The Castaway in Highland

I ordered a 16” Margherita Pizza and chips with cheese from Castaway last night, and it was quite disappointing. The chips were excellent, as usual, but the pizza arrived lukewarm, feeling like I was biting into the cardboard box it came in. It tasted decent, but after spending over £30 on those two items plus delivery, I ended up just peeling the cheese off the pizza and eating that. I'm really let down and honestly, I won't be ordering anything other than fish and chips from there again.

Had Fish & Chips here on a Friday evening. I had to wait a little longer than I’d like but the fish and chips were well worth the wait, best fish and chips i’ve had in ages.

Chips really have gone downhill, par-fried ( as in the first fry ) and soggy. What’s happened to the wonderful crispy fries? Sorry but really bad. I’m afraid the owner needs to retrain the staff.

If you want a dry crap chippy then go here, avoid this place. Go to dolphin or harbour chippy, chips were hard and dry food tasted like it was cooked in old oil.... waste of money.

Portion control in the Castaway seems to be on a "who's serving you" deal. We had suppers last night that happened to be in the lower range. If I had looked in the chippy itself I'd have said something, but we were home before we noticed. C'mon guys, a fish from a fish tank and a handful of chips, really not on. Don't blame the cost of things as it seriously does eem to be down to whoever is serving. If this happens again (and believe me it will only happen once again) that's us, you're loss to one of the other chippys in the town. Make up your mind what a supper consists of, tell staff, and stick to it, so that customers don't fill with dread as the server changes mid "dishing up"...

Friendly helpful service and the best fish and chips I’ve had in years! Freshly cooked large pieces of fish and awesome chips. Nice one!

This would probably be the worst fish and chips I ever had. I was really looking forward to fish and chips. Fish was not fresh, and cooked in old oil, same with chips…tut tut I think you should be tasting your own food to check if it’s up to standard. Will never go there again.

WORST chip shop in Nairn by a long way. Customer service is appalling. Manager is something else! Food is very mediocre for the prices they charge. Did i also mention the manager is a horrible ,clueless man with no customer service experience. Avoid at all cost.

Worst customer experience I have ever encountered rude (1 staff member the young ones were lovely) awful awful manger passive aggressive refused to listen to my grievance or cancel my order I was so upset as were the two ten year olds with me, the food was good but never ever have I experienced such poor customer service In my life to the point of bullying and I left in tears

Really enjoyed the haddock, bacon and cheese burger,jumbo sausage and chips and curry sauce. Everything was hot and more importantly delivered to the Lochloy caravan site promptly. Used twice this holiday, would recommend.

We had fish and chips the fish had no taste will not return and the time wait was ok staff could be more cheer full also asked for salt. Conifer none

Phoned our order in . Arrived no problem two fish suppers were ready . Unfortunately not fresh and had a strong fishy taste . £21.10 including two cans is not a fair price for substandard freshness . Great site potential gold mine hindered by substandard food .

Good chipper, have been a few times before so knew it would be decent. Was a late night stop near closing time so they had limited options available but what we had was good.

I’d like to tell you how the food was but you need to get served in the first place - stood for 5 mins (only two of us in the shop) with two staff working behind the counter, one on the fryer and one cutting pizza , neither even acknowledge my existence- total disinterest in any customers - do yourself a favour and find a chippy that appreciates your custom as this one obviously doesn’t !

Just awful, little boy syndrome manager and shocking cold food. Avoid like it’s the last place to eat in this lovely town.

We had take away fish and chips tonight 30 June. I have never in my 65 years had fish and chips so bad. The portions of fish were minimal and tasted like a kipper, both our take always went into the bin even our Jack Russell refused to eat them. The staff too have forgot how to smile or say please or thank you. What a total waste of our hard earned money !..

On Wed last week I called to order 2 pizzas the price was not what was on there menu when I query it I was told that was it, she took £31 from my card and I said I wanted proof of price again she said no, I cancelled the order and said refund my money, this guy came on the phone shouting telling me he can do what he likes and I won't get my money back it is now 7 days later and I still don't have my £31 this is a rip of place with mega high prices avoid like plaque go to other pizza place in high St

Arrived at 6pm and placed a takeaway order for 5 suppers. The girl taking the order was very softly spoken, made worse by the face mask, but didn't make much effort to communicate clearer when it was evident she was difficult to hear. Was told it would be 15 mins so said I would wait. During my wait I realised by checking the menu board I had been over charged £5. 35 mins later!!! my order was called and 2 of the suppers were wrong, so they would have to sort it. I was told this would take about another 5 minutes. During this time other people who had come in after me had received their orders and left, numerous pizza orders and phone orders collected. There didn't appear to be anyone organising order priority. A further 15 minutes later I went to ask if my order was ready and was told it was, but only then did they start to tray it up. During this long drawn out procedure the girl stopped numerous times to answer the phone and take even more orders before getting my order ready. I had to ask for the refund of the £5 I was over charged and that was another performance.! I eventually left with the 5 chip suppers at 6.50pm!! 50 minutes to get 5 suppers is ridiculous. They clearly need someone to supervise and organise the staff and order s. When we eventually went to eat what we'd bought, the chips were undercooked, the sausages had no batter on ( didn't think you had to ask for this, and goodness knows how much longer that would have taken!!!) and the king rib was the weirdest taste, neither Chinese nor bbq! Certainly won't be back and wouldn't recommend.

It was great; great staff and cool owner and the food was great I would recommend this place to get chips or a meal

Food was amazing, a good affordable price for the quality of food you are getting. Very fast and quick service, food was cooked to order not sitting around for hours! There is a wide selection of food. Lovely friendly staff, will be coming back!

I had fish and chips and my sister and friend had chicken burgers. The food was excellent highly recommend and will definitely be back. Staff were all very friendly. All in all a lovely chippy and a wonderful last dinner for our holidays.

We had to order online then had to wait forever for the order. Then they had the cheek to try and charge us twice! My husband told them he’d already done so and showed the receipt only to be scowled at! The two small fish...

Great chippy lots of choice on the menu so much so we used two nights in a row. Food arrived quickly piping hot and delicious. Reasonably priced. Fish tasted super fresh in a lovely crisp batter. Would Highly recommend and will use again.

it was the best chippy i have had in years would recommend it to everyone to try. the food was fresh and hot and great service.

Stopped off in December to try the Xmas Pigs in Blankets supper. Just can't believe how well the new owners have transformed the place - It's gone from mediocre quality food and overinflated prices, to high quality food at a decent price. Had to wait...
