The Canford in Poole

Managed to change our table in good time. Small delay on one drink, but overall great food, good portions, and not too invasive check-ins. Also good drink recommendations improvisation as my preferred drink wasn't on menu.

Perfect gardens to sit and relax in

Stayed for one night, hotel room was amazing, very comfy and well kept. Food and drinks were very well presented and delicious! Special thanks to terry who took our order and Kira who did our delicious drinks through the night and to Ellie who checked up on us and made sure everything was perfect

Brilliant Sunday Roast & Service

Returned to The Canford last night for my Daughters birthday celebration. Our third visit in the last two months. As always the food was excellent, and the service just right. Not too fast and not too slow. A special shout out to Abby who looked after us on the night, and was a delight. A big thank you to her, and all the kitchen staff. We had a lovely evening.

Lovely Easter Sunday trip out to The Canfird, which never disappoints on ambience, service and food. Kyle is very friendly, professional and hospitable and made our visit all the better. Would most definitely recommend

Exceptional stay - great atmosphere, quiet at night, very comfortable bed, gorgeous bathroom, lovely soaps and moisturiser. The hotel manager went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy (I think she was the manager, if she isn't she should be). We were able to take our bikes into the room and were treated to mugs of 10/10 hot chocolate. Will absolutely be coming back!

Lovely little gem on the outskirts of Poole, beautiful beer garden with cute little huts. Lovely service from Chelsea, will definitely recommend and visit again.

We thought the service could have been better. The menu is on the pricy side which is fine but good quality service needs to be provided, if prices are high. What should happen is: Be shown our table and asked immediately if we would like some water for the table. Then after a couple of minutes asked if we'd like some drinks. What actually happened is: Be shown to our table and nothing. We had to get up after at least 5 minutes of waiting and ask if our drinks order could be taken. It was a least 15 minutes before our drinks arrived. We still had to ask for water. Our food arrived at an acceptable time after ordering but it took 15 minutes before our order was taken. When food arrived vegetable sides were luke warm. When ordered coffee these arrived luke warm as well. Menu quality good, food quality okay, service below average. It was a quiet evening but didn't think the young lady serving us was adequately trained in. Possibly not her fault but she was pleasant enough. Unfortunately our experience did not impress and gave us no reason to book again anytime soon. You did ask for a review !

Lovely pub, a stone's throw from the beautiful sandy beach. We stayed here recently for a short break/getaway and it was everything we could have hoped for. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was great and our room felt quite luxurious without being OTT. There were thoughtful touches throughout. Thank you to the team, we had a great stay and would love to come back!

Spent the weekend in this beautiful hotel with my family, 5 min walk from the beach, great service, great food, couldn't of asked for more, will be back 100% recommended

We met with family today 26/03/25 for lunch. Service was excellent. There was a good choice of food. The portion size was good. Well presented, good quality fresh food and tasted delicious. No complaints from any of us. Will definately return.

This place is great. The rooms are gorgeous and the food is great. Zac was a highlight of our stay - he has the best customer service approach and made us feel we were staying in a really classy place. This is more than just pub. It's a great find to stay in the area with a cracking location.

Stunning pub and hotel. Service is so welcoming and friendly that we don’t want to leave. The food is delicious and definitely recommend trying it yourself. The space is gorgeous and clean. Our room was lovely and well looked after though out our whole stay. We are staying with a toddler which they took care of so nice by leaving a box with books, toys , coloring things and even packages of hot chocolate and marshmallows for a treat. The team is genuinely great and so considerate. If you are looking for a stay or just lunch/dinner I think this is the place. Thank you

Went in with a group of friends from London. Place and location was great. Service was 10 out of 10 . We did not try the food as we were invited somewhere else. But we can see that the dishes are very presentable and the look tasty. I would go back and try the food

We enjoyed a last minute Sunday family gathering here. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was delicious, including roasts with a selection of meats. It's location and ambience is very traditional country feel, with a modern twist. Good job The Canford.

Hi … well we were recommended to you and came for dinner. You asked ‘what did we think’? Our welcome was totally grumpy and disinterested. Service in general was inept and the food very average .. and some of your Trip Advisor reviews are similar. So, more training all round and maybe keep a close eye on your hosts/managers. Thanks

Very nice pub and hotel. Lovely decor and excellent staff. Our room was generally ok although AC and hot water pipes very noisy. Bathroom a little tired with various issues with the loo and shower.

A great Sunday lunch after we were let down at short notice by another venue and the staff here managed to fit all 8 of us in. Food was great, good value and service was outstanding. Our waitress Alicia has the memory of a genius and a great sense of humour. Well worth a visit.

