I was impressed with the friendliness of all the staff working at this bar , even do I just ordered one drink . I can felt the love and friendliness of the staff. Because of the friendliness of Ria Anne also other staff at the front desk also Analine at the Break fast lounge Host at Caledonian Hotel where Caley Bar located. I got a positive perspective what they have inside the hotel. And it’s true . Thank you to all Caledonian Hotel Edinburgh and Caley Bar staff for making my trip memorable,

Absolutely wonderful service by these gentlemen and my family and I also received an impromptu education on whiskey-an informal whiskey tasting if you will. Thank you Ellis, Sam, and Luhasz!

The staff at The Caley are so knowledgeable about whiskey! I visited with my boyfriend during our stay in Edinburgh and Meghan gave us personal recommendations on the whiskey list. We sampled several whiskeys over two evenings and each one was tailored to our tastes. Highly recommend for those looking to get an education on whiskey!

My fiancé and I came here for our honeymoon and were treated like royalty by Damien. We would fly all the way from California any day just to have one of the perfectly crafted old fashioned cocktails. 10/10 recommend!

Absolutely amazing! The drinks and cocktails were delicious and the service was impeccable. I recommend the Edinburgh Rose and the Cherry Blossom. The interior is beautiful and everything feels very luxurious. The staff are very attentive. Thanks to Ellis, Lucasz, Rosie Joanna and Oskar for making it extra special. We will be back again soon!

We went in for one drink, ended up staying for 2 and then returning later for a 3rd. Fantastic service and staff, who are all very knowledgeable on the making of the cocktails, the range of spirits behind the bar and their origins etc. Lukasz was our main server who was extremely friendly and every time he departed the table, all we could talk about was how nice and friendly he is. There’s a range of attentive staff members and Ellis and Rosie were on hand to check in on us occasionally to ensure we were enjoying our experience. Again, very knowledgeable and kind. A smile goes a long way with a customer and makes a huge difference. All of these staff made our experience fantastic. Would highly recommend an old fashioned!

In a review such as this, I would usually recommend a particular member of staff who I had a good experience with but the issue is that the ENTIRE team: - know the signature menu back to front - know every classic cocktail recipe and can make them WELL - can tailor-make a unique custom cocktail on the fly to your request - can floor you with laughter - can answer any question about cocktails, scotch whisky, the hotel or Edinburgh - will make you feel welcomed - will take good care of you But just in case, I'll name drop a few who stood out to me during our experience: Damian, Ellie, Emily, Daniel, Megan, Beth, Harriet and Matt. Also, look out for Lukasz in Peacock Alley. A beautiful bar with delicious cocktails made by charismatic bartenders with attentive service. You simply could not ask for more. I was looking for a place to relax and enjoy some good cocktails. And - I’ll let you in on a secret - this is it! The upbeat music, sets it apart from the jazz of Peacock Alley (next door) and lets you know to tap into your curious younger side, as you explore their long cocktail menu and whiskey selection. 10/10 service, 10/10 drinks, 10/10 atmosphere. Spent a few hours in here after dinner in the hotel, very good service and a great selection of drinks available.

We were staying at The Caledonian so visited The Caley Bar for pre-dinner drinks on the recommendation of the concierge. The bespoke whisky tasting is fabulous - the selection of whiskies is huge and superb, and the bar staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They were mixing new cocktails and let us try them, as well as talking in-depth about various bottles they have available. We had a great time and came back again to try a few more whiskies the next night. The atmosphere in the bar is quiet, laid back and classy but very welcoming. Highly recommended.

Had a bottle of champers for a graduation celebration. Ciaran with a C was great. He helped accommodate all seven of us, even though the six other people I was with are American, and let’s face it, americans are difficult.

