Stopped here for a pint. Lovely service. Massive selection of bar drinks and clearly a thing for Scotch if that’s your thing. Loads of seats. Looks like they like to entertain.

What a fantastic place! Called Kenny and he was fabulous to organise our work event (retirement and leaving combined). Great food, great drinks and very attentive staff. Nothing was too much, Kenny dressed the space with the balloons and photos I took down and the leavers were chuffed. Will definitely be having further work events at this venue. Thank you the team had a great time.

I’m baffled by some of the reviews here so wanted to post on our recent experiences. We’ve been going to the Candlemaker for a few months now, once a week for the lunch menu – incredibly good value and very tasty food. At the weekend, my parents came over unexpectedly and we decided to try out their Sunday Roast for the first time. It was outstanding – everything we ordered was perfectly cooked, very generous portions and nothing but delicious. They were also kind enough to box some of it for us to take away when we were too stuffed to finish. My only disappointment is the place isn’t better known and utilised. The Weatherspoon’s up the road is always busy, yet the food is no where near as good. I wonder if they fall victim to not being on an obvious corner, which is a shame as we’ve always had a great experience there. I would certainly recommend!

SMOK'D AT THE CANDLEMAKER This place is a let down! We both had the Sunday roast which was cold the first time it came out from the kitchen with the meat over cooked. We sent them both back. The second time the meat was very fatty and the vegetables were covered in oil and not cooked properly! What a let down. They also ran out of the Brixton beer we were drinking. Overall the place is average and nothing special. As you walk through the front door there is mo smell of smoked meat. I assume it is bought in. The staff are pleasant but lack customer service training. The whole feel of the place was like a normal pub. Nothing special.

These guys have been incredible. Even in "pre-lockdown" they have gone above and beyond to make us feel like it isn't lockdown. The team are SO friendly. This pub isn't my local by far, but I would come out of my way just to be here. Richard and his staff are the best. They own Battersea when it comes to service and a good night out!

For the people complaining that the food portion is small... Let me remind you that you're getting bottomless alcohol for 3 hours. Bottomless toast & coffee. Fabulous entertainment plus a bingo game with cool prizes! Yes it helped that my table won both the £50 brunch vouchers, but I would've been pretty happy even if we didn't. Great day out and highly recommend.

It was a late Sunday night and choices were slim but we should have kept looking. Average pub ambiance, loads of second hand smoke even inside from the local crowd. Selection of beer and wine limited. If you order anything beyond a burger I'd suggest you're taking a big risk.

Came here yesterday for “bottomless brunch” and it was truly awful. I’ve never written a trip advisor review before, let alone a bad one, but this was so bad it can’t be ignored. My “tricolour bruschetta” was literally a piece of hovis bread with a tomato on top and the kind of cheese you might get in the newsagents next to the redbull and cheap sweets. The “mimosa” was a giant jug of orange juice with what must have been a thimble of Prosecco. The bottomless Bloody Mary’s we were promised didn’t appear until 90 minutes in and that’s only because I went up to the bar and asked where they were. We had to buy extra Prosecco to go in to our “mimosas” at £27 a bottle (alcohol was necessary to wash away the disappointment). The service was dismal, it took them half an hour to take our order and I’d finished eating my tomato on toast before most people had even received their “meal”. One waiter was nice and seemed to understand how awful this was, other staff were rude and acted like they were doing you a favour. At first when we paid £25 for the brunch I thought it was cheap - now knowing what you’re actually getting it must be the most expensive piece of toast and orange juice I’ve ever had. Tina Turner Tea Lady was good, she should find herself another establishment to entertain. I don’t like writing bad reviews but this was honestly shocking. I want my money back.

Came here with family, my first ever brunch experience so was expecting to have a lot of fun. I can’t express how disappointing it was. The mimosas had next to no alcohol in. The food came at different times about 45 mins apart, the “bread of the day” was hovis. A lot of the food was cold. It’s also very small portions. The only food that is unlimited is toast which you make yourself in two toasters. So only 4 bits at a time, which leads to a toast queue, a bit like the breakfast bar in a travelodge. We didn’t get bloody Mary’s for 90 mins and these had to be asked for as they were not obviously available. We ended up buying our own Prosecco to top up the mimosas and this was 27 pounds a bottle. There didn’t seem to be any acknowledgement from the staff that what they were providing was below par. The only saving grace was Tina Turner who is amazing, very funny and entertaining.

I went here for the 'bottomless' brunch with my family, and we payed £26 each. For this, you get bottomless juice and weak alcohol and atrocious food. For that money, we received one piece of toast with poor toppings. The bruschetta had sliced mozarella on top - not even real mozarella- and the sicillian eggs was served on Hovis bread. The drinks had almost no alcohol in and the food was served with a half an hour difference between the first and last dish to arrive. The service was also nonexistent. I honestly feel robbed. I do not know how this establishment can get away with this, when competitors such as The Big Chill serve bottomless brunch and alcohol for £30 with way better service. I want my money back as I am so disappointed. Do not come here unless you want to waste your money. I am expecting management to contact me regarding this matter.

