Great news, the Castle is not only back to its old self, it’s even better. The new management and team are really good. The service, food and ambiance is lovely. With much improved food, clean, well lit and cozy fires takes you back to the traditional pub atmosphere. Excellent for dining or just drinking alone or meeting friends you are always welcomed by the team.

Well from reading everyones review from 2024 mine is no better, my wife booked for my birthday on the 29th of September, we where meet with a lovely gentleman who was behind the bar served us drinks and we were lead to our table, my wife ordered the roast chicken and I the beef burger, the burger was raw, not pink but raw, so my wife continued to eat her dinner whiles I had a 20 min wait to have my food rectified, we brought this to the attention of the manager to whom rectified the matter, so no issue there, we decided to order dessert, to which only myself was given a menu, they must have not seen my wife sitting across from me, OK still forgiven, so I ordered the sticky toffee pudding and my wife a cappuccino, now the coffee arrives and when I tell you the working mans cafe producers better, that was the final straw, now let me just state I paid my bill in full, at no stage did we receive any apology from the so called manager (what a laugh he couldn't run a bath never mind a pub restaurant 🤣) I will be speaking to the fullers brand as there name is protrade all over this pub,

The Castle has been my local since 1998 - alarming decline in the quality of food since I last ate here in 2023. The pub always used to be full but in my last 2 or 3 casual visits has been virtually empty - great if you want a table but not a good sign if considering the mediocre food offerings. Visited the garden for a brief drink one hot summer afternoon in August 2024 and so many of the tables had not been cleared of meal plates, cutlery, glasses - flies everywhere. The website claims that tonight (Weds) is 'Steak Night' - the closest thing to steak on offer is 'Pressed (cajoled?) Beef Ribs' - which to my companion resembled a sort of meat loaf in gravy. I took the safe option of haddock and chips (which tasted overcooked) with 'pea puree' which had a sort of crust that suggested it had been hanging around a bit. This evening, I was not the only customer disappointed to find the outdated website is misleading. In fairness, two of my other companions enjoyed the cheesecake and strawberry crumble desserts. But sadly, the whole place now feels tired and unloved, staffed by people who appear as if they'd rather be anywhere else.

Really lovely staff and place. Outside tables were wobbly despite putting much tissue and things under the legs to stabilise so drinks didn't spill, a customer advised not to sit and a table originally chosen however he said not to go there as his beer had been knocked over, however the next table my friend and I chose was ALSO wobbly. Apart from having to keep a super stable eye and hand on glasses, everything else was superb. Super cute place, love it.

Second time visiting/dining at this establishment. We sat outdoors which has a lovely atmosphere (doesn't really feel like you're outdoors). We had spiced cauliflower 😋 and scotch egg for starters, followed by seafood linguine and fish and chips. I would have given 4 stars however there was a big birthday group with music which was a bit loud and not at all to our taste.

This is such a lovely pub in a lovely setting but unfortunately the food lets it down massively. It sounds like there has been a change of management and that is very evident in the standard of food. Steak was not cooked well with wilted salad and the plate swimming with liquid from the mushroom. The steak, that looked beige in colour, seemed to have been boiled rather than a flame grilled fresh cut of meat. Chips were soggy with a small amount of unmelted cheese on top. This meal was priced at nearly £30 and was not worth that. One of the staff members did kindly take the food back and remove from the bill. Cod with Chorizo was badly presented with a plate full of sauce. The dauphinois potato had been reheated and not piping hot. Again, another highly priced dish that didn’t meet the standards expected. Unfortunately we will not be returning here based on this experience even though we had positive experiences before the change in ownership.

The place has a nice ambiance, but the dining room was dimly lit, making it difficult to read the menu. It can also get quite loud when it’s busy. The staff were friendly, though they didn’t follow my request to serve the mushrooms on a separate plate, which was disappointing. Unfortunately, I didn’t take pictures of the dishes. Additionally, the menu on the website was inaccurate as they offered different dishes when we visited, which was inconvenient since I like to check my options beforehand. Despite these issues, overall, it was a great experience.

