The Canonbury Bar & Restaurant in Islington

The only interactions we had was taking our order and telling me they couldn’t make a certain cocktail because staff behind the bar didn’t know how to. The general service was like a fast food restaurant. The food was obviously pre plated and cold in the middle. I had looked forward to visiting this pub but won’t return.

Great garden. Great food. Good drinks choice. We had a lovely time. Excellent pub highly recommend it. Will definitely return. A really good option for any occasion. Must try it in the evening.

Recently celebrated a friends birthday here and could not have been made more welcome. Whilst we only had drinks this occasion the food being served looked amazing. Great place, plenty of seating, amazing outdoor space - staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend to others and will definitely be coming back as soon as I am back in London

The staff were actively hostile. Difficult to get served at the bar. We'd booked a table for a celebration for 18 people several weeks in advance so they knew we were coming but they clearly didn't want us there and made life as difficult as possible. Cheap and nasty chips and bread. We would have ordered more food but on the basis of the nibbles thought better of it. Such a shame because, as other reviews will tell you it's a wonderful building with a beautiful garden. Unfortunately they just don't know how to do hospitality. We are a group of local tour guides so we won't be recommending this place to our clients.

Spectacular Supper Club! The Canonbury Tavern hosted a fabulous Summer Supper Club this week. The food was outstanding as were the wine pairings. The table was beautifully decorated making for a wonderful atmosphere. We were spoilt by the wonderful staff, in particular Ross, Emma and Eric. Special thanks to the chef Munir and his team. An excellent evening was had by all and we look forward to the next one!

I went along to the Canonbury Summer Supper Club last night with a group of friends. The food was truly amazing and it was was one of the best constructed food menus that I have experienced. Credit must go to the Chef and Manager who delivered the experience, explaining each course. I could describe each and every course, but probably easier to say each course was sensational and cooked to perfection. Will definitely be revisiting!

Lamb Hogget was superb, friendly service. It was the England Switzerland QF and the place was crazy busy. Watching the football whilst eating a meal felt civilised and grown up although noisy !

My son lives around the corner, and this is his “local” so we went for a Sunday dinner/roast and sat out on their lovely garden patio. Despite a football game going on and the place packed with screaming fans, the staff was on point and delivered food and drinks promptly. Was the food incredible…not exactly, but delicious and well prepared. However, this is a pub, not a gourmet restaurant. There are plenty of those around London if you’re looking for a “fine dining” experience. However, if you want a lively British pub experience with better than average food, great selection of beers, ciders, and mixed drinks…this is the place! We’ll be back…

The management and staff was super helpful, responsive, and kind. The place has a great atmosphere and character. The food was and service were very good too.

How was my visit ? Well on crutches currently so we booked a table - can’t stand for too long. Turned up and was predominately a private event, couldn’t get anywhere near the bar or across the pub. Fair enough. However Partner asked about the reservation and she was patronisingly told no sorry we’re full :), despite the booking. Paid for a taxi specifically to come here - pretty poor. They had no appetite to accommodate and came across very stuck up. Rude and pretentious. Will avoid in future

I went to the Burns Night supper club and I had the most amazing time! The room was lovely, the food was delicious, and Ross was so welcoming. I would recommend their supper clubs to anyone, and I’m looking forward to going back for dinner soon!!

I attended the Burns Night event at the Canonbury and had the best time! The food was sensational every course was amazing, and really reasonably priced. The service and staff were fantastic. We got chatting to the manager Ross who is new to the Canonbury. He had the most infectious attitude so bubbly and happy, he made us laugh all evening. I am so excited to attend the next supper club they do and cannot rave about the food enough!

Great pub in a good location and lovely garden that would be amazing in summer. The staff are great but I saw their manager (Ross) treating several people behind the bar really poorly throughout the afternoon. No one should be treated that way / spoken to like that at work, someone needs to have a word and ensure that the hardworking staff are treated better. You could tell they were really struggling with the bad behaviour of their manager, but couldn’t say anything back to him. Such a shame!

Really lovely and spacious pub, highly recommend. I had booked the 'fireplace area' for a birthday, for around 30 people and it was perfect. Lots of space, friendly staff and we didn't feel like we were in the way at all - it was very accommodating. Thank you Canonbury Tavern!

13 of us went for a Sunday roast yesterday and we will definitely be back. What a stunning large venue. The fire was roaring which was perfect on a cold day. I had the roast beef, which was cooked perfectly. Very tender. The yorkshires were homemade, they were large and fluffy. This is a busy thriving pub with a great atmosphere, so do expect a wait for food; especially if you go in a large group. The price was very reasonable, and I definitely felt it was good value for money. I highly recommend the Malbec, paired perfectly with the roast beef. Cannot wait to visit again and wish we lived closer so we could book in every Sunday.

Christmas day lunch , terrible quality very expensive , won't go again can make a much better roast dinner myself . The staff were really good , unfortunately we were seated next to a huge log burner , & it was a very mild day . I should have asked to be moved , our table was moved to one side but it was still too hot for me to eat . There was a lady who really looked after us , she was excellent .

Christmas Day My partner & I visited the Canonbury Tavern for lunch on Christmas Day. We walked in to a very festive welcome - the fire was roaring - it was perfect! Our table was next to a young family who we got talking to - everyone was so friendly. Our food was great as were the staff, nothing was too much trouble. We both really enjoyed the day and will be back very soon!

Because there was only 2 of us this year, as a treat, we decided to have Christmas Day lunch here. The cost was £95 each - expensive for us but we thought we would spoil ourselves. When we arrived the fire was blazing and everything looked fine. Unfortunately because the temperament was unusually mild, being seated by the fire was not ideal. The table had to be moved slightly away from the fire but the sweat was still pouring from us. The staff did their best and I have no criticism of their service and manner. My problem was with the food itself. Our starters were small and forgettable. The main turkey course was a plate of stodge with vegetables either under, or overcooked. We got a doggy bag for the pudding and left early. The pudding itself was underwhelming. Basically, you are being ripped off because it's Christmas. An over-priced disappointment that I am happy try to forget.

The manager and Emma were lovely and helpful with our booking arrangements but the food was v poor,our Christmas lunch was a complete waste of @£100.00 per person ,the young waiter didn't have a clue and my husband ordered beef and got turkey we told the waiter who said "you have started started it now" he hadnt just put his fork in as it was underneath a huge dry yorkshire pudfing and unperled parsnips!)tge christmas pudding was over microwaved and he didn't even ask why my daughter left ALL her dinner, I am having treatment for leukemia but was sick and diarrhoea by boxing day evening such a shame.A complete waste of £450.00 for 4 people I did not leave the £50.00 service charged required but gave the manager £20.00 cash as he was helpful with our booking.Such a waste of money never again!

Had a great time at The Canonbury recently - the atmosphere was fantastic, staff really friendly and whole experience very festive! We had a bite to eat and thought it was delicious, really nice to have the option of a dining room experience within a pub - so a few beers at the bar afterwards! Highly recommend and look forward to returning.

Came here for my husband's 70 th birthday party. We were a party of 7 adults, 2 pre-schoolers and a toddler. So happy with the table we were given which was in the warm and spacious back room. The food all was delicious, with good options for the children and vegan. The pre drinks and dishes came out promptly and the staff were super helpful and pleasant. Would thoroughly recommend for a classy, relaxed and good value meal

Lovely service from the staff, but disappointing Sunday Roast. The roast potatoes tasted and had a texture as if they were roasted the day before and then reheated. The parsnip was rock hard and the Yorkshire pudding was almost inedible, plus very little gravy.
