We went to the canford for Sunday lunch. I can honestly say that the Roast beef was fantastic and so was the service! Looking forward to another visit.

My family and I came for a roast dinner yesterday at 5pm and were all really disappointed with the food. We definitely find the lunch service tends to be more reliable. Such a shame as we love the pub.

Friendly and helpful staff but the food was awful. Not sure what’s gone wrong here as previously had decent grub. I guess it’s a good sign that a lot of the meals had run out but all of our meals were either really bad or ok. Sadly won’t be back anytime soon.

Tasteful furnishings, beautiful winter garden. Quite loud when the number of visitors is high.

Place is lovely, had been a few times when it was the plantation. The food we ordered came out incorrect, it was taken back for the right dinner. When it finally turned up half the veg was missing and it tasted bland. My partner shared his burger with me which also tasted bland and was fully of fat but no flavour. Service was great. Food was just poor. No1 at the main till in restaurant so if you hadn’t been before and wanted to be seated you’d have to go to the bar to ask where you were sat. They gave us a table number and pointed to where it should be. Unfortunately none of the tables are numbered so we had to ask another person where we were supposed to be sat as we had booked. Was much better and smoother when was the plantations the menu itself is also pretty short

Had a delightful afternoon with friends and a supper which was fabulous.

Went for drinks after a christening. Bloody Mary s not good, way over spiced, especially Worcester sauce - bartender poured a whole measure of it FFS, otherwise as nice as ever

I recently stayed at The Candford, and despite the challenges of being short-staffed, the service was outstanding! The team went above and beyond to ensure we had a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, welcoming, and incredibly attentive, which truly made our experience special. The hotel itself was lovely—clean, well-maintained, and offering all the amenities we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was perfect, and the atmosphere was peaceful and inviting. Even though they were clearly short-staffed, the dedication and professionalism of the team never wavered. They handled everything with grace and efficiency, making sure we were well taken care of throughout our stay. I highly recommend The Candford and would definitely stay here again. The fantastic service more than made up for any minor inconveniences. A big thank you to the wonderful staff!

We stayed at the Canford for the weekend of our wedding at Compton Acres. Excellent service, excellent breakfast, the room was great! Jerry and all the staff were super friendly and helpful and very thoughtful to offer extras for our special day. Our rooms were clean and made up every day to a brilliant standard. The food we had for breakfast was fresh and of excellent quality. To top it all off, we were only a stone's throw away from one of our favourite beaches. Thank you so much for making our weekend special!

Dried up sandwich, how can be so wrong. Bread wasn’t fresh and way too expense: It was a shame the food was inadequate as the garden area is very nice.

Horrible experience. They messed up our food order, after 45mins we checked where it was at, they admitted to confusing the tickets, fine, these things happen. The food eventually came, it was luke warm, I complained, the waiter, took it away and threw in the bin. He allowed the children to keep the food. I managed to get a refund after a show down in the middle of the pub! Horrible man, mediocre food from what I could tell.

We ate at The Cranford twice this week while staying at a local Airbnb property. It was easy to book online. Had drinks before dinner in the garden which was very relaxing. Our dinner was served in the conservatory which has a great atmosphere. The food was very plentiful and delicious and the staff were very friendly and knowledgable. I particularly enjoyed the Cornish Sardines which were on the specials menu. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had a get-together the day after our wedding in the garden. The pub allowed us to make use of the tiki hut and put tables together in the garden. Service was fast, the food was good and reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend coming here for a lunch or a small do!

We had dinner , with a warm friendly service, fantastic food, great ale on tap - (Beavertown's Neck Oil) Pity the heat lamps didn't work on one side of the Tiki Hut, (which was brilliant too). But fix that and it's a 5*

Had a lovely meal here this evening, I don't remember our waitresses name but I can say that she went above and beyond this evening and made me my family and friends feel at ease and was also a great laugh too and eas so helpful as we had a couple of picky eaters too. I was on a cycle ride and chose to detour from sandbanks rd up haven rd, a very steep hill, as the last time I visited the Canford they were serving proper job ale, my favorite. Unfortunately when I got there they had run out. Most disappointing even though the youngest was ok.

The Canford bar and hotel is in a beautiful setting getting the evening sun. It Taylor’s itself in expensive beers and wine and disappointing food.

I was in a party of 4 that had dinner at The Canford on Saturday. We were seated in the conservatory area which is really pleasant and there was a good atmosphere. After that it was a bit of a mixed bag. I was the only one to have a starter and the 'Hot Mackerel Pate' was served chilled. It was nice but not as described. For mains, two had risotto which was good, the 'Day Boat Fish' surely could have come with potatoes at the price and the Caesar's Salad was as described i.e. predominantly dressed lettuce. For dessert, we were amongst the patient ones who waited for a dessert menu (at least one other table didn't). The Eton Mess was mostly cream with some meringue and the smallest amount of fruit. The others enjoyed their desserts. Much of the issue on the evening seemed to be due to the waiting staff being rather overwhelmed by the number of dinners, despite their hard work. I would give The Canford another chance because the potential is there for it to be really good. However, on this bank holiday Saturday, is was no better than okay.

