Tried to get a drink. Slow service. When they finished making a long cocktail they skipped us and served another customer who came after us. Extremely loud albeit live music. We just left without even ordering a drink.

Week located, accessible and very friendly staff. The room are is a good quality but suffer a bit from the age of the building. Had a boiler issue with lukewarm water for the bath tub at about 22h, it probably was because many other people used it at the same time, made another attempt at midnight and it was fine. Also had a heater problem and with the night temperature dropping to 2°c it was worrying but the staff provided a portable heater and it did the job. So good reactivity on behalf of the staff with solutions. Now I come come from a capital city so I'm used to street noises, the hotel is at the intersection of two main streets, there is so much that double glazing can actually do reprising l especially with sirens, plus the bat plays music, but it all gets quiet later at night so for me it was not a big issue, but if you are an early sleeper or not accustomed to big cities noise (N.Y, London, Paris...) then may be request a backstreet side room. I will go again on my next trip to Glasgow.

Wow, great rooms in the heart of the city. Lots of stairs but worth it.

I was recommended by a family member to come here for the great live music and food. Had a really good time and enjoyed my time. Would recommend to other people and would return . Came this march was great!

Aside from being charged twice for our stay, and finding the room not so clean : this boutique hotel is really ideally placed in the city, and is a perfect fit for a first time in Edinburgh. The hotel people were very nice to us, and the manager was genuinely sorry for the double-charge thingy : so it's a 4-star rating for me. Cheers !

Great location right in the heart of Edinburgh, food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. I would definitely recommend the fish and chips if you’re ever visiting!

EDIT: In a follow up email, the hotel asked me to remove this review in exchange for one free night. Presumably other reviewers have agreed to this. My wife and I stayed at the Inn on the Mile for our honeymoon and were unpleasantly surprised with the quality of the room given the price paid. In general, the room seemed to be unkempt and in a state of ill repair given one night cost over 300 pounds. We would like to say that the staff were friendly during our stay. I was injured by the window which wouldn't stay open and which slammed down on my index finger. It seemed to be in a state of disrepair. As we couldn't open the window, and with the air conditioning seemingly broken, the room was stiflingly hot and neither of us slept. Beyond this, the toilet seat mismatched the toilet, meaning we essentially were sat on the porcelain which was quite disgusting, while the toilet roll holder was extremely loose and the bathroom grouting was in dire need of repair. Altogether, this only reinforced the poor quality of the room that was completely inappropriate given the price paid. Our reason for choosing the hotel was a prior stay for my wife's 21st birthday a few years back, when we had an excellent stay and the staff were very attentive, pulling out all the stops. I noted this on the booking and was astonished to find there was no note, no special extras nor any acknowledgement of any kind that we were previous guests who had just gotten married. This is of course not essential, but given the cost of the room, our previous business and our perception of the hotel quality, it was surprising that this was ignored and left us feeling taken for granted, particularly given our previous excellent experience. Meanwhile the room lacked any complimentary prosecco as specified in the booking. In general, following our stay, I find it hard to recommend the hotel to friends and family despite previously having a wonderful stay. I found the room to be expensive, rough around the edges and the general attitude seemed to be one of indifference to us as guests, to mention nothing about my injury as a result of the poor keeping of the room. I am surprised and upset that the standards of such a well known hotel in which we previously loved to stay at have fallen so far in such a short time. Particularly worrisome is the fact that I have reached out four times to the hotel to complain (3 emails, 1 phone call) and they have failed to respond on any occasion - there is no good reason for not responding to customer complaints in 2024. This only reinforces my feeling that this hotel takes their guests for granted and rides almost entirely on the position of the hotel in a tourist hot-spot, charging extortionate prices for poorly kept and hazardous rooms.

We went to the bar, unbelievable, we reserve a table that is forgotten, have another table never cleared. Nobody comes to take our order. Unfriendly staff. We order, it never arrives, we order again because it was forgotten. The burger is cold, we report it, it is then burnt. Unbelievable

Absolutely the best fish and chips in this entire city. Well at least amongst the four places that I had them while I was here on my vacation. I also had an amazing martini called porn star. 😝 it was so yummy!

We came for Breakfast on a cold January Morning, food was okay looked very well presented and staff were ever so helpful. Food was a little on the cold side in particular my beans were not warm at all.

Perfect for a couple or friend's night out. The night we visited we were treated to a great live music.

The location of the hotel is unbeatable as it is very centrally located. Our room was on the 3rd floor, which is a challenge after a strenuous hike. The staircase is beautifully designed, as are the hallways on the floors. The room has everything you need, but unfortunately there is a certain lack of maintenance here and there (wobbling toilet seat, incredibly loud fans). We were disturbed by a constant humming noise (despite the ventilation being switched off) that bothered us throughout the night, probably coming from the floor above the room. Nice staff, but we had few points of contact here

Do not recommend their restaurant. The food was not digestible. The steak was so hard and it wasn't possible to cut, the sandwich had a lot of spices and had a bad taste. The bread was burnt. The service wasn't great.

