Really great - lovely lunch on a Sunday - my only ‘complaint’ would be that it all came out too fast!

We held our wedding lunch at here on the 12th October 2024, and everything about our lunch was just perfect. The food was out of this world - the pork fat and scotch bonnet on toast was incredible, and the main course lamb, and salted caramel brownie for dessert, utterly delicious. The service was impeccable, with everything happening effortlessly and almost invisibly, meaning we could just focus on the occasion. We’d 100% recommend the CA for private events, and hope to visit again soon for lunch. 10 out of 10!! Thank you!

Just ate at the Camberwell Arms with my boyfriend for a celebratory dinner. We sat at the bar and had starters, mains and pudding. Highlight was the beer onions… also fantastic classic cocktails done so well. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Absolutely amazing! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone on a date, family dinner, or just a casual get together! Our favourites were the Hereford Onglet, deer and partridge. All cooked to perfection. The steak was succulent, not too tough, and really tasty. The meat juices were so good! Desserts were amazing also. I had chocolate mousse. Very dense and dark!

The beef and bone marrow pie, mussels, corn, and pork fat on toast were excellent - albeit a tad too salty. Had a house ginger beer as well, which was sadly quite weak in flavour; the wine was great though!

Service: The staff were friendly, approachable and were helpful when it came to answering questions about the dishes. Main: We ordered the lamb sharer for two. The meat itself was tasty, and the flavour profile was lovely. We were told that it was lamb leg, however it was very fatty and I found it hard to believe it was leg. The portion of lamb was small, definitely not enough for two, so when factoring in the fat there was even less meat. The lamb was sat atop leeks and peas, which were nice, but they were swimming in a very thin watery stock. Sides: The beans with flaked nuts were delicious but overpriced at ~£11. Similarly the heritage tomato dish was overpriced for the size of the portion. I would have been happier paying ~£9 for each dish. Again flavours great, but portions underwhelming. Wine: Excellent selection! Value for money: Poor. £122 for a few small cuts of tasty yet fatty lamb, some beans and tomatoes and a couple of glasses of wine. Left unsatisfied and not full. I personally wouldn’t revisit as there are so many other pubs like the Canton Arms offering similar quality food at a similar price point - yet the offerings are larger.

We have been several times and the food is always so good we decided to have our wedding reception in the upstairs private dining space - we could not have had a more perfect meal! Every single bite was cooked and seasoned to perfection. They use exceptional ingredients. We were lucky enough to have our wedding here and every single little detail of the day was well considered and executed with ease and total style. We thought the communication leading up the day was great, we had lots of information and appreciated being allowed to get in earlier to set up the room. Every person we met or came into contact with was helpful, kind, accommodating and really knowledgeable. Given that we were on a bit of a budget, at no point did we feel we were being pressured to spend more or unnecessarily upgrade wines etc and we really liked that we had a variety of different price options so we could stick within our budget. The fact that we chose the house white for a very reasonable price and everyone still commented on how nice it was demonstrates how well every part of the menu is designed. On the day itself, the food went way beyond expectations and almost every single guest commented on the amazing quality of ingredients ...."how have they made lettuce taste so nice?!". This is some of the best food you can have in London and it is served in a welcoming, familial surroundings which was exactly what we wanted for our wedding. The day and service felt relaxed and warm, it was organised but didn't feel overly regimented and we were so well looked after by everyone. Having a sound system and being allowed to have a low key party into the evening was really nice.

Food was nice enough, but the ordering policy is annoying and took a while to sort out due to most Sunday menu dishes only being offered for sharing between 2 or 3. We had a pre-wedding celebration meal here for 22 people with family and friends and so hired the private room which comes with its own bar (huge plus in South London as not many places do). The Camberwell Arms offered a great value set menu for groups and was perfectly set up for events - we filled out a form opting for a sparkling reception, liaised with us about a table plan and place cards and decorated the table with flowers free of charge. It was an amazing place for our event and we were looked after so well. The food in particular was amazing - everybody commented on it - and perfect for sharing. The staff were just lovely and we were so well looked after, they even provided a playlist for the event. Finally tried the Sunday roast. The chicken was very good. Moist and flavoursome. It was a great roast dinner, obviously, plating was beautiful, however the roast potatoes were stale tasting and had a ‘leftover potatoes’ texture to them, and the asparagus dish was overpriced I think, plus the chicken gravy was too watery, and thin. Needed more body. The food was served in less than 5 mins, so clearly everything was hold held. The entire meal was served pretty cold-warm. Dinner for two cost £80 and I really expected the dish to be perfect, for that price, and it wasn’t. I was a little disappointed I won’t lie. After all the hype.