Como nos estábamos quedando en el Waldorf Astoria, nos pareció muy conveniente parar en el Caley Bar antes y después de la cena en el transcurso de nuestra estadía de tres noches. Las bebidas estaban bien preparadas. Una bebida realmente se destacó: un ahumado a la antigua hecha con malta única de Highland Park. Queríamos aprender más sobre el whisky escocés y por eso entablamos conversaciones con los camareros sobre ellos en varias ocasiones. Si entra desde el hotel, la expectativa es que será un toque moderno y encantador en un bar escocés; Ya que forma parte del Waldorf Astoria. Lamentablemente es como una extraña especie de sala de espera; Tal vez como una estación de tren victoriana? ! Es bastante oscuro (incluso a la luz del día) y ventoso debido a la puerta frontal. No es muy atmosférico y se siente como un "hotel". Estaba con mi hija, pero como no tenía identificación, se le negó un cóctel a pesar de mi verificación. Los precios son bastante elevados como se esperaba, pero el ambiente realmente no lo refleja. Solo puedo decir que estuvo bien si está en el hotel y esperando a alguien, en cuyo caso espere en el callejón del pavo real o en un bar en otro lugar.

All went so well, thanks to the kindness of Mr Yannick and Mr Neville Xuereb (I guess both were Maltese). After a huge dinner, these drinks were just a wonderful continuation of this amazing experience. Thank you guys.

Went in with friends and kids after the rugby. Good beer and vibe and big screen showing other matches. Nice staff brought my hungry teenager a snack for free.

The bar is great with a good choice of drinks and knowledgable bar staff. After a couple in the bar head into the lounge where on selected evenings a Jazz trio play wonderful old Jazz tunes. Great place to relax

Pub agreable bien que tes sonore, dans un joli cadre, personnel très sympathique, grand choix de bières que l'on vous propose de gouter et tres bon fish and chips.

Un lugar encantador para relajarse y descansar. Aparentemente siempre abierto. Ambiente agradable y sillas muy cómodas en el salón. El servicio es un poco lento cuando está ocupado, ya que parecía haber solo una camarera pero unos 4 camareros. No es suficiente para restar valor a un entorno agradable, pero vale la pena mencionarlo.

Upon arriving at his bar we were told to take a seat as the bar was strictly table service only. We sat for 30 minutes because we got fed up of not even being offered a drinks menu. The atmosphere was rather pretentious and I’m glad we didn’t waste too much time here. I would definitely not recommend

Fabulous, fun afternoon with Stevie from Eden Mill sampling 5 different gins along with a 'Guess the Garnish' competition. Stevie was very knowledgeable about his gins and made the afternoon very relaxing and fun. Highly recommended for a gin tasting with friends.

We visited on a Friday evening and was somewhat disappointed. The bar billed itself as a gin bar on the window, but the list of gins was far from impressive. I ordered a gin with a Fever Tree elderflower tonic and it arrived with regular...

Unbelievable, no beer and excuse of cleaning the lines, told would take half an hour, didn't happen, night earlier staff...

Booked a 2 hour Eden Mill masterclass with 4 friends for last Saturday. Alan was an outstanding teacher with infinite patience. He made it such a great experience we cannot recommend it highly enough. Surroundings so comfortable, much better than being herded around a distillery with a crowd of strangers. Made our weekend, thank you.

Having had a light lunch in the Balmoral hotel we then moved to the Caley Bar for a gin tasting experience organised by the Eden Mill distillery. The difference between the two venues was night and day, suffice to say that I won't be going back to the Balmoral in the near future. Bar staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was light and friendly.

As a treat went to Caley for tea & scones.... BIG MISTAKE. Got drinks and 20 mins later scones & chips arrived! Had to ask for cutlery, and then condiments. The scones were rock hard. Told waitress and she stressed that scones were baked that morning. I was offered shortbread which I refused. To add insult, a service charge is automatically included in the bill.....

This bar smells like mud mixed with stale alcohol. They were also playing trance music which clashed horribly with the piano playing next door in the hotel lounge. When I asked the barman to turn the music off (we were the only people in the bar) he said he couldn't but he could turn it down. He didn't. We left.

Amazing cocktails. Ask Neville for "the Malteser" cocktail!! Very friendly staff! Excellent surrounding and a comfortable ambient atmosphere. Has a variety of modern seating, and interactive bar staff. Recommend

And I do mean time. The most feckless of staff you could imagine. Fool me once... Unfortunately, we didn't list to the old cliche. Four times we tried this place. Every time the service was horrible. Too bad, because the hotel staff is terrific. DO NOT try your luck here.