A really lovely old fashioned gem of a pub. So many pubs seem to have been turned into restaurants since Covid but The Castle remains a beautiful, traditional drinking tavern. A super, maze of a pub, The Castle on Crown Street in Harrow is a 'must visit' to stick on the list. There is a central bar serving the two front rooms, separated by a privacy door, mind your head! There is a clock room, with clocks. A dining room, with dining tables and diners, all going well. A Fuller's pub so familiar brews for the real ale drinkers and a good variety of ked beers for the rest of us. Great friendly service. Lovely cold beer what more do you need, make an excuse and visit!

Having heard good things about the veggie roast we booked here earlier in the week. The menu online indicated the veggie option to be a beetroot parcel/wellington. On arrival we noticed the menu had changed to a nut roast. Had we known we would never have booked as a nut roast is never good. We thought it would be rude to not dine as we’d reserved a table so took a chance on the nut roast (there was no other option for us on the rest of the menu either). Unfortunately it was bland and stodgy and we didn’t even get a Yorkshire pudding. The side of cauliflower cheese was very good at least. We tried the sticky toffee pudding which had a strange texture and very dense. The staff were friendly and it’s a nice pub but extremely disappointed in the food. Weirdly the menu online is now showing the veg roast option as a cauliflower steak so again customers might be fooled coming in and seeing a nut roast.

The staff was very disinterested and it seemed like they only started working there that day. They gave us a menu with Five Bells as a heading, not The Castle. I asked the girl if it was the same and she had to go ask and then tell us, YES, it’s the same ?! Weird. The guy behind the bar was more interested in dealing with his protein shake than in dealing with us. It all seemed an inconvenience to come to our table to take an order. The food was expensive at £17,50 for a simple burger, the cheapest main on the menu and £35 for a bottle of wine. The music was a newish addition. And I remember the castle almost proudly not having any music. Been coming here over 20 years. Not rushing back.

Firstly, we loved the Castle. I understand Fullers no longer own it and it’s now privately owned, so i am sad to say. I totally agree with all the reviews below regarding this week’s Sunday roast. It used to be amazing, but sadly it has changed. My gluten free version was 2 slices of beef, 3 roast potatoes. 1 carrot slither, 1 parsnip slither and a tablespoon of cabbage - it was so mean -for £21 and a 45 minute wait. It should have been free for that. The staff were lovely, and trying their best to accommodate, but the food was shockingly expensive with no diary alternatives and no dessert alternative. I hope they manage to get it together, but I won’t be paying those prices for half a plate of food.

I like be this place, have been coming for years, and previously scored it a 5. Today however a very different place with long waits for food (despite not being as busy as usual) and well below typical standard quality of food. I would normally not rate a place down on a single occasion - anyone can have a bad day - however speaking to a number of people, I understand the castle has been going down hill for some time since it departed from fullers I can only hope that it is not too long before it sorts itself out again. Good luck.

Our Sunday lunch at the Castle today was disappointing enough to prompt me to write a review - there has been a marked deterioration from what it used to be like. The roast dinners were pedestrian, like pub food from 30 years ago and the service, although friendly, was very slow and inattentive. Vegetarian choice has always been a bit limited, but the veg options today were grim.

Our first visit under the new management. Food served was not as described on menu- this was replaced by another dish ..also not as described on the menu! Salt & pepper containers dirty. Table wasn't clean when we sat down. By chance we discovered that the wrong menu was set out on our pre booked table, luckily our neighbours alerted us. Cauli cheese was tasteless. They had no alternative to dairy milk on site and no intention to supply soya, oat or almond milk. By our 3rd complaint one would expect the manager to come speak to us, but each time it was left to our young waitress to deal with the issues that arose. We won't be back. There are better ways to spend your money.

