Came down today from Scotland for a concert, after a brisk walk, ended up in The Camel & Artichoke. We were greeted by your colleague with a beaming smile. Claire was helpful, friendly, courteous throughout the four hours we were there. She was busy completing other tasks but frequently checked in with us, she could not have done any more. I’d hire her based on today’s experience. The pub itself, was clean and spacious. The toilets clean. The ambiance spot on. We will definitely drop in next time I’m in London. Thank you.

A lovely busy pub with lovely experienced barstaff who are helpful to the less mobile of their customers, catering for both cash and card payments also has a lovely beer garden for those people who prefer outside drinking. One to visit whilst in Lower Marsh, you won't be disappointed!

We needed a rest after exploring Leake Street and the Vaults and wandered along Lower Marsh Street. We were pleasantly surprised to find this pub which was having a quiet day. We enjoyed our drinks in the quiet of the beer garden where there was only one other customer. It was a little bit of peace in the hustle and bustle of the city.

I don't usually leave negative reviews but I'm not happy with my recent experience. I was having a quiet drink solo (I had to be within a few minutes walk from the woman I care for whilst she was out with a friend so my location was limited). I noticed at some time around 20:15pm, the music had been turned off and the lights were being turned off...it sounded like the staff were closing down for the night but nobody had told me the bar was closing soon (or as far as I know, any other customers that may have been outside) . At almost 20:30pm I ended up asking 'are you closing?', to the staff (who by this time were ready to walk out the door), they said 'yes', I asked 'when?' And they said 'now!'... I asked if they usually close at this time and they said 'it just depends how busy it is', I appreciate if there's only one customer then it isn't exactly beneficial to stay open but I'd expect the staff to at least give the customers a heads up before the whole bar is completely closed up and they're ready to walk out the door.

I visited last week and seemed to have beaten the lunchtime rush Unfortunately I was the only person in there - but they were without a chef, so that may have w something to do with it. A simple inside layout that leads to a lovely little beer garden out the back. The barmaid was happy to chat with me while I was there and seemed reasonable cheerful - if not bored. The Guinness, and I'm going with it being the first one poured for the day, was excellent.

Good find in the area. Lots of competition in Lower Marsh Street but this pub stands out. It's a long narrow bar fitted out close to the Antic style but not a formula pub. Lots of screens. The one closest seemed to be showing a 90's fat Michael Gove talking about timing belts. I wasn't drunk. Honest. Beer prices are reasonable, for the area. Service was fast (it wasn't particularly busy). Will definitely go again.

A place to avoid if you want to watch sport. We thought it was a good place near waterloo to catch a champions league game which would be a bit quieter than other places. They waited until we had ordered a big round and then changed which game they were going to show 2 minutes before kick off. The staff weren't even apologetic - it honestly felt like they told us they were going to show the game we wanted so we'd buy drinks. Not the sort of service I would expect. We won't be coming back.

Not bad pub located near Waterloo Station. Came here on a Sunday to watch the football. Was nice enough but would not write home about the service, person behind the bar could not care less about a single patron there or anything for that matter. Alright drinks on offer, cocktails on tap and regular pints of beer and cider you expect. They ran out of glasses and decided to serve one of the cocktails in a small wine glass with pure foam too... Not great. What kept it alive was the atmosphere inside, probably just because of the football to be honest. Toilets were beyond disgusting. Follow me on Google Maps for more reviews

🚇 Lambeth North 🍺 £5.90 Amstel ❤️ A contemporary Waterloo boozer. . The Camel & Artichoke is situated mid terrace on Lower Marsh around the back of Waterloo station. The nearest Tube is Lambeth North, but I would recommend to travel to Waterloo Station and walk through atmospheric Leake Street tunnel to see some of London’s finest graffiti. . This pub was built in 1864 and started life as The Artichoke. The Camel was added to the pubs name in 2007 but for what reason I don’t know. . Although the pubs facade is beautifully Victorian the interior is modern with a slight industrial feel. The pub has a wood floor throughout, grey panelled and wallpapered walls and the servery is on the left hand side. There are a few screens dotted around the walls which show live sport on match days. At the rear of the pub is a heated beer garden with large circular benches. . The beer line up was all keg with a few craft options and Guinness. I ordered an Amstel, my pint was great and cost under six quid. This pub offers loads of drinks promos including 50p off pints on a Wednesday, hump day anyone? . The atmosphere was quiet on this Saturday afternoon with only myself and a few others in attendance. The soundtrack was R&B and the kings coronation was on mute on the TV. I was served by a nice member of staff, even though is was quiet she was all smiles. . I need to return the @camelandartichoke on another day as I feel this place comes to life in the evenings. If anyone on here has visited it would be great to hear about it. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 06/05/23

First time getting bevs at The Camel & Artichoke and I am 100% returning. Lovely vibes and decently priced drinks for a central location, BUT it was Jackie's top notch service that won me over (and I never write reviews). Gosh what a wonderful woman - you know when you can just tell someones got a heart of gold? That's Jackie. I don't know what Jackie's job title is (she needs a promotion), but it's rare to come across a watering hole these days where the lovely folk working there give you landlady energy that makes you feel like you are settled in right at home. After a day out with the kids, we were looking for a quiet spot to sit down and enjoy some pub grub. We were very happy to find a quiet pub to set down in however the menu didn’t match their online description and it was cheese toasted, soups and sides. I wasn’t totally enthused at first but I have to say, what we ate was really really tasty! We had the tomato soup and a French onion. They were both a hit. We had spicy Smokey cheese toasties, a brisket toastie and some of their fried potato - again, delicious. The downside of my review was the service, as it was non-existent. The bar lady wasn’t attentive at all, chatting away and sitting on the sofa on her phone. We had our dinner boards in front of us for 2 hours and they weren’t cleared up. There was an issue in the men’s room (that was spotless when we arrived). It looked as though someone had vomited on the floor or urinated. I told the bar man immediately and he said “oh yeah I know, it flooded. Someone left the tap on. I am not a plumber” and walked off. Funnily enough, there was a mop just sitting there next to the sofa which would have certainly helped the situation! Nice pub, lots of potential. Not so good service.

The pub is in a sweet location, lovely street, close to Waterloo station, and it’s actually quite nice. We ordered some grilled sandwiches and soups that were good. We also enjoyed the old school hip hop and r&b playlist. The service was very bad though. There were two members of staff on the floor that seemed completely careless. After we finished our food nobody cleared the table for the three hours we were there, and by the time we left there was a pile of plates and glasses on the table. One of the member’s of the staff was just sitting looking at her phone non-stop, very rude.

Mondays, prices are reduced by 50%, which is the only time this place offers anything close to reasonable value. A quick glance at their online menu reveals a shockingly limited selection. The prices are exorbitant, yet the food quality is more akin to a cafeteria than even a mediocre cafe.
