with the recommendations for preventing the spread of Covid. In these current times I personally would feel uncomfortable going back.

Other meals were the steak and roast chicken and mushroom risotto which we couldn't fault. Extremely pleasant waitress and bar staff and friendly locals. Enjoyed the hand pulled beers on offer. My family (along with our dog) and I visited the Castle Arms Inn based on the reputation of a previous visit by my parents.Unfortunately, it felt like there needs to be a brush up on the basics of customer service. The young lady on front of house seemed pleasant enough regarding our request as to whether we could have a table. As there were four of us, there wasn't a table available at the time. This, in itself, wasn't the issue. The issue was with the bar manager/owner whose attitude gave the impression of, at best, couldn't be bothered with our request or, at worst, smacked of not wanting myself and my family to be there. As somebody who works in the customer service sector, I have an appreciation of civility and it would have been nice to at least had an offer of drinks whilst we waited for a table to become available. (A case of what my parents say in "Manners cost nothing").Needless to say, the lack of hospitality made us feel unwelcome and we ended up going to the town of Bedale... who made us feel more than welcome for our lunch along with our four legged family member.

Chose this place mainly because they are dog friendly and also the photos on the website looked nice. I called and the gentleman who I think is the owner was very friendly and suggested we could just turn up as it would be a little quiet tonight. So we did and he was just as lovely in person. First impressions were great. They allow dogs in the bar area which is just as lovely and cosy as the restaurant itself. All the candles and light music made the ambience perfect. However it did feel cold in the room where we were sat but when I asked if it was possible to light our fire in the room we were told no it was too late in the day to do so. Not such a big deal but I do think having both fires lit on such a cold day would be better. The food was really delicious. Good menu choice also. The owner was fantastic and the service and welcome he provided was excellent. The only reason I gave a score less than excellent is the waitress that served us didn’t seem to be very hospitable or genuinely happy we were there despite us being one of only 2 tables. She just made us feel that after our main meal she wanted us to get the bill. We stayed for dessert anyway but when I asked for the hot drink list she replied with well we do tea and coffee that’s it and also a little abruptly. We all felt that this place has so many positives but maybe in future the waitress could just try to be more like the owner and be more hospitable, welcoming and friendly. Maybe it was just an off day but regardless it was a shame as we all felt this spoilt the place a little. However I can say if you are looking for a lovely country pub that is dog friendly, has great decor and delicious food this is a good place to go.

Five of us stayed for two nights and had dinner one evening and enjoyed breakfast on two mornings. The landlord, Ian, is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The pub itself is quite quaint with seating areas near the bar and the restaurant in a separate room. There was one fire lit in one of the bar areas but its effect was quite limited so the place did not feel very cosy. Our dinner and breakfasts were good and portion sizes were generous. Our bedrooms were located in an annexe building separate from the pub itself. The bedroom my wife and I occupied was small and cramped with a tiny en-suite bathroom. The hand wash basin was very small, barely adequate. The room itself was very warm and hot water was plentiful. Parking is at the rear of the pub. The pub itself is centrally located in the pretty village of Snape.

Having extolled the virtues of this pub since first visiting in 2016, we were really looking forward to our repeat vacation in Snape and eating again at the Castle Arms. Sadly, on the 2 occasions we attempted to eat there this week, the unfriendly waitress gave the impression that she would have preferred it if we had not interrupted her busy evening. In fact, on the 2nd occasion, we were left waiting nearly an hour to place an order and we were offered nothing to tide us over in the meantime, not even a friendly smile. In the end, we gave up and left, hungry and disappointed. What a huge disappointment after having looked forward to our return visit for 2 years!

Situated in the quiet and picturaesque village of Snape the pub has the nicest atmosphere of any we have visited in the area (and we are regular visitors to this part of the world so have visited a good many!). The pub and restaurant areas are characterful and ìnformal and although some of the furnishings in the outside area could do with a lick of varnish the area itself is well secluded and a charming place to eat lunch on a hot summer day. The landlord was very welcoming with an easy charm and quick sense of humour so our party of 6 plus two dogs were made to feel at home as soon as we stepped through the door.

