Brilliant Hotel, close to city centre with everything within walking distance. Recently refurbished with comfortable beds. Good cooked breakfast in the morning, glad I didn't take on board other reviews, people do love a Moan!!

Was unsure what to expect having read the reviews, however I was pleasantly surprised, Staff were helpful sending details of how to access the building and where our room was. Overall the place is a bit dated but not really worth a complaint it's just minor things like old carpets and needs a touch of paint here and there. Only really 2 small issues in that the bathroom needs a brighter light as it only has 1 very dim one and couldn't see in the mirror as it was too dark. The other issue was I thought we had paid for breakfast too but it wasnt included. Location was great a few mins walk to the town. would recommend for anyone wanting 1 or 2 nights cheap and cheerful stay, maybe would bit a bit small for a longer visit though.

An OK place for a lunch. Nothing to shout home about. Basic food. Basic service. Rather expensive prices for a bog-standard menu of select foods. Not a place that I would recommend to anyone.

We got, to the Carlton on the Saturday afternoon, there was nobody there so we were given a code and went to our room, the room was very dated with an awful brown leather lounger in the room. The bed sheets and towels looked very old and thread bear and stained. The bathroom lights did not work properly and the carpet was not clean. We both felt very uncomfortable about staying in the room and there was nobody there to talk to about the room to ask if we could be moved or a refund. So we booked in to the Premier Inn rugby left the key in the room. We paid for two hotels on Saturday as we were at a wedding. The photos online compared to the room we had booked was horrific. Stopped at the Carlton Hotel for a week whilst working in Rugby. This is my type of hotel in so much that I avoid the corporate hotels whenever I can. The staff at the Carlton were extremely friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The food was not only excellent but is also sensibly priced. Rooms are clean if slightly "tired" but include all the extras such as bottled water, biscuits, pastries and a plentiful supply of tea and coffee. My room was at the rear of the main building and was lovely and quiet. All in all if you, like me, enjoy a down to earth, friendly hotel serving good food then give this one a try.

Another year at Carlton Hotel and I weren't disappointed. I love to come here for Christmas as to me it is traditional Christmas food. I never leave disappointed with regards to food. There was a bit of wait when we arrived before we were taken to our table which was strange as we were the first ones to arrive. Nothing major though. The creamy leeks this year were a tasty addition. I will be back in 2018.

Went with my family for my birthday as this used to be a family favourite. Used to, but not now. The door was locked on arrival Staff seemed confused We were not offered drinks until 15 minutes after arriving The bar had a terrible selection The food was of a poor quality and lacked flavour Meat was dry and tough Serving staff managed to brush their arms in to our food. My wife’s food had a plastic strip hidden in it. When pointing out to the serving staff they argued against it saying that all the food is fresh. Then they came back and offered a free dessert, however we were ordering from a set price menu. I assume new management, really not the place we used to enjoy

Wow, not only is your customer service shocking you tell lies too. You have not responded to my emails or phone calls and I did not only wait for 5 minutes. It takes longer to pack for goodness sake. You clearly don’t care about your customers.

The restaurant had a lovely ambiance. We were a party of 28 and I can honestly say the whole evening was perfect. The staff couldn't do enough for us and were very attentive. The food was very good and served piping hot. They also had a traditional sweet trolley with freshly made desserts. I would recommend this place for any occasion weather it be an intimate dinner or group meal.

We booked here for our family Christmas dinner. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Despite the size of our party, there was some flexibility with the menu even though there was lots of choice on the Christmas menu. The food was delicious and everybody left feeling full. The price for a three course Christmas meal was very reasonable. I would recommend The Carlton for any occasion.

Must preface my review by saying the building is not in an attractive part of the town so I had no great expectations. Can't say there is much ambience in the restaurant but they make the most of what they have. The place was clean and tidy and tables were all laid out professionally. Service was pleasant and faultless and the food was surprisingly good. As it was lunchtime we had the fixed price menu (not available at night) and I was pleasantly surprised how reasonably priced it was at £8.10 for 2 courses. Starters and main courses were generous, well presented and tasty, coming with 3 sorts of veg. I think it would be unfair to mark the place down because of its location and outward appearance - for the price the food was excellent and we had an enjoyable time out with friends.

