The Cambrian Tap in Cardiff

Seems to be under new owner ship, local couple so know more about their clientele and their needs. Also they’re very friendly. Bar staff are also very good especially the lady whose serves in the afternoon. Beer is well kept and reasonably priced for town. Clientele are friendly and varied. If I have to make one minor niggle is that it doesn’t need music ! It stands in its own as a talkers pub.

Popped in for a few local brews with friends. Ended up staying all evening! Great friendly atmosphere.! Amazing staff & fabulous management!!! Made us all feel so welcome!! A great evening had by us all & we will be visiting again!!! Considering its in the town centre, it's perfect! No trouble, just Great vibes and fab music!! Karaoke was sooo funny! Even the staff get involved! They have Kareoke on a Thurs & Sat every week! Thanks Guys 😘

A great little pub for Ale and Cider drinkers, they do have larger but I believe there are only one or two choices. Small and quirky, a “proper pub” rather than the soulless bars that surround.

Went to this pub for the six nations 18 March. What a great atmosphere and friendly staff made us welcome and a great day.

Visited this place during a trip away with my husband to start off the Christmas season. They had hardly any drinks available. Seemed to be out of everything . The staff were slow, looked clueless and spent a lot of time on their phones. Their was also lots of swearing coming from staff members which was very off putting. The disabled toilet was not in use and it was absolutely freezing inside. Definitely won’t be visiting again which is a shame because the building is beautiful. What a waste

What a load of options! Lovely people and great staff. Especially Kay. Came in after a long journey & fought off some hounds along the way. We were settled in with a fresh few beveraginas & partied like mad. We left the premises admirably. But none the less, it was a special occasion. MANY THANKS!

Great location, a few shabby tables outside on Caroline St that do get the sun. Mainly fancy ales and lager that would cost more that a normal pub, but it’s good honest beer, the staff are lovel. Drink a couple , have a chat - that sort of pub

Pretty much in the heart of Cardiff where you are stuck between eating & drinking. Before COVID, we played games, drank new beers nearly every week & chilled after work hours. This place was and still is amazing as well as important.

My husband and I got caught in the rain on a Sunday and decided to hid inside the Cambrian. This was an amazing find. The staff is amazing, the food is more than great, the board games helps with the laughter and the sunday open...

As part of our tasting of local real ales, this was very nice indeed. After tasting I made my choices. The beers were excellent, the pub is nicely done out, with a giant floor to ceiling blackboard showing a history of their real ales.

The original Cambrian was one of the most infamous bars in Cardiff. An eclectic mix of ladies of the night, homeless and miscellaneous others. Nobby, an enormous elderly homeless man, with a white beard, used to bring his Tesco's trolley into the bar!

Another fantastic visit to The Cambrian Tap. Thoroughly enjoy talking to the staff, they make you feel very welcome regardless of how busy they are! I've read a few reviews regarding pricing, I personally believe this is one of the cheaper craft beer bars in Cardiff, occasionally prices increase, but this tends to be for the higher alcohol content products - 'Spresso - Beavertown - My favourite!!!

My favourite pub in Cardiff. Good selection of beer, very helpful and pleasant staff, price comparable to other city centre pubs and good value if you opt for a Brains branded beer. The Brain's Barry Island IPA is fantastic! They offer pies, mash n gravy but I haven't tried.

When the beer is good I like this place, however as it's Brains managed and run you can never guarantee a good pint as they rotate the beers so often.

In a city not blessed with great boozers, the Cambrian Tap is a reliable pub offering a really good selection of drinks: plenty of beers and ales - several porters and stouts when I last visited as they had had a festival. Welsh brewing is well represented and there are beers from around the UK too. Prices are on the high side.

Visited on Sunday to witness the acoustic open mic event. Stav, the guitarist was incredible and played some classics! Another great visit

We loved our visit to this typical local pub. The exterior is very old with an upgraded interior and counter. Nice and helpful staff always willing to give you a taste of any of their many beers. Lots of local and imported options. Very close to the Brewery Quarter in the center of town. Would like to go earlier next time to try their locally made pies (meat, chicken and many other options) but the kitchen was closed when we arrived. Great reviews of the pies!

Went along to the comedy show, which is put on the first Tuesday of each month. The acts were hilarious! The pub had a great atmosphere and staff were helpful and as friendly as ever. Quickly becoming my favourite place to visit.

