Absolutely wonderful people who run the hotel and a beautifully homely atmosphere along with decor! Supper clean and very well presented rooms along with immaculate bedding etc. The food at this place was top notch and Chef Cara’s creations were divine! It’s the sort of food you’d expect in an over priced restaurant somewhere swankey, the presentation was beautiful and the flavours were fantastic and each plate was empty every time! We could of gone out and tried other places to eat but when the food was that great you really don’t need to! So thank you for the delicious meals guys! It is a must if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, harbour walks and the bay there are soul juice! 2 people on the beach over the hour I was there with the dog. Definitely returning in the not too distant future.

We have been visiting relations in Campbeltown / Machrihanish for around 30 years and due to circumstances this time we were looking for a hotel in Campbeltown, but unfortunately, or fortunately as it turned out, all the popular hotels were booked up possibly due to a huge Cycling Event that was being held that weekend in the town. We booked the Carradale Hotel and were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the road north to the hotel, around 25mins drive. On arrival we were greeted by Rhona the hotel owner. The hotel is run by Rhona and her family and they were all so pleasant and attentive. Fabulous breakfasts to cater for all tastes and equally fabulous dinners in the evening. Our room was perfect with huge comfortable bed and was very clean and nicely decorated. We will for sure head back here in the future and recommend this quaint hotel as somewhere different to spend a day or two. Well Done Rhona & Family…. Many Thanks for a memorable stay….Bill & Agnes

A beautiful restaurant serving the most wonderful food. We came as a family of 4 and we all agree that this is one of the best restaurants we have ever ate in ….. so much choice, the food was cooked to perfection and the portions were plentiful! We had a lovely meal last week. Everything was freshly made, piping hot and delicious. We had creamy cajun chicken, cheese burgers, sausages, skin on chips and homemade onion rings. Portion sizes were huge. Both my daughter and I are celiacs. Our order was taken and there were lots of options available. I had the Cajun chicken and my daughter had the sausages. So nice to have so much gf options, that don't compromise on taste. The burgers looked delicious. Good quality and very succulent. Great value. All served with a smile. We will be back.

What a find. We arrived early and were able to check in straight away as we were wet and cold. Beautiful room, clea and comfortable, a really lovely building with oak furniture and a very warm atmosphere. The owners made us feel valued and were so helpful. The food was incredible !!. Tapas style scottish fare, local produce cooked beautifully by the owners daughter. Breakfast I the conservative was fabulous, everything you could ask for, eggs Benedict with haggis, smoked salmon with soft scrambled eggs, continental choices too. Highly recommended. We will return.

Ate in the charming restaurant situated in the conservatory. Loved the ambience and decor of solid modern oak furniture and soft lighting. The tapas style dishes were inspired and utterly delicious. Small plate sized samples of locally sourced produce. The Kintyre/ Campbeltown smoked salmon was delicious as was the melt in the mouth, lamb Yorkshire puddings. To finish, we enjoyed delicious profiteroles and the good conversation of our three fellow diners and an affable waiter. An excellent evening!

Visited for an evening meal with my wife whilst on holiday. Excellent food, and good, friendly service. I had the langoustine that had been landed that morning. Served with smoked mussels. Absolutely superb. My wife had three dishes from the Scottish tapas menu, all of which were excellent. Home made churros and profiteroles for dessert was the perfect end to a very good meal. Would definitely recommend. P.S. I have read some of the negative reviews about the service and welcome. Absolutely not our experience. I think the reviews are probably more of a reflection on the authors than the establishment.

Had drinks in the garden and dinner in the conservatory. We'd been asked about any dietary requirements at the time of booking, which is always a good start. The Wee Scottish Plates is local produce in a tapas style. Sections of meat, fish and veg based dishes. Highlights for me were venison meatballs, monkfish and the house version of salad nicoise, with hot smoked salmon and smoked mussels in place of tuna. Friendly local waiter with plenty of local knowledge. Unhurried and good value.

We arrived at the carradale hotel after a long walk through the village. Given it was the only place open nearby we thought we’d stop for a drink. Initially we thought it was closed as it was very run down looking and the sign on the bar door said ‘closed’. However we decided to go in and chance our luck as we were desperate for a seat. The staff weren’t the friendliest and we were expected to order our drinks whilst standing at the door (no menu was offered). There was very limited choice and our drinks arrived in their cans with no offer of a glass. Inside is very bland with no pictures on the wall and it was completely empty with no atmosphere. Many of the tables outside on the grass area were starting to collapse and one had been used to store dead plants underneath. Overall wouldn’t recommend as there is another pub in the village that is much more welcoming and has much more to offer.

