Cote Brasserie - Cardiff Central in Cardiff

Went there for new year’s eve. Not really worth it. Food was 50/50. overcrowded, staff was doing their best, but place is badly managed so everyone were looking lost. It felt like our table was forgotten, asked for cutlery 3 times, other tables had water with glasses, i had to ask for it.

The venue and food was lovely , not a single fault at all with it ! However … we arrived early and being in the trade ourselves we knew we booked at a time and knew we wouldn’t expect a food order straight away. On arrival we were asked if anyone had an allergy, to my response yes I do and would need to tell them and be told what I can and can’t have . We waited 45/50 minutes for a drink order to be made .. because we asked .. and also asked if we could have water on the table . Finally asked if we were ready to order … I still hadn’t been informed about allergens, anyway we ordered our food which not a single person had a complaint.. luckily enough as there wasn’t a single check back on our table . We had to wave to someone if we needed more drinks , we all felt completely forgotten about being in the back of upstairs seating areas but could see other tables having amazing service, the one waiter ( I don’t know his name ) when we would wave him over from his section was lovely . We had the manager serving our table and as a manager we thought it was be pretty good as they have to set a standard, extremely disappointed with service but food was stunning !

We have visited this branch several times and have always enjoyed out visit, but this time was a huge disappointment, as we waited 20 minutes for any service to order drinks or have our cutlery, then waited 45 minutes of rour food to arrive, narrowly almost missing a concert we had booked. The food was only warm when it arrived. I had to go find a waiter to get our food served and then had to go find another waiter to pay our bill. We refused to pay the service charge, as there was no service!

A culinary gem offering delicious food, amazing service, and a cozy setting! Each dish was crafted with care, making the dining experience truly unforgettable.

It feels like Paris in Cardiff. Food was excellent. The wine we had was excellent. Take care not to order the very overpriced IOP wines. The toilets were grim.

Delicious Breakfast at Côte, service was amazing & food was incredible! Would recommend the Breakfast Cassoulet - “A slow-cooked haricot bean stew from south-west France. Baked eggs with smoked Toulouse sausage, tomato, harissa & herbs, served with toasted seeded sourdough.”

I can't praise Cote enough. We held my best friend's hen do meal here and had the best experience. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the staff were so accommodating. They allowed us decorate the table early and welcomed my friend with a complimentary bottle of prosecco to say congratulations. Our waitress Parissee (?) was an absolute star for the entire meal. She helped me choose the tastiest non-alcoholic cocktails (I'm pregnant) and helped get information from the chefs for me about the food. All in all, a fantastic meal out!! Thank you team Cote.

Absolutely awful service. Waited more than 30 minutes for our mains. Customers who had arrived much later than us got all their food earlier. We stood up and left. Also, it was very loud on the main floor.

We were a party of 8 girlfriends celebrating Christmas. We had been the previous year and it was fabulous so we decided to return. Disappointed is quite an understatement. We had previously preordered our three courses. We were sat for our booking time of 13.00, however we asked a few times when our food would be served and eventually our starters arrived at 13.50 by which time we were quite hungry. Ben our waiter was really apologetic and said that a larger party upstairs had been served before us and that they were really busy and had people off sick. The starters were mediocre. I’ve got to say that my brûlée Camembert was absolutely fine. (You can’t possibly go wrong with such a simple dish!) Some of the rest of the party were not so satisfied with other starters. Our main courses arrived at 14.35 and was not that amazing to say the least. The so called confit potatoes were too hard to eat and had obviously been over cooked. My roast Turkey wrapped in bacon with a chestnut stuffing was again over cooked and hence dry. The whole dish was far from perfect. We complained about the potato dish and the lovely waiter again very apologetic said that he’d go to the kitchen and get us some other roast potatoes. All very well but we didn’t have them until we had virtually finished our main courses. Desert was an absolute joke in my case. I had ordered the clementine mess. I had 2 little slices of clementine, not even segments. Again very disappointing,to say the least. This was not a cheap meal. We paid £39.95 even though it was advertised on line at £ 37.95. This had been queried but it was said that this was a different price in the Cardiff branch. That’s not right-is it ?

Cosy atmosphere, excellent service, select yet varied menu, freshly made and beautifully presented meals. Highly recommended. Particular thanks to Bart and Grace for their professionalism and kindness on a very busy night. We will return!

