Wanted burgers taken off menu so my partner had steak and kidney pudding wasn't nice 1 piece of steak I had Lincolnshire sausage and mash sausages weren't Lincolnshire and left over from breakfast and mash was like smash won't eat there again

It's a Wetherspoons, all you need to know.

Well I ordered the steak and kidney pie! It literally had 1 piece of steak and no visible evidence of Kidney ! So I had to use the dishwasher stained cutlery to cut out my partners kidney and rub it in the gravy. Mmm then I was satisfied. I suppose it was a real pie, but so small it must of been embarrassed.

A big Wetherspoon pub , unfortunately out of cod on a Friday night. Service was fast but forgot one order and missed peri peri sauce off another. Quickly rectified. Very noisy and almost full.

Inexpensive food and drinks, no need for the bar you can get it delivered to your table via ap, even absent friends can buy you a drink! And you even get your steps in with a walk to the wetherspoons toilet situated normally in an adjacent post code!

Helpful and pleasant staff despite being very busy. Enjoyed mixed grill. Can park on roadside after 6pm unlimited. No car park. Enjoyed food.

We went Friday evening, and yes it was busy, but the staff were so rude and the food so bad, they actually refunded our full bill

It's a wetherspoons, so pretty standard. The staff were friendly and attentive, so no complaints there. Tables were cleared promptly so 👍

My family went here for dinner, The staff were great and we enjoyed ourselves. However, our food was not enjoyable in the slightest. My fiancé and I had the vegan beyond burger. Our 4 year old was feeling absolutely fine before eating here but after he had a margarita pizza and apple juice he complained of an upset stomach. On the way home he went pale in the face and projectile vomited all over the car and again at home. I can’t say for sure if it was the pizza or the apple juice that has made him unwell. But it was definitely something from this particular Whetherspoons.

Had a visit to Oakham for the first time. Worst day to choose 2nd Jan rain and floods everywhere. Looking for somewhere near by to take shelter and this was the place we chose. Lovely and warm, nice atmosphere and food hit the spot.

Very understaffed so drinks orders were very slow and food orders even slower. The staff who were in were nice, but at Christmas you would think they would put more staff on. The food was not good - one person received cold meat, I had my initial order cancelled as they didn’t have the food available and my replacement order was clearly just low quality frozen food (anaemic peas and watery scampi). The food was not priced to reflect this.

This is actually a really lovely Weatherspoons. Decorated beautifully inside and out, even the ladies' toilets, they are weirdly stunning! Food is great, nice atmosphere. Couldn't ask for more really from a spoons 👍

Another good breakfast, the only downside was a group of very noisy men who were drinking at 10am. tHey were very loud which was off putting. All food was hot which is great.

Have not been in the pub for quite a long time but popped in as it was half way between the Grainstore and the Wheatsheaf (ish). Can’t believe the prices…Unbelievabubble . So much so had a cheeky shot on top of the Guinness. Surroundings aren’t great but who cares if you in a group and want to save money

Absolutely awful! Always thought that you knew what you were getting with a ‘spoons but this really let the chain down. After having to clean our own filthy table, it didn’t get much better! Food was missing multiple ingredients. We ordered burgers with bacon, cheese etc but it came with literally just a skinny takeaway style burger. The bun tasted like it had been next to cleaning products. Then to top it off, there was a piece of plastic wrapper in the burger! When we went to show someone behind the bar, they tried to say that it was a bit of onion peel and didn’t even apologise. There was no way it was an onion peel as (without going into too many gross details), you couldn’t chew it and it was a very different colour and texture! Very disappointed and will not be revisit nor recommending this pub.

Ate here twice when in area fir a week. Used spoons app both times and drinks service very slow. Food was good, well presented and decent compared to some spoons. Overall a nice spoons with good standard of food. Sorry but marked down for speed only. Otherwise would have been higher.

The Best and cleanest Wetherspoons ...

visited August 2023. 45 minute wait for food, curry was pretty Grimm, even by wetherspoons standards. tables not cleared for 20 minutes after arriving.. they need more floorwalkers on a mid week evening. I counted 1 and a manageress.

One hour wait for burger that looked like it took two minutes to make. Terrible service took order and didn’t let us know it was an hour wait. Pub wasn’t even that busy. Curry was nice think only put half portion of rice with it. Second bad experience at this outlet. Sorry but it’s going on the banned list. Next time we eating at the butter cross in Oakham which is what Wetherspoons used to be. Sorry bye bye

There jd wetherspoons has a better menu than leicester. I had something new here. The food was delicious.

Often use this Wetherspoon when in and around Rutland. Always use the Wetherspoon App to order. Drinks and meals delivered quickly, good value as always. But very noisy on a Friday night !

A great breakfast before the cricket at Oakham School

I am an habitual Wetherspoons customer. This outlet has a really good building on a nice road in a very pleasant town. I had a Wetherspoons standard breakfast; so far nothing unusual. However, when I retuned for a lunchtime pint staff let the team down through lack of preparation. There were no real ales at all available and there was no fish and chips.

