Went for my cousin's wedding in September 2023. Place was freezing, wedding food was disgusting, (breakfast was fine). Whoever organised that wedding and whoever the chef was should be sacked! This picture was the "buffet" and the meal we all left! Djs music was too quiet, staff brought out wrong kids meals. If this was my wedding I'd be asking for a refund. Rooms were nice, venue is nice but weddings they ain't got a clue!

I have just checked out following two days at the Hotel for a friends wedding. Everything has been fantastic! Vicky at the check in desk is an absolute delight so welcoming and helpful on check in and saying hi everytime we ran through the lobby going to breakfast/dinner etc. as the first welcome to the hotel she really set the scene for a wonderfully relaxing weekend. As a Ceolic the gluten free is phenomenal. Kudos to the chefs. Living in the USA I would come back here for a weekend next time I am in wales. Thanks so much for the great stay!

Llechwen Hall is a lovely hotel and the food is very good. I will be back there again. Update: I have stayed at Llechwen Hall about 15 times in the past 6 months. My experience has varied little and always been positive. The staff are helpful, the food is lovely, the rooms offer good value for money and they are dog friendly! I strongly recommend Llechwen Hall Hotel

Absolutely stunning stay at Lechwen Hall for a birthday treat! From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in luxury and charm. The room was immaculate and the hotel offered breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The staff were incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring every need was met with a smile. One of the major highlights for us was the fact that Lechwen Hall is dog-friendly! Being able to bring our pup along made our stay even more enjoyable. The grounds were perfect for long walks with our pet, and the hotel's pet policy made everything seamless. The dining experience was exceptional, with delicious meals served in a beautiful setting. Overall, Lechwen Hall exceeded our expectations in every way. We can't wait to return for another perfect getaway. Highly recommend to anyone seeking a luxurious and pet-friendly retreat!"

*Before writing this review I contacted Llechwen privately to discuss our visit but after two weeks have had no reply and felt I couldn't hold off on the review any longer* I brought my mother for surprise afternoon tea on Friday 1st September where the only surprise was the appalling customer service we received. I'd like to firstly say that I understand Llechwen is a wedding venue and that a wedding was taking place at the same time as our afternoon tea booking, however, I do not think this is a good enough excuse for terrible customer service. Upon arrival there was a wedding party waiting in the bar area, this is not my issue, I fully understand that crossing a waiting wedding and afternoon tea bookings is difficult, my issue was being told to wait "in the corner" of reception until the wedding party were ready to leave. We were then left in Reception and had to ask for directions to afternoon tea. We were directed to a podium in the bar where we were once again left and ignored by the staff who chatted over a print-out instead of attending to the growing queue of afternoon tea guests. Once we were eventually greeted (and I'll use the term loosely as barking "what's your name" isn't a greeting) we were pointed through to the restaurant, past all of the abandoned glassware from the wedding that no one was clearing up. In the restaurant we were left standing as two waitresses shrieked and ran in and out of the restaurant and kitchen, laughing and joking. These waitresses were completely absent throughout afternoon tea and one dismissed my mother with a wave of her hand while she was mid-sentence. This was especially rude as they were discussing a misunderstanding on the venue's part regarding my mother's allergy. This was detailed when booked as a severe seafood (mollusc and crustacean) allergy and misinterpreted as a fish allergy. This was not a problem until the waitress cut my mother off as she was explaining she could eat a cod goujon. The afternoon tea itself was very enjoyable, and we would have liked to stay longer but a second pot of tea was never offered to us and honestly, we wanted to leave. As I previously said, I understand that there was a wedding going on at the same time as afternoon tea and that the majority of staff were likely diverted to this, but the waitresses we were left with were so rude, dismissive and at times childish (giggling at the coffee machine and running back and forth laughing) that it concerned me. In addition to this, when we spoke to Reception to get this email address to contact, we encountered another rude member of staff (male and wearing glasses) who again dismissed us and never asked why we were eager to contact the venue privately or if he could do anything to help us. I found the customer service we encountered from entry to departure was shocking and in dire need of improvement. Based entirely on this experience, I would not recommend Llechwen to anyone (for any occasion) due to poor customer service.

Stayed one night as my teenager had an interview in the area. We deliberately chose one of their newly refurbished rooms as it had air conditioning in the room. Room lovely, air conditioning as advertised and effective. Quiet and clean room. It was quiet even though we did see a wedding reception happening as we were checking in, no sound in the room. The room is modern. Hotel itself is beautiful and traditional. Staff lovely, everyone we spoke to. Breakfast was good and fresh and hot. Also a lovely room with a great view. If she gets the job, I think I will be staying here routinely, it’s lovely.

