Took a visiting friend for a drink here. We go quite often. Lovely atmosphere, busy on weekends a lot quieter in the early week. It is nice to visit the oldest pub in Newport and see it doing well.

Hands down the best pub in Newport. Some say it's an old man's spit and sawdust kind of place, but to me it's pub perfection. The regulars are friendly and there's never any trouble. Excellent staff and management do the pub proud. Amazing jukebox with some of the best prices on drinks around.

Great service, the best and friendliest bar staff and all around friendly pub, never had a problem with either the bar staff or the customers, will 100% recommend this place to anyone who either wants a quiet pint or wants to go out and meet some interesting people

Pleasant place for a pint. Some interesting artwork on the walls and a very friendly Jack Sparrow lookalike character at the beer engines. Great service and I was shocked at how very reasonable the prices were.

Love this place and the staff are fab

Only downfall is the toilets are upstairs, a bit like weatherspoons, saying that they were clean, had toilet paper even in the early hours of the morning. Open until late, late.

The bar person made me feel very welcome. Very pleasant during all interaction. Comfortable surroundings,excellently poured pint and very well price. 10/10 in my mind.

First time back since 2013 and same landlord Kieran behind the bar. Only had a quick visit but same atmosphere, almost, from way back. Beer was fine, along with comfortable seating and polite staff.

Nice local boozer, used by Newport football and rugby fans on match day. Good pub for watching live sport and reasonable prices for beer.

A Newport legendary pub located on the High Street not far from the train station, large variety of drinks are on offer as well as a nice selection of beers on tap. this place offers a unique American football/sports themed environment with a large seating area with table tennis + a pool table over 2 floors. Outside seating is offered most daytimes & evenings.

Chilled atmosphere, good food. Great pub. We travel from Swansea just to come here. It's well worth it. The team here are fabulous

Originally The Carpenter's Arms, first opened in its original building in 1403, complete with prison cells where criminals were held before appearing in Monmouthshire's county court. Now? Now you come here for a great atmosphere, excellent music, drinks and a service that makes you come back. Did I mention the music yet? Please, do give them a visit and try it out yourself!

Paid 2.25 for a pint of Coors, said wow that's cheap mate and he says that's the price every monday! Can't really go wrong! Pint and a game of pool 👌, Only downside being theres no air con and with this weather air con was much needed, ended up having to leave as the heat was just unbearable. Throughout any season apart from a heatwave or summer this place would be 110%

Pub was ok..staff seemed friendly but when I went to the ladies loo I was confronted by a hideous smell and sight! No toilet gets that dirty...that's been like it for weeks. Time to sack your cleaners and hire someone who can actually do the job!

Quality boozer, no pretension, show the sports

Good selection of beers. English breakfast is pretty good. Visited few times. Sometimes can be bit noisy.

Ok people and pricing bit run down

Been open for over 200 years. Management are great, the staff have a great vibe and the drinks are cheaper than a lot of places in Newport. It's a great pub for those who are into alternative rock, metal, etc.

Excellent value on drinks. Popular place to watch NFL games in Newport, watched a playoff game here in January 2016 and it was a really pleasant atmosphere with rival fans enjoying themselves even in a deeply attritional game, and I never felt unsafe even amongst Vikings fans frustrated at that team losing via an embarrassing field goal miss. Can't ask for much more than that from a sport-watching venue.