Booked a table in the restaurant. Pleasant views and attentive staff. Food was ok. It was a set menu (£28 for 3 courses or £23 for 2) with 4 or 5 choices. The menu sounded great and the dishes were fine but nothing special and didn't always delivered what was promised. Felt a bit overpriced. We had much better food elsewhere for the the same price.

What a great wee hotel nestled in a great part of Scotland. Staff are brilliant and service is first class. Shown to my room from reception, excellent room and everything you can expect from a quality hotel. Alex and Liam who work behind the bar and serving food (local lads, always good to see) were fantastic....nothing was a problem, well done. Great to sit out, have a drink and eat in a well maintained and well furnished garden. I would highly recommend this hotel both for a drop in for eat/drinks or an overnight stay. I will definitely be back and highly recommend.

Came in here for a few drinks and food while in the area First off the service was poor, waiting times to be served while staff are in the back area... got shortchanged buying a drink and then when we paid for food we had 2 extra drinks added to the bill that we did not actually have...! Unfortunately we did not realise this until it was too late and we had returned to our hotel and looked over our receipt. Really poor as far as service is concerned, the young boy at the bar was also very strangely behaved and made us feel uncomfortable. Comparing this to a smaller hotel in the area the differences are quite unbelievable. We have a lot of friends and family that travel to this area of scotland and i WILL NOT be recommending this place.

Every table has a reserved sign on it yet they have NO customers and nor do they want any. We wandered into the hotel at 12.45pm on a Saturday in mid holiday season and were accosted by staff saying “what do you want”. We replied saying a drink from the bar and were told that the bar did not open until 1pm !!!They are also letting the garden go to ruins. There used to be lots of tables and now just a few benches remain. We used to go in for a drink after a round of golf and now we can’t and don’t want to. We miss it. We stayed four nights at the hotel and, after eating there the first night, weren' t tempted to try anywhere else as the meal was so good. The icing on the cake that night was live music in the bar with a couple of Geordies playing fiddle and guitar and Lorne MacDougall, who was back visiting his birthplace, playing the bagpipes - and can he play! There was enough choice on the menu to keep our party of nine (including a vegetarian) happy and all the food was freshly cooked and very tasty. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and, when the youngsters got flooded out of their tent (camping in Scotland does have its perils) they tumble dried their clothes and found them a bed. The hotel isn't a luxury retreat but everything was clean and worked and any niggles were compensated by the attentiveness of the owners and the excellent food

Sailed in for some food with friends. The somewhat limited lite bites option menu was all we could have as it was mid afternoon. We had Cullen skink and a burger. Neither dish was very good. The haddock in the soup was tough as was the burger. The burger came without any garnish. No one in our party enjoyed the food . The pub seems quite nice and has a pool table and a good selection of ales. We’d stop for drink again but give the food a miss till things get better.

Have been coming to Carradale for many many years as our parents live there. We Have always find the local people very welcoming and polite. However, my son and young family went into the bar firstly to see if they had any room for us to have a meal and secondly to play a quick game of pool. The time was 5.40 and was very rudely told children were not allowed after 6pm. Ok so a quick game of pool and we will find elsewhere to eat. But after the bar mans manor was so so rude they decided not to bother as they were not going to be spoken to like delinquents!! You can imagine our surprise when we were. Waiting outside only to see a couple with 2 children enter the bar, and be served! I was fuming I decided to go and enquire as to how this was allowed? And told they are locals and will leave by 6!! So would we had we been given the chance! The manager came out and explained the law which I fully understand that wasn't the issue, the issue was the rudeness we were shown. I said perhaps there should be a notice somewhere that made it clear to people that children were not allowed in after 6pm. To which I got told there is a notice at which I was shown ( in small writing on the wall inside the pub under the fire rules)! I'm sorry but who reads the fire rules when they enter a premises! A notice on the entrance door might have been more apparent. Just as a side note the Smirnoff Ice was 8 months out of date on our last visit 3 weeks ago !!!! We had heard from various sources that since the change in management that the reputation had gone down hill.

I've been coming to Carradale for more years than I can remember, my mum's been coming at least 50. In the last few years of coming here the hotel, and indeed the village as a whole, has been getting quieter. Last year we heard the hotel was for sale and we were excited to find out what the new owners would do with the place, as it was quite frankly tired and run down. We went for a meal tonight. Although the village has been busier, we didn't think we would need to book. We were advised by one of the team that they were fully booked, we were 3 adults and a child, however after checking with the new chef, we were accommodated. Although the service was a little slow, due to how busy it was, the food and the staff were excellent. As regular visitors to Carradale we highly recommend the hotel for a meal and look forward to our visit next year. Can't wait to see what's happening then xx