Staff were as great as last time we visited a month back. The beef & lamb meats were lovely as were the roast potatoes. The mushroom on bread starter was delicious too. However the broccoli & cauliflower were more uncooked than al dente, the gravy more like a jus was too thin, the crumble was inedible & we all tried it. It seemed that the powdery 'crumble' was an add on rather than part of the dish & the filling was sharp not sweet. Not bad value at £15 for 3 courses overall. The view from the dining area is really nice.

We visited on a busy Friday evening as a couple. The restaurant was pleasantly full and was also catering for a wedding. We had a really relaxed evening with excellent food and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Although still short staffed post lockdown the service was made more than acceptable by the friendly and open approach by the staff; especially Shaun who went out of his way to make everyone happy. We all understand that restarting after the trials imposed by COVID must be very difficult, and despite one or two glitches these guys have covered it very well. We really enjoyed our evening and wouldn’t hesitate to go back, especially supporting a local business.

We booked a table for our anniversary as we had our wedding at this venue. We were not informed of any limited menu at the time of booking. The choice was very limited, no steaks etc and the food that we did order that was available was very poor. Fish and chips, steak pie (that was so tough you couldn't chew it and a chicken dish that was way over priced that wouldn't pass for a bar meal. Add to that overpriced bottle of wine (probably the worse bottle of Melot that Ive tasted) and belive it or not no beers on tap and not even Zinfandel wine available even though that was on the menu. Add to that sticky tables with the cutlery sticking to the table and a broken chair that we had to swap . I could go on... It seems this place has lost its way and is a big disappointment. Definitely not what it was and very poorly managed. I felt sorry for the staff as I think they were embarrassed for us.

Sunday lunch - family party of 19 in socially distanced bubbles for a 60th birthday. The venue is pretty but the staff were obviously harassed and the meet and greet person most unwelcoming in her manner. Table staff were pleasant but we waited over an hour (on a very hot day) to receive a first tray of cold drinks and another half an hour after that to even receive our starters. Without exception the starters were delicious. After that it was all down hill. Those of the party who had beef (the majority) found two small thin slices arrived with a yorkshire pudding, (presumably oversized to make up for the scarcity of meat), a couple of dry roasties, and a roasted carrot - this latter was actually the nicest thing on the plate, together with the gravy which was delicious. Despite the slimness of the meat slices, we found the beef could not be cut with the knives provided and when we did manage to 'stretch' bits off, it took a great deal of chewing to get it down. Meanwhile, two of the party returned their lamb dinners almost immediately - one had such a thick layer of fat on the entire underside of one slice, again it could not be cut at all and the other dinner was not just beautifully pink but raw and bleeding on the plate. Then the dishes of vegetables arrived - the cauliflower and new potatoes were fine, but the broccoli and cabbage were utterly raw! I'm a fan of crunchy vegetables but it was ridiculous - the cabbage and broccoli stalks could NOT be cut with those knives!! Apologies were made by a pleasant waitress who replaced the 2 lamb dinners with beef and when they arrived there was at least a bit more of a generous helping of meat on the plate - but once again, it was IMPOSSIBLE to even cut the meat let alone chew it. the beef was left. As for the undercooked veg, the only thing that could be suggested was to bring us more of the same??? How does that help? By now, more than one of our tables were laughing out loud not because we were having a lovely time but laughing AT THE MEAL. No-one wishes to spoil anyone's special birthday by making a fuss and storming out but had it been a normal Sunday lunch we most certainly would have done. Its not even as if the meal is a cheapie - 3 courses at £15.95 and £2.20 for a half pint glass of coke on top should have ensured a tasty, heart meal, no problem. I cannot think what the management of Lechwen Hall can be thinking to serve such a substandard and by implication, over-priced offering. As for dessert - those who had cheesecake in a glass pronounced it tasty but the biscuit at the bottom was in a dust form and appeared to have never seen any butter. Meanwhile the chocolate brownie/ cake type dish was dry and as for the blackberry and apple crumble - its was so hard and congealed on top it was a threat to anyone's fillings - again we left ours. What an utter disappointment! They knocked a few cokes off the bill by way of compensation but beyond that nothing was offered other than constant apologies by the pleasant waitress. Well, that's Llechwen's loss - there were 19 in our family party and not only would we never recommend their attempt at Sunday lunch to anyone but we would actively discourage anyone from believing they are in for a treat at this venue. The complete opposite was our experience. Never again! Shame on you Llechwen Hall.