I must say that tonight's service was below substandard. The waitress had little regard for the fact the potatoes was not cooked, to which she then lied about asking to take them back. The food in its self was less than average. The manager refused to give me a receipt for my card transaction, saying that no one ever asks for a receipt for contactless and he's never been offered one. He stated I was being aggressive over asking for something no one ever offers or gives. I find that strange that most other places always do. My mum got me and my hubby a meal here on a travel zoo voucher for Xmas. When I went to the website and saw it was a dog friendly pub we decided to make a night of it so we could have a few drinks. The welcome was lovely and the room was so cute, spotlessly clean with plenty of pure white fresh towels. We had a table reserved in the bar by the open fire. No phone signal and wifi was down but it was bliss just to sit and chat the night away. Our two course meal was stunning! And breakfast the next day was delicious! I'd definitely come back here.

I was really disappointed in this inn. Was in a village with nothing round about it. The room had spiders webs , towels were not changed just hung up to dry. Hogmanay celebrations were non existent , crisps or nuts on tables would have been suffice. Owners wondered why pub was quiet at 12 mn. Maybe cause no effort was made. Breakfast was cold but on a positive note evening meal was very good. Couldn't stay second night due to family illness but wasn't disappointed leaving early. No rose wine available after first bottle !!! Sorry but won't return

This was our friends local so an easy walk and stagger back! I had steak and ale pie, there was plenty of it but it was a little salty. Landlord (Ian) and staff were friendly, the waitress was our friends neighbour!Stayed on for the quiz and chatted with the locals, nice to see well behaved dogs allowed. An attractive pub in a pretty village, recommended.

My wife and I have just returned from a week's holiday in the small village of Snape and we enjoyed two great meals at this lovely pub. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Being dog-friendly that was a bonus too. We had a delicious Sunday roast and then having chatted to a local returned to take part in their pub quiz on the Tuesday evening. We had a meal before the quiz started and that was excellent too. We had a great evening, the quiz was just for fun, no entry fee and therefore prizes and we had a very enjoyable evening. Wish we had a local pub like this on our doorstep.. Will definitely return again.

Not eaten here for a long time but decided to have lunch out in the garden. We ate in what we thought was a smart arbour which happened to be the smoking area. Hah! Too good for smokers & perfect for a group of people. We ordered a variety of dishes between us including a child's portion of spaghetti bol. Very impressed with the quality of the food & definitely value for money. Great place for lunch & dog friendly too.

The food here was great. I as always played safe with the burger which was as good as any I've had, my wife had the duck which was perfectly cooked. I had to then try the chocolate sundae which was made with brymor ice cream and was beautiful.

Sudden decision to visit, asked for well done Roast Beef and this was presented well with fresh Yorkshire Puddings and 'proper' roast potatoes. Had not checked what the seasonal vegetable were as all three were on my 'not liked' list, so left.Service was friendly and surroundings nice, however, one course lunch was £9.75 whilst in adjacent town a three course was £7.95!Would we go again? Possibly but would check on the vegetables before ordering.

The pub was lovely but the food disappointing. I had salmon and it was presented on a bed of undercooked beans with some tiny tomatoes and a few very small roast potatoes. Friends had pork chops that were fatty and the meat tough. Not very friendly staff. Would not go back.

This is a charming a very tastefully decorated pub with rooms. The accommodation is beautifully decorated and situated in a separate building behind the pub through a lovely beer garden. The bar was intimate and very welcoming and the breakfast was excellent. The village is quiet but picturesque and a short drive or taxi to the local town of Masham. This was great value for money and I would highly recommend it.