Just returned home after a fabulous 2 night stay here. Rooms are amazing. And in such a fantastic building with great history. Huge beds,great bathrooms including a bath which these days many hotels don’t have. Hate showers!! Really warm room the whole time so no need to worry about it ever being cold. Very quiet to say it’s very central. Great touches like providing a decent hair dryer and GHD straighteners!! Oh and the Tunnocks Teacakes. The staff were very extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfasts are lovely. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely see you all next year.

Hotel is a great spot. Rooms are excellent. Location in the mile is very convenient to all areas of Edinburgh.

We had a great stay at Inn on the Mile and were impressed by the comfort and quality of the facilities. However, what truly set this hotel apart was the outstanding service we received after our stay. Upon returning home, we realized we had left a personal item behind. We contacted the hotel, and the staff responded immediately with kindness and professionalism. Within days, they had carefully packaged and shipped the forgotten item back to us overseas.

Awesome ! Great location. As for the room, it's simply perfect, clean, nice and pleasant. Crazy bedding. The room was not ready when we arrived (we were early so we suspected it). We were still able to leave our luggage to enjoy Edinburgh easily. The luggage had been brought up before our return. We took advantage of the bar in the evening. There was a live performance which was so good. The singer was incredible and the atmosphere was crazy. Perfect breakfast, we were ready to face this day! 🤩

Stayed here 1st - 4th November in room no. 3. Considering it was definitely not a cheap hotel I expected this to be a nice stay. Unfortunately the rooms where far from clean. The bathroom was very dirty especially the shower area. The towels got replaced every day but the bins only got emptied on the 3rd day and where full by that time. The bed sheets where dirty and never seen an iron also the mattresses kept sliding apart as they where 2 single beds which was very unfortunate. The room definitely needs an air freshener as it doesn’t smell the nicest! Great location but very disappointed with the rest.

Great location for a stay, made our holiday much easier and much more enjoyable. The location is fantastic and lended itself to easy access after long days of exploring the city. Food was decent, beer was decent, staff was excellent, overall really enjoyed our time staying here and would absolutely do so again.

Had a fantastic experience served by Joe. Great value for what you get and significantly cheaper than other restaurants in the area. Relaxed atmosphere with delicious food (we had the haggis and shared nachos) and lots of drink options to choose from. Would absolutely recommend eating here if you are looking for something on the Royal Mile.

Only tried the restaurant, which is very good. The dishes are well prepared, good looking and tasty. There was also live music that evening.

Unfortunately, this restaurant has been the most disappointing restaurant & drinks for our entire time in Edinburgh. Took forever to get the drinks and food, the drinks were awful, and the food is very mediocre with not a large selection to choose from. Staff basically forgot we existed and hardly checked on us for any water refills.

Vastly overpriced and the female bartender needs to learn how to pour a pint and not get stroppy when asked if she can at least put a head on the pint she had just poured,if looks could kill,myself and my group would've been dead. Tourist trap!

This is an adorable restaurant with a handful of rooms above it. The room was good-sized, clean and well decorated. The staff was kind and helpful. Breakfast was included and was delicious. The location is excellent—right on the Royal Mile but still within a block of the train station. It was my favorite hotel the entire trip even compared to fancier ones we stayed at.

Went to the restaurant for breakfast. The food was very good but service was terrible. Forgetting orders, waiting too long for sauces at the table and the bill. For a long period of time only appeared to have person behind the bar and nobody on the floor

Great hotel in the perfect location to explore Edinburgh.

Made a specific booking to watch a football friendly which required a £10 deposit to secure a table. Arrived and no table had been reserved for us which had the bar been busier, would have caused a problem. 10 minutes before kick-off, the manager attempts to put the game on despite already missing all the buildup which had started at 7pm. After the game was due to kick-off we asked what was going on and the manager was hesitant to apologise and took no responsibility. Since the booking for specifically for the friendly match we left in disappointment. Astonished that the bar took a deposit for the game to secure a table yet had not set aside a table for us nor were actually showing the game.

Made a booking at the pub to watch a football as it was advertised as showing the game. When we got there it seemed like they had no record of our booking, and just took us to a random open table - which was fine as it wasn’t too busy but still a bit strange, especially as during the booking process we had to pay a deposit for the table (even just for a table for 2). They weren’t showing the game when we first got there, even though the pregame coverage had started. We waited and about 10 minutes before kickoff they tried to start putting the match on - couldn’t manage. Kick off came and went. Asked several staff members and they said they were trying to get it on. Finally decided to leave and spoke to the manager - he was not very helpful or apologetic just said they were trying. Not their fault if they’re having technical difficulties but was overall a disappointing experience and felt that they weren’t responsive. Maybe next time it’s advertised that something will be shown, better to make sure everything works more than 10 minutes before it starts.