I came here to the restaurant for a meal with a friend not knowing what to expect, except that it was a convenient meeting place for us being so close to the station. You don't really notice it at first as the frontage is quite small, and the paint outside possibly a bit tired, but step inside and you are treated with courtesy, and find yourself in a tiny cosy bar. We had booked a table for 2 and asked for the fixed price menu (a main course for £6.95), and we chose our food while sitting in the bar. When the food was ready we were taken through to the restaurant; immaculately clean and really charming. The service was fantastic and we didn't have to wait long at all. The vegetables came in silver service with a lovely selection and every need was attended to. The waiter was so polite it was a real treat from the slapdash service some places give you and although it was almost a bit old fashioned it was a lovely experience and the food was fantastic. I had the trout, a huge one grilled to perfection, and my friend had the Moroccan spicy chick pea casserole. We then had coffee. If this is just the fixed price menu (under £10 each for both of us) the A la carte menu must be amazing.It made our time together extra special. I don't know what the hotel is like to stay in, it looked old but clean, and the toilet was very clean, but if their customer service is anything to go by it should be good. Thank you Carlton Hotel.

Thanks to the staff another great mouthwatering meal, soup excellent, beef superb sweets delicious , table for 20 and no complaints well done see you in November!!

We didn't check this out online because it was booked by our group organizer, other wise we wouldn't touch it with a barge pole! The building its self has flaking paint all over.. Dead plants in window boxes. The bar area looks like something out of only fools and horses but shabbier. The dining room looks OK with white table cloths but that's just a smoke screen. Before we sat down for dinner we were asked to confirm our orders and how we wanted our steaks cooked. Ten minutes later they came back to the bar and asked us again. There was total confusion when they finally brought the mains, when they did get it right every ones main was sitting in front of them for 15 minutes before they brought out the over cooked veg which was dished out one at a time. Only problem was I never had my main. They carried on serving the veg for the next 20 minutes before they asked me what I had ordered? It was the fillet steak Rossini Medium Rare. 20 mins later when everyone had nearly finished their food, mine came out and it was WELL DONE! Completely dry as old boots and ruined. The so called 'Pastry disc that was meant to be on top was a greasy bit of fried bread that tasted like it had been cooked a week before and then warmed up. The owner asked if everything was OK and I said it was over cooked. He then just waled away. He then didn't even offer another steak or a refund. And considering it was £18.95 I felt like I had been mugged. My wife had the same, hers was over cooked and she left half of her meal and certainly didn't touch the greasy disc. Because we were at a reunion get together we didn't want to cause an atmosphere, otherwise we would have refused to pay. There are some good points: There is a Pizza restaurant next door and a bookmakers next to that, plus a pub opposite. So if this is what you are looking for then I suggest you sleep in your car, because our friends who stayed there said it's pretty dire. How they get away with charging those prices I will never know.

I was surprised to find something so well rated and at such a reasonable price! We paid around 50 pounds through booking.com which is great when you add in the 15 pound referral fee! We were in rugby for a wedding and the Carlton was great for that with its 24 hour access as we didn't know what time we would be getting in. We stayed in room 20 and it was a lovely room, definitely impressed my partner when she first walked In. Unfortunately there is some where and tear starting to show in the room... A rip in the make up chair, some flakey paint and bits and bobs... But nothing I would make a fuss about regarding the price. I think the only issue we had was no one told us when breakfast was and when I woke up and looked in the rooms booklet it said we had missed it when in fact it was still be served so we ended up getting up a little slower and going to the bacco lounge. Me encanta este sitio para uno de mis almuerzos de navidad. Mi amigo y yo nunca. La comida era excelente, como siempre. Me gusta tener al menos una comida tradicional de navidad y este lugar ofrece la experiencia. Sin duda volveremos en 2017.

No pude entrar a probar la comida. Después de oír una serie de informes de este restaurante, decidí este era el lugar para llevar a mi amigo que estaba de visita en Rugby, pero cuando intenté reservar, me dijeron que tendría que salir de mi silla y caminar. Tuve que repetir tres veces que no puedo salir de mi silla. No tienen un aseo accesible, de modo que los huéspedes con discapacidades habría de tener una comida muy seca o riesgo de tener un accidente.

A la llegada, como decepcionado que había reservado una habitación doble superior para mí y trabajo colega. La señora nos dijo que ella sólo tenía una habitación doble superior y fue llevado y todo lo que pudo ofrecer es una habitación doble. Me enseñó mi documentación y desapareció alrededor de 10 minutos para ver si podían encontrar su documentación. Cuando la señora regresar me dijo que podía ofrecer dos habitaciones individuales. Al mirar las habitaciones individuales estaban bien, pero lejos de los otros. Entonces me pregunté si podíamos tener la habitación doble y la habitación individual al lado de la otra. De nuevo, la señora desapareció y su jefe, que dijo "sí", ya que era su culpa por una doble reserva la habitación que había reservado. La señora pidió disculpas por la confusión.