The hotel is situate in a small hamlet a few miles from Campbeltown. It is quite remote. The hotel has good basic amenities. We were welcomed nicely by the staff. They thoughtfully reserved a table at dinner for us. We ate at the hotel. The hotel said it was dog-friendly. On reflection taking our dogs into the bar to have dinner was a mistake. A truculent old harradine made a comment about the dogs being there. No one else minded. The old lady left and then strangely the owner of the dog-friendly hotel asked us to remove the dogs. We did so but did not feel very welcome. Particularly as when the local lady had left after complaining about everything else the mood had lightened and we chatted freely with the other residents. The staff were very nice generally. Although after the meal an older man started asking us about our experience to that point, he did not introduce himself but we assumed he was the husband of the lady owner. It appeared the owners were the ones with service issues and were not welcoming. The room was basic and clean although it was a double bed which is the first time I have seen one in a hotel in years. There was quite a lot of noise from the kitchen area/yard until quite late. The food in the bar was good with generous portions and inexpensive.

We found it tricky to book a table at the cruben restaurant as it was booked up well in advance and our party was for 10 people. I guess this is testament to the outstanding food that is on offer, and I mean outstanding. Cooked fresh to order, every taste catered for, including a kiddies menu. The wines and beverages were plentiful and the atmosphere relaxed and warm. The service was friendly, aiming to meet the needs of the diners, nothing was too much trouble. There is a specials board alongside the standard menu and I chose the lemon sole, cooked to perfection. On a nice night, the beer garden would be beautiful. Very reasonably priced and completely satisfied all round. Can't recommend highly enough, worth the drive which would have stunning views, weather permitting...

Enjoyed a lovely meal with friends - great food (the haggis and fishcake starters were really nice). Helpful, chatty and friendly staff on the whole (the lady from Hull is lovely - as is the guy from Newcastle we'd chatted to on a previous visit). The only downside was the end of the evening when the owner - Marcus - made a point of mentioning that if we wanted coffee they had actually stopped serving it 10 mins ago. We then heard him tell the waitress that "they are deciding if they want coffee - give them 30 seconds"!! We shouldn't be surprised really - have experienced this Faulty Towers kind of service here in the past. He should take a few tips from his son Tom who does customer service to a tea

We revisited here after 41 years. It was sunny like before but everything looked a little smaller. Nice country hotel with comfortable rooms and well appointed. Meals good but service very slow. Friendly staff.

We have eaten here, in the Cruban bar, twice in the evening and weekend have all had very good food. The first evening the restaurant had officially closed but we were given a table. The staff are very helpful and service is excellent. The food is well presented and cooked to order so be prepared to wait. Sit in the conservatory if you can.

The menu has been expanded since we were here last and now includes a variety of burgers. I had the Thai Vegetable Burger served in a brioche bun with chips and onion rings and it was delicious. The puddings are mostly very original and tasted great. It's very cosy either eating in the bar or the conservatory but make sure you book if possible because it was very busy over the weekend. The staff were very nice and chatty - when they had time - and service was reasonably quick given how busy they were.

Cycled over from Campbeltown and was served by a guy, not in uniform, who after resentfully pouring my drink, came out from the bar, flicked his hair and went back to drinking a glass of wine. I don't even know if he was staff. I immediately felt unwelcome. Finished my hefferlee (lager that tasted of water, but i guessed better than tenants) and left. I got back to the hostel - bad reviews all round, owners not popular.

We were out walking in this beautiful village, and popped in for a light refreshment.I had notion for a cocktail, in spite of the hour, and the others had a beer ............The two barmen/waiters were so welcoming, and did not mind in the least making me up a mystery cocktail.........amid much laughter (on our part) as they were so easy in attending to my odd taste/notions, and the end result was so, so delicious! mixtures of fresh strawberries, melba, peach , grenadine, and goodness what else! I didn't care, it was delicious, and the men kept us well informed of all going on in the area, and after a good hour, we decided to book dinner for later that evening. Dinner was so, so tasty, and service was with a great welcome and smiles all round. We ate three courses, had wine, beers and I had my new favourite drink....yes, my mystery tasty cocktail! We left well welcomed, spoiled, and feeling the warm afterglow of folks well fed ! I would return again and again to this friendliest of places in a wee corner of Kintyre!

My family and some friends visited this restaurant last night, and had the most fantastic meal. The presentation was great, there is a wide choice of meals, and the service was great too. I am sorry I didn't get a photo of the food, as it was all presented very well, and the staff adapted a meal to suit our teenage son without any fuss. We have been to the hotel a few times, and this had to be one of the best meals we have had there, just wonderful. ( I had the asparagus tips in parma ham with poached egg, and lemon sole from the specials menu and it looked as wonderful as it tasted.) Well done, and thank you :-)

Many thanks for the excellent service, dinner and setting on the two occasions we recently ate at the Carradale Hotel. The dinning room was fantastic and the food a great hit with my family, Morag was the perfect host and in fact all of the staff were friendly and attentive. The value for money was superb with a dinner for 4 including 2 starters and 3 deserts plus drinks coming in at £80.00. Will definitely visit again when next in the area. Thanks again for 2 fantastic evenings.