3 friend wanting a gin tasting. The distillery near by was fully booked.We popped in to have a gin.There is a very well stocked bar with high stools, comfortable seats and, up a step , another seating area.We got more than we could hope for.The barman, Duncan was great.As he was quiet he gave us a personal Gin tasting. He taught us so much about the history and how they were made. We tried a few each. We have now all bought a few litre's of our favorites.Thank you , you made our trip.

Visited the Caley Bar with friends for the Eden Mill Gin tasting. This was very informative and very good value. The Caley Bar provides a lovely setting for this. We had a most enjoyable time partaking in this event.

We had just enjoyed a beautiful lunch at the Galvin Brasserie and thought it would be nice to enjoy the rest of our afternoon at the Caley bar as we had heard it was recently taken over by Eden Mill. Unfortunately the service was poor, we ordered champagne and a cocktail for the group which took a while to be served. But after that there was no table service and we were made to feel like a nuisance despite being the only customers there. If there had been table service we would've stayed and drank for longer but the initial poor and slow service we received discouraged us and we swiftly decided to move on elsewhere. Very disappointing overall... I wouldn't choose to return, but I would highly recommend the Galvin Brasserie for food and drinks.

A couple of my friends have recommended Eden Mill to me before so when we knew we would be in Edinburgh and heard Eden Mill have taken over the Caley Bar we had to book!!!!A drink on arrival of their new gin cocktails, the perfect start! The day only got better. The staff were fun, knowledgable, and great lovers of gin which helped when talking us through our gin experience. No pics due to being so carried away with the gin, but the gin bar looks fantastic.Would highly recommend this, but book in advance to avoid serious disappointment! It is always a pleasure to have a night cap in this bar, although We have over the years had many excellent meals here as well as using it as a late night bar, so the selection of drinks is hard to beat, and the serving staff are all that one could ask for. Always worth a visit.

Proper hotel bar with great drinks, good selection of food and very interesting people. Bar staff were the most courteous, responsive and knowledgeable I came across during my whole trip to Scotland. Im not sure what the collective noun for Gimlets is but I had a bunch of them.

We met Jessica who knows her bartending I can confirm!She made me an excellent version of the old favorite : The Negroni Cocktail..& it was carefully crafted using superior red Vermouth & finished with oil of orange zest--she resisted the hideous SLICE of orange in favour of the sophisticated zest sliver--only...PERFECT! My partner chose a little-known Beromach Peat from their very extensive whisky range & it was stunning..so at bargain basement prices here you get top of range..but it's not a jazzy spot..well not at the weekend anyway..so if you want loads of atmosphere...sadly its not here--but good drinking certainly is!

We recently went to the bar here for cocktails and drinks prior to a family birthday dinner. It was very poor and disappointing. Two of the cocktails on the list were not available as the waiter said they did not have the ingredients and the whisky my son ordered was not available either. The drinks we did order took ages to arrive despite the bar being very quiet. As we left, the carpet at the entrance was covered in cigarette ends and were obviously just being left. We went to this hotel expecting 5star service as this was a special occasion. We live near Edinburgh so we will go elsewhere next time. Pity the visitors if this is their experience of the capital city and one of its top hotels.

The reputation and opulent surroundings are worth even a walk through of this fine old bar / hotel. It sits resplendent at the end of Princes Street. We have stayed here and had one of the best breakfast experiences in Edinburgh. The beer I had was reasonably priced at a smidgen under £5 which is in line with Tigerlily, Le Monde etc. However, my wife's latte was an eye watering £4.75. It was smaller in size than a medium cup / glass in any decent coffee house. To make matters worse, there was around 40% milk froth. No matter how pleasant the surroundings are, an almost £5 price tag for a standard coffee is absolutely unforgivable in Scotland, let alone anywhere else. The hotel is better than this and should seriously consider revising their prices.

On a recent trip to Edinburgh, taking advantage of the beautiful setting and thankfully good weather, I surprised my now Fiancé with a marriage proposal, we chose to toast our engagement at the Caley bar in Edinburgh. On arrival , we were the only customers, our enthusiastic and courteous host Allan welcomed us, and, with his great knowledge and wit guided our choice through the wonderful display of Whisky's and Gins on the back bar. After briefly quizzing us on our particular favourite tipples, from his own experience he pointed us toward a particular Gin and accompaniment neither of us had tried previously, which, I must say worked ever so well. I would often move away from the bar area straight after service but found Allan to be an engaging conversationalist well versed on local history ( apocryphal or otherwise!) and contemporary issues. As the bar filled he juggled his duties with aplomb, directing other patrons to the adjacent Hotel brasserie, serving others in the seated area of the bar, excusing himself when necessary. I've rarely seen levels of such efficiency, he always seemed to have two plates spinning at once but made it all seem so effortless. I'd just like to extend both my own and my Fiancés thanks, your courtesy, friendliness and easy charm left an indelible mark on what was already a special day.