Thank you for making our occasion special with such a lovely 3 course dinner which we all felt was reasonably priced. Silver service was done very nicely and the humour of the waitress added to the occasion. We asked for a few menu changes which were accommodated without any fuss which made us all happy. Well done! Useful to be directed to the free traders carpark very close to.

I and two retired colleagues had lunch at this hotel on 16.08.16 and we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food and the amazing value. Also the service was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

Since hotel restaurants are often just "average", we were surprised to find this lovely formal dining area in our hotel. We had dinner and breakfast and enjoyed both. Dinner choices of mushroom and Stilton bruschetta, beef medallions and salmon were all excellent. (Did not care for the Devilled Whitebait so much as a matter of taste.) Breakfast was lovely also.

We stay here for 5 days when we were house huntingThe first room that put us in was over in the court yard it wasn't a nice room,the TV was hanging off the wall and the WiFi didn't work,this was important to us as estate agents weren't sending us info and the toilet seat wouldn't stay up so it hit you in back when you sat down and the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor, we went to reception and the young lady was very helpful and changed our roomThis room was a lot better, the room was bigger and so was the bathroom, unfortunately the carpet was stained around the bed area, This hotel really needs updating and a few bob spent on it,it could be really good We had breakfast 3 days and although cooked well, the cold food was just on a small table to the side,jars of cereal that must just be topped up daily,yogurts just left on the table not chilled,it's disappointing for £ 7 each,wetherspoon is just up the road maybe better to get it there, Parking is a bit hit and miss, they only have a small car park so if you arrive back after about 4.30 you can't get in and have to park up on the street or up the side road in the tile shops car parkCan't fault the staff,everyone we met was friendly and helpful, This is an ok hotel for a nights stop over but really needs to be refurbished, everything is dated and tatty

We were staying at the hotel so thought it would be best to eat in, the food was delicious and reasonably priced. the manager was very attentive as were the staff.The décor is lovely and the atmosphere and ambience was on point.We will most definitely be coming back to stay and dine and we will be bringing friends.

I stayed here for 3 nights for business purposes. First impressions were great as it looked like quaint little hotel. The guy that was at reception (sorry I didn't get his name) was brilliant because he was very welcoming and friendly and even moved his car so I could park my works van in the car park due to us having tools in the van.(Just a little side note that the car park is small for about 5 cars but there is alternative free parking 1 minutes walk across the road)The reception was very nicely decorated and so was the room I stayed in (15) but the bathroom could maybe do to have an upgrade? It was however very clean and tidy.We ate in the restaurant 2 out of the 3 nights we were there and although it was very nice and very good service, I felt that there could have been more dishes to choose from and maybe more choice in the bar too like different flavours of cider.I had a great stay here and recommend this hotel!

My friend and I considered going here or to another establishment, and chose the other one eventually, only to discover it had closed down! As the Carlton was nearby we decided to go there instead but as we stepped in a lady asked us if we'd booked a table, which surprised us and which of course, we hadn't.She was ok about it and went off to see if the chef was happy about it, which he was, mainly it seemed because two other people had booked. Now the restaurant is quite a good size and deserted apart from the four of us but apparently some days it can be quite busy at lunchtime. At the end of the meal, the lady,, who seemed to be the receptionist and waitress told me that the new owner has decreed that if there are no lunchtime bookings they should close, which is why it is important to pre-book. Maybe it would be handy to put this on their website?However, to the food itself. It is a very reasonable £6.95 for a main course at lunchtime and both of us chose a vegetarian option (there were two) after I had asked for "fish of the day" only to be told it hadn't been delivered yet, so obviously more aimed at the evening service. Both of us were happy with our choices, served with new potatoes, and plenty of fresh veg including a leek gratin. Altogether, with a glass of wine each, the bill was £10 a head.It's the little touches which made it feel a bit special - nice cloth tablecloth and napkins, fresh flowers on the table and separate service of the vegetables. The waitress was friendly and efficient and the food was tasty and good value. I would definitely think about returning in the evening sometime, but please be aware that parking can be a bit of a problem - and don't forget to book!.Oh yes and they do have a dress code - no jeans or trainers.