We were warmly welcomed, the staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the food & wine menu. The ambience of the restaurant is really warming, comfortable seats and nice lighting. The lunch menu is excellent value and very tasty, I well recommend.

A booking for 4 had been made following our visit to take the 'Pobol y Cwm ' set tour. We were greeted on our arrival snd taken to our table. We were given time to peruse the menu and ordered a bottle of delicious house wine. We all gave our choices from the menu and we were waited on and looked after very well. The food was delicious and will definitely return.

Pretty awful. Came here tonight with my friend, not only did it take an hour for us to have our order taken, we were not checked in on at all. We were the only customers awaiting to be served, everyone else had already been served and eating their meal. The people that had been served were also very few tables, it was not busy, no reason for us to have an hour wait to be taken for our orders, as people who work in hospitality ourselves we tried to be understanding but it was made very clearly that they did not bother nor want us there, very uncomfortable atmosphere. As well as what I stated above, one of the waitresses thought it would be funny to loudly make a joke about "slitting her wrists" as a person with scars and a long history of self harm it's absolutely disgusting to hear people joke about it, especially someone who works in the establishment, you really need to check your staff. We took the service charge off for all of this, food was bland along side everything else, a really unpleasant disgusting experience to be honest.

Cote Brasseries in all locations visited so far are great quality authentic French food.

Prix fix menu is delicious and at a good price. Proportions aren’t that big (makes sense), but it’s worth it for the quality of the food.

Buzzing atmosphere on a Saturday evening with large contingent from France for Sunday's 6 Nations fixture. Very good food and service, small drinks list but some nice choices. Sancerre Rose recommended.

Absolutely wonderful. We were a party of 14, so the restaurant asked if we could submit our orders in advance, to help with the speed of service, but were very accomodating and responded to queries almost immediately. The service was impeccable, with friendly and cheerful staff. The food was lovely, well presented and tasty, and reasonably priced for a restaurant in the centre of Cardiff. Maybe a bit limited in vegetarian options, but there were 4 vegetarians in our party and they were very happy with their choices. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

We did the Steak deal and my word! It's a great deal. Order 2 steaks, 2 sauces and 2 sides and you get a free bottle of wine! We did this twice for 4 of us and had the best deal meal of our holiday. Service charming, although we could see that the staff had to work hard! Busy and modestly staffed. They had run out of fillet steaks by the time we arrived, but the sirloin was good too

It was so good the French onion soup to the steak woowwww. If o had space for dessert I would of had it haha.

What a little gem. I didn’t know about this restaurant until I visited today with friends. A table had been booked for 21 of us. I had a house white and my friend a house rose. They were both lovely wines. Most of us ordered the two-course special at £17.95. I had chicken in a mushroom sauce with chips and dessert was crepe’s. We had a slight wait but it was because it was freshly cooked - beautiful. All the staff were superb even when we all wanted to pay separately. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be visiting again.

This is one of our ‘go to’ restaurants in Cardiff. We have never been disappointed with the food which has always been beautifully cooked. We tend to choose from the a la carte menu, but there is a lunchtime special menu available . Quite a good wine list.

The food was okay not great. We had steak frites for mains and I was disappointed it did not come with sauce, I found it quite dry. I went here for my mums and brother birthday and did write this on our reservations but felt that it was not acknowledged. Overall, the staff were lovely

Booked well in advance table for six adults upon arrival we were seated promptly, great seats and lovely surroundings. Wasn’t busy at all our young waitress eventually asked us if we’d like some drinks these were brought to us soon after When we were ready to order our food we asked for sides of bread and garlic bread to be brought to us prior to our starters. We ordered some drinks again at the same time along with a jug of water. The drinks were again served promptly, didn’t take the several empty bottles already placed waiting for her. One of the sides was brought out shortly when we asked for the jug of water again as we still hadn’t received it. Five minutes later we asked her where the garlic bread was, as we hadn’t received that either. Twenty minutes later our main meals turned up along with the garlic bread still no water. We wasn’t asked how our meals were whilst eating them. The meals were small and bland and the service throughout was nonexistent our first and last visit to cote. Service was so poor that my daughter was adamant that I requested to remove the service charge something I’ve never done before Very poor

It’s quite a nice French style restaurant. The steak was a bit too hard which I didn’t really enjoy. The starter was quite delicious though. The sides were quite basic and normal. The tomatoes were serve just as how they are. The staff was quite kind.However they took too long to serve the food.

