The Castell Mynach in Rhondda Cynon Taf

Went at for a late lunch today and the food was lovely and friendly staff. There was one problem we had to sit at the casual end as we didn't have a booking, but that was our fault.

Lovely atmosphere great food friendly staff. Also dog friendly. 👍🐩. I had the haddock and chips which was absolutely lovely. Made such a nice change to see haddock on a menu instead of cod, in my opinion much nicer fish. My wife had the sea bass and hasn't stopped telling everyone she spoke to how amazing it was. This was our 1st time here but it certainly won't be our last. We might even take our dog next time. Fantastic.

Terrible service, had one course in 2 hours. Gave up on dessert and asked for the bill, strangely they hadn’t removed my deposit from the total… seemed frustrated as I requested to be removed. Would avoid.

Starter was lovely, main was ok, desert was incredible. Service was very slow, we had three courses and were there for 3 hours!

This is such a lovely pub, with real warmth and friendly staff. Had dinner last night after dropping grandchildren back home. Place was really full but usherd to a free table quickly by Caitlin with a big smile . Food was great and Hannah made sure that we were well taken carred of. Will definately go back again, such a friendly welcoming environment

Came here for a family dinner, there were 13 of us in total and food came out promptly so we all got to eat together. Food and desert were delicious. I’d like to say a special thanks to Caitlin for her great service and being so friendly. She was on the ball with anything we needed, and was always checking in to make sure we were happy with the food and drinks. We as a family will all plan on returning. Great pub. Thanks to all.

Popped in for a dinner with the family, absolutely beautiful, had the trio and the lamb, and sticky toffee pudding for desert, staff were brilliant, food came out very quick, will definitely be back.

Just another pub, with pub meal, not my thing for a special occasion. We ordered some starters as well as mains, were asked if all should come together, not explained what was meant - rather annoying not reconfirming, but then not able to change that....

Perfect Sunday lunch! Thoroughly recommend the belly pork and don't forget some delicious cauliflower cheese to go with it. Oh! Also some pigs in blankets. Very tasty! Desserts: also awesome 👌 (banana choux pastry and the sticky toffee pudding with custard). The food was - as you can probably gather from all these exclamation marks - fantastic! The service was also excellent. It was very busy (popular place and understandably so) but even so we didn't have to wait long at all for our meals. All served hot and fresh. Thanks all.

Really lovely pub with attentive staff. Most enjoyed their food. However, aubergine gratin was underwhelming, with only a few slices of aubergine on top of a pepper and tomato pasta like sauce, a tiny amount of mozarella and no crumb/crust which was a shame. Luckily, there was some garlic bread to provide some texture. Hopefully the other veggie options are better!

What a terrible night for service. I know it was Friday & I know it was busy. Our 3 soups were cold & one was served in a chipped bowl, we all sent them back. The bread with the soup was bone dry & we needed to ask for butter. Mains were OK. Dessert took ages to arrive & a Peroni was brought in stead of a brownie honestly! There were very long waiting times in-between courses. There were 5 humans & 1 dog. It was meant to be a birthday meal, I was left bitterly disappointed last night. And to top it all off my foot slipped on the wooden floor & fell on 1 knee resulting in a bruise. We've decided to not come back again.

We go regularly and have always left well fed, happy and the service is great.

I come for food and drinks regularly, always a lovely pub and the staff are great. We had food there a couple of night ago and it was amazing, they were so welcoming with the dogs and the service was great. Olivia was serving us, she was friendly, rushed off her feet but always patient and smiling. She is great at her job and made the night so relaxed and chilled for us!

I ate here with my friends who live in the area and when I say I had some of the best food ever here, I mean it. My pie was perfect, the mixed drinks are superb, and the potatoes were incredible. I also had Eaton mess here for the first time, so it was quite an experience. I will have to stop in for a visit again the next time I’m in Wales.

As a family with gluten free needs it can sometimes be difficult eating out. Josh our server was extremely helpful going back and forth to the kitchen finding out what we could order and accomodating us without making us feel like we were a burden!

The food was lovely and great value. The setting and staff were also lovely

All the staff are great, very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is nicely laid out and easily accessible. Some of the dishes are a little expensive for what you get, but the ones I’ve had have been well cooked and nicely presented. The Panang curry is particularly good. The app has offers and the 50% off main dishes is particularly good.

Walking up to the venue it looked so welcoming. Inside had a cosy homey feel and was so well decorated. The menu had something for everyone. We were a large party and the staff were patient with us when taking our orders and even remembered who ordered what when bringing the food out. The food was so delicious, I cleared my plate which is not something I do often. Everyone at the table mentioned how good the food was and how they looked forward to a return visit to try more things on the menu. It was my first time there since 16 years ago and I was impressed how it has changed so much for the better. I will definitely look forward to returning. Thank you.