When people say that London is a rip off, they probably have places like this in mind. For 3 non-alcoholic drinks and tap water, 5 sides and 4 mains (1 to share) we spent a lot of money and left the restaurant with 4/5 people feeling unsatisfied with the portion sizes (we got mains and coffees - no starters or desserts). For example, the jersey royal portion was £11 for 5 tiny potatoes and goats curd smeared on half the plate (if it is meant to be a starter we were not advised that it was not a side, bad service). The chips were good but very expensive considering what they are (£5.80 for a bowl). The lamb was very unappealing (very rare and fatty). The pie is not a pie and only has a top! I also saw the waitstaff cut up bread with bare hands after serving tables (maybe they did wash their hands but who knows), I saw a different waiter put their hand in a drink (presumably to take something off a piece of ice) then serve it to someone anyway and this same waiter touched the spoon part of the spoon when it was handed to me. The restaurant wasn’t even busy at this time. We didn’t get asked if we enjoyed / were enjoying our meal (maybe it was obvious it was rubbish). For atmosphere, the lighting felt quite clinical, and it wasn’t cosy or relaxing at all. Maybe you need to drink the kool-aid to enjoy it here. Definitely would not recommend and quite disappointed considering the hype. Edit: the reason you can’t find my name in your reservations is because I was part of a group and not the person who booked. I also appreciate you reaching out but I don’t want to visit again so not looking for any coupons or discounts via email. The reason for my review is to warn others. Thanks.

My partner and I we went for Roast last Sunday 14th April, booked 4:15, called to said we were running a bit late, which hey said no problem but we must order fast. We arrived 4:25, sat at the counter. Open kitchen. Had still water, onion and cheese toast, took 20’ to come. Server said they run out of chicken. After 1:15 the main arrived, no one let us know it will take that long, the venue wasn’t busy around 20 covers and 5 BOH personnel We ordered the Lamb to share, was cold and below rare, undercooked for a lamb. Asked to please heat and cook a little more, server took the plate to the kitchen and the chef on pass touched with whole hand and took the plate and throwed it in the counter behind him, my parter was watching and he stood up to see if the dish went into the bin and when the Chef saw him place the meat again with his hands on a tray and asked my partner: What?!? Which he said that saw him and what he did and Chef started arguing. A manager apologised and we left as out appetite was shut after all this wrong practice and treatment. Open kitchen was filthy and not looked after. I’ve been working in hospitality for more than 15 years, and did all my life average 60hs/week and treat all staff respectfully and what I’ve witnessed is just not acceptable, just wanted a good Roast on my day off and very disappointed as heard good things from your venue. Sadly way distante from it. All the best. VP

Really disappointing trip that we'd been looking forward to for weeks. We were sat upstairs along with two large tables of families with kids. The atmosphere was a bit dead upstairs definitely more buzzy downstairs. They didn't have one of our chosen starters so they subbed in something else on the house. We had the pork roast (for two) to share and when it arrived everything was luke warm at best. The roasts weren't crispy and the cut we had was mostly fat; it came with two carrots. Some elements tasted nice but definitely not worth the hype we'd read about. I mentioned the temperature issue to the staff at the end of the meal and was told they'd pass the message to the kitchen. Our dessert was taken off the cost at the end. Maybe they were having an off day...

The venue staff were very lovely and friendly and helped us with wine recommendations whilst we waited for our table. Loved the interior, and the wines were delicious. The food was all very tasty. We went for a Sunday roast. We opted for the pork. It was a shame that the only beef option was a pie, and both lamb options were with a pine nut sauce, which we couldn’t have due to allergies. One thing to note is that the mains only come with a side of roast and one other veggie. It would have been great to have had more green vegetables options. However both the starters and desserts were incredible, full of flavour and very moreish. A great venue for a big group of people if you want a laid back Sunday afternoon. Went there for Sunday Roast. We previously had a look at the menu and price range. We had been willing to try this place for a long time, with so much hype around it, always listed among the best sunday roasts in London. We picked the lamb ( see photo) 50GBP for two pp. You can see the creamed kale which acts as one side. Also, the photo doesnt show the 2 roasted potatoes ( cut in half = 4 halves) included. While the food was cooked properly, this is clearly the most expensive, least feeding Sunday Roast you can get in London. The portion of lamb is meant to be for 2 people.... That's one you get for one person at any other decent place. .. Left starving, disappointed and will never go again. Also note that no other sides are included and basic items such as Yorkshire pudding aren't even available to order...The service was friendly but nothing special. Tables are very closed to each other. Wondering how they go so many positive reviews.. Can't please everyone.

