THE YE OLDE GITS SOCIETY VISITED ANOTHER OLD FAVOURITE PUB OF OURS. NICE VIEWS COMFY AND LIGHT BAR AND RESTAURANT AREA. WELCOMING STAFF GREAT SERVICE, FOOD, BEER AND SERVICE. ON WEDNESDAYS THERE IS A CHEAPER MENU NAMED WONKY WEDNESDAY. THUS US OAP FOLK OFTEN CHOOSE THE FOOD OFF THAT ONE. BUT A NICE VARIED MAIN MENU FROM SANDWICHES, AND OTHER TASTY TREAT. LOVEY PUDDINGS ALSO. . NICE GARDEN AREA TO FINISH IT OFF TOO. A MUST VISIT.

It has a beautiful garden to sit in and have a relaxing drink. Friendly staff.

A decent pub with good, standard pub grub. The beer works too. The Castle is on the Lower Road, not far from Bysing Woods and the Gunpowder Mills (also a short stroll to the water). The garden seems to have been redone well. Decor is part pub, part cafe.

We were made very welcome, staff very polite and friendly, they do basic pub grub, witch is cooked, and prepared to very good standard, and they do small plates as well as normal size meals.

Quiz night. A happy atmosphere, fun quiz and great table service. Pub was light, airy and beautifully clean.

We regularly use The Castle for our Sunday Lunch treat. Quite simply you are assured a warm welcome, fantastic service and a top quality Sunday roast. We took our friends here today and they were very impressed both with the excellent dishes and at a reasonable price. We would not hesitate to recommend.

Always head for The Castle after getting stocked up at Macknades in Faversham. Unfortunately the only real ale available on this visit was that awfully bland Doombar rubbish from Cornwall instead of one of the excellent local ales. Never mind, Guinness is always an excellent substitute.... Strangely, the pint of Guinness at £5.90 was more expensive than a large wine at £5.80..... The food... basic without going over the top. It's good and very well priced for what it is.... don't knock it. Keep it up! Would be nice if you actually took the trouble to reply to some of your reviews seeing as you ask us to "like" you on Facebook and Trip Advisor......

Super Sunday lunch today, just what we needed. Staff are lovely, and it's a great pub.

Homely and welcoming little gem inside the village of Oare, surrounded by beautiful country scenery. Varied menu serving home cooked delightful and tasty dishes. Staff, manager and locals made us very welcome. Clean and pleasant surroundings and tables well spaced out, so perfect for having that privacy and space when spending valuable time catching up with friends and family. Quiz nights also on, making it a great all round village pub. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed… the roasts are delicious with generous portions.

We had such a chilled time last week at The Castle in Oare. Steph is so welcoming and friendly! Background music was great, lunch was amazing and we picked the best place to sit in the shade. Blissful, definitely didn't feel like a Tuesday and we will definitely be back for more Ham, Egg and Chips 🌞 Be back for a roast dinner and it's was delicious! Really lovely and friendly staff! We will definitely be back again

Had a Christmas dinner here and it was absolutely delicious! I'm a really fussy eater (I'll eat pretty much anything but it had to be cooked right) and this was pretty much perfect! All three courses were great! Service was good, friendly and fast. My only little gripe was it was served in dishes to help yourself, something I detest but other than that 10 out of 10!

wonderful sunday lunch 16.12.23 Have just been for a soggy walk and come in for lunch. Had ham eggs and chip's, my friend had cottage pie, both were delicious and plentiful. tried the apple crumble cooked to perfection. Have been several times since first reveue, will continue to pop in after walks on the marshes.

What a lovely pub. Locals all very friendly, bar staff very helpful and roast dinner fantastic. Even the dogs had a treat or two. For sure we will be dropping in when we are down that way again.