Disappointing experience from an avid Cote fan. Service abysmal that put a real damper on evening which is a shame as prior visits to Cotes all over the UK have always been so positive. The evening was captured best with “Can we” “Can we order drinks please”? “Can we order food please”? “Can we order another bottle of wine please”? “Can we order desserts please”? You would think they don’t want to run a business! The restaurant was not busy and there were plenty of staff - just noone doing their job attentively. No one checked on us and we really weren’t looked after. Cardiff Bay provides a much better experience. To top it off the restaurant closes at 10pm on a Friday night - what is that about? So no after dinner drinks or a coffee. I would have thought 11pm would be standard. Very worried about the manager who is possibly unwell with a terrible tremor to his hands when serving our plates. Hope he is ok.

Food was ok but nothing special. It was expensive for what we got and the flavours were nothing to write home about. I won't be looking to return - not because it was bad, but because there are better places out there with better value and more tasty food than this.

Grace was an excellent hostess! Booked for a Saturday night, and she provided us with great service. The food was great, and would highly recommend the chocolate mousse for dessert and crispy whitebait and calamari as the starters. Can't wait to return again :)

I like the French toasts with berries and vanilla cream fresh, you have to try them

Went here with a large group of traveling overseas tourists. Had to pre order from two options. So ordered the ratatouille. The dish I was served was nothing like a ratatouille. Happy that I could change my dish, but was disappointed that the ratatouille wasn't what i expected. Wish we could have ordered from more options, as what we were offered was very basic. We are paying a bomb for this tour, and I expected more!!

My friend and I had a lovely time at Cote. We had a lovely welcome on our arrival, we're able to choose a table. We were served by the lovely Lara, who gave us good advice about our drinks and food. We had the set menu and both courses were delicious. The room ambience was delightful.

I go here one or two times a month, what I like about it is that it does not usually require a booking and is peaceful and not overcrowded at lunch unless an obviously busy day like an event or sunny weekend. I usually get the set menu, but have on occasions branched out. The service is usually good, but never stand out and usually the same experience applies for the food. I've actually had a few bad experiences over the years here with rude staff e.g. one time when meeting friends here the guy at reception was very rude to me stopped me from entering the restaurant as he said they was full blocking the entrance, I said I was meeting friends and then he asked me who the reservation name was under, as there were like six people it could be and I did not know everyones last name in the group, which I explained, also did not have my phone on me as he told me to ring them and he said I could not come in. Luckily my friend had saw from inside the restaurant barged past the rude receptionist and said he's with us and took me to the table. On another occasion while eating with family some of the dishes came out cold and the waitress also snapped at my sister telling her to move her plate and it was obvious she needed to move her plate. So she could put down the food, actually no so obvious when you are trying to have a conversation. I would never go here for breakfast again as they can never seem to get poached eggs right, despite being specific on what I wanted. As in runny in the centre with all the egg white cooked, and not partially cooked on the outside with some snotty egg whites still on the inside. I highly suggest the restaurant get the temperature and timings right for this, as its not that difficult and not repeatedly bring out wrongly cooked eggs after the third attempt they brought out a hard boild egg. Also if you want breakfast Bills do a better eggs Benedict with a full piece of cured ham on each egg for the same price not little shreds of ham sprinkled on top like COTE. And they managed to sort out some consistency on their poached eggs.

I had a wonderful birthday at Cote today. Honestly couldn’t have asked for anything better, I felt overjoyed with the service and attentiveness. I don’t drink alcohol and they offered a complimentary bottle of 0% sparkling wine for the non drinkers on the table and then a bottle of fizz for the drinkers for my birthday and a birthday brownie and ice cream, even received a card from Cote. So thankful for the staff and I would definitely return for a birthday again and recommended to anyone looking for somewhere for a celebration. Thank you so much.

Excellent authentic French food and great selection of wines. Even try their fixed price menu - great value.

Not to the standard I expected given the general decor. The food took far too long to arrive. I would expect an establishment of this type to know that hot food goes on hot plates, not on cold or lukewarm plates. It was not clear that there is a 10% service charge added to the bill - it is on the bill itself, in small print, at the bottom where it says "a 10% optional service charge has been added to the bill". Ordinarily I would have questioned this at the time of payment had i seen it or been aware of it - the lighting is not exactly bright enough to be able to see clearly everything om the bill, the total is in much bigger print and as it was within budget I didn't query it. If a service charge is optional it should be at the point of payment to be asked if you want to pay it - other establishments have this option on the card reader and there is no reason to be so secretive about it. Those reasons are sufficient for me to say that I would not rush back.