(£70 for 3 people.) My friend's curry cauliflower starter tasted awful, cauliflower roasted in too much dry curry powder and not a fritter as described on the menu. Waitress spoke to 'the kitchen', who agreed, and bought out a replacement arancini ball starter. Well.. they had no mushroom, wild or otherwise, inside. This also went back to the kitchen and my friend was then offered a free dessert. They then brought out one arancini ball (original dish had 2) for her which had a smidgeon of mushroom visible inside. My cauliflower cheese had no cheese discernable and tasted bland bland bland. The table wasn't super clean when we arrived and I sent back the pepper shaker to be cleaned as it was visibly dirty. It never came back to the table. The wrong menu had also been placed on our pre-booked table and luckily or neighbours heard us discussing the menu and wondered why their menu was not the same as ours! They no longer stock any alternative to dairy milk for tea or coffee, which is unusual these days, first time I've come across this in years. Food is expensive, our waitress was lovely, but should not have to deal with so many complaints from one table...the manager should have come out to see us. I have worked many years in hospitality and never came across such absent uncaring 'management'. This is the last time we will visit and I will be telling all my local friends. Bring back the old Castle with good food and good beer and one who values their customers.

It is fitting that I watched Dune 2 this week because the burger here was drier than the sands of Arrakis. This happened the first time I was here and I thought it could be a fluke. This second time I tried to drop them a hint by asking for a medium-rare burger - even though I know that's not really a thing in the UK. No such luck. And the food took forever - about 40 minutes after ordering. Surely they were torching my burger for a solid 40 minutes to make sure it was cooked to perfection. And they didn't have any high chairs for my 2 year old. And there was a hair in my daughter's chips. Really disappointing on so many different levels. To be fair to them, it was a nice atmosphere, the staff were friendly and no complaints about the rest of the food from my family.

We decided to go for a Sunday roast and so thought we'd try The Castle, never being there before. We booked and took our fur baby with. The staff were friendly however they took over an hour to bring us our roasts, only after enquiring with the waitress who took our order. She, too, was surprised and went to check. We ordered one starter to share, ox cheek croquettes, instead brought us Arrancini, which was a vegetarian rice ball. Our drinks took a long time to come as well, which was a pint of beer and a glass of red wine. When our food finally arrived, the beef roast was still raw. Everything was bland and boring. The couple that came well after us was served before us. The waitress apologised and offered us a free drink only. Didn't take the beef roast off the bill, nothing.. Definitely won't be visiting The Castle again, which is a shame as it was a nice atmosphere but absolutely terrible food and service.

Sunday lunch today was disappointing. I have eaten here often over the last few years and today’s meal was the worst . We waited for a while for food to arrive and were given some complimentary bread and oil which was very dry. My initial choice had run out so I went for fish and chips . The peas were dry , batter on the fish was greasy and there was not much fish. My 2 friends both ordered from the vegan menu . The burger was disappointing - the best part was the mushroom and the roasted aubergine was ok but the filo pastry was soggy . Staff were pleasant and gave us a discount on the food but didn’t really know how to deal with complaints . Went to pay and was told they don’t accept cash , no signs to advertise this.

I am an experienced chef with Micheline stars experience. We didn't have much food, just a pint and tea. Ordered some bread and garlic butter and olives along. Even though it was not busy, the bread and butter were so delayed, I believe they forgot about it. The front of house staff were very distracted and I had to ask for cutlery, for napkins, and in the end we were asked how long are we going to stay because they needed to sit another group in the restaurant. So definitely inexperienced FOH staff. Will be going back when the weather gets better and we hope to have some nice food in the garden pergola terrace.