Visited while staying at the hotel. Bar staff friendly. Lovely and cosy on a cold evening. Bar immaculate with lovely comfortable chairs in which to relax.

Excellent choice of whisky, probably some of the best in town.Choice of meals was limited but superb quality. Good service although prices are a bit steep.

Exceptionally well appointed bar with staggering number of whiskies. Beautifully reappointed with open floor, comfy seats and sophisticated air. Mainly hotel guests but bar staff are very expert in meeting every expectation. Music is a cool and smooth and a bit eclectic but at least it wasn't repetitive Christmas "tosh". This is a place to go and be seen, or to take someone special somewhere special. No boring TV screen, you can actually have easy and convivial conversation without any intrusion. We love this place and its all too easy to settle in and make an afternoon into an evening.

Recently stayed at Waldorf Astoria - Caledonian and visited the Caley Bar. It's has a lovely cosy lounge and great choice of drinks. The Black forest gateau cocktail was just amazing and a must try! Great bar snack too !

The bar had a few customers in watching rugby highlights on the TV. Despite sky high prices the beers were served in plain unbranded pint glasses. Poor show for the prices charged

I was guided to this bar by the Guest Manager. He told me the bar manager was a specialist in whisky and tasting. I went in and was very surprised to see a young 24 year old Latvian. His name is Gunars (sp?) and he was a study of whisky. He definitely knew what he was talking about and made my tasting journey very enjoyable. Ask for him if you are near the hotel (Waldorf Astoria) and are looking for some extra tips.

We were staying at the Caledonian for the last weekend of August, Edinburgh outside was enjoying the fringe and it was manic. We popped into the Caley bar for pre dinner drinks. It was very quite - only us and a hen party in one corner who were having a lovely time without disturbing anyone. The barman brought us across our drinks - my OH had a larger and I had a lime and soda - my drink was very delicious, half a lime and feverfew soda. The barman also brought a tray of nibbles which was a nice touch and we were offered more nibbles afterwards. Our bill came to less than £8 - my lime and soda was only £2 - very impressed as we thought our bar bill would have cost far more. Our bill was delivered to our room overnight and we paid as we checked out. We found the experience very pleasant and the staff very efficient. even when we are not staying over we will be popping in again on our next Edinburgh trip.

Took in a fringe cabaret show August 2015. Quite enjoyed myself. I asked the bartender for something authentically Scottish and he served me an Edinburgh gin with freshly zested orange and tonic water with just a bit of ice as I liked it.

From the outside the building offers a outstanding façade but yet the bar while staying at this hotel is overpriced, lacks atmosphere and lack the sense of luxury you would expect from a waldorf.

We have been in here for 2 hours +, glass of bubbly & 4 gin martinis later. It's a super place, top notch service, most chilled, highly recommended

We were hotel guests in The Caledonian and were given complimentary drinks vouchers for the Caley bar. We went down to the bar for drinks after we had checked in and unpacked - great cocktail menu with plenty of choice. Liked the touch of having signature cocktails. Not overly priced given the location in a 5 star hotel. Great service from the waitress and bar staff, who were very attentive despite being busy. Would recommend!

We 'popped' in to the bar for a cocktail before dinner and it was pretty poor. We had to ask for a cocktail menu at the bar (they didn't have one!- told us it was in our table it wasn't!). They stopped table service without letting us know and with only one person serving at the bar we had to wait awhile. It's relatively expensive for cocktails (and they were out of draft beer too). Not worth it - my advice - if you want a drink don't bother with here there are loads of bars nearby: West Rooms, whighams, the Angels Share, Panda& Sons all much better

Came as I am a local who had not visited since the place was renovated and was disappointed.There selection of beers and whiskeys was good I have to say and not too overly priced for where it is (bear in mind it's located in a very upscale hotel).The service, however, is no where near the standard expected at a place like this and there are many, many finer and cheaper bars nearby. We were over charged and the senior person on service grunted a "sorry" that was both insincere and forced. Shame because our waiter was actually attentive and professional.The atmosphere was cold and dull too and the visit was a disappointment. As a local I would advise looking elsewhere in the city for a more authentic, cheaper and enjoyable drink.

