This is a delightful pub located down a side street near Aldwych. I opted for a Camden Hells lager at £7. They did have 3 cask ales available. Of interest is the special offer of a £10 lunch which is excellent value. It was fairly busy for a mid week afternoon, due mainly to a pub tour group. There is a nice seating area upstairs and a small standing area outside. The ceiling is covered with beer mats, a feature I liked. The bartender, Jana, was everything you could wish for, very friendly and engaging. In summary a very nice pub.

It's a nice pub, with character, but the lady that works there is extremely aggressive, I don't know who upset her, but she's not happy serving you. I asked for a pint glass for my drink, she rolled her eyes. Then she was serving a customer, so I was in the que looking at my phone, and she said "can you get off your phone, I've got things to do" to which I said, sorry I didn't see that you finish serving, and she was just full of thunder.....zero customer service....but hey, sometimes you don't know what people are going through in their personal lives, but hope things get better. Trying not to be a karen here....but cor blimey, it's every time I go!

I can only compare this pub with the way it was in 1982, when I was a regular, working in EC4. It was bustling. I’ve now been back four times over the years since, visiting from overseas. On these occasions, it has always seems moribund. There are better options in the immediate area.

Terrible staff (two ‘ladies’ behind the bar), rude and aggressive for some reason, like a couple of drug addicts no joke. Place is dirty and for the prices go next door to Devereux where you get a warm welcome. Seriously don't waste your time or money here. We visited this establishment for a lunchtime drink and snack, and whilst the beer was fine, the sandwiches were dire. Who only serves sandwiches on sliced white bread these days with no options ? The place was empty, which was hardly surprising, and it has really weird decor with old smoking memorabilia adverts. On the basis of this visit, i really cant recommend it as a must-see London pub.

In a crowded field of pubs near the Temple, the Edgar Wallace has the best atmosphere and a good range of decent value ales and lagers. The owner/manager is a really nice man who is almost always there and often having a drink himself. The pub has an iconic old school look, which I hope never changes. It also has an interesting history that you can read on a sign outside the pub (no spoilers!) You can easily spend a whole evening here catching up with friends in one of the pub's little nooks and crannies. Warning: it can get very busy on a Thursday or Friday.

Located on Essex St and dating back to 1771, this pub was originally called the Essex Head but had its name changed in 1975 to commemorate the centenary of Wallace’s birth in 1875. It wasn’t busy when we visited on a weekday afternoon and this gave us the opportunity to study the beer mats plastered over the ceilings and cigarette packets/posters on the walls. Unfortunately there wasn’t much choice in the way of ales and so our group moved on after one pint.

Returned recently after not having been for a few years and was very disappointed: they used to do an excellent steak and kidney pudding (not pie) and that is now off the menu. I. The decor is genuinely different. At the first floor coaster all around, some panels and also a nutcracker The second floor one corner old books, another part photos at 60s. Then also old magazines. Really entertaining. Mine criticism it is too the waiter. We were a big group, I was the only one that order wine. The wine was tasting like vinegar. I went to complain and she was adamant that she couldn’t give me a new one. That was the house wine . It wasn’t by the price but the taste was horrible. A guy in the bar even tried my wine and said the same. I said it was bad and the waiter got offended. Any other pub would give me a new wine without charging me and this one didn’t.

This is a good pub. I have no idea whether it is part of a chain or brewery but it didn't feel or look like it was, that's a great thing in my eyes and a rarity these days. Great atmosphere and good decor. Usual beers you get in most London pubs, I stuck to Tribute. Really friendly and helpful staff. Good choice of pub snacks, peanuts, scampi fries but no pork scratchings. I brought some American friends here and they got exactly what they were after, a decent London pub experience.

