Nice pub just around the corner from work where we like to go for a drink. It is very, very small though and can be quite uncomfortable. Real shame there's no food on offer other than crisps. Real chips, nachos, or other nibbles would make a real difference,

I popped in today just before an interview next door, having forgotten my wallet back in Cardiff and having walked all the way from Paddington. The most unwelcoming pub ever, easily the rudest staff in London, possibly the world. Disgraceful. Customer service is nonexistent. They made our whole tour group feel like we had done something wrong by walking through their door. Their are Plenty of other pubs in a 5 minute walking distance of this dump that treat their customers a million times better.

I really do quite like this unassuming, almost 'hole in a wall' establishment. In this saturated era of bewildering variations on fruity, citrusy, crafty, frisky, IPA'y...blah-blah beers, it's just nice to be able to get a few calmer, deeper old school flavours. In fact, much more relevant to our northerly latitudes, especially with winter just around the corner.

Called up on Thursday and spoke to Sally to try to reserve a table for myself and a friend. Was told table reservations aren't possible as there's only 5 tables inside but would be likely to get a table at the time I was planning to arrive (2.30pm on Friday). My friend arrived first at 2pm and there was only one other table at the time occupied. At about 3pm we moved from inside to one of the tables out the front (I think there's a total of 3 or 4 tables out front) and by 3.30pm all of the office workers arrived and were spilling out into the road. Glad we got there early to get a seat! Enjoyed 3 pints of Spitfire each which were extremely well kept and were delightful! Will definitely be back the next time I'm visiting London.

We were in London to see the Wicked show at the nearby Apollo Victoria - and I immediately thought of the C&G for pre-show drinks, having visited at other times over the years. It's a very small and characterful pub with a cosy interior - we loved the pics of old London on the walls, and the sense of history. It's also a nice spot to sit outside and watch the world go by and, despite the huge towerblocks looking over and the noisy Victoria Road nearby, actually feels surprisingly quiet and villagey. There's a good beer range, and the girl behind the bar offered to let me try the beer before buying if I wished. If (like me) you're a fan of the cult 1960s TV show The Prisoner you're in for a treat - the house featured in the opening credits is literally behind the pub! I was so astonished when I first saw that, and it's another thing that makes this place so unique and special. I'd def recommend this small and unpretentious pub if you're in the area for a drink - looking forward already to my next visit.

Visited here every time we’ve come to London and it’s always been excellent. Arrived late Monday morning & initial observations were good. Tables & buffets neat, floor polished & a smell of Brasso in the air. Then all the good work ended. The lad left a 3/4 full pint in front of the hand pull while trying to top up another. Despite our attempts to alert him, he pulled, and beer went everywhere. He honestly did not seem like he’d worked a bar before. Our “pints” were an inch short & a request to top them up still didn’t fill the glasses. Other customers were left to wait while the spilled mess was cleaned up, while fruit tubs were messed around with, while napkin boxes were refilled. A French-sounding couple ordered a Neckoil which they were given with a huge head. By the time they’d got back to their table & beer had settled, they had 3/4 of a pint at best. If it wasn’t for our past excellent experiences, the rating would be 1/5 based on this time alone.

Stopped off here this afternoon about 1pm and was met by a lovely friendly bar maid who was so accommodating and knowledgeable with her recommendations for choice of beer we decided to stop off again on our way back home. Staff a 6pm, there were two of them, they were totally different! Not the friendly welcome we’d had earlier, indifferent, belligerent and lacked knowledge of their products. 10/10 earlier 5/10 this evening!

A short walk from our rooms and nearer still to Smithfield Market (open 2 am to 10 am, for those wishing to buy their meat earlier in the day), The Viaduct Tavern often is compared to the Princess Louise in the sumptuousness of its decor. But it is more renown as a true Gin Palace, where the list of gin and tonics runs to several pages (we were introduced to a Classic G&T, No. 3), the ice chipped from a glistening block of slowly melting ice. The magnificently foliated red ceiling, which variously has been described as beaten copper or tin, plaster or stucco, actually is Lincrusta, whose inventor changed his formulation for linoleum so it could be applied to walls and ceilings. Downstairs, if Jasmine has the time to show you, is a coal cellar, the hole in the ceiling, the opening through which it was poured from street level. (They’re not the cells of Newgate or a debtor’s prison but no less interesting for that.) Indeed, being able to see the casks from which the Fuller’s London Pride was being pulled is a treat in itself. If you intend to eat there, the ham and cheese toastie is especially good. And, if you also intend to have wine, certainly more than one glass, consider ordering the Saint Marc Sauvignon and taking the unfinished bottle with you. You’ll also want to reserve a seat, which The Viaduct does admirably well. On Thursdays, the busiest day of the week when patrons stand shoulder to shoulder, shouting over one another to be heard, you probably should retreat to Table 5 in the corner, a little nook that offers some refuge from the office workers prematurely celebrating the end of the week. We went there every other evening—always wanting the last experience of the day to be at The Viaduct—a feeling made possible by Jasmine and Sergio (who welcomed us so warmly on our first visit, when we had arrived in London only two hours earlier), Victor and Paige.

A good French Brasserie at a reasonable price. I love the decor and the food is excellent. Service is quick and efficient, which is important if you are there before a show. There is a prix fixe menu and daily specials. I love to eat there whenever I am in London.