Went for lunch with 2 friends yesterday. Starter of scallops disappointing (very small & not seared) but nothing compared to the main course of mussels that were rank, clearly off and were smelt before seen. Sent back and waited 45 minutes for replaced order of salad nicoise with tuna that was dry and over cooked. The only shining light in this debacle was our waitress, Miya. She was attentive, kind and embarrassed. Will never recommend Cote or waste £££ again

Food was very good but I wished if they served it more quickly

Booked a table ahead of the pink concert on the 11th June 2024. We arrived at 5.15pm which allowed us nearly 2 hours before we needed to leave. Our initial impression wasn’t good, then it got worse as time went on. Upon arrival we were greeted by the host, gave our details and then waited along with everybody else to be seated, the original host disappeared upstairs and after around 5 mins we were asked by now a different host if we had a reservation, we complied and were told they would see if our table was ready. 2nd host went upstairs and came back promptly to say it will be 5 mins. We patiently watched everybody be seated, those who arrived before and after us. After around 20 mins of waiting, the same 2nd host came over to us to ask if he could help us! Obviously he had no recollection of us so we again shared our details. We were then seated within 5 mins in what looked like a half empty upstairs. We quickly decided our drinks and food orders knowing time was quickly passing and had ordered by 5.45pm. A forcasse was ordered to come out with only the mains ordered (belly pork, salmon and 2 x stroganoff) this was delivered within 10 mins. The bread sat untouched on the table for the next 30 mins whilst we watched everybody get there orders. During this time our original waitress paid no attention to us at all. At 6.30pm we managed to grab the attention of another waitress (Mia) who listened to our queries, they checked the iPad, initally not being able to find our order then eventually finding it after a lot of up and down scrolling. Mia then told us they would go and find out the issue in the kitchen, they returned to confim ours was being cooked and would be out ASAP. We completely understand there was a wait on food as the restaurant was extremely busy but when people who arrived approx 15mins later than us recieved their food, we knew there was a problem. We were offered a round of drinks which we declined as we were quickly running out of time before the concert, Mia then suggested due to the fact we were approaching an hour after ordering we speak to the manager. The gentleman that arrived was the same person who greeted us ‘host 1’ who listened and told us he would sort something out on the bill. The food eventually arrived at 6.55pm, 3 out of the 4 meals were luke warm and despite the offer of it being warmed up again by Mia, we just didn’t have time. Mia said they would sort the bill and how sorry they were. We ate minimal food as it was discusting and promptly left. We can’t thank Mia enough as they solely tried, but unfortunately we left hungry and disappointed after waiting for nearly 2 hours. Worst experience and tainted our whole evening.

Had a meal before going to the P!nk concert. It was obviously super busy but meal was served promptly and was absolutely delicious. We all had the same, sea bass with a side of their triple cooked chips. Thank you so much.

When I am in Cardiff I usually eat at Côte, either in the city centre or down in Cardiff Bay. Both are great. Yesterday's visit (20 June 2024) was as good as ever, the welcome, the ambience, the food and our server, Dean. He made us feel like valued guests, and was very professional in his work.

Went yesterday, service was terrible. About 5 groups of people eating at restaurant, so empty. We ordered food at 5:50, we didnt get steak until 6:30, 40 minutes to fry 4 steaks when no one else was there was so slow, we told multiple waitresses and other members of staff if they could speed up the process due to the fact we have a concert that starts at 7. We didnt get the desert until 6:53, 7 minutes before the concert started. Completely ruined the experience because of how stressed we were, we missed the beginning of the concert due to this. I usually like cote and think their service is good, but this was appalling.

The team are lovely. My guest has a number of allergies and they brought them a tablet where they could check every ingredient. I have not seen that before. A wonderful option. My steak was perfectly cooked.

Ate from set menu. Food was nice and plentiful. Waiters seemed to have a problem holding onto things, with lots of dropped plates, glassware and even a huge tray of desserts whilst we were there which made it for a lively experience dodging the flying debris if nothing else

Mid shop lunch - very slick. I had beef bourginon W mash. Very tasty. Also more recently went for early start brunch when Wales played Scotland. Had such a good time I forgot to take photos. the supervisor or manager did the booking as we were a walk in. I told her that I had a dairy intolerance and then i was served the steak and frites with butter all over the steak. The table host wasn’t informed. the meal was replaced but I had already lost my appetite by that point and i was asked if i was finished with the dish less than 5 minutes after the food arrived. Wouldn’t recommend because of the lack of professionalism and caution for food allergies and intolerances.