A surprise birthday party was arranged here at 2pm on a Sunday. Had the use of a large room for our 17 guest party. Meals (3 courses) were pre booked in advance. Location of this venue is excellent, at the top of a valley with superb views. The venue was well presented and although the headroom was a little low it added to the atmosphere. The first problem was bar service. The only gentleman serving had a hand-held card machine that had problems connecting so service was slow. Starters were served around 2.30pm. Most were well received, my trout dish was not pleasant and served on a flavourless biscuit. Mains were served about 20 minutes later. However, they took several relays to get the meat served, an age to get the vegetables, then gravy, then sauces. There was at least a 15 minute wait from first meat service to completing the service. Quantity and quality of mains were good, waiting ages not so good. Desert service was better. I`m not sure if there`s a long walk from the kitchen to the dining area but the slow service certainly deminished my enjoyment of the meal. Hopefully the business will take note of this critique as I would have happily given at least a 4 star rating if it were not for service issues.

Recent family meal, very disappointed in the quality of the food, most of our group felt the food was lacking in taste and quantity. The chicken meal which was supposed to be served with seasonal mash did not, the smoked haddock starter- described as having laverbread had none- very disappointed because the laverbread is why I ordered that starter in the first place, the haddock was an inch square- if that and completely lost in the huge portion of leeks. The halibut main meal was also poor, again overpowered with leeks, under cooked fish and the clam risotto that I was looking forward to was literally one tablespoons worth.

Visited on Tuesday for my sister's birthday. We were a party of 4 adults.Booked in advance but on arrival found we were the only group in the lounge.Disappointed as very quiet but decided that we would then have all attention on ourselves!! We ordered a bottle of wine @£16.95 and a glass of lager for my 91 year old father. We ordered x 4 fish and chips.Very easy for the chef one would think. We were called through into the restaurant and the food was brought through by a young waitress.i immediately swapped my dad's fish with mine as thought it looked overdone. This was an understatement. On seeing into my fish I found that the fish had completely disappeared beyond recognition and thus was the same for my mum and my sister. My dad's was marginally less burned but no flakes of white cod to be seen. Unfortunately my sister has diabetes and had injected her insulin when the fish and chips had been served so she needed to eat quickly. We paid for our drinks and left immediately. The young manager did offer to replace the meals but we declined. There was only one other table to be served before us and that was a table of 4 women having afternoon tea.How can anyone calling themselves a chef send out fish and chips for x 4 people that was so badly cooked? Think cook needs replacing. We subsequently left and picked up cod and chips from a local takeaway. Never again will I visit Llechwen Hall.Disappointed as it's a beautiful place with wonderful views. My sister survived to tell the tale!!

Even though we were traveling with our dog, and didn't expect the hotel to offer us any dining options to which our dog could accompany us, they were happy to set a table for us in the bar area, so we could enjoy dinner without having to leave our little four-legged friend alone in the room. The menu had some interesting options, and the food was excellent. The food wasn't over-priced, and service was very friendly and efficient. There were enough vegetarian options available as well.

Really wowed by the amazing scenery here. Food was good but not brilliant. Lovely venue for weddings. Got piped in for food as we got mixed in with a wedding party. Not a place I would take children for food unless they are really well behaved OR weather is fabulous so they could go outside to play. Definitely a place for couples

We went here (a group of work colleagues) for a celebratory meal and to have a wee nose round the hotel as a potential venue for a conference. The staff were friendly but it all felt a little bit amateur - not really sure why. The hotel is in an amazingly beautiful setting - in order to get to the hotel from the main road it's along a single lane road that's a bit windy but well worth the travail. The food was very adequate, not outstanding but good enough. I had soup as a starter - great actually with homemade bread. The bread lacked any salt which let it down. Other members of the group had, amongst others, scallops - looked great, duck - said was enjoyable and a filo parcel. I had sea bass as the main course on chorizo and vegetables. The fish was good but the veg was completely over salted - almost uneatable. Chicken kiev looked great as did the lamb. I didn't have a desert. There was a basil and lime tart that was so sweet my colleague couldn't finish it, the chocolate brownie was good. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive. It was enjoyable enough but far from outstanding.