Been here on few occasions and must admit that apart from good craft beer, whisky and drink selection this place is definitely worth a visit. Every single time level of customer service was splendid. AJ and rest of the team (apologises of not mentioning names) are always helpful and happy to advise what you might like depending on your taste. If you don't like craft beer or nice whiskey, well you might as well go to off licence and get a drink (bare in mind nothing wrong with that either lol) but if you do fancy something different then that's the place to visit, ideally if you can get a table then sit down, relax and enjoy whatever you have! Awesome bar, great atmosphere, with a big selection of craft and traditional beers/ciders. Staff were very knowledgeable and really friendly. We went back on Sunday afternoon for their acoustic open mic and saw some seriously talented people!

So I went here on a visit to the area, and it was absolutely amazing! Great staff and great food and drink. I heard it was a nice place to head to for relaxing times, and I didn't kill my wallet!

£2-20 for a cranberry mixer wow how to rip off the punters especially the visitors complained but just told that's the price nearly as dear as the vodka avoid this place

Amazing place, great variety of IPAs to try, and very warm welcome from friendly staff. Not a huge place, so it can get a little busy at times, but well worth a visit if you are in Cardiff.

We went here on Friday evening for a drink with family and a bite to eat. There was a nice relaxed vibe and good quality drinks and food. I really appreciated that they had Seedlip (non alcoholic spirit) on offer as not many places do and it was a refreshing change from the usual soft drinks you get left with when you aren’t drinking. They only have a pie and mash menu but the pies were delicious and we were very happy to eat pie. We did get a very small portion of mash but I think that might have been due to them running out but still wanting to accommodate us. (However if that is their standard portion I would be looking for more really! ) The staff were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. There was music but it wasn’t too loud which is hard to find in a city centre on a Friday evening. I would recommend this place if you are in the area.

I'd have stayed here all evening if possible. On a tour of pubs in Cardiff, this was on the list. If I was you... I'd ad it to yours too! A great little boozer with a decent range of ales. The seating booths are comfy and the clientele are friendly. It is clean and slightly quirky.

Have recently visited the Cambrian Tap and was served by the most charming barman, A.J. (Alexander James ). When I told him that my Grandfather Ted (Edward) Edwards was the landlord there back in 1922 he was most interested and photographed my two ancient snaps of the place. It is obviously rather different to how it would have been in my Grandparents day but it still had a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. A real Pub ! My Mother, who grew up there, had regaled me with so many family stories about the place. Thankyou A.J. Long may it continue !

Cambrian Tap is easily my favourite pub in all of Cardiff. The staff is friendly and they always offer tasters if you’re unsure what you want to drink.

Bought tickets for Cambrian Tap's Oktoberfest. The venue was decorated superbly with staff members dressing up in traditional lederhosens too! A great alternative to the real thing. 5 fantastic German beers on, can't wait to come back next weekend!

Visited here last night a lot longer than intended. Due to the wide selection on drinks and the friendliness and service from the staff. I have to pick out a staff member, Ciaran, who made the visit very welcoming and answered all questions about drinks. Couldn’t have ask for more from him.

An historic old pub in Cardiff. Couple of years ago they revamped it and the beer selection is top notch. Perhaps a little expensive, and not the widest selection of non-ale drinks. You'll do well to get a table on a busy Friday or Saturday, but its well worth the visit to check out.

We met as a large group right after a conference on a Monday night (of a bank holiday). Much bigger crowd than they were expecting, since there was only one guy on for the bar and the kitchen. Food was available only till 8pm, and they have a very limited menu of meat pies (with a vegetarian option). The bartender was a bit overwhelmed with all our food and drink orders, and yet he kept a super-positive attitude throughout the night, never failing to greet us with a smile or an answer to our questions. Class act. Nice, quieter feel, wide variety of beers and ciders. Will return.

We have now visited this awesome pub a few times. There is a great range of drinks both on tap and bottled. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. And the pies are fantastic.

One of the Brains craft outlets- different from their usual Victorian style pubs. Good choice of beers,ciders,lagers. Knowledgeable staff. Get a "flight" of 3 third pint glasses to try more styles.

This is a great urban pub serving great beer, and has interesting decor and atmosphere. It's stocked with Brain's Craft Brewery beers, and has a great mural explaining them all. Really enjoyed the craft beers of Old Oat and Hop on yer Bike.

Recently visited to get a drink before one of the Ed Sheeran concerts. Place is a hidden gem with nice seating and Brains Craft beers. My only disappointment was that I was driving so I will definitely be back to sample some of my favourite craft beers.