We visited this restaurant on a cold November afternoon at lunch time. Upon entering we were greeted warmly with the words, the heating has just been turned on . We were shown to a table at the back and were served reasonably quickly. The waitress was very helpful and patient as we translated the menu into French for our guest. The menu was comprehensive and our order was taken and we were served quite quickly . The food was very tasty , but was let down with its presentation. Desert was ordered and I asked our waitress very cheekily for something that wasn’t on the menu. Nothing was too mush trouble for our waitress who returned with what I asked for. Exceptional service . The bill was slightly high for the quality but the overall experience was good . Would we return, certainly but not till the weather improves. My feet never did get warm

This review covers a couple of experiences that I’ve had at the Camberwell Arms. I first dined in this pub earlier this year to celebrate my birthday with one of their renowned roasts. The service I experienced from one of the waitresses was disappointing, which meant that my overall experience wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be. I got in touch with the venue and spoke to the GM Callum who listened attentively to my feedback and invited us back to the pub to hopefully have a better experience. I went back feeling slightly apprehensive however, my boyfriend and I ended up having the most wonderful afternoon and received absolutely incredible service from Callum and the other staff, plus the roast dinner was divine (we had the lamb ribs which were delicious, and the roast potatoes were the perfect combination of golden crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside). This experience totally changed my thoughts towards the pub and I really appreciate the efforts that Callum made to turn what had been a negative experience into a much more positive one. So positive in fact, that I’m coming back to dine with a couple of friends later this month and we’re really looking forward to it 😊

We booked a table at 9:15. We were seated next to the bar. Some blokes were ordering pints of Guinness and lager at the bar. We had to ask them to move before seating down ad we literally didn’t have no space between them and our table. We felt we were place out there without any care. The waitress arrived and there wasn’t any steak or fillet or any meat. They didn’t have hake either. It was shocking as 1/2 of the menu was gone. Only small plates to combine with the non existent protein. Why offer tables after 9pm if you can’t offer the same service/ food as at 7pm? We felt like we were taking the left overs. We left. End up in FM Mangal. Not by choice but because we were hungry. It turns out we eat, the service was good and we had some shots too, fraction of the price. Camberwell arms food is delicious, is just that isn’t consistent and pretentious. Because they know is good they don’t care how the come across to customers. You are good until you aren’t anymore.

The staff and management went above and beyond for us. We booked a roast for 4pm (which is pretty late!) and a few of the options had run out. Some of our group were unable to eat the remaining options and the staff and management quickly came up with two alternative dishes at no charge! The quality and flavors were outstanding, but the highlight was really the staff- incredibly friendly and accommodating.

Went for Sunday lunch, the two of us and while the setting was nice and the staff were friendly the food was distinctly average and over priced for what we got. I booked here after hearing lots of hype about how good it was and it was a shame to leave disappointed.

The food was quite disappointing - the partridge wasn't a well balanced dish. Everything on the plate was the same bland, brown color and there was nothing to balance out the saltiness of the partridge and artichokes and the richness of the apple sauce. I would, however, recommend the scotch bonnet fat on toast and pork rillette starter.

The food was unreal. We ordered a few different small plates, larger plates and shared a pudding. Also paired with a few cocktails. Would happily come back again. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice spot for a Sunday roast. We travelled from Crystal Palace as we’d heard good things. It delivered on the food other than the roast potatoes (my favourite element personally) which had a very fishy taste to them. Inedible. Everything else was great, though. No nonsense service and a nice ambiance. Seating is all abit clustered. Wouldn’t stay for much longer than an hour - 90 mins.

Kind of new age pub or so... Entrance was nice with a warm welcome but after that service and personell wasn't OK.. Food was not what I expected, though it looked nice but was expensive. So just one drinks and we left.

A really really nice dinner with my wife and close friends. Service was excellent and food was to a very good standard. Only scoring it a 4* because I think to call oneself a pub in London, you have to offer better value for money in terms of portioning than what was offered. I'm not usually about the moaning about portions, but we paid £100 for a very delicious rib of beef and between the 4, with the sides on offer, we were left a little wanting. Would genuinely recommend though. What a weird review this is.

Very very busy... not sure of it is a pub or a restaurant but probably a bit of both... food looked good but didn't have time to eat so next time!

Went for a Sunday Roast and was shocked how tiny the portions are. The attached photo is a main course that's meant to be shared between two people…

Amazing, original, surprising food! Their sunday roast is well known, but their normal menu is also really good.

An interesting take on British food, with fast service. Delicious starter options. The crumble, while delicious, was not a “crumble”. The service was awkward.