La comida era excelente, así como el servicio y nuestros amigos que son viajeros experimentados estaban encantados en toda la experiencia

This hotel is obviously used for weddings - there was a mid week wedding there during my stay. The room was lovely and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. My only problem was with the restaurant service. We ordered afternoon tea and a sandwich but my food was eaten long before my husband's sandwich arrived (around 1 hour later). I then had another problem when I checked out. I wanted to keep my hotel bill separate (for business expenses) and I paid for the food and drink separately. When I checked out, all of the food that I had already paid for had been added to my bill, alongside a bill for a bottle of Prosecco which I had not ordered. I showed the receptionist my receipts and the extra items were taken off the bill. If you stay, please check your bill. I also had a frittata with spring vegetables as a meal. I have ordered this many times at other restaurants. This was the first time that I had a frittata with carrots, broccoli and gravy. It meant that the frittata was soggy from the gravy and tasted really weird.

Some of the items on the menu as excellent and others less so. The parsnip soup was so salty I had to send it back but the waiter immediately replaced it with something else and no argument. It would be good if they put cloths on the tables because the wood is very tired........at the point of becoming unhygienic. The breakfast is very good and the staff are very friendly, though inexperienced and a little naive. I like the place though. It is one of the best places available in the Valleys.

I have been coming to this restaurant on and off for the last 30 years and seen its good days, and not so good days.Having not been for a few years, it was pleasing to see the downstairs refurbishment which has opened up the lounge areas and added an impressive glass box in the restaurant, which affords good view of the surrounding mountains. The carpark was full for a wedding and the rooms seemed busy, but the restaurant was virtually empty, which doesn't help with the ambience. On the positive side the service was very friendly and the food generally of a good standard. The steak was excellent and the pork starter very tasty, but a bit on the small side. There were 2 major gripes. Firstly, although the service was friendly, it wasn't of a particularly high standard. Several tables in the restaurant had been left uncleared while we dined and were then cleared around us as we were eating the desserts. There was nobody at reception to meet us as we arrived and the bill was incorrect. The 2nd problem is that main restaurant seems to have 2 menus running at the same time. There is the a la carte menu with starters around £6-7 and mains £17-30, which attempts to be fine dining with some and also an "all day" menu with more gastro pub style dishes at around £10. Llechwen needs to decide if it is going to aim to be a relatively high end "fine dining" restaurant or more of an informal gastro pub type establishment, with the more informal service that comes with that. At the moment it is neither one nor the other and this provides a confused offering. There is a lot of potential here but the place is crying out for some experienced management to improve the service and provide the direction for the restaurant.

The grounds and views are picturesque! Food was very basic: starters had asparagus which was dry and wilted, albeit with a dip that was not "heavy" or unduly creamy (so liked the latter), lamb in the main course was all tendons and sinews- chewy and difficult to cut with cutlery provided, over-baked gnocchi was good and tasty, dessert was the worst we have ever had in even a very basic pub- we had different ones (chocolate cake, roulade, cheese cake) but they all looked very amateurish and hard as boards, that couldn't be "broken" down with fork/spoon...the sound of others attempting to do so was resounding all over the hall above the din of conversing people and the music! It took forever to clear the table after. Then came the coffee which was so STRONG that the milk provided, despite tipping it all in, was not enough to "mellow" down even one cup! The dessert-loving kids and coffee-loving adults couldn't finish what was in front at the table. We paid and left, vowing never to go there again! Sorry

We attended my niece's wedding here and stayed at the hotel overnight. The wedding blessing and the following wedding breakfast and evening reception were of a very high standard. The staff were really friendly and professional. Everything was perfect. The wedding marquee was an amazing space and they decked it out so beautifully for the wedding breakfast and evening function. We took 2 four poster bedrooms. One was in the main hotel building and the other was in the coach house. The bed in the coach house was far larger then the bed in the main building. Both rooms were beautiful though. Brea fast buffet pretty standard