I'm in the Caley bar right now. I stood at the bar for 20 minutes. It wasn't overly busy - there were around 15 folk at the bar, some drinking, some waiting. If you stood in the middle or at the far end did you get served. Only after I pointed out to the manager and his extremely rude colleague that one whole end of the bar had been neglected for the whole 20 mins did we finally get some attention. The barman's favourite line every few minutes was "ok, who's next?"....because that system always works so well.Disappointing that a 5 star establishment didn't have enough staff on duty and that those who were, including the manager, lacked the basic skills to manage the crowds' expectations. Especially at £5 a drink.Utter piss take.

If you're looking for an informative, entertaining evening, take my advice and have a few drinks in the Caley Bar at the Waldorf Astoria.We arrived after an international rugby match last weekend to be greeted by a busy bar being run by the infamous Sam. Even though the pressure was on (the bar was 3 deep at one time) he ensured the waiting punters were treated with respect, good humour and a huge knowledge of the products he was responsible for - I was surprised however, that the Waldorf didn't assist him with extra staff from other departments during the rush.....even higher management who seemed to be hanging around. !The Caley Bar is a regular for us when we're in Edinburgh, last time watching a good humoured burlesque show during the festival - that time Sam gave me a run down on all the large selection of whisky's (I spent far to much that night) and my wife was treated to a very special "Caley Onian" cocktail of his own design ...... try one (bet you can't drink three).The bar area is designed well, you can be in the centre of all the bar activity and banter with other Customers, or find yourself a quiet spot to relax.Certainly the best bar in Edinburgh - try it.

Took the recommendation and visited twice in a 2 day trip! Part of The Caledonian Hotel in a great part of town, The Caley Bar appeared welcoming with a disorientating array of spirited drinks. Spent a long time choosing which of the various spirits and which mixer. Many parts to this venue, but we spent most of it at the bar. There is a substantial, shaded side room, plus a piano bar. Facilities were great and the first evening probably spent 2 or 3hrs here. Second day we spent another >2hrs and a little more money - I'd spotted the quality Malt Whiskies the day before and went straight for one that I knew. The total price for 5 of us didn't seem taht ridiculous so we ordered another and I chose an alternate - This time the price for a round was quite expensive so I enquired as to what had increased the prices. I was informed that the drink I had chosen was £20 a measure! That'll teach me. Nice though.Definitely worth popping in whomever you are with - Friends, family, couples etc. You could easily lose yourself here for your entire trip - In fact most of us did!

expensive? yes. It's in the Waldorf Astoria hotel... it's to be expected. Best martini cocktail i ever had (the barman took his time on that though, and the show was beginning). All in all pleasant, elegant place to go for an aperitive.

Enjoyed drinks in the Caley bar with my wife last night, excellent service provided by Manager Sam and his team, a fabulous venue that more people need to try when in the West End.

My husband and I were not staying at the hotel as it was a little too expensive however we decided to try the Caley bar for drinks. We were not disappointed. Extremely friendly, cosy atmosphere, staff were efficient and far more knowledgeable than me on cocktails and made our time there extremely enjoyable. Obviously a well managed establishment. Will definately return and recommended the bar to our friends.

Visited here with some of the band from the show I was playing in when I was up warming up prior to the Fringe Festival and we never wanted to leave. There's a great atmosphere in here and it's it's extremely comfortable and stylish! Very impressed with the bar manager who was incredibly friendly and great to chat to whilst ordering drinks - he also made the perfect Martini and served all our drinks without delay. Will definitely be coming back here next time I'm up! A thoroughly recommended place to drink.