We held our friends wake here, staff were very nice, friendly and polite, they did a buffet which was very well presented and food was lovely, hope to revisit in the near future for a meal

Original plan was to go a walk and have a spot of lunch but the usual messing around meant it was straight to pub for lunch. Bar was friendly with locals and a lovely black retriever called Tilly. Food was unpretentious, filling and tasty - just what we wanted. I could only have a half of the Masterbrew sadly but it was great. Recommended.

This pub is a little gem food was lovely great value for money, drinks were great staff were excellent made you feel at home. Cant wait to go back.

I had the chilli con carne with sour cream. It was delicious. Loved the atmosphere and the area and restrooms were clean and tidy.

What a nice pub, dog friendly and great great food. Massive portions to boot. Great staff and what a welcome. A really nice place to visit.

Hubby had beer which was very good but I wanted a medium Pinot Grigio. A glass of wine arrived but it had froth on the top. It tasted horribly sweet and was clearly not. Pinot G. Staff member said it was but offered up Sauvignon Blanc. This tasted very similar to the alleged PG but I drank half of it and tipped the rest on the grass. Hubby had to pay for BOTH glasses of whatever was in my two glasses. Apparently the wine comes from the supermarket. We didn’t order food and left quickly.

THE SERVICE WAS FRIENDLY AND OUR LUNCH WAS EXCELLENT. WE CAN RECCOMEND THIS PUB TO ALL GUESTS. Parking was easy and the treatment of disabled customers was thoughtful and considerate.

We had a lovely Sunday roast last weekend, very friendly atmosphere and great food.

Very tasty and imaginative roast lunch. Lovely lawn and sheltered gardens with attractive and superb display of alstromeria. Small pleasant glassed garden dining room. Attentive pleasant staff. Nearby area of Oare is enjoyable for walks beside the boating creek. Met the lady chef who is a great asset to the pub. Outside dining patio in garden partially covered. Not too busy when we visited. Good value too which was a pleasant surprise. They have a grassed playing area for a rare local Kent game ...Bat and Trap.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. Pub was deserted at 12.30 which should have rung alarm bells. Staff very friendly and helpful and a good selection of beers. Food was another thing unfortunately. Each roast was a couple of very thin slices of chosen meat, covered with admittedly very nice gravy. A small bowl with enough overcooked roast potatoes for 3 small pieces each. A Yorkshire pudding each which was ok. A mixed veg bowl with carrots, peas, swede and cabbage - which sounds great except there was the equivalent of a portion of each to go around 4 of us. A portion of ratatouille which again was meant for 4 but was barely enough for one, when I questioned the potion was told it was for 4! A portion of cheesy leeks looked great but was really only enough for two. In summary we were left very disappointed and still hungry and ended up ordering desserts which were not bad. After reading all the positive reviews we expected far better than what was served and unfortunately would be unlikely to return for food again.

Great Sunday lunch with plenty of food at a great price. Large group of us who all enjoyed the food and the service. We will definitely be back. If it was up to me, we would come back every fortnight.

Fantastic Sunday roast and Scampi and Chips. Good portions, the food was tasty and the kitchen was fast. The wait staff were friendly as well as the other customers. They are dogs friendly. They are also close to several good walking paths. All of this at a very reasonable price, a great find!

Called in when passing, we got a lovely welcome when we walked in, and the food we ordered was delicious and of large portions... definitely call again in the future

A classic country pub offering superb food in a beautiful garden environment. Sunday roast was top notch with hot plates and home cooked prepared to perfection. A choice of four meats reasonably priced all served with excellent service. Hard to find better in Faversham. Well done to Steph the chef!

Barmaid gave a lovely welcome as we came in after our walk. Had a lunchtime snack pannini and bagutte, nicely served with a bit if salad. Enjoyed our lesuirely lunch in the pretty maintained garden. A great stop after a walk.

Nice little local oasis. Lunch was simple pub food but wholesome.. The lady serving us was very organised and friendly. The garden was pleasant and well maintained. The entertainment was a local Bat and Trap competition game. All in all a pleasant lunch.