We and a small group of friends visit The Carlton on a fairly regular basis. The quality of food and service has always been of a high quality and even though the ownership of the Carlton has changed; the quality and service remain the same!!!

As frequent diners at this hotel restaurant we recently visited for the first time after a change of owner. We are pleased to say that the new owner has retained the existing staff and particularly the Chef therefore the standard of food and friendly service has continued. There is a slight variation in the menu which would be expected but generally the new owner can be congratulated on keeping the restaurant one of the best in Rugby. Would highly recommend this restaurant as in the past but advise that booking is advisable.

We have eaten here on a number of previous occasions. However the ownership has recently changed. The standard of food and service is still as good as it ever was. The chef we understand has been retained, so guaranteed good food!!! YIPPIE !!!!!!!!!!!!

My Wife and I lunched at the Carlton to enjoy Jaspal and Sukhi's service of many years prior to their well earned retirement. The standard of service and food presentation is and has always been of the highest standard. Of all the years we have visited there has never been any cause for complaint. Staff are always efficient and friendly and whilst we are sorry to see them finally retire we wish them every enjoyment in their retirement. We anticipate that the new owners will provide an excellent standard and hope to visit again soon. The hotel/restaurant is highly recommended.

Party of 17 celebrated my mum's 80th birthday here today. Excellent efficient friendly service once again from Jaspal, Sukhi and their staff.

Easy access from station, short walk from town, lots of eateries nearby. I recommend Dilruba. Good sized room, comfy bed, good shower. Good choice at breakfast. Car parking, if you arrive early. I find this preferable to motels, it has character and atmosphere, it's my first choice if I want to stay in Rugby for a couple of nights.

Great meal! Really enjoyed it, the staff are all really friendly, I would defiantly recommend the Carlton great value for money!

We were a party of 5 and booked for 7pm on a Saturday night. On arrival we were ushered into the small bar which was quite busy but managed to find somewhere to sit. Actually getting a drink took some time and then we were given menus to look at. It doesn't seem that going directly into the dining room is an option. We gave our orders and it was an hour before we went in to eat.The food was in general good, although my crispy duck breast was seriously overcooked and dry. The rest was fine and good value.I have to say that service was not what I would call friendly (with the exception of one young waitress). Having just come back from a holiday in the USA the absence of a smile was more noticeable. If you don't mind having to have a drink and a bit of a wait to eat then you might enjoy this more than we did.

As usual is not a title that people normally use when reviewing restaurants but it is apt in this case because as usual our latest trip here was excellent for food ambience service and a feeling of value for money.Please try it.

We visited the Carlton's restaurant again to celebrate my Nan's Birthday. All the staff were very welcoming and table decorations really added the special touch.All the food was clearly cooked to a high standard, the rib eye and peppercorn sauce was to die for! And all was served hot which is a real bonus!The selection of veg was great and silver service meant you could have exactly the amount you wanted of each. The dessert trolley was superb with a large selection of varied homemade desserts, warm and cold. Filter coffee really finished the afternoon off in a great way, no doubt we shall be returning very soon!

Was in Rugby during the Rugby World Cup and went to this supposedly up-market restaurant. The food was laughable - poor quality microwave fare. The snooty local clientele looked down their noses at us whilst kidding themselves that they were eating sophisticated cuisine. The restaurant had a no jeans policy which happily was being flouted by some Rugby fans. The service was amateurish, though in fairness to the wait staff I don't think there was anyone over twenty years old working there that night, and they did try to help out where possible and were generally polite and pleasant. There was, however, certainly no sign of any management. Or fresh food for that matter, though it did smell as though the curry house next door was cooking up something decent (or at least cooking something, rather than using a microwave...). The prices were ridiculous, I could have bought about 25 ready meals (for that is what we ate) for about this price. Finally, I asked for a dessert wine and they didn't know what one was. Fair enough in the sticks perhaps, but they didn't even answer my question until I chased them up on it! Just awful. Avoid.

We were a party of eight and we had the three course menu, the food was very good, arrived promptly and was hot and very well cooked. The service was very good, there was a mix up with one of the meals but this was rectified within a few minutes. I would definitely go back if in the area again. Very good value for money

The Carlton continues to offer a consistently high standard. The menu while varied is not particularly novel but it attracts a regular customer base. You know what you are getting but are never disappointed. Very good value for money. Well done.

Started with drinks in the bar at the front of hotel (small pleasant bar). The restaurant at the rear is dated although the food reasonably fresh & quality ingredients (good honest home made food).

