We had such a chilled time last week at The Castle in Oare. Steph is so welcoming and friendly! Background music was great, lunch was amazing and we picked the best place to sit in the shade. Blissful, definitely didn't feel like a Tuesday and we will definitely be back for more Ham, Egg and Chips 🌞 Be back for a roast dinner and it's was delicious! Really lovely and friendly staff! We will definitely be back again

We visited The Castle on a hot Saturday afternoon after a dog walk along the Creek and sat in the garden. We were welcomed by lovely friendly staff as were our rather noisy dogs. We checked in using the QR code which was very straightforward. The garden was immaculate and there was hand sanitizer available and the tables which are very well distanced were constantly being wiped down. We initially had a drink to recover from a hot walk but then ordered a couple of paninis to keep us going and these were great. I popped inside to use the toilet and it looked lovely and the loos were spotless. It was quiet when we arrived mid afternoon but got alot busier while we were there. It was really reassuring to see a pub taking its Covid precautions so seriously. We also had the Bat and Trap game which is popular in Kent and played at the pub explained to us! We will definitely be returning to The Castle.

It's been turned into a smart, modern venue. Very pleasant staff. My one concern was the rather unimaginative menu with no vegetarian options apart from a jacket potato with cheese or beans. Pub grub but not even fish and chips. I asked about a veggie option and was told it had to be specially ordered. In this day and age and the increasing popularity of meat-free and even vegan diets, I'm surprised that there's nothing on the menu. My grandson had sausage, mash and beans and loved it! But I wouldn't go back simply because of the menu.

The waitress was lovely but the food wasn't great. We all had roast dinners. The meat was sparse and very finely sliced and it was cold. The veg was good. The roast potatoes were awful and rock hard. The Castle is under new management so booked in for Sunday lunch to taste the difference. The major refurbs are so refreshing. There’s now proper parking and a tidy garden space. No longer a dark, old fashioned pub with sticky carpets but a newly decorated , fresh space. Sunday lunch was excellent value and delicious, we ate the lot.Staff friendly and helpful and shared their vision for the castle. It’s a hub for socialising, walkers and eating. We wish you all the very best .

What a lovely Sunday dinner in a lovely pub! Perfectly cooked pork and crackling with large roast potatoes served with 2 yorkies and lashings of gravy! .... and the homemade food here is very good too! However,if you have been lucky enough to visit on a hot summer's day and intend going along by the creek footpath to the wetlands,DO NOT imbibe too heavily beforehand. When you reach the estuary spend a few moments in the Hide. At low tide, the distant sandbanks alongside Shell Bay on Sheppy are fully exposed & you may be able to count up to 8 seals basking in the sun.For the less energetic, park at the end of ferry road and view the waders or examine the shore line across the water.A good pair of Binoculars are imperative for this trip!

I stopped here with a group of 10 walkers. We had provisional booked lunch for 2.30. We arrived early at about 1.30. We sat in the garden to the rear of the pub. The only food available on a Sunday is Sunday roast, no other options, we suited us fine. I think from memory the choice was lamb, beef, pork and chicken. As we arrived early, we were informed that there was a possibility that lunch would be earlier. Between us we ordered lamb and pork. By 2pm we were eating. The plates arrived with lots of meat, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. We had separate gravy too. A huge bowl of roast potatoes, cheesy leeks and vegetables - green beans, peas, carrots, mashed swede and brocoli. A fantastic meal, we actually couldn't get through all the veg and potatoes, even with more men on the group. And the cost...... Just £9.75 per head. Fantastic food and value, highly recommended