Great Sunday lunch and a lovely atmosphere.

The food was good, sevice was excellent. Prices were reasonable and the menu varied and interesting, including a day boat choice of a whole plaice. We were a party of 7 which included a new baby and a dog and were made welcome. Friends who have stayed say they were pleased with the room. There is off road parking and the hotel is within easy walking distance of the beautiful Poole beaches. What more can one ask for? .

We went to the canford for Sunday lunch. I can honestly say that the Roast beef was fantastic and so was the service! Looking forward to another visit.

My family and I came for a roast dinner yesterday at 5pm and were all really disappointed with the food. We definitely find the lunch service tends to be more reliable. Such a shame as we love the pub.

Friendly and helpful staff but the food was awful. Not sure what’s gone wrong here as previously had decent grub. I guess it’s a good sign that a lot of the meals had run out but all of our meals were either really bad or ok. Sadly won’t be back anytime soon.

Tasteful furnishings, beautiful winter garden. Quite loud when the number of visitors is high.

Place is lovely, had been a few times when it was the plantation. The food we ordered came out incorrect, it was taken back for the right dinner. When it finally turned up half the veg was missing and it tasted bland. My partner shared his burger with me which also tasted bland and was fully of fat but no flavour. Service was great. Food was just poor. No1 at the main till in restaurant so if you hadn’t been before and wanted to be seated you’d have to go to the bar to ask where you were sat. They gave us a table number and pointed to where it should be. Unfortunately none of the tables are numbered so we had to ask another person where we were supposed to be sat as we had booked. Was much better and smoother when was the plantations the menu itself is also pretty short

Went for drinks after a christening. Bloody Mary s not good, way over spiced, especially Worcester sauce - bartender poured a whole measure of it FFS, otherwise as nice as ever

I recently stayed at The Candford, and despite the challenges of being short-staffed, the service was outstanding! The team went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive, which truly made our experience special. The hotel itself was lovely—clean, well-maintained, and offering all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was perfect, and the atmosphere was peaceful and inviting. Even though they were clearly short-staffed, the dedication and professionalism of the team never wavered. They handled everything with grace and efficiency, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our stay. I highly recommend The Candford and would definitely stay here again. The fantastic service more than made up for any minor inconveniences. A big thank you to the wonderful staff!

We stayed at the Canford for the weekend of our wedding at Compton Acres. Excellent service, excellent breakfast, the room was great! Jerry and all the staff were super friendly and helpful and very thoughtful to offer extras for our special day. Our rooms were clean and made up every day to a brilliant standard. The food we had for breakfast was fresh and of excellent quality. To top it all off, we were only a stone's throw away from one of our favourite beaches. Thank you so much for making our weekend special!

Dried up sandwich, how can be so wrong. Bread wasn’t fresh and way too expense: It was a shame the food was inadequate as the garden area is very nice.

Horrible experience. They messed up our food order, after 45mins we checked where it was at, they admitted to confusing the tickets, fine, these things happen. The food eventually came, it was luke warm, I complained, the waiter, took it away and threw in the bin. He allowed the children to keep the food. I managed to get a refund after a show down in the middle of the pub! Horrible man, mediocre food from what I could tell.

We ate at The Cranford twice this week while staying at a local Airbnb property. It was easy to book online. Had drinks before dinner in the garden which was very relaxing. Our dinner was served in the conservatory which has a great atmosphere. The food was very plentiful and delicious and the staff were very friendly and knowledgable. I particularly enjoyed the Cornish Sardines which were on the specials menu. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had a get-together the day after our wedding in the garden. The pub allowed us to make use of the tiki hut and put tables together in the garden. Service was fast, the food was good and reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend coming here for a lunch or a small do!

We had dinner , with a warm friendly service, fantastic food, great ale on tap - (Beavertown's Neck Oil) Pity the heat lamps didn't work on one side of the Tiki Hut, (which was brilliant too). But fix that and it's a 5*

I was on a cycle ride and chose to detour from sandbanks rd up haven rd, a very steep hill, as the last time I visited the Canford they were serving proper job ale, my favorite. Unfortunately when I got there they had run out. Most disappointing even though the youngest was ok.

The Canford bar and hotel is in a beautiful setting getting the evening sun. It Taylor’s itself in expensive beers and wine and disappointing food.