I liked several things about this place, but it had some annoyances. It's a hotel/pub with attractive decor and has a nice outside space with great afternoon sunshine, secluded by trees and several roof-covered huts of varying sizes that are cosy, as well as other open tables. After a crisp glass of rose we were tempted by burgers which were good with decent fillings. Couple of problems with the outside space. Main one was a total failure to clear away finished meals and glasses, and the staff were in no way inundated with customers, it was just about attention to priorities. This is near the coast, so you had a big seagull popping in to eye up the leftovers and get a meal, and a magpie doing the same. If they cleared up promptly this habit wouldn't develop. Less of an issue to some, but just an eco-bugbear that the whole open area is covered with astroturf. Just a shame a better way can't be found that looks better and is kinder to the environment.

Went for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed - the plate of food was huge, delicious, and all cooked to perfection. All roasts came with a Yorkshire pudding and a root vegetable mash. The pork belly was divine - moist and tender - naughty but very tasty. There are only 4 stars for service as although the waitress was sweet, she wasn't confident and didn't know the full range of soft drinks, but didn't offer to find out either. My other gripe is there was an overwhelming smell of fried fish in the restaurant (and I like fish), fortunately I sat in the conservatory.

Best chicken roast I ever had. And I normally don’t like chicken 🐣 Would’ve been nice to be able to book outdoor area, but this was not allowed online.

We really like this dog friendly pub. Service is always very good but can be quite slow at times, even when they don’t look busy. We went for the usual ‘Skinny, extra-hot latte ‘ and it did not disappoint. It was hot but not Extra... The coffee has a smooth flavour and certainly hits the caffeine spot at a competitive price.  Recommendations from us would be to have a larger cup as it goes far too quickly. Final note: General housekeeping, cobwebs on the entrance lighting and the artificial lillies in the ladies restroom needs a good clean.

Nice Sunday lunch with generous portions! I am very often disappointed by Sunday lunch as quality of the finished product is often below the one I do at home...in this case it was very close! Roast potatoes were OK. All the rest was superb!

We had breakfast for four of us and it was very pleasant. Although my special of beans on toast with cheese proved incredibly difficult to get. That said the rest of the breakfasts were excellent and it's a lovely venue. They were short staffed and the service was sketchy I would have given a 3 star but the gentleman manager was very apologetic and so I am sure this was just a one off and will improve. We will go back

Had the vegan beetroot wellington, which was exceptionally tasty, & the roast chicken, which was a bit small tbh; could have done with a few more veg (especially spuds and parsnips) especially given the price, but what we had were delicious.

My husband, Father in law and I had dinner at the Canford on a Saturday evening and Leon served us. We all commented our food was very good and it was served piping hot. The service was exceptional, unintrusive but attentive, the perfect balance.

Nice welcome and service but unfortunately my son's BLT sandwich was teaming with insects (aphids etc). Returned and refunded including a substitute kids meal. The restaurant needs to wash their salads thoroughly.

Lovely welcome on arrival with our choice of 3 tables in the pretty and warm conservatory. Great menu, I had the delicious hake with a brilliant side of heritage carrots with tender stem broccoli. Service was friendly but a number of requests were forgotten. Would visit again

Not always anyone on the bar to serve at any time, so that can be slow to start with. It is a relatively quiet bar, with a conservatory space for eating and plenty of outside garden space adorned with seating and a huge canopy, additional type beach huts to sit in.

Place looks trendy. But the dood was awful. 12 pounds for a day sandwich with grey bread. Yes grey bread. Too few staff on duty even though it was quiet.

Nice place, bit shabby in places, toilets bit unhygienic, dog friendly

Really friendly, helpful staff. Food was yummy, not a huge choice if you dont eat fish/meat. Kids menu might be better offering baked beans or peas rather than just peas for the pickier eaters. The selection of kids meals was good our picky eater ate his first burger and enjoyed it...only managed 1 pea though.

Great staff always so helpful and friendly. Best of all it's dog friendly and my dog loves it when we call in she even knows we're they keep the dog treats

Great food and atmosphere . Service mixed. They were very busy . Some younger staff had no sense of service -waited a long time to be greeted so, in the end, having been ignored twice went and found someone ourselves . Very slow to bring menus /take drinks orders and bring water to table . An acknowledgment of this /apology would have made the difference rather than a - I don’t really care attitude. However, food excellent and once our waiter changed all was well.

Wonderful stay at the Canford last weekend. We enjoyed drinks in the tiki! The bed was super comfortable in our room and we had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was delicious! All super child friendly too 🥰

There is no getting away from some of the historic feedback on Google. I do have to say though that the experience we had on Friday night was a million miles away from some of the poor responses that we read. We were served by Chelsie and Molly. Both very attentive polite and friendly making us feel very welcome indeed.. The food was really delicious and we had a wonderful evening. My wife is Plant based and whilst the beetroot risotto was delicious maybe a few more options Thank you.