Very happy with the Cardiff central restaurant every time! The service is speedy (so perfect when we're on a time limit at work) and food options are healthy in comparison to other restaurants in town. 10/10 would recommend.

Can’t recommend enough!! The customer service was outstanding and the food was even better! Makes a lovely setting for a date night and the menu had something for everyone. I went for the beef cheek bourguignon and it was one of the best meals I’ve ever had, 100% recommend. Special mention to our waitress Ginny, she had briefly mentioned she was relatively new, never would have guessed, amazing.

Absolutely delicious food and cocktails. We were lucky enough to sit outside in the glorious weather. Inside the restaurant were ample seating and beautifully presented and decorated with an upstairs area too. Toilet facilities, spotless. Staff were very polite, friendly and accommodating. We were impressed as a first visit and plan to return with family.

I have been to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We were in 4. My daughter (11) was so happy that she received a birthday card, which made her experience ever better. We had 3 steaks with fries and pasta. This time, my daughter steak (type of meat) was different from last time. Everything was very good. Great customer service and, in particular, great manager (I believe he is the manager: great person). Another good reason to come back is for their staff: very polite and make feeling you very welcome. We had again a great experience, and we look forward to coming back.

We hadn’t eaten at Cote for quite a while , so we decided to try it . What a great decision , we had the “ Sunday Deal” , half a roast chicken , 8oz sirloin steak and belly pork to share , with dauphinoise potatoes and 2 sides of spinach and green beans . We were asked how we wanted the steak , we said rare and it was perfect , the chicken and belly pork were again cooked perfectly . The accompanying sauces were great , we asked for extra helpings of the mushroom and peppercorn as they were outstanding. We had “ boring “ calamares to start , they were great , tender calamari and lovely crisp coating . The service was fantastic , very friendly yet professional , all in all a great meal

The manager was helpful, but some staff were slow and chatty amongst eachother. I asked to order twice, I asked for a child ice-cream twice and ended up cancelling and getting the bill. They did bring my daughter some crayons and some paper when she became impatient.

Good food, nice staff. I like the decor of Côte restaurants, and their menu too. The two things I didn't like were 1) the volume of the music. It was quiet when I walked in (only one table was occupied). Shortly after I sat down, the volume increased, and it felt more like a nightclub than an early morning at a restaurant. If I could choose a restaurant which doesn't have music, I would... 2) Given that there was plenty of space available, and the tables being pretty close together, I would have preferred it if they didn't seat all customers as they arrived at a table next to occupied ones (i.e. so that all customers are bundled together in one corner of the restaurant). It would be good to have some space when the restaurant isn't very full.

I have come to this restaurant for about 7 times and I am prepared to come at least one time every week, as the Manager Bart has the professional serving attitude and manner and patience to explain the details of the French dishes.

I often come to Cote before a theatre trip or concert for a meal. Used several different locations before and been to Cardiff a few times. Always my first choice due to great service, good menu choices and reasonable prices. Never been let down. Staff are always welcoming, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was busy but it had a lovely atmosphere and everything was great. No complaints at all. A lovely experience as always.

Despite it being an incredibly busy night due to rugby and mother's days we were warmly welcomed even though we were a little early and we had cocktails outside while.we waited. We were promptly showed to our table and everything and everyone was extremely professional and courteous. Special mention should go to our waitress for bubbly personality and maximum efficiency despite the place being full to the rafters - we felt really comfortable and cared for. The menu is nicely varied but the highlights for us were the baked camembert and the cheese board to finish off

A relaxed afternoon celebrating a friends birthday. The service was excellent and the food was great. The main course with a shared bottle of wine was about 36 quid. Although it was busy, you could still have great conversations with your guests, and it didn't feel like you were competing with other tables. They cater for vegan ( first pic) palates as well.

I have been here after being in the one in London. I was very satisfied with the customer service and the high quality of the food.

We booked lunch feb 14th & we were greated by a very charming young man. For I’m the off the service was first class. Food was amazing & our server Bart gave us outstanding service. We chatted with him as he was from Poland & we had recently visited this country. He really made our visit enjoyable from the moment we set foot in the restaurants Will 100% be back as service & food was outstanding. Thanks Bart 👍🏻