Booked a table at The Carlton for me and my friends and everything was superb! As soon as we walked in we were greeted with lovely cheerful staff who offered to take our coats and asked us if we wanted any drinks. We were all able to have a nice chat whilst our food was being prepared. When we went through to the restaurant once again our chairs were pulled out for us and napkins unfolded, truly made me feel special. The starters were excellent! Soon came the mains, also outstanding, the plates were hot which meant my food didn't get cold and as agreed by all my friends everything was amazingly flavoursome! Desserts were all homemade and this made them all the better! With a large variety to choose from! Overall me and my friends greatly enjoyed our time and we would definitely recommend the restaurant to everyone! Absolutely wonderful!!!

Visited couple of weeks ago with my partner. We were a bit disappointed with the food - my fish was tasteless, dry and my boyfriend had similar experience with his pork. Positives - very nice staff.

Booked the party menu for 15 of us to celebrate my wife's birthday. The menu sounded great but we were informed to dress up and no mobiles on. The starters were very good as were the desserts. The main courses however were a disappointment it was bland and Roast of the day had no roast potatoes? My fish was Sea bass which was tasteless. We all were a bit underwhelmed.

June 13th 2015. The whole experience was thoroughly enjoyed by us and our guests who commented on the excellent food and the attention to detail which made this a memorable evening. Thank you.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff at the Carlton for a lovely evening last night. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the food was delicious and the service was faultless. The menu had veriety and was very well priced for the quality we received. We had our Wedding Breakfast here on the 16th May and without exception all our guests said it was the best meal they had eaten in along time. The service, the quality of the food, and attention to detail was faultless.We would certainly have no doubts about recommending The Carlton to anyone.

An excellent meal so beautifully served. It was a pleasure to eat here. Our friends, who had arranged the outing, were equally impressed. We will have to go again.

We visited this restaurant when family friends came to visit, a group of 7 and very well catered for.Very helpful and friendly staff in a pleasant atmosphere made for a very enjoyable evening.

This restaurant is part of the hotel with the same name. I did not feel like going out and decided to try the restaurant. The menu offers a nice variety of dishes. The ones that I picked were nicely presented. The only negative was that my pork medaillons were overcooked where they should have been slightly rosé. The other thing that nobody asked me how it was. Not even when they cleared my plate. Maybe they are very confident their kitchen is flawless, I think it's common courtesy. No chance at coffee; the machine was broken. All in all a positive experience.

As regular weekly customers over many years we cannot speak to highly of the service provided at The Carlton Restaurant. We have always enjoyed our meals as there is always a wide choice on the lunch menu which is changed on a regular basis and credit to the management and all their staff we can honestly say we have never once had a bad meal In addition we shall always be most grateful to them all for the meals and service provided for our special occasions i.e Birthdays etc and especially our Diamond Wedding .celebration.

I don't need to say much as the fact the vast majority of reviews are excellent or very good says what you need to know. But whilst I had an excellent stay, I also had a superb meal (and have EVERY time I have eaten here).In summary my experience on Sat evening:*Excellent service, very polite, professional, friendly staff.*Very approachable, welcoming owner.*Efficient, fast food waiting time.*Food was absolutely SPOT ON!*Everything cooked to perfection.*You can really tell the difference in quality between here and the microwaved 'chain pubs/restaurants'.I would say all in all the joint best steak I've ever had. Quigley's 'on the rocks' was equally satisfying. I would recommend The Carlton to anyone who is looking for real, high quality food and service at very reasonable prices.Will be back again soon.

We are regulars at the CALTON HOTEL because the food is constantly good with a frequent change of menus. We and our friends usually go for lunch and like to sit around the only round table. The service is good and the prices are excellent value. On street parking is available if required

Again our small group thoroughly enjoyed our lunch booking at this restaurant. The menu choice was varied and was quickly served freshly cooked. Service as always was friendly and attentive. Would recommend this to not only residents but visitors to Rugby. Advise booking in advance. Thanks again to Management and staff we look forward to future visits.

I had a delicious (to die for) meal in the restaurant on 27 January 2015 at a most reasonable price plus extra sauce readily available. Obviously made from scratch. Perfect service throughout. Comfortable single bedroom with all facilities that I required. Lovely English breakfast with a perfectly fried egg. Friendly, efficient service and I would certainly return.