Sunday 20th into town for few drinks and some food. Took a notion to try the Caley for a change and found it a nice comfortable room if a touch on the cool side. Ordered. Scheihallian and a Garden Party Martini. All good until the staff came back to say they did not have one of the ingredient to make it (the one made by the hotel chef) so we had to choose something else. Second round another pint and a different mixture for Mrs D not quite the meeting of expectations as we had hoped but as we had a comfortable seat we soldiered on. Round three. An OF23 for Mrs D and more Scheihallion for me. We were so interested in seeing what the cocktail was that I paid no attention to the pint until I went to lift it. Gone was the Golden liquid replaced with a Glass of dishwater that you could not see through, wish I had taken a picture. Returned it to the bar to be told by the barman "I'm just starting my shift Scheihallian is off. Now for that to have left the bar of a five star establishment is bad enough not noticed by the person who poured it but for it then to be brought to the table by the waiting staff is testament to don't care attitude. I took a Mojito instead but by that time we were leaving for pastures new. Has the potential to be very good but the staff just don't cut it No bar skills or knowledge I suspect. The five star establishment at the other end of Princess St is still the Sunday Best. Great staff trained knowledgable & efficient. Balmoral you still stand head and shoulders above the rest and we will return soon Maybe just maybe we should not look for somewhere different for a change but stick to the tried n tested

It had been a while since I was in the Caley Bar and I was shocked to see the renovation. Very nice indeed. A great improvement since the "old days". Service could be better but when served the staff were very nice. They just need to be more on the ball. A few nibbles could be served with drinks too. For a bar of this status they really should go the extra mile. So worth a visit on a trip to Edinburgh and the hotel is also very nice.

Situated inside The Caldedonian Hotel, The Caley bar is a hidden gem. Wonderful atmosphere, I felt we could have sat here all night. The drinks list is extensive & very reasonably priced for Edinburgh cocktails £7-9, Good wine list & selection of local beers. There was a tv screen with football on when we were in which is so unusual but not at all intrusive. Worth a look at the other bars & restaurants inside the hotel too, equally beautiful. Highly recommend.

...and excellently made Bloody Mary... and super refreshing cucumber Hendricks.... and really reasonably priced selection of champagne and wine.These guys know their drinks, they have a really good selection and they serve it confidently. Last time we never made it off the bar (very comfy bar stools) but this time, due to wanting to watch rugby on a big screen, moved to ridiculously comfy armchairs.I could happily live here. Don't go through Edinburgh without having a drink at The Caley!!

Returned to the bar following a great experience last time - didn't stay as was disappointed with the hotel but remembered the excellent service of the bar but this time - I think even better! Just spelt a lovely Sunday afternoon in the bar. Claudia and Daniel made our day ..... Excellent service delivered in an efficient but friendly manner - true gems of this bar! Well definitely come back when next in Edinburgh.

Long weekend in Edinburgh started brilliantly with charming and efficient service from Sam and Michael in this convivial cocktail bar.

We stayed at The Caledonian for 3 nights at the beginning of September and wandered over to The Caley Bar a few times throughout our stay. Each time we were met with warm and friendly service and nice conversations with other patrons. The place is really pretty inside and extends to a darker and quieter lounge or to their large and very beautiful Peacock Gallery. We opted to park our seats at the bar and chat it up with others.The bartender David and bar manager Michael were just fabulous. Both were very knowledgable and friendly. On one occassion, we had to witness an incident with a very rude patron and both David and Michael handled themselves with true professionalism...never missed a beat.I would definitely recommend popping over to The Caley Bar for a couple if you are in the area. It's not a giant party scene, but you are sure to have fun and many laughs!

This was a very nice place to have a drink and the service was outstanding. The drinks good, great atmosphere and great service.

We visited this bar on both evenings of our weekend in Edinburgh. The service was good, the waiters were friendly and most importantly, the cocktails were delicious! Compared to the rest of Edinburgh, the cocktails were very reasonably priced and were of a higher standard. I would visit this bar if I was in Edinburgh again

The Caley Bar had been recommended to me by a friend and my expectations were certainly met. After trying a couple of cocktails on the list I fancied trying something else, the bar team were very accommodating and creative and made my friend and me some delicious drinks. Really great service, friendly and efficient bar staff and lovely decor. I will definitely be back!

Fab new interiors, love the new space, but service very poor last Friday night, no table service, bar staff not interested, real chore to get a drink and then pay, no wonder it's empty and the Rutland next door full!