Came across this place whilst walking into Cardiff from Central station at lunchtime. A friendly welcome, a wonderful range of real beers and other drinks and various pies. Nothing special about the food but the range of drinks and atmosphere more than makes up for that and when it comes down to it, it is not a foody place. I loved it and hope it is still the same when I return to Cardiff.

We were on our one-day trip to Cardiff to check it off of our bucket list and went to about 3 different “pubs” before we finally stumbled upon The Cambrian Tap. Can I just say wow, Cardiff is an odd, conservative place and everyone we had met was quick to remind us that they had voted FOR Brexit. This made for a weird experience BUT go chat with the people at The Cambrian Tap to meet some great locals who live and breathe Cardiff everyday and bestow some kindness upon a weary traveler. If you’re lucky, AJ will gove the best recommendations for beer and cocktails and make your experience even better. Cheers!

Quickly becoming my new favourite place to pop by for a beer/cider. Always new things on, even day to day, and lots of them I’ve never seen or heard of before. Staff are always friendly and happy to guide your choice to taste.

Stopped here during a weekend in Cardiff, such a great place! Fine beer on show and staff that had great knowledge of what they were serving. Fantastic venue, great beer and great staff. I would give it a 13/10

I visited the Cambrian recently with friends and we all agreed this place is one of the best pubs in Cardiff! There is a huge range of beers available and the Manager James was really knowledgable and helpful in recommending us drinks. Will definetly be back soon!

It was packed to the rafters, and the beers were horrid, we actually left them on the bar. Maybe just bad choice but won't go back there

I've been here a couple of times, once when it opened and recently. The beers definitely feel like they have branched out, and they are trying new flavours that are unique (peanut butter, salted caramel, raspberry ripple: which sound desserty but are great). The interior is on the small size, but on a quiet day is cosy. They do not play music, so it's a great place to enjoy a quiet drink.

This pub is fantastic, located in the heart of Cardiff, at one end of "Chip Alley". From the outside it looks like a traditional pub, but take a look through the window, and feast your eyes upon the beer taps. Not a mass produced lager, beer or stout in sight.

Had the immense pleasure to fall upon this lovely bar after the recent wales Scotland game! The beers were great, the selection perfect but what made it better, was the limit on people in there meaning good serving times and space! I must however reserve special credit to Ashley the evenings doorman. He was pleasent in the door, tried to filter out any potential issues at the door, and most Impressive was the way he stopped a fight brewing inside, by calmly talking the aggressive party down, and ushering them out without so much as a spilt drop of beer, or many people noticing. Such skill is rare, doormen always get bad press and never the good reviews, well this man deserves the plaudits for ensuring a great day remained a great evening and is a credit to his trade! The bar should be proud of him. Thanks for a great evening

Great selection of beers here and cosy little pub. Staff and manager knew their ale's unlike most pubs in the City centre. Keep returning now as it's a new favourite!

Brilliant place... Come here often especially as they allow dogs in!! Our four legged pals love it as well and always offered a doggy bowl to quench their thirst just like the humans! The beers and ciders change regularly and offer a wide variety of choice.. and don't forget the pies!

Well done Brains. I don't know what you've done to change things in the Cambrian Tap but it is now the best venue for beers in Cardiff! There was a time when this venue didn't live up to its billing but it now has a good choice of very good ales, including some great stouts and porters at last. The staff are very knowledgable about the beers and clearly enjoy their work - such a breath of fresh air considering the poor service in many other bars. During my last visit I was also made aware of the various events coming up at the Cambrian Tap too, including a weekend dedicated to stouts and porters - I can't wait! Well done Brains! Keep up the good work!

Came here on a Tuesday night. One of the best selections of keg & cask beers I have seen in Cardiff. Staff were attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Cameron in particular, was extremely enthusiastic and went above & beyond throughout our visit. The two pies we ordered were fantastic and were paired perfectly with our beers. Looking forward to the Beer & Cheese pairing this month.

We visited the Cambrian Tap on a quiet imd week evening. The service was excellent with the staff very pleasant and engaging. With the beers at the pub, the staff were knowledgable and advised on what was available.

On Saturday 25th November, Wales v All Blacks rugby. I Left game early and visited The Cambrian Tap. Had a round of drinks with two colleagues and ordered another. I then stepped outside for a cigarette with one of my colleagues.

It's always good to find a beer I've not tried before, and there were several here. It is also refreshing to find a bar where you can ask for a suggestions, based on preferences {although I wouldn't suggest this when busy, as there's nothing more annoying as a customer than the person before you taking twenty minutes to discuss their potential half of mild}. Each pump had a small jar in front containing the ale concerned, so you can judge by colour and shade. Very helpful.