Visited the Carlton Hotel on two occasions in December for pre-booked Christmas lunches. Again the food was excellent with a surprising choice of christmas fayre menu selection. Service was efficient and friendly and of the accustomed standard. I have made previous reviews of the restaurant all of the same complimentary standard. Highly recommend the restaurant for both lunch and evening dinner.

My wife and I booked a restaurant meal for two. No complaints for my wife's meal. However my main course of Venison was inedible due to the meat being so sinuous it was impossible to cut through. The chief cooked the meat perfectly, and I have no complaints with his abilities. The management also agreed that the cut of meat was not up to par !My problem is that given I had an unacceptable meal there was no offer of recompense, not even a free cup of coffee. I do not expect something for nothing, yet the Carlton Hotel insists on full payment even for inedible fare.

This is an excellent traditional 'sliver service' restaurant with an excellent nenu of freshly prepared food and prompt, polite and friendly service. A really nice small bar is excellent for a pre-dinner drink, a place to meet up. To look after such a big party is not easy, however they handled it well. There were plenty of vegetables to go around. Highly recommend for a romantic meal for two or a group.

Group booking for a friends birthday celebration. Excellent menu choice which was served freshly prepared and well presented. Nice touch that friend had a birthday card and table decorations to add to the occasion. Always enjoy our meals here and would recommend the restaurant for lunch or dinner.

In my opinion, when dining out, this is the best value for money food in the Rugby area. My wife and I tend to dine at lunch-times when the price of a guormet quality 3 course meal, with meat and four veg. is under £10 (Prix Fixe). Evening meals are dearer but are still good value for money. Their web-site shows choice of meals, which are varied and the menu is changed at regular intervals. The vegetables are fresh and not from the freezer, with wonderful added flavours in the form of various sauces. Meat is supplied from a local quality butcher and is always cooked to perfection.Hotel residents need not bother to 'dine-out' as eating anywhere else locally, would in my opinion, be a waste of time. Clean linen table cloths, fresh table flowers, immaculate crockery and comfortable seating all add to the 'finishing touches' which Jaspal and Suki are pleased to provide.I am surprised that this establishment is not packed-out as both I and acquaintances cannot speak too highly of food and service. We go as often as we can and take our visitors there to sample the fare - all are delighted. Come on, Towns-folk of Rugby - see what you're missing!The only small problem is in location, as although The Carlton has a small car-park with awkward access, one may have to park on the street opposite, which uses paking meters until early evening. Still, paying an extra couple of pounds for parking is more than made up for by what one pays for a meal of this quality. No wonder The Carlton has such a high Tripadvisor rating and this is thoroughly deserved.

Not been for a long time, was not disappointed, the food, service and surroundings were excellent, I was celebrating my birthday and the card and table decorations were an extra treat, which was a nice touch.I am glad Jasper and his team have survived the economic crisis, as you can always guarantee a great night out at The Carlton, and never fails on quality, quantity, service and value for money.Look forward to our next visit

My wife grew up in Rugby, but has been living in Canada since adulthood. Our entire family were in Rugby for the unforunate circumstance of my wife's mother's passing. Gotta eat though. When her cousins came into town we decided to go out for dinner. My wife suggested The Carlton, because they did good food and served in the genuine English way. What is "the genuine English way"? It seems her sons (my sons too) knew, but I didn't. "Three veg's served at the table" shortly after your entree order arrives. So, that's it. Nice touch though.Between the 8 of us, we had a variety of entrees, from chicken to beef to fish. I had the trout with a nicely done rice pilaf, and was happy to discover that it was not over cooked, which is so easy to do with trout. One of our party had a medium rare ribeye with fries, and it was also cooked and rested properly. I didn't hear any complaints from anyone. But let me tell you about the 3 veg's: cauliflaur gratin, broccoli, glazed carrots. It all arrives in big bowls, from which a person uses and big fork and spoon to put them on your plate. Genuine English Style.

I stayed here when I was in Rugby for an interview. The choice of food was excellent and it was very nice quality and well presented. I can also thoroughly recommend the hotel. My room was lovely, very clean and well presented. Extremely good value for money.

Had a lunch for two and it was excellent. The cleanliness, level of service and quality of food is very high and the prices? I think it was £7.85 for two courses. That really is good value. The car park at the back is tight.