We went to the Castell Mynach for a Christmas meal on Christmas Eve, and had a lovely time with a great meal and drinks. The food was excellent, with plenty of vegan options. Great service too from the waiter, Ben, who was really attentive, helpful, and explained the food option well. Looking forward to visiting again soon

Excellent service from Hannah and Caitlyn. We always receive a warm welcome, lovely ambiance. We are never disappointed with the food, love the three for £12 bar snacks, good selection of drinks to choose from.

A lovely place for a family get together. The food was amazing, some of us chose from the festive menu while others went for dishes on the regular menu. Our servers Alison, Caitlen Nikki and barman Ben were very attentive and nothing was too much for them. Will definitely be returning and recommending to others.

Boxing day meal at Castel Mynach. Table was not set with crackers and serviettes. Glasses were not clean and not enough for our table of 8. Turkey meal was extremely salty. Constantly disturbed by staff using doorway next to our table. Service poor. Bill charged with service charge and no deposit being removed. If we hadn't noticed, they would not have refunded. Would not recommend. How many other deposits were not taken into consideration that day?

Poor customer service. The staff were dismissive, direct and they lacked professionalism. They were rushed, appeared not to care and lacked warmth. I won’t visit again.

I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at The Castell Mynach. The sirloin I ordered was cooked to perfection, with every bite being a delight. Everyone in my group seemed equally pleased with their meals, which speaks volumes about the quality and consistency of the food. To top it all off, the pudding was absolutely amazing—definitely one of the highlights of the evening. It was a wonderful dining experience overall.

I love this place. The staff friendly The place itself is cosy and clean.And they sell a decent wine. However, the last time we went, we had an early reservation, but they only had one of my three choices off the menu. And that applied to three of our party. That was a bit disappointing. Saying that, I would highly recommend this place. And a bonus, they are dog friendly. I would have given five stars, had they had what they were offering.......

Had a lovely impromptu Xmas lunch today, no booking and Lola and her team were so welcoming and the food was fantastic. Definitely be back, incredible hospitality and great atmosphere A++++++

Great food etc but prices on menu don't included vat so u get a bit of a shock when u have your bill.

Cerry our waitress was very polite and very helpful,there was a delay with our food order ,but they were very busy ,it was well worth the wait, Lola came over and explained and gave us a free dessert for waiting soo long.The Sunday roast we had was delicious and ample all piping hot the gravy was delicious and all the veg was fresh and the dessert we had was delicious.we will come again .And would recommend to friends and family.

Went here 23.11.2024 on the off chance. We live close by but haven’t been here for years as it wasn’t a good experience last time. I know it’s changed hands since I went there and I was really surprised. The starter baked Camembert was delicious and so were the two mains of haddock and spinach fish cakes and hunters chicken schnitzel. I can wholeheartedly recommend the Castell Mynach based on this visit and I’ll be back soon to try the rest of the menu. Thanks to all the staff.

Stopped by for a late lunch today. Fantastic food and service with superb waiting staff especially Emily, Lola & Ben.

We booked on a Sunday, instead of me cooking Sunday dinner we went out! We ordered our Sunday roasts, beef, it was then that I overheard the couple sat opposite us mention the roast potatoes were hard. I hoped this was just a one off. Unfortunately this was not the case, our roast potatoes were hard too. So much so that we put them in our doggy bag for just that our dog!! The beef was nice but nothing special, and just two slices. The vegetables were lovely. All In all we were slightly disappointed. It was very busy at lunchtime so maybe the kitchen was under a bit of pressure. We did have trouble trying to find a parking space too

Although we live quite local the castell mynach is somewhere we haven’t visited in many years… decided to try it today (after visiting the local hospital nearby),for an impromptu lunch date. Large car park was quite full and we hadn’t booked .. so weren’t sure we’d get a table…but on entering we were immediately greet by the lovely Lola who assured us it wasn’t a problem and offered us a table … The menu was very varied and reasonably priced.Monday-Thursday they offer a 2course lunch for £16.95 a head,which we thought was excellent value (will come back for that very soon!!) I had the indulgent beef lasagne served with side salad and garlic bread and my husband chose the soup of the day (tomato) a generous portion served with large slice of buttered bloomer and for his main decided on the chicken pie .. which he thoroughly enjoyed .. we didn’t have any room for dessert so couldn’t be tempted by the menu Although the restaurant area was full, the service was quick and efficient with the order all correct and served with a smile by the serving staff,(nice to they take your order at the table not having to go up to the bar with a table number!!) All in all enjoyed our visit and as we left we thanked Lola and complimented her on the way her and her staff had made our visit so enjoyable WE WILL DEFINITELY RETURN!!!

