The Cake & Candy Tearoom in Edinburgh, City of

I made a booking on Saturday for 3 people at 1.30pm. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door to say they close at 2pm every day. I went in and asked why they hadn't pointed that out when I made the booking that day. The male staff member said he had me down for 1pm and they've been closing at 2pm for months. I said I hadn't been there for months so how was I supposed to know that. His response was to make an angry noise then storm off through to the kitchen, leaving the lady to apologise for any misunderstanding. Very bad customer service. I won't be going in again.

Have not been here for some time and was never impressed in the past. Arrived today to find a half empty cafe with a “fully booked” sign on the door. Not finding this very clear as to its meaning entered to ask if we could be seated. Found a tantrum filled little man loudly pointing out the sign on the door. It was clear where the written language chaos comes from. A very poor impression and will be a lasting one, two many cafes in Portobello where manners are observed to ever grace this hole in the wall again!

Firstly noone greets you at the door so we didn't know whether to sit down or not. One waiter shouted that's the only seats left so we sat down (me, hubby and boys -4yr old and 9month old baby) The waitress serving us was very rude, no manners and quite cold. Menu very basic. No children's portions/ no dairy free alternative for coffees. After we ordered our food I asked if we could have a high chair for outlr baby. The waitress replied ' we don't have high chairs here" We decided to go elsewhere. If you have children and want a lovely lunch please go to Reds.. just along the road. They have a huge menu, delicious food and a soft play area for the kids.

Rude female owner.Food average.Perhaps time for her to sell up.The food was ok but better food across the road at Popeyes.At least you get a smile there.

Booked an afternoon tea for 5 which was del to my home around 11 in the morning. Was delivered in a well presented box and looked amazing. It did not disappoint. Everything was very fresh and tasted great. Would highly recommend and definitly value for money. 10 out of 10.

My friend and I have visited this wee tea room on various occasions. Their fresh homemade scones and biscuits are delicious. Today we booked an Afternoon Tea. We were given a huge amount of various filled sandwiches together with mini quiches, scones, mini sausage rolls, mini pork pies, empire biscuits, millionaires shortbread, truffles. and unlimited tea/coffee. We were stuffed! We were also supplied with "doggy bag" containers which we certainly needed as there was so much. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They also do a delivery Afternoon Tea. We will be back!

Received my afternoon tea box and Mixed box of tablet & macaroon on Sunday 31/5/20 what a delight it was, everything was delicious. Superb customer service and speedy delivery. Excellent

I ordered a tray of macaroon and tablet online. When it didnt arrive I contacted them and they sent out another batch right away free of charge. They were so nice and had no qualms about replacing my order. Excellent customer service.

Leuke en gezellige tearoom. Je kunt er ook eten. Gebak en cookies waren super lekker. De wc is wel wat bijzonders 😁

Sat at a table looking out of the window and watched the passers by on a cold morning so delighted to have a nice hot cup of coffee and a homemade cheese scone warm from the oven. Very reasonable prices. Only one tiny toilet which is very compact to move around but clean and Dennis the Menace wallpaper on the walls.

This cafe is a great place to stop for a light lunch or one of the best full Scottish breakfast I’ve enjoyed. All the baking is home made in the cafe. Loved the rules on the wall found them very funny and have seen other visitors laughing and taking photos to show their friends. The beano wallpaper in the toilet was a massive hit with both my kids. And the staff are extremely friendly and couldn’t do enough to help with any needs.

I walked in and I found the political noticeboards and the obnoxious rules board to be in your face. I had to walk out and go to a better cafe instead because it was horrendous.

My 5 year old grandson and I had walked to Portobello from Restalrig. We spent time at the seafront, then decided to search out a cafe for an early lunch. We entered this cafe, and were looking for a table with 2 seats, when a waitress, with a face like thunder, approached me and growled; 'What do you want?' Not once, but twice. I replied 'food, but no longer' We turned and left the building. My grandson asked me why that lady was so aggressive. I replied that I didn't know, but he shouldn't worry, as we will never return to this place. Disgraceful customer service...

The cake and candy tearoom is a lovely little cafe! I would recommend this to any one who likes a homely cafe to feel welcomed in! the staff were lovely and very smiley! All there cakes are home baked and the food looks yum! I suffer from a severe Nut allergy and the staff at this cafe were very helpful and took this seriously when helping me decide what to pick to have! I had a chocolate milkshake and my mum had a latte and we both had a caramel shortbread and they were all just lovely! We are definitely going to go back and visit and try some of there lunch or breakfast menu too! 💖

Wont return. Filthy place . Food tasteless & bland . Toilet needs addressed adaptor customers to use .

This quirky tea room is right in the middle of Portobello High Street which has many other interesting places to eat and is a real destination in itself Access - very good bus stops right outside, street parking, close to Portobello Prom cycle route. Level access from the street. Cafe - two large high ceiling rooms decorated with bunting. A good selection of cakes and sweet things plus savoury food. They are bang up to date, selling ‘Brexit Biscuits’ They host community events and pride themselves on being a bit quirky there is a long list of ‘June’s rules’ next to the toilet including - if you want fast food McDonalds is at Kinnard Park! I did not check out the toilets so I don’t know if they are accessible or not but they say they are only for customers which I always think gives a negative message. Not that this cafe would care! Quirky individual cafe’s like this are real gems in a corporate world, and I recommend you visit, as much as possible just sorry I don’t live there.