We took my Mum for her birthday back in March ,fantastic service ,table was decorated for the occasion ,attention to detail was brilliant,lovely food as always, just read the other reviews to find out more Just go and you wont be disapointed

Thank you to all the staff at the Carlton Hotel for making my birthday lunch very special on Sunday - especially for the Birthday Card and the decorations on the table!!. Lovely freshly cooked food and great service at a very resonable price. A really nice place for a family meal.My two little grandaughters, who were very nervous at eating in a 'posh place' were made to feel very welcome by everyone, (and I think made a couple of the other diners smile too.)We'll be back!!

I was actually here on business. Sometimes travelling alone can be a bit, "hit and miss"' when it comes to dining but this was definitely a hit. I had checked the menu in my room. It looked good and varied, quite classy and not hugely expensive. When I entered the restaurant, it was set out very tastefully and the gentle ambience was very relaxing. The staff were very friendly and extremely pleasant. I know from experience that the skill and demeanour necessary to quickly make someone feel comfortable and at home is not very common but these people had it. The food was excellent and the whole experience a real pleasure. I would highly recommend this restaurant whether it's for business or pleasure. They seem to have it, "just right".And for overnight, the room was good too.

It had been a time since visiting the "Carlton Hotel Restaurant. What a pleasure to find the standard of service and quality of for food to an excellent standard, I would rate this restaurant one of the best in the area.

My party of 4 ladies ate at the Carlton Hotel on Thursday evening. We all really enjoyed our well presented and tasty food, especially the unusual selction of vegetables served with the main course (so much nicer than the normal peas and caul at many restaurants.The tables were beustiful set and clean and the service was good, with 2 attentive but not pushy staff.The only downside I could remark on, is that the wide range choices of pudding were read out to us, rather than left on a small card / blackboard. I think that the owners are 'missing a trick' here as had we been left for a few minutes we probably would have persauded each other to have a pudding.All in all a very enjoyable evening, and I will certainly book again.

We have dined at the Carlton restaurant many times over a long period of years,sometimes for special events with15-20 of the family ,sometimes a 4 with friends and as last week just my wife and i. once again we were impressed by the friendliness of the staff from the moment we arrived.the meal was very enjoyable and of the standard we have come to expect of this restaurant over the years. After the meal we sat and finished our wine ,two cups of coffee,then paid the bill which we considered was very reasonable for another very enjoyable evening at one of our favourite restaurants. We ate at this restaurant on Saturday evening and once again it was faultless. The food was excellent and the staff were courteous and efficient. We both had steak which was cooked to perfection and was washed down with a perfectly served bottle of red wine.The portions are very generous and great value especially with silver service waitressing. And to finish we could not resist the temptation of the sweet trolley, which included various home made delicacies. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Whilst trying to organise a birthday meal for my father, he dropped in the conversation that he would prefer to go to the Carlton, - this was late on a Wednesday evening! I sent them an email by the website and they rang me before 10 the next morning. They managed to fit us in, a table of 9 on the Saturday. We have been a few times before and have always had lovely meals. This was no exception, my brothers who had not been, were very impressed. Good selection of dishes from venison and duck to steak and chicken curry, with a vegetarian option too. The sweet trolley always goes down well, with a wide choice.The meals are excellent value for the quantity and quality of food. Most importantly my father loved the evening. A nice touch is the Carlton had asked me if was a special occasion and gave my father a birthday card with his age on - a nice touch which he really appreciated.

Well, I've had some 'interesting' responses to asking about vegan dining requirements, but this one has to take the biscuit! Having e-mailed the Carlton on Thursday morning directly, I thought I'd just check on the following Monday evening (4.5 days later) whether nor not they'd received my enquiry, requesting some suggestions for a lovely 3-course vegan fine-dining meal for my fiancée and I.Oh dear! I just spoke with a man - presumably Jaspal - who confirmed that he remembered seeing my e-mail (which had received no response) and continued to suggest that they would look at it and "hopefully" we may get a response.... "Hopefully"?!?! What kind of customer service is that? A fine dining restaurant that can't be bothered to cater for those with dietary requirements. The most insulting comment he made was how catering for vegans was "difficult"!!ATROCIOUS!.... And here was I, thinking this place might be worth trying. With a response and an attitude like that, I'll definitely not be going.,... ever! What kind of "freezer to microwave" muppets are they employing there who can't come up with something without animal content in a meal?! It's not difficult and you've now just lost your precious "no 'terrible' comments on TripAdvisor' claim! A fine dining restaurant ought to have professionally-trained chefs who would not have any problem with catering for any dietary requirements. I'm disgusted with the man I spoke with just now (Monday 27th January 2014 at 5.10pm). I'm sure he'll remember who I am!