Pulling up to The Carradale Hotel after a long days work nearby I didn't quite know what to expect! We made our way inside (via the conservatory entrance!) and sat at one of the tables near what I understand to be the 'resident's bar'. The staff were very friendly, had a good sense of humour and were quite happy to chat to us.Being right by the sea I thought it would be a good idea to have the fish and chips and my colleague had one of the burger specials. When the food arrived it was nicely presented and the batter on the fish lovely and crispy and the chips cooked perfectly. Really delicious and very enjoyable. Also I was surprised how good value it all was!Whenever I'm back in the area again I will definitely return.

Our group of 4 hiked the Kintyre trail over several days and stayed here for 2 nights. Marcus the owner picked us up early as it rained the last hour of the hike, which we truly appreciated. He's got a dry sense of humor, full of interesting stories and helpful about nearby hikes. We LOVED the food here. We though the food selection was very diverse and loved the super fresh ingredients: fish cakes, indian, interesting salads... were beautifully presented and super tasty. They were also flexible with meals, as they made me coffee with ice cream with coffee when I asked. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. Only complaint is that sometimes the food can take quite a while to prepare and we were starving. Overall however, we enjoyed our hotel stay and food and would recommend this place.

The hotel needs to try harder. Friendly enough staff but the food is a little processed? Some things look ok but we had the chicken curry and a burger. Curry ok but a bit "boil in the bag". Burger was also fine but lacked something. The presentation on both dishes was good but it was making it look like something special. I am afraid it was not. Really want to like the hotel food but....

Great location and beautiful drive around Kintyre coast. Visiting hotel since brother had enjoyed 1970 honeymoon there. We struggled to find car park but were made very welcome by young man in bar. Food served was freshly prepared but the beer batter on my fish was a bit thick and soggy inside. Lunch served with lashings of sound tourist advice, supported with an annotated map of Kintyre. "No toilet paper in gents", "Sorry about that". Let me get some might have been a more suitable answer. . . . .

Typical pub style food, though the sharing platters for a starter were good. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Wish that the locally caught seafood was available on the menu and not just shipped south to the big city!

We enjoyed our evening in the bar at The Carradale Hotel. Good choice of food, staff friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our meals. Good effort for our allergic son who had a tasty meal too. Starter platters looked lovely, we'll try one on our next visit. Board games and cards available to keep children busy, they were allowed in the bar until 8 which suited us fine. Would recommend and we'll definitely be back before we leave.

Came in for lunch as part of a group of 5 - decided to stop more by chance than anything else. Thee barman-cum-waiter was extremely friendly and efficient. The comments made by other reviewers are quite negative - the food wasn't the same standard as a hotel chain, but it was good quality bar food all the same. If I'm passing back through Carradale, I'll be sure to pay this place another visit!

My husband and I are visiting Scotland from New Zealand and have been to the Carradale Hotel for lunch twice now, having been taken the first time by friends who live locally. Both times we had absolutely delicious food and top notch service. The place itself doesn't look all that flash but they have a light and airy conservatory area with seating in addition to the inside part. They have a great selection of vegetarian food as well as seafood and meat, the hardest part of going is choosing what to have. They also have tasty local beers. The wait staff are very friendly, attentive, and professional. They don't hang around annoyingly behind your shoulder but do pop back and forth frequently to make sure you have everything you need and are enjoying your meal.Overall, the place could probably make themselves look a bit more welcoming on the outside but it is really worth it once you get in!

Was expecting great quality fresh food . But very disappointed . Looking forward to local mussels but off the menu . Scallops were fresh but the sauce let it down and the bread was stale and expensive . Both in the end had fish and chips , that was two very small pieces of fish each , couldn't hardly see any fish , most likely frozen due to the texture and appearance . Staff were excellent and beer was good

I am giving you an excellent review based on previous visits but arrived Thursday 14th November at 11:15 and it was closed. Website says open at 10:00 and opening time on door says 10:30. Several people left disappointed during my 20min seat on bench. Off to Port Bannatyne for my brunch. Can you update your opening hours on door and social media platforms.

Met up with a friend for lunch today. ALWAYS reliably happy with our meals at The Esplanade over the many years.... But today's young chef was very astute with his skills. We had *Cullen skink, the baguette was fresh and warmed....so often it is not; (it's the little things like this that make you come back,), *fish n chips, and *incredibly chunky steak pie, with a lid rising up to the ceiling I'm my opinion all 3 meals really were the best examples on the island. Well done to: *The Esplanade for keeping up the standards of quality which bring people back * The Chef * The always friendly and helpful waitress 😁 (Love the new curtains and furnishings 😁)