Generally The Castle has been the go to pub for years with it’s good quality of food and atmosphere after not going for some months due to a limited menu we were so excited to see a new one posted on there website. Having ordered the french onion soup which was rather tasteless and very average also my other party member thought her bubble and squeak had been bought in. Due to a large partly they had ran out of the chicken and leek mushroom pie, so my other guest stuck with the burger which was fine, I ordered the Pan roasted Whole plaice with Caper butter sauce, hand- cut chips, buttered greens which I can only describe again as a tasteless disappointment due to it lack of flavours as I could not detect any caper sauce and the french beans just seemed to be boiled along with bought in chips for £22.95 totally over priced and not acceptable. A new addition is background music at the Castle whether it was a bad playlist but having cheesy tunes in the background was painful and very off putting I know music is down to peoples personal taste, but you need to get a balance, still hungry and I thought you can’t go wrong with cheese and biscuits yep they did not have any, coffee was a no no due to the lack of having no machine 🤷🏽♀️ All in all memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Have been visiting the Castle for many years and in all previous visits, the experience has been most enjoyable. However, have not visited the Castle for some time and I looked forward to a return visit especially since on-line menu looked so good. Unfortunately my return visit during lunchtime was hugely disappointing. The actual menu was not the same as that on line and with what was on there, some items were not available which did not omen well for people arriving for evening meals to have run out so early. Also, there did not seem to be any 'specials' board which in the past has always had some interesting offerings. What we did have was quite bland and seemed more akin to boil-in-the-bag food which was so unusual because in the past, the food has been exemplary. A final disappointment was that the coffee machine was not working and there did not even seem to have any instant! However, by far the worst thing was the introduction of musak. This I just cannot understand. One goes to a pub to eat and drink and not to listen to canned music. If I wanted such music, I would opt to go up and down in a lift. All in all, this was a most unfortunate experience and definitely not up to their usual standards

Harrow Hill has three treasures: beautiful St Marys Church (A.D. 1094), Harrow School and the castle pub. A group of us met up here on a Thursday evening for drinks and dinner. We had a marvellous evening – the staff were friendly, the pints are excellent ( I particularly relished the ESB) and the food was delicious. I recommend the rump of lamb which was melt in the mouth and sent my compliments to the chef. Desserts were excellent: we enjoyed sticky, toffee pudding and Eton mess. My companions enjoyed very good fish and chips and one thing I’m definitely going to try next time is the venison scotch egg with celeriac roulade. Overall, we had a most convivial evening and will definitely be coming back soon.

This has always been our go to local for a good quality Friday evening meal. We thought it odd a month ago when there was not much available from the menu. We were told the tenancy would be changing. One month on, the tenancy has changed to Countrywide pubs and food quality is now poor. Regular fish and chips ordered, the fish is now definitely frozen, no mushy peas, a side of regular frozen peas. Fullers beers are still being served but no quality pies, mrs Owton sausages or laverstock farm ice cream. The food quality no better than Greene King. I wont be back to eat until they buck their ideas up and stop taking us for mugs. Ate there on Saturday night in the Garden: 1.The service was stunningly slow, disinterested and borderline rude. We arived at 7:45 - by 8:15 we finally managed to get someone to take an order. Food started to arrive at 8:40 at which point the bored staff told us we'd have to leave the garden by 9. last food arrived at 8:45. Nice relaxed environment it was not. 2. The food we ordered was poor. No other way to put it. 2 dishes we ordered were no longer available. The burger was pathetic, small and cold. (it arrived on a plate where half the plate was empty. no salad garnish etc - just some fries and a small cold burger). Not £17.50 worth The pork chop was supposed to come with pommes Anna, sliced potatoes with a garlic butter - instead came with a lumpy mash. No Veg at all. crackling was floppy not crackly. So a chop and some lumpy mash with a smear of Dijon mustard cost £21. Then we waited about 5 minutes Then the fish and chips arrived, was Ok, standard, and the Chicken Supreme was (i suspect) served in a mushroom sauce that was akin to a can of soup. Oh - and it wasn't Girolle sauce - not a girolle in sight. And - no veg at all. The only green vegetable over all 4 dishes were peas with the fish and chips. Beer is expensive of course - but £13.60 for 2 pints is a push. We were given another table in the pub after being hurridly ejected from the garden and were offered Dessert menus - which we agreed to. Only to be told that the kitchen was now closed so we couldnt have any. All in all - very poor. Expensive and poor. Buck Up!!

An absolutely charming looking pub with friendly staff and lots of outdoor space. A very pleasant surprise, tucked away from the main road. We didn't have any food this visit but will definitely return.

A great place to be after a long day at work, relaxing with your mates or a date with someone. Good food options including vegetarian! Great views of Harrow too.

I've been coming to the castle for a couple of years now and it never fails to disappoint. The food is always delicious, the drinks are great and the service is impeccable! Special thanks to Amy, Kadar and the manager Jesal.