No music playing. Very quiet for a Sunday lunch. Eggs were like rubber, tasteless Bacon and overall a disappointing meal. Best thing was the refillable Lattes. Service was fast enough.

Good curry and ham, egg and chips.

We went for our 25th anniversary and my wife's lamb was very undercooked and they were very good at replacing the whole meal. Unfortunately, by the time it arrived, I'd already finished and realised that I hadn't been given the fried egg (we both had large mixed grill). The staff were attentive and friendly enough though.

Great quality food at a good price. The nicest of coffees. Exemplary service from the smashing staff. A tip top place and it was a pleasure to visit👍😍👍

I popped in here for lunch with my son. This is the cheapest place in oakham for drinks. And this makes the place very popular and busy. The food we had was good although a little basic but for what we wanted at the time was perfect. The deals of drinks with food are crazy. So in essence it's a really good bet if your budget is limited.

Rubbish got order wrong chef needs to be sacked food burnt all time breakfast sucks

drove half an hour to get here and payed £4 for about 10 chips, could get more at McDonalds. Doesn’t help that the plate was dirty either, awful experience.

Only popped in for a coffee which is always good free top ups which is always a bargain and I have to say the toilets are impressive great decor very clean 5 stars

Location was great , surroundings where fine as we sat outside , but my main issue was wait times were unbelievable for a chain pub which prides itself on cheap affordable fast food I was shocked , the pub itself not really busy but still had to wait exactly 1 hour for a chicken burger , and a bowl of undercooked chips which resembled mash potato , I have eaten here before and its been fine but this was extraordinary rubbish , and makes me question eating here again .

Clean and welcoming environment, food was good value for money. Toilets upstairs were beautifully decorated and very clean. Love that Wetherspoons offer their pubs as a safe space.

Not the best spoons… dont bother using the online ordering service for drinks. We stayed locally for a weekend away and on both days i ordered drinks online and after waiting 20 minutes both times i had to go to the bar to find out where our drinks were. On the second day sat in the lovely beer garden (the only reason we give 2 stars) there was a family that ordered food and it looked lovely so we decided to come back in the evening for food. I had a large 6oz burger. I chose this because the 3oz mentioned it came with SMALL chips. I wanted something more substantial. I can honestly say I’ve had larger burgers from McDonald’s! It was patheticly small and the chips were child portion sized. My mum ordered a steak medium. It was very well done and looked like leather! Dad had a mixed grill and the meat was that over cooked he couldn’t actually tell which meat was which apart from the “lincolnshire” sausage. We come from lincolnshire and i can assure you these sausages have never seen lincolnshire!!! The peas were like bullets and overall not a great dining experience. I wouldnt even say it was value for money because even at McDonald’s i can get a burger with chips and a drink for less than £7 and the portions are bigger…

Oakham Pub Crawl (23-03-23) Our second Pub and this place was big with outdoor seating and a big bar, server quite quick for a whetherspoons Pub, gor a high stool table and a nice pint of Doom bar, not very busy and the toilets were a long walk upstairs, usual kind of atmosphere and cheap beer and no music.

This was the 2nd time my partner and I visited for lunch. We found a seat, I went up and ordered, but when the meals arrived both of our portions of chips were stone cold, and the knife for my partners meal was broken. So we had to ask both for a new knife and another fresh and hot portion of chips for us both, which by the time we had eaten  the meat part of our meals the chips still hadn't arrived. We had plans so couldn't wait any longer so had to leave still feeling hungry and very disappointed. The state of the place was very unhygienic due to lots of thick dust on the dado rails, all over the floor and under the tables. There was also cobwebs everywhere. Will not be going there ever again!

Beer prices up with no sign of Budget bonus but plenty of value choices remain. That's in food n drinks. Handy high street location, too, and decent staff.

Better than most Wetherspoons, nicely laid out and a good atmosphere. And being a Wetherspoons it's much better value than most places to eat in Oakham.

Terrible food! Greasy, my toppings on my pizza were falling off!! To expensive horrible food. They said they had no ketchup they straight lied to our face the table opposite had a big bottle off it. I do not advise anyone to get a meal there. I expect better.