My wife and I have eaten at the Lechwen Hall on a number of occasions during the last few years and prior to this visit in March 2017 our last meal there was on Mothering Sunday about 4-years ago. The situation of the hotel is magnificent high on a hill between two valleys, the views are splendid especially on a sunny day as this visit was. Since our last visit a marquee has been erected, it looks as though it is set out for wedding receptions and it is because of this that the experience was not as good as previously. Our family party consisted of six adults including two grand-mothers and a mother, we were given a table at the back of the marquee for our 'second sitting' lunch at 15.00 hours. Food had been pre-ordered so within about 10-minutes of sitting down our first course arrived; we had to ask for some drinks then when it would have been better had we been asked as soon as possible after we had been seated. The quality of the food was satisfactory considering that it had been prepared in advance and kept warm, it was edible and I have no problems with that, but it was the speed of service that was not so good as there was a gap of some minutes between the delivery of each set of meals, i.e. those diners on our table having beef were served, a few minutes later those having chicken were served, etc. Finally, after all main courses were on the table there was another wait and a small plate of vegetables was served. After dessert was eaten some coffees were wanted, in two ways this caused some problems because firstly, trying to attract the attention of a member of the waiting staff was difficult (they were under pressure and concentrated on delivering food from the kitchen and did not want to look elsewhere and catch a diner's eye on another table), our order was for 3 black coffees and 1 floater coffee. The 3 black coffees were brought to the table in about 10-minutes, a further 10-minutes (or so) elapsed and an enquiry had to be made as to the whereabouts of the floater coffee, we were told that the person who had been sent to prepare it had made it incorrectly and he/she was sent back to try again - eventually the floater coffee appeared. From the position of a customer (a customer that has experience in the catering business) I would suggest that the problems we experienced were due to the consequences of one managerial decision, it being make as much money as possible by filling all the dining areas available with two lunch sittings. The consequences of this being that food had to be pre-cooked and kept warm until required; many waiting staff were required, mostly young people, but they had been given insufficient training for such a big event, therefore they coped poorly as noted earlier. Prior to our visit my wife had looked at the website of the Llechwyn Hall and found that it was advertising its 2015 Mothering Sunday Lunch; what else does this say about the management of the establishment?Of course, potentially. the biggest consequence of this very average Mothering Sunday lunch is that the reputation of the Llechwen Hall may be lost; it has for many years been considered as one of the better places to eat in this area. I am concerned that customers will not be happy at paying circa £30 per head for an average meal and will be unlikely to celebrate a future birthday, wedding anniversary or simply have a meal out following this poor display.A message to the management of Llechwen Hall: Come on, get your act together, stop being another money-grabbing establishment, concentrate on what you are good at by providing good quality, well cooked food with impeccable service at a fair price, because if you do not, your customers will find somewhere that does.

We booked a meal at Llechwen Hall Hotel and overnight accommodation in February 2017 for a romantic Valentines night out. When approaching the hotel there was ample parking facilities with plenty of room to manoeuve. As we entered the restaurant it seemed dark and gloomy. The only sign that it it was valentines night was a single rose that adorned the empty table. The price of the drinks were quite reasonable, but the opposite was true of the limited food menu. A small 8 oz steak was priced at £27-00.There was no type of fish courses and little choice of main dishes. What was available, although small and tasty, was extremely overpriced..The service was poor, having to wait to long to be served, which was reflected in the price in the form of a reduction in the bill.In contrast, The 'Abercynon' Hotel bedroom suite was beautifully decorated and warm and inviting. With its large draped elegant four poster bed gracing the room, it made a welcoming place for any traveler. The room was clean and airy and a scenic view made for a romantic experience. In addition, there was plenty of space for luggage and clothes. The contemporary en suite bathroom was tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean with fresh linen available. All in all the hotel is a lovely building with beautiful accommodation, but the restaurant let the venue down.

A bit had to find, but a lovely location and attractive building. We were in the (dog-friendly) lodge in a large room with comfortable twin double beds. The style is traditional (and dated) and a bit worn (broken lock on the bathroom door etc). The room was also very hot and hard to regulate (open windows the only solution). The menu in the restaurant was ok, but the food was nothing special. The soup was tasty but also super-heated (microwaved?). My son's pudding was inedible (hard frozen in the middle) and must have been out of a packet (it got sent back).Service was friendly but not very polished (dishes placed on top of napkins, slow to respond - chased twice for pudding).

We went for Sunday lunch and to have a tour by the wedding planner as my daughter and future son-in-law have booked Llechwen Hall for their wedding venue next year. The main course was tasty and well presented and staff were courteous. I was a little disappointed by the bought meringue in the pavlova though. The new marquee looks great; coupled with the views it will be a wonderful wedding venue. The wedding planner was very helpful and answered all our questions.

Our office chose this place for their 2016 Christmas meal, and we were very glad we did. It's a lovely place, with very helpful and pleasant staff. There's a bit of a hairy drive up a steep, winding access-road to get there, which I wouldn't want to attempt in snowy or icy weather without the aid of a Sherpa team, but when you reach the hotel at the top you'll find yourself rewarded with some beautiful views. The building itself has some history, and is very nicely appointed inside and out. The dining room has a glass conservatory extension, which allows the diner to make the most of that lovely view. The food was simple and unpretentious, well prepared and very tasty. All in all, a very enjoyable experience.