Went to this pub for the first time on Saturday. Very centrally located opposite Royal Courts of Justice off the Strand. Absolutely love the floor to ceiling kitsch, retro, pub-themed decor. Staff were so friendly (happy to accommodate some of the miscreants that I was out with 😂) Menu basic but really good - I had the corned beef & mustard toastie and it was great! Such a change to the norm! Several people had the fish finger or sausage & onion equivalent and enjoyed theirs too. Fairly cosy space-wise but nice room upstairs as well, and..... the important bit for us ladies.... the loos were gorgeous! I was visiting London from NS, Canada, and I stayed in the building right next door to the Edgar Wallace the week of September 18th. (above the Devereux)...One evening around 9:30pm, I poked my head in the door just to see if their kitchen was still open. A kind gentleman said it was not but what would I want to eat? They could maybe get me something. It was so kind of him to ask. It turns out he and his wife own the pub. I ended up just sitting with them for a pint and chatting about Nova Scotia and London. I was so glad to have met up with them and always chatted and waved on my way by the rest of the week. It was usually always busy midday and after work! Although I didn’t even catch their names, this is such a great memory for me of London. I spent my last evening having a couple pints and chatting with some of their local regulars. Edit: thank you for your response (which they have since removed 😂). Again, I reiterate, all I wanted was water NOT alcohol (and I'd happily pay for the convenience of water, soft drinks, loo) to get away for a bit from all the noise and free flowing drinks. So thank you for providing a safe and friendly environment. Not. Some of the most appalling service I have ever come across. A friend rushed in here and ordered something, and as I was checking to see if he was OK, I ordered water. At this point I was told in no uncertain terms that they don't hand out free drinks (I'm good to pay for it if they don't want to give tap water) but also made numerous remarks that I should be ashamed, clearly go back to the bar around the corner and go away/out. A customer started this, an old grumpy and clearly angry man and the barmaid went along. As a young, single lady late in the evening I have never seen both a customer in the bar and the barmaid say anything as rude as this. It was the tone, nearly menacing, and generally horrible attitude. I don't ever expect free drinks and I'm happy to pay for them, but I will NEVER return here or waste my money at the Edgar Wallace as they clearly don't want customers. The place was also dead on a Friday evening. That should say it all. Honestly, find a different career. The service industry isn't for you.

Happened upon this tidy little place during tonight's womble and almost walked past it, glad I didn't. The Edgar Wallace is named after the journalist/soldier/playwright and has a lovely plaque outside giving a synopsis of his life. Uber charming exterior to this place and then you walk in! Inside is amazing! A gorgeous little quintessential pub. Beermats ALLL over the ceiling, more retro cigarette advertising that I can remember and no frills, comfy, purposeful seating. A friendly smile and polite chat at the bar and a rather nice pint of Guinness had. Serves food (toasted sandwiches served with chips) and it was yummy. Again, no frills. A back Street London pub, a toasted sandwich with chips arrived on a plate. No messing around with daft salad nobody eats or served on a shovel or door frame (which I detest!). The chips were plentiful and yummy, arrived pre-salted so be sure to ask if you don't want it. The sandwich (lots on offer including vegetarian) was thick, freshly toasted and I had black pudding and bacon. Delicious. And well priced at £9. There's no TV with rubbish on (there's not one at all). No jukebox or the latest Prime music mega mix. All bonuses in my eyes (and ears) and from what I saw, appreciated by everyone in there as they enjoyed conversation with friends. LOTS of beers, spirits and wines to choose from and at a reasonable price (£5 for my Guinness) Staff were lovely, polite and welcoming with a cheery hello and a pleasant cheerio. If you're a wombling in the area, do pop in.

Tucked away down a side street in the heart of the city, the Edgar is a fine old traditional London pub. It's quite compact with a single, square shaped room, although there is some additional seating upstairs, where the toilets are also located. The walls are a shrine to the tobacco industry of yesteryear, with a miscellany of old cigar and cigarette packets, advertising posters and other smoking paraphernalia whilst the ceiling is covered throughout in old beer mats. This all contributes to the overall atmosphere of the pub. Food is fairly basic, currently restricted to a range of toasted sandwiches with a variety of fillings, served with chips and all priced at £9.50. They are, however, somewhat superior to the standard toastie, with nice thick bread and generous fillings. There's a good range of four or five ales on offer, mostly from smaller London breweries. Staff are welcoming and friendly.