Always a warmwelcome and a good choice on the menu. Food always well prepared too. A nice place to go when you fancy a good meal in quiet and very civilised surroundings.

First time visiting this pub after driving past many times. I cannot recommend enough. Service was great and food was perfect! Definitely recommend the lamb shank, it was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone! Portion sizes were spot on and overall good value for money. Will be visiting again soon!

Wow! Can you go to a place a second time and it gets worse? Sadly, yes. The Castell Mynach was highly recommended to me a long time ago. I didn’t enjoy the below par food then, but thought, let’s give it another chance. Here’s my honest opinion. Parking at 7.30 full. Good sign? Waited while Mr Bean finally freed up a space and in we went. Fairly swiftly we were led to table 5. Relatively clean and in a great setting. It looks the part. The menus gave the clue. Cheap and nasty. I mean cheap. So to the food. I plumped for Freshly cooked haddock in batter? and “Triple cooked chips.” From ordering to being served it took approximately seven minutes. Really— that quick! How? It was clearly because the food hadn’t been freshly prepared and was a result of nothing more than a heating up. The batter didn’t just look greasy— it WAS greasy; and I mean GREASY. It wasn’t crispy, it was too oiled up for that. The fish itself was bland, It was watery and honestly, I’ve had better tasting fish fingers from Tesco’s. The title “Triple cooked chips” seemed to reflect that the nonsensical title was because the chips were probably returned three times and reheated. They were that hot that my wife has a blistered mouth as a result. True story. I didn’t want the mushy peas or any dressing so can’t and wont comment on them. I challenged myself to the “Triple scoop of ice cream” oh boy!! The dish when served looked like the ice cream had been served using a children’s toy spoon they were that small. To put into context, if you put all three together you’d still not make a standard sized ice cream lolly from Sainsbury’s. It equated to £2 a scoop which was an insult. The vanilla marbles (they really were that small) were full of hard ice. Clearly not home made and kept in a freezer at too high a setting. The chocolate marble was full of what I’m still debating were either glacial fragments or chocolate pieces. I really am struggling with that aspect. The waiter we had was awful. He spoke three words and looked grumpy. I don’t care if he was tired, he is paid to be tired. i give healthy tips to smilers through tiredness. He got nothing. The only good thing about the experience was the pint of shandy I had. At least that tasted as it should have. I would have spent a few hours in there and good money enjoying a great atmosphere but honestly, it was so rushed you felt compelled to leave. I did. Note: The gent who took my money was genuinely concerned about my disquiet about the food and offered me the manager. I don’t do scenes and care little about the £60 it cost. That money was well spent being able to warn people to be guarded on eating there. It seems consistently bad. Were there happy customers? It seemed like, I so wished I was one of those. To top it off, I was bitten on the neck by something that’s stinging like crazy as I type this. You couldn’t write it. Actually, you can— I just did. My apologies go out to my beautiful wife whose birthday was spoilt. She was happy ish with her food but knows I wasn’t. Poor show Vintage Inns. You need to wake up and get your act together. Nos Da.

It's a lovely place and lovely food and helpful staff the only thing is that dog's are aloud in the restaurant area which the dog was barking at people walking past it was not a relaxing meal.

Great ambience and a good variable menu. The food is very nice, the sea bass delicious. The staff are pleasant and friendly and service is good. Parking is easy and plentiful, a nice restaurant for a family occasion. Only thing I would mention is that food was a little late in arriving but I wouldn't let that put me off.

Drinks taken and given promptly, starters within 15 minutes and main course not 10 minutes after starters were taken away, food was amazing, really couldnt fault it, i had the mushrooms and for mains the new lamb shank, ow wow absolutly stunning, although the home made pie looked just as good, lovely staff, nothing was to much even tough u could see they were extreamly busy, brilliant fair play!!

Awful food Sunday late afternoon, everything was incinerated but Luke warm when served!? An afternoon on a hot plate cooked at midday most likely, beef very poor quality mainly gristle and at 5.30 already ran out of sea bass and Schnitzel the alternatives then were poorly cooked or burnt,Toilets disgusting save your money and cook at home this place doesn’t deserve a visit

After having plesent meals lunch times in this pub I booked to take friends for a birthday treat.. The service was not up to standard we waited over hour for our 2nd coarse the drink orders were wrong on 2 occasions the waiters were very plesent but obviously the venue had over booked the tables. The drink menu available is really expensive for area and did not expect yo pay £6.80 for pint of ale & £5.40 for bottle of alcohol free beer also £2.80 for bottle of tonic to go onto of price of gin is unacceptable for this reason we won't be returning to this public house The interior deco ambience of the pub is lovely