Lovely pub in a beautiful part of London. Servers and bar staff seem friendly enough. I'd recommend for a drink but honestly the food is poor. Roasts, burger and starters were bland and overpriced. Tables next to us were equally, if not more disappointed. On the plus side, it's dog friendly, so so I'll take that!

A little room for improvement on the food, especially given the prices, but overall it's a solid local choice with friendly staff and a cosy atmosphere. Would come again.

Some good points, some not so good. We hadn't booked so the waitress was very helpful and got us a table upstairs. I am gluten intolerant so started using their QR code to notify the restaurant. At that point a larger party arrived and asked us to move, offering us a table downstairs. We took this but it meant the QR entry was no longer used. As a result my starter came with bread. I asked a waitress if I could have some gluten free bread but she never came back. I asked our original waitress and she returned with a less than ideal gluten free bun but I accepted it. However, when it came to the bill I only realised later they charged me £2.50 for the privelege. How did that make me feel???? My main course was very tasty, a vegetarian curry, my family chose a burger and steak, both good. They ran out of the dessert my wife wanted and the cheesecake my son had was stodgy. So overall a mixed bag, pleasant staff but the food experience was not great.

Great child friendly pub, perfect for dining when it's sunny. Food was really good. Would recommend although they didn't seem to have quite enough staff on for the demand.

I have had bad food in the past... but this had to be the worst food I've had ever. Wasted my £21 for a Sunday roast... to think I could have gotten a mv meal which would have costed me less and tasted way better. How did they get 4+ stars

Very dog friendly pub with the best Sunday roast and extremely friendly staff (10 months ago). Revisited this pub today. We sat on the terrace this time. The plates of food looked bigger than last time. I had the best roast beef - 3 large slices of tender beef. The apple sauce went well with roast pork. Although fish and chips was a bit pricey, the fish tasted very good even without tartar sauce.

Friendly staff, dog friendly. The Victorian/Edwardian wood panelling has hardly changed since I used to have lunch here in the 1970's. Food was really good, service excellent. Will be back.

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon on the outdoor terrace. The Sunday roast was incredibly generous in portion , beautifully presented and fabulously tender. Service was friendly and efficient. A lovely family, friendly location.

As a pub The Castle is great if you just want a drink, however whilst food has previously been very good, it is now overpriced with small portions and staff are inexperienced and inattentive.

Usually exceptional in every way, we retuned today after our last visit for Mothers Day to find the roasts disappointingly bland, with items missed served with poor quality beef laden with gristle and gravy that ranked lower than the leading instant brand. A real 360 degree change on what I’ve come to know as their norms. Staff, as always, remain very kind and passionate but learning that kitchen staff have changed hands does leave a significant shadow that I’m sure will hang over many future diners heads. Buyer beware that your traditional Sunday roast may never be the same.

A really nice old pub in the old Harrow on the Hill with a fantastic beer garden, good service and a great rotating line up of beers available. Recommended when visiting Harrow on the Hill.

Uninterested barman, food was lukewarm, had to get a staff member attention to send it back, customers on table behind us left nearly all of their food, no atmosphere, would not bother going back,

We live nearby and pop in occasionally for cream tea on special occasions. It's always been somewhere between good and great for food and service. But this last trip was a bit like visiting Fawlty Towers. We wandered around trying to find someone, anyone, that might work there. Eventually someone gestured in the vague direction of a cold room with stark, uncovered wooden tables. Eventually, about 15 minutes after we sat down, someone offered us both a menu. About 15 minutes later we asked for water... this request was satisfied eventually. So about 30 minutes in and we had water. We tried to order but at that point we realised that we had different menus. So these menus were whisked away and we had only our water to entertain us... I'll stop there but it wasn't great. Borderline awful. It's gone from delicious treats and great service in a beautiful tea room to water in a cupboard. Good luck.

Had lunch yesterday. Cold toasties, cold chips, the coffee machine was filthy. They are the dirtiest toilets I’ve ever been in. The whole pub was dirty. Avoid at all costs. Never going back.