Having had a bad experience with poor service at the Three Mariners we decided to give the Castle a try. So glad we did beautiful garden first rate service, our contact details were asked for, excellent pint of Doombar Bitter and my wife really enjoyed her glass of wine. Think this will now be our first choice pub when visiting Oare.

Visited for Sunday lunch after 2 creeks walk. A lovely friendly welcome. Everyone following strict masks, hand sanitisation and felt very safe/clean. Food was glorious and lots of it. Will definitely be back.

We visited today for a roast lunch.We had roast chicken. The whole meal was amazingly good. For me a roast is comfort food and I like it to be how my mum used to make ours at home. This ticked all of the boxes.I don't go much on some venues wierd modern twist on a roast dinner.The building is crisp and clean.The staff are very friendly and efficient.Well worth a visit.

After riding 35 miles on a broken bike we thought we would stop in for a pint!We were not disappointed... Immediately when we sat down the lovely barlady came out and offered us drinks, the delicious chips we ordered arrived in minutes and we had a nice chat with the owner. Will definitely be returning!

A fantastic pub. Friendly and helpful staff, great food and well priced. A safe place to visit due to the changes they have made during the coronavirus pandemic. There is a nice beer garden with a large gazebo. Hope to return here sometime soon.

Social distancing was maintained very well with cleaning the area once the customer had left. Staff very friendly & polite & lovely, tasty food. Had a pleasant experience.

We're from Gloucester and always stop in here when visiting family in nearby Stockbury. Brilliant lunch Always friendly and attentive. The gardens looking lovely. Now the important bit. These guys have the Covid-19 issues squared off. We felt very safe during our visit. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We had lunch there on their first day of “eat out to help out”. Friendly safe service in the garden. Inside the pub seemed to be closed. Generous portions. Nice location. Dog friendly too.

We visited The Castle on a hot Saturday afternoon after a dog walk along the Creek and sat in the garden. We were welcomed by lovely friendly staff as were our rather noisy dogs. We checked in using the QR code which was very straightforward. The garden was immaculate and there was hand sanitizer available and the tables which are very well distanced were constantly being wiped down. We initially had a drink to recover from a hot walk but then ordered a couple of paninis to keep us going and these were great. I popped inside to use the toilet and it looked lovely and the loos were spotless. It was quiet when we arrived mid afternoon but got alot busier while we were there.It was really reassuring to see a pub taking its Covid precautions so seriously. We also had the Bat and Trap game which is popular in Kent and played at the pub explained to us! We will definitely be returning to The Castle.

Pub has had a refurbishment since I last visited,and for the better.Good seating inside and out with large beer garden to rear.Lovely to sit outside on a warm autumnal day and sample the Doombar ale.Quiet location in this village on the edge of the Oare marshes,with good walking nearby at the nature reserve on the banks of the swale estuary.Ideal stopover for walkers and birdwatchers alike.Book early for any Sunday meal plans though,as it's very popular locally

Very friendly, one of those places where they just can't do enough for you. They serve food quality simple lunch but not evening meals. Bat and Trap is fascinating so check when there's a match.

Lovely Sunday roast, choice of lamb, chicken, pork or beef, you can have two or three meats if you want it. Vegetables cooked to perfection and roast potatoes nice and crisp. Good range of puddings, I would recommend the chocolate orange gateaux. Good prices and comfortable setting.staff friendly and polite. Highly recommend

Didn't like food and the place looks very old and weird

It's been turned into a smart, modern venue. Very pleasant staff. My one concern was the rather unimaginative menu with no vegetarian options apart from a jacket potato with cheese or beans. Pub grub but not even fish and chips. I asked about a veggie option and was told it had to be specially ordered. In this day and age and the increasing popularity of meat-free and even vegan diets, I'm surprised that there's nothing on the menu. My grandson had sausage, mash and beans and loved it! But I wouldn't go back simply because of the menu.