My husband and I spent two nights at this warm and comfortable village pub. The room was small, but well equipped and very quiet and we enjoyed great hospitality from the hard working owners. Evening meals in the pub restaurant were excellent and of a very high quality with the menu changing every day. Breakfasts were cooked to order and substantial. The staff all focussed on making sure we enjoyed our stay and this was a good value short break in a very attractive village surrounded by glorious North Yorkshire countryside.

I've stayed here for a long weekend in February. The pub was warm, the welcome friendly and the room adequate. The food was excellent. Snake is a good place from which to see parts of the Yorkshire Dales, visit Fountains Abbey, and Ripon and Harrigate. It is a lovely unspoilt village

The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. Both menus are varied enough for a stay at the inn, and the selection is well suited to three courses or a sandwich, even vegetarians are catered for. We ate dinner three times and lunch once, each meal was excellently cooked and presented.

Made to feel very welcome by Ian and Lisa We stayed just 1 night but would have liked to stay longer. The food was amazing and the chef John had only been there 1 week but he made fabulous food. I had fish pie which was deconstructed, 3 types of fish and separate mash but it was the best I've ever had. The room and bathroom were wonderful and the bed so comfy and the duvet was just like our own. Will be back no problem. Thanks guys x

Stayed for three nights while at a festival, stunning little hotel, beautiful surroundings, run by a friendly family who made us feel at home, couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are just gorgeous and absolutely spotless. The food here was home cooked, reasonably priced, the breakfast was perfect for those either wanting a good fry up after a hard night out, or those wanting a full belly for the day ahead. This little hotel is set in the beautiful countryside and the gardens are a pleasure to sit in. Will definitely return

There is a fairly standard looking pub menu, but with the additional provision of a number of interesting specials. Even the dishes from the main menu come with a finesse, good quality ingredients and a genuine consideration of taste. Service was quick and efficient. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful and the pub is an interesting building which has been refurbished to a high standard with cluttering it up or losing the original character. Sadly they serve the bland and sweet Ringwoods Bitter, but there is a draft alternative beer and I'm sure that, as the landlord says, therer are some people who actually like Ringwood's beers ! Dogs are welcomed.

We stayed on the camp site behind the pub for 3 nights in our caravan. It's a bit tight to get in but definitely manageable. The hosts and staff are extremely friendly. The pub has good beer and great food. On our last night we had the filet steak - absolutely gorgeous and cooked to perfection! The village is lovely and is a great base to explore the surrounding countryside.

We were warmly welcomed and perused the menu whilst we had a drink. Our starters were chicken gougons - my husband said they were the best he had ever tasted - and king prawns. I didn't expect them to be in their shells, but a finger bowl was provided and they were delicious. we both had the steak and ale pie for mains - be prepared to be amazed. Wonderful ! Couldn't mange a sweet. The only down side is that we were so full, we felt unable to eat there the next night ! (Closed on Mondays )

Snape near Bedale - a pretty little village not far from Bedale & Masham. The Castle Arms Inn has a lovely terrace/beer garden which we used each evening. A few doors away was a 'foodie's paradise' delicatessen store which we visited on the day we left for local delicacies. We also visited Snape Chapel which we found interesting, Ripon Market & had a journey on the old railway from Bedale to Leyburn.

We were staying with friends at the pub for two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. The menu was very interesting with a choice of more unusual dishes than in the average pub. Two of us had herb crusted salmon where the herbs were so thick they overpowered the salmon and had to be scraped off to make it palatable. We mentioned this to the waitress but there was no feed back. The second night I had a below average lasagne, very basic with little meat. The other three meals ranging from a salad to a fillet steak were o.k. but nothing special. Sadly a bit disappointing. The English breakfasts we had were exceptionally good with a great choice.

Owen hosted our wedding reception. Lovely family do (7 bridesmaids and 3 pageboys between 5 and 10) with an outside BBQ. Happy for us to put up a bouncy castle. Really relaxed feel. We put up gazebos in case it rained so we could cover an outside area to seat 48. We had a band inside later. Room to dance. Couldn’t have asked for more.