A friend booked a table for two of us for drinks and nibbles on April 4th. We arrived and were lead to our table, and presented with two food/wine menus. We asked for the cocktail menu and then ordered food and drinks. It took two attempts to chase the food and drinks before they arrived some 30 minutes after ordering (I ordered a passion fruit martini which was bought to the table, them my friends Candlemaker cocktail, then the food, then the prosecco shot which should have accompanied my drink). We waited some time for a waitress to come back to us and we ordered the same drink, asking if it would take as long as the first drink to be told "probably, we're really busy and everyone is having to wait" Well I won' t - your staffing issues are not mine, and waiting the best part of an hour to get two drinks is not realistic or customer friendly and in an area where there are a lot of options, not sensible

My friend organised a brunch for 11 of us for Christmas. She had pre-warned the manager that I was unable to drink any juices to mix with the prosseco due to me being allergic and was told this was fine. On arriving the manager we met with was rude, unhelpful and told me ‘no one is allergic to oranges’ I then showed him through the internet what I suffered with. He finally agreed to give me just prosseco but I was told I could not share it with anyone. Our food got mixed up with another table so two of the group ate and the rest of us had to wait another 45 mins - hour. When it arrived it was cold but we didn’t feel we could tell the manager as he was not very customer service friendly. Another one of he group then noticed the same manager telling off a member of staff in full view of the bar.

There were not a lot of good pubs within walking distance of our hotel but this one was. The atmosphere was nice, very laid back. Both the bar tender and the GM were very friendly and we talked for a while. We even came back after our dinner. The GM, I can't remember her name now, was so gracious. She gave us some amazing sausage rolls to go. The draft selection was adequate, not huge but a good mix to choose from. All in all we were very pleased. We would go back if in London again.

We live just round the corner from the Candlemaker and so having been there for a few drinks decided it was the perfect local. We tried the quiz one week with some friends which was a good night. The service has never been friendly however, and it never felt particularly welcoming. When you have such great pubs nearby, such as the Latchmere, I think it already has hard competition, so there needs to be a special draw when the prices are the same if not more. We had the Sunday roast one weekend and it wasn't great at all, plus the portions were really small. We would have continued coming here to support the local pub but after already being fed up with the can't-be-bothered staff, we had one really rude encounter with one of the bar men that just put us off completely. He basically threw us out after we had ordered drinks from the manager who said they were still serving, but it seemed he wanted to go home. It made us feel totally unwelcome and annoyed. Sadly we won't be going here anymore.

We spent a day at Wimbledon watching tennis and then decided to eat at Candlemaker. It's in an area that's a bit run down but trying to come back to life and Candlemaker seems to be trying to hell in this endeavor. The vibe they have going is great. The food was a bit of a let down - it was just ok. The hipster working behind the bar came off a bit "too cool for school" and not very friendly to guests. Seems like if you are a local you get a bit better treatment but if you are a tourist, they seem a little annoyed for having to serve you. Not the best way to run a business in an area you are trying to revive.

Came here on Sunday for leaving drinks. There were around 15 of us and we'd booked beforehand. I'd never been to the pub before but was pleasantly surprised when I walked in - it's cosy (helped by the narrow shape) and I like how it's decorated. However, I was really taken aback by the rudeness of service we encountered. I don't think I have particularly high standards from pub staff, just a bit of eye contact and a non aggressive tone is good enough for me. But these guys on shift at this point were acting like we'd offended them by just being there. The blond female barmaid was so unbelievably rude in her manner that everyone was shocked - when she came over with burgers she stood there looking angry, when noone claimed a haloumi burger immediately (and I mean immediately) she snapped "Well someone ordered it". Later when she was clearing plates she complained that every time she came over we got in her way so she couldn't clean up. A male member of staff, though less abjectly rude was far from friendly. When I asked for some sauce, he accused someone else on the table of being greedy and stealing mine. He complained to us that "apparently I'm serving drinks and food today" in this weird bitter way as he slammed down the pretty average and diminutive roasts. All of my friends who went to the bar came back specifically commenting on how rudely they were treated. And we're Londoners, it's not like we expect open arms and small talk, just not outright aggression. I'm sure not all of the staff are like this, but at present this bizarre serving style risks undermining a potentially nice pub.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this pub. In a slightly unpromising location on Battersea High St, it was spacious, delightfully decorated, with plenty of nooks and crannies and covered areas outside for smokers and was both airy and welcoming when I arrived to eat a late lunch. The menu had a variety of options instead of the usual freezer-to-microwave pub food. Indeed, the food is all freshly prepared and cooked on the day, and the meat free-range, they claim. I had to make a difficult choice between Iberian Stew, Cajun Chicken and Pulled Pork in Brioche, with home-made coleslaw on the side. I eventually chose the latter, with a side order of triple-cooked chips, which definitely did not disappoint. They were crunchy outside, soft inside and served with some amazing home-made dips. The pork also was tender, tasty and filling. I am already looking forward to my next visit, with the intention of choosing another option from this interesting menu. My only quibble was that the beers were expensive, at more than £5 a pint. This is, in effect, a pub, so why charge so much for drinkers? The food, I was happy with. The prices were around £10 for a main course, £5 for a starter, which was reasonable given the type of fare they are supplying. I would definitely recommend this for anyone in the South London area who wants a fun meal with friends, or a cosy meal with a partner. Dare I say it, the music wasn't irritating either, being old-school rock or country, and the volume at a very reasonable level, but perhaps I'm giving my age away here...?