I reserved a section of the conservatory for a small gathering for my mum's birthday. The staff were very accommodating with the decorations I had brought in to be hung up, and the cake that needed to be stored in advance etc. They made me feel at ease by being so flexible with the arrangements for food and drink, and the evening went without a hitch! Everyone had a great time and the space looked lovely with their outdoor fairy lights etc. Would highly recommend - whether it be for a quiet drink or something more!

I recently visited the Canford Pub, and it exceeded all expectations. The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and great food made for a fantastic experience. Our server was Cara and we were looked after very well. I will definitely be returning again soon!!

They didn’t automatically add gratuity to the bill which was refreshing and appreciated (resulting in my discretion on tip). Cara and Ross were very friendly and great with our little ones. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday lunches here yesterday, the service was quick and our waiter Jack was friendly and helpful. The 2 pork belly roasts were particularly delicious as was the sticky toffee pudding. Good value for money and it was pleasant sitting in the conservatory. Well worth a visit.

Had the festive menu with a friend but it was the worst Christmas meal I have ever had. The cauliflower soup was only lukewarm and very gloopy and heavy, not very nice at all. The roast beef wasn't carved roast beef as you would expect but packaged roast beef slices that you get from a supermarket. The veg was appalling- the brussel sprouts had not been cooked and were so hard they were inedible. I didn't have any dessert as I had had enough of the abysmal quality after the first 2 courses. As I was with a friend who had booked this in good faith I didn't complain at the time out of politeness and I didn't want to upset her but it is outrageous that you are charging £42 for a meal of such substandard quality. For this amount of money I would expect good quality food which had been well cooked.

Came for Sunday lunch. Lovely location and setting, nice warm welcome and dog friendly. The twisted bellini packs a punch! We came because the Echo said its one of the best roasts in the county. This is a bit far fetched to be honest, the beef was over cooked and a bit tough, the Yorkshire was so crispy and dry, when I pressed it between my finger and thumb, it turned to dust. The gravy is good, as was the veg. Service was fast and the wine was good. Lovely outdoor area. Pleasant staff, might pop back in for a drink when next in the area and hopefully the feedback I gave to the team member is taken on board. Would be great as The Canford does have positives, but the roast just didn't live up to expectations.

Enjoyed our Xmas party last night. Special thanks to Halle for looking after us. Food and service was excellent.

The canford has gone downhill. It's a place we have been many of times and always loved however on our last visit, we had a terrible experience! There was no staff to be seen as we walked in, we then waited over 15 minutes to be given menu's. The waitress walked past ignoring us on many occasions in which we then had to shout for her attention. Once ordered the drinks order was wrong, then when the food came out we had to wait for cutlery which should have already been laid out. The foot itself was nice but still room for improvement. If you're planning a visit in the winter I would advise you to take a coat to eat in.

I don't think there was a great choice for vegetarians. My friend had a steak that went back 3 times before it was cooked correctly. Staff were very apologetic. I would go back but not in a rush.

The roast dinner today was really not good. 3 enormous slices of tough and fatty beef that was even difficult to cut, let alone chew. 1/2 a roasted carrot, a bit of watery cabbage and 3 small soft roast potatos. A desert spoon of mash potato and tasteless gravy plus a huge dry Yorkshire pudding. The service was good and the staff helpful. The only reason it had atmosphere were the people I was with. Extremely disappointed and expensive. Three of us wrapped up the meat to take home to the dog. I did advise the staff member who was at the till that the meat was inedible. She thanked me and said she would let 'chef' know. Such a shame as it was a lovely celebration party.

Super venue for a simple coffee, snack or full blown meal. Good service, food is very good but not quite excellent...can be pricey. Warm and cosy in the winter and bright and sunny in the summer, especially in their garden room. The Canford has a superb outside area. Worth a visit.

Joined _The Autumn Reveal_ last night and loved the warm welcome with welcome drink, goody bag, and sampling the wines. Even though we were outside, the team had done a great job of ensuring lots of heaters and making the atmosphere cosy. We stayed to eat and were mightily impressed with the cooking of our steaks.

Had a lovely meal, but the two screens showing the rugby were out of sync so had a preview from the other side of the bar of what was to come which ruined the game. Highly recommend the food though

Staff were nice, but wow this pub is so over priced. You can eat at top gourmet restaurants in London for these prices. £24 for a pie with mash that was heated in the microwave. Just wow! Portions very small, so not like you get value for money. Kids meals were tiny and no deal, so you have to pay extra for desert which consisted of 4 tiny donuts. Really surprised for a Youngs as usually reasonable.

Avoid like a hairy cake !!!!!! Give this place a miss, much nicer, cleaner, friendlier places to eat and drink.
