The Candlemaker in City of London, Westminster

Came here for our Christmas party and we had an amazing time. Bessie was really attentive, efficient and friendly which made our time really enjoyable. we will be back !

This was our first visit, as a group of former work colleagues now retired, to 'The Candlemaker'. We were fortunate to be positioned on a slightly raised area at the back and enjoyed the (relative) peace and quiet. The service was excellent and friendly throughout, and the food delicious and in sensible portions. Would thoroughly recommend (and the location is great, so close to the station).

We recently visited The Candlemaker for our work Christmas drinks with party food. We reserved an area and had preordered drinks and food. Olga our server provided excellent service, even though it was a very busy night with lots of different groups in the bar. The food went down very well with everyone and was perfect for the vibe of the night.

Big shoutout to Olga who held our reserved area, provided incredible service and supported our work to have brilliant Christmas party! Thank you!

Jessica was warm and friendly, there was a guy, manager I think from Albania (sorry I forgot his name) also very pleasant and nice, so sweet that they accommodated to me last minute because I had actually booked for the wrong day, thanks both for excellent service and experience

Perfect for our breakfast business meeting. Reasonable prices, great service and barely a minute from Cannon Street tube.

Visited this lovely venue for the first time a couple of weeks ago and certainly wasn’t disappointed. The location was convenient and the staff were super friendly. Definitely more upmarket than your average pub and the food was exquisite and plentiful. We will definitely be visiting again in the future!

I booked this venue for a team post-Christmas lunch, we were a largish party of 16 and so was asked to pre-book the food, which is fine, something I would expect. On the day, when the hostess came to ask if we were ready to order I explained that I had pre-booked, instead of saying, I will check that, she just said "no you didn't". I explained I had emailed them on the Monday evening and then with a quick amendment on the Tuesday, and again, instead of apologising or going to check, she basically said I hadn't, so I showed her the emails, I didn't get an apology she just took the print-out I had with me with the orders on and took it to the kitchen. The food was nice and we have no complaints there but because of the delay, one of the team had to leave as he had a meeting to attend, which left him without his food until later as we got it as a "to go". Not sure I would be recommending the venue for food because of this attitude to any other departments in our organisation, but OK for drinks

Pop in for a quick lunch with the family. Did not booked, just walkin and got a table. Nice and cosy pub. We've been there several times. Had the Sunday roast. Best We've had in ages. Fish and chips was massive. Best in London. Will definitely recommend

Extremely average. Expensive drinks. Slow staff. Not overly clean. One notch up from a Wetherspoons is the best way to describe it.

I've worked with different venues in the past and Candlemaker is at the very high on the list. Atmosphere is great, staff very professional and very helpful. Great pricing! I've already booked to come for non work related night.

Stopped here for drinks and had a great time - staff were all incredibly friendly and happy to help us with recommendations and the pub had a real cosy feel to it. Didn’t try the food but will definitely be coming back to try it as the steaks looked amazing!

This bar/restaurant is physically attractive and the kitchen is above average but the whole place is let down by borderline non-existent table service; really bad/off/stale/sour bitter from Youngs and Adnams breweries and music too loud. So none of us will be going back.

I arranged a walk around the city to look at small gardens. Our walk finished at 5.30 so I booked The Candlemaker for 6pm on Monday evening for 6 which I then increased to 8. At 6 pm 10 of us arrived for dinner so Candlemaker staff added another table. We were delighted with the meals. Many ordered the fish and chips and were presented with large pieces of fish and excellent bowls of chips. I and 2 of the party ordered the fish sharing plate and the camembert sharing plate. The fish sharing plate included two varieties of freshly prepared fish along with crab balls, whitebait and squid plus potato salad. We struggled to eat it all so excellent value at £10 per head. Everyone was well pleased with their food. The young bearded man who served us went out of his way to be helpful. A very successful meal and as we all live in or around London we will be back. The Candlemaker is opposite Cannon Street station and a very short walk from Bank station. We are so glad we discovered The Candlemaker a pleasant surprise with air con for the hot weather.

After being sat down being mumbled to that all steaks was off the menu. To then being sat for 15 min without anyone asking for our order or a drinks order. Whilst watching the staff mess around in the corner. Was shocking. We walked out and went to another restaurant

Between us we had fish and chips, fish sandwich and butternut squash hummus. Portion sizes were really generous, great chips and overall the three of us were extremely satisfied with our food. The pub environment is pretty nice - spacious and airy. However, the service was pretty hopeless. We waited a good 15 mins to order drinks so not off to a good start and it wasn't at all busy. The food was then served promptly but at no time were we asked whether we wanted to order any more drinks despite all of us having empty glasses. At the end of our main courses we weren't offered desserts or coffee. The service wasn't unfriendly as such but surely, in the current climate, establishments should be ensuring their staff make a bit more effort if they want to get return business and recommendations.