I took my children for something to eat here; it was late Thursday afternoon (approx 4.30pm). I needed somewhere close to school and convenient for parking etc. I parked on the road opposite the pub; a great start. We ordered 2 x pepperoni pizzas & 2 cheeseburgers. + additional chips and 4 soft drinks. a £37 spend proved to be a disastrous waste of good money. I ordered on the app from the table which made it relatively straight forward. Our food arrived before the drinks which was a bit annoying as the bar wasn't busy. The quality & quantity of the food was extremely poor; I'd ordered extra chips as the pizza's (£11 each) didn't come with them. The chips I thought were expensive compared to the rest of the menu £4.03 for a bowl. The pizza's were as thin as wrap and the amount of cheese piled on meant we were unable to cut them into manageable slices; the plates were dripping in grease due to the excess. It was a mess and there wasn't much else on the plate aside from grease & cheese. The chips were eaten both pizza's left half eaten. The burgers were dreadful; we'd ordered 6oz instead of the regular 3oz, a very cheap small / thin bap type bun and low quality meat without flavour. The chip count outrageous. We were basically presented with what looked like empty plates with a bit of food to one side. Chip count (I should have taken pics as I know there is a Facebook group where chip count at Wetherspoons is compared)..14 on one plate and 17 on another. This place clearly focuses on the regular boozers and has food as an option although I think we all know there's going to be some disappointment. I went genuinely expecting & hoping it'd be ok; I should have gone with my gut feeling and avoided it in the first place. If you go in with the lowest expectations of quality & quantity then you'll get what you are prepared for. If you go in hoping it'll be good and you'll feel you've had good food and good value then you're going to annoyed with yourself and you'll have wasted money and eaten crap. I'm not anti Wetherspoons and will always consider using them. usually they're situated in a decent location and there'll be space enough to accommodate. If you're thinking about using this place to eat; then be prepared for it to be really poor; you'll not be wrong. My children are not fussy eaters and the menu options for them (although no kids menu) was enough for them. We all came away thinking it was really bad; I couldn't help feeling like a bad Dad taking them for dinner at this place. I'd sooner go into a supermarket and get them a pre packed sandwich than feed them this again

26/2/23 - Sunday evening We three middle aged pescatarian guys from London were up for a funeral in this town. We caught up with our widow friend in this pub for a drink and an evening meal. The pub was quite busy with a mix of families, groups and lone regulars. There was a roaring real fire with wood logs burning away near the entrance. A large family of mixed generations were enjoying sitting on a low table around it. We took a table nearby and using our app started to order our meal, the usual choice but with a few new additions. Our friend arrived and we included his Ghost Ship on our order of three meals with drinks. The drinks, as usual, arrived very quickly and were enjoyed. The real ale was well kept. The choice at the bar was good. The food came shortly thereafter, delivered with a smile, and to the expected good standards. The condiments were collected from the corner nearby. Fish and chips, were good. The beyond burger was excellent (my pescatarian friend is constantly surprised by the taste and quality). My veggie sausages, mash, peas and gravy were quite bland but I expected that so no problem. We had a good chat, another half round for the drinkers. We parted company with our friend and planned our route back to Peterborough's Travelodge on the A1, only half an hour. This pub did the trick as expected. The staff work hard to keep the place clean, including the toilets (above the entrance lobby). The local history interpretation was interesting as are all JDWs.

Cheap and no very hot breakfast

It's what you expect. Cheap and cheerful. Great for older people, late morning or early lunch.

Went for breakfast Sunday morning 5/02/23 but no staff so not doing breakfast.

As an occasional visitor with my husband we use this restaurant to meet up with friends. Not had a problem before but sadly this was not a good experience for any of the four of us Tuesday 7/2/2023. Ordered our meal at the bar, a few minutes later we were approached by one of the floor walkers to say that one of our meals katsu chicken was no longer available as they had run out, Our order was 2 x katsu chicken, 1 sirloin steak and 1 x steak and kidney pudding, the streak and kidney pudding was tiny and a spoonful of peas and mash to accompany was an insult, the chicken katsu was replaced with a fish and chip order. Shortly after, one chicken and one steak and kidney pudding was delivered to the table 20 mins later we asked where the other 2 meals were and told on it's way, another 10mins and still no meal and the explanation was that other people had ordered on the app therefore coming ahead of us who had ordered together in spite of it being their fault that they had not got what I had ordered, not a good excuse our friends had finished their meal well before we rec 'd ours...what's going on Wetherspoons not a good advert. By the way this pub was not busy by any stretch of the imagination. Felt that we had not been dealt with particularly well, maybe Customer Care should be changed to Customer Couldn't Care Less.

We have 4 Wetherspoons much closer than this one but it is so much better it is worth the 40 miles round trip. It is always clean, tables cleared promptly and the food never disappoints. Also street parking outside is usually available.

Now that we are retired and travelling around the UK more, we have become quiet fans of the Wetherspoons brand. It doesn't offer high end, imaginative menus, but it is consistent, very well priced and usually housed in an interesting building. The Captain Noel had certainly been an interesting building at one stage but, with the centre all but stripped away, the outside had more appeal than the interior, which was a wide open space, lacking in intimacy or atmosphere. We have the App on our phones, so ordered from the table - a little sticky from the last customers - and the food was okay, perhaps a little below par from the standard Wetherspoons quality. Service was efficient, if a little brusque. But I think the 'lack' , for us, was the bland atmosphere. True it was a quiet mid week night, but there was no element of different areas or spaces, the opportunity to squirrel away in a booth or a corner, just a little bit of comfort. We won't be returning.

Shame not everything thats on the menu was avsilable especially no mixed grill which is my favourite