I was in a party of 4 that had dinner at The Canford on Saturday. We were seated in the conservatory area which is really pleasant and there was a good atmosphere. After that it was a bit of a mixed bag. I was the only one to have a starter and the 'Hot Mackerel Pate' was served chilled. It was nice but not as described. For mains, two had risotto which was good, the 'Day Boat Fish' surely could have come with potatoes at the price and the Caesar's Salad was as described i.e. predominantly dressed lettuce. For dessert, we were amongst the patient ones who waited for a dessert menu (at least one other table didn't). The Eton Mess was mostly cream with some meringue and the smallest amount of fruit. The others enjoyed their desserts. Much of the issue on the evening seemed to be due to the waiting staff being rather overwhelmed by the number of dinners, despite their hard work. I would give The Canford another chance because the potential is there for it to be really good. However, on this bank holiday Saturday, is was no better than okay.

I liked several things about this place, but it had some annoyances. It's a hotel/pub with attractive decor and has a nice outside space with great afternoon sunshine, secluded by trees and several roof-covered huts of varying sizes that are cosy, as well as other open tables. After a crisp glass of rose we were tempted by burgers which were good with decent fillings. Couple of problems with the outside space. Main one was a total failure to clear away finished meals and glasses, and the staff were in no way inundated with customers, it was just about attention to priorities. This is near the coast, so you had a big seagull popping in to eye up the leftovers and get a meal, and a magpie doing the same. If they cleared up promptly this habit wouldn't develop. Less of an issue to some, but just an eco-bugbear that the whole open area is covered with astroturf. Just a shame a better way can't be found that looks better and is kinder to the environment.

Went for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed - the plate of food was huge, delicious, and all cooked to perfection. All roasts came with a Yorkshire pudding and a root vegetable mash. The pork belly was divine - moist and tender - naughty but very tasty. There are only 4 stars for service as although the waitress was sweet, she wasn't confident and didn't know the full range of soft drinks, but didn't offer to find out either. My other gripe is there was an overwhelming smell of fried fish in the restaurant (and I like fish), fortunately I sat in the conservatory.

Best chicken roast I ever had. And I normally don’t like chicken 🐣 Would’ve been nice to be able to book outdoor area, but this was not allowed online.

We really like this dog friendly pub. Service is always very good but can be quite slow at times, even when they don’t look busy. We went for the usual ‘Skinny, extra-hot latte ‘ and it did not disappoint. It was hot but not Extra... The coffee has a smooth flavour and certainly hits the caffeine spot at a competitive price.  Recommendations from us would be to have a larger cup as it goes far too quickly. Final note: General housekeeping, cobwebs on the entrance lighting and the artificial lillies in the ladies restroom needs a good clean.

Nice Sunday lunch with generous portions! I am very often disappointed by Sunday lunch as quality of the finished product is often below the one I do at home...in this case it was very close! Roast potatoes were OK. All the rest was superb!

We had breakfast for four of us and it was very pleasant. Although my special of beans on toast with cheese proved incredibly difficult to get. That said the rest of the breakfasts were excellent and it's a lovely venue. They were short staffed and the service was sketchy I would have given a 3 star but the gentleman manager was very apologetic and so I am sure this was just a one off and will improve. We will go back

Had the vegan beetroot wellington, which was exceptionally tasty, & the roast chicken, which was a bit small tbh; could have done with a few more veg (especially spuds and parsnips) especially given the price, but what we had were delicious.

My husband, Father in law and I had dinner at the Canford on a Saturday evening and Leon served us. We all commented our food was very good and it was served piping hot. The service was exceptional, unintrusive but attentive, the perfect balance.

Nice welcome and service but unfortunately my son's BLT sandwich was teaming with insects (aphids etc). Returned and refunded including a substitute kids meal. The restaurant needs to wash their salads thoroughly.

Lovely welcome on arrival with our choice of 3 tables in the pretty and warm conservatory. Great menu, I had the delicious hake with a brilliant side of heritage carrots with tender stem broccoli. Service was friendly but a number of requests were forgotten. Would visit again

Not always anyone on the bar to serve at any time, so that can be slow to start with. It is a relatively quiet bar, with a conservatory space for eating and plenty of outside garden space adorned with seating and a huge canopy, additional type beach huts to sit in.

Place looks trendy. But the dood was awful. 12 pounds for a day sandwich with grey bread. Yes grey bread. Too few staff on duty even though it was quiet.

Nice place, bit shabby in places, toilets bit unhygienic, dog friendly

Really friendly, helpful staff. Food was yummy, not a huge choice if you dont eat fish/meat. Kids menu might be better offering baked beans or peas rather than just peas for the pickier eaters. The selection of kids meals was good our picky eater ate his first burger and enjoyed it...only managed 1 pea though.