I work in the catering industry and as time goes by I am finding it increasingly difficult to find quality food. I went to Carlton with some friends that live locally who were raving about the standard of food and the value considering the menu, service and setting.Having eaten in many fine dining establishments near and far I was not disappointed one iota, in fact It was excellent. The menu is varied, seasonal and exquisitely delivered, and the staff are warm and friendly. 5 stars all round. Thank You.

I visited the Carlton a couple of weeks ago for a work Christmas do. This was my first time there and it won’t be my last! The decor was modern but there was still a cosy feel and the service was excellent. I had the mushroom bruschetta to start which was full of flavour, the beef diane for my main that came with a choice of fresh vegetables, one of which was the leek mornay that I've never had before but it was delicious! What was really nice to see at the Carlton was that they still use classic touches that most restaurants have lost, such as silver service and a petit four tray. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, especially me as I have booked to come back again in February for my parent’s anniversary!

I am use to high standards when it comes to enjoying food in quality restaurants in London. I rarely find great restaurants outside of London but the Carlton is a genuine gem! I visited the area over Christmas to see friends who brought me here.... everything from the friendly welcome through to the wide choice of very tasty dishes available help make this place a treat. This restaurant would not be out of place in central London however a lot more affordable. The excellent silver service element also make this restaurant stand out! I would not hesitate to recommend the Carlton for any occasion! SS, London

When you read reviews that are so good you begin to wonder, but the meals we had were absolutely faultless. Hot food on warm plates, excellent quality service by well trained attentive staff. Our friends & hosts made an excellent choice of location for the meal.

I visited the Carlton Hotel Restaurant last week for dinner and was thoroughly impressed. The staff were very friendly and welcoming throughout the visit and the atmosphere in the bar and restaurant was cosy and relaxed. The food was excellent – everything was freshly cooked with plenty of fresh vegetables with our mains. Even the desserts are home-made. I would definitely recommend a visit soon!

what can I say - we have been visiting The Carlton for 25 years+ but have never been less than delighted every visit - many of our friends + family are now fans of The Carlton it has a friendly but professional atmosphere with great attention to detail we have had lunch, Dinner + Sunday Lunch - we would recommend the Carlton to anybody - glad to see the return of the seafood pancake !!

I do not come here often but when I do, the restaurant surely makes it a memorable visit. I have been coming here for my Christmas meals from work and with friends. The food was always tasty and the atmosphere of the restaurant is excellent. Great for Sunday lunches.

the restaurant is small and cosy with a warm atmosphere. now the children have left home we are going out and trying different places in the area each week. this is the best yet so we have been back more than once. service is always excellent even though we have not seen the same staff twice just shows the consistently high standard of the staff selected. great selection of vegetables, and plenty of them. the best dish i had was the duck with orange and ginger sauce, delicious. no complaints about other choices available either.pleased the staff staff know the history of the building which is very interesting to us as Rugby born and bred. i would recommend this very highly and we will be back as often as possible. Very well done to all the staff.

Re-visited The Carlton this evening, have been going there for about 20 years, and it is as good as ever. Great value, freshly cooked food, tasty & great service, comfortable, easy atmosphere, absolutely recommend it. We are going to make a point of going more often!

Recommended to this hotel for afternoon lunch on arrival shown to lounge had drinks & given menu. £9.95 for 3 courses not substancial but excellent food.Would recommend & accomodation looks good too.

This restaurant was my sister’s choice and what a good choice it was for the final meal of our holiday in Warwickshire. We had a drink in the bar while we chose what to eat and then we were shown to our table in the nicely decorated restaurant. The white table cloths made me glad the younger members of the family were at home in bed. I had the baked brie to start which was ripe and wonderfully soft and oozy. My main course of duck with orange and ginger sauce was accompanied by a choice of vegetables, leeks in cheese sauce, broccoli and buttered carrots, all served at the table. George enjoyed his pork although he refused most of the vegetables and there was certainly nothing left on anyone’s plate. We had a bottle of rose to accompany the meal. George and I had dessert and Helen and Tony opted to share a cheese board. We decided to walk home in the hope of walking off some of the calories we had consumed. I suspect we will be back at some time in the future.

I have dined at the Carlton Hotel & Restaurant many times and I can recommend it for any function. Food and service is first class and will continue to support the proprietors in the future.All my family are in the same mind, and when it is an anniversary or a birthday, it is always the Carlton.