Great place - fantastic room and location especially for the price in central Edinburgh. Staff really helpful and friendly, especially Maan at breakfast, who went to buy oat milk for my coffee when it ran out (in the rain)! Very kind and very much appreciated, would def recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the city.

Good for drinks, didn't have food. Only downside was the hen do's vaping in the bar - why do folk (they were well over 50!) think its acceptable to vape inside when drinking 🙄

Came here for a drink on Monday night while on holiday, great music, variety of drinks and friendly staff.

Central location , staff were attentive. We had decided to have full meal here, we ordered drinks and 2 small plates for starters. Loaded fries and nachos.... These were not small, once we finished these couldn't eat anything else. Price was great too, I thought it would be a lot more expensive than it is. We will definitely be back.

We’ve stayed here twice on various trips and it remains our go-to! Rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurant/ bar is always fun. Location cannot be beat!

Disappointed with the standard of service. Observed the waitress double dip straw into drink to ‘test’. Disgusting. The mojito we ordered was basically a lime and soda drink. The atmosphere and entertainment were excellent but customer service is a big let down.

Had breakfast here on Saturday morning - very nice breakfast and fast service. Expensive for what it was, in my opinion, but it is in the city centre and on the Royal Mile so it was a similar price to other places in this particular area.

Duur, luidruchtig, slechte akoestiek, onnodig onvriendelijk en kortaf barpersoneel (wat zeer atypisch is in Edinburgh). Hebben de klanten duidelijk niet nodig, dus laten we dan ook maar wegblijven met zijn allen.

Drinks and food were FABULOUS. Service super friendly and efficient. Our server Dimitrio was attentive and one of the best servers we encountered during our time in Edinburgh. Worth a visit. You won't be disappointed.

We had an amazing experience today at the inn on the mile. We where lucky to get a table, with Edinburgh being really full and busy. The Food and drinks were delicious, but the most amazing part about our experience was our waiter, Euan. Euan did an amazing job at making us feel really welcomed and cared for. He is such a kind person and was always checking in on us. Thanks to Euan we had a really nice experience. <3

What a terrible experience. We. went in at about 9:30pm, after visiting a few pubs in the area we decided to have a coffee to wake us up a little. The place was not busy, about 10 people, all of which were eating. They had 3 staff, one waiting tables one behind the bar and one on hot drinks. We sat down, and after 40 mins no one had come to see us so I went to the bar. I ordered two lattes, that are a little expensive at over £4 each. Sat down and waited for the drinks. They arrived in what can only be described as small cappuccino cups, overflowing which sloshed onto the saucers when placed at the table. Both drinks were warm at best and didn't really taste great. Normally I would have said something and refused to pay, but we were on holidays and didn't want to cause any grief. Terrible service and terrible coffee

Had a lovely evening meal at the Inn on the Mile last week. Last minute, didn't book, but luckily there was a table. Excellent service and fantastic meal for a reasonable price. Nice atmosphere. Loved the pink glass lights!

Lively bar/restaurant. Booked in for food and to watch the boxing. On arrival found last had actually even penned us in (even tho we booked inside the restaurant with her the day before) but luckily was able to get a seat. All service at the bar Food reasonably, but. Upon having the turkey toast for £18. Only 2 tiny potatoes and not even a Yorkshire pudding so not great value for money Overall. Ok for a drink.

Positives - City centre which is great for if just wanting to have a look around the old town and historical places. Staff are great & very helpful if looking to book anywhere for dinner, recommendations & even to help find a taxi for our trip back to airport. Breakfast was beautiful with an amazing full cooked Scottish breakfast that I wish I could have let my family taste back home!

Have stayed here before, this time the breakfast was not so good, you couldn’t take off the full English th8ngs you didn’t like or want, shame as I had to settle for bacon an pancakes, which was a disappointment, as the bacon was undercooked an covered in white slime, should have been streaky bacon well cooked with pancakes. The full English the black pudding my husband couldn’t eat as so over cooked, staff was friendly, room was lovely but bed was.like climbing Mount Everest far too high, although comfortable. Room 6

The room was very nicely appointed. The location of the hotel is ideal. HOWEVER, the hotel is located with a side alley which has a disco. The disco-bar operates until 3:00 a.m. and patrons exit into the street and continue yelling, singing and making noice until around 4:00 a.m. Every single night of my stay was a nightmare. The phone did not call out to any desk management or police. Received no assistance. Took days before we could catch up on much needed rest. Avoid this place if you're in need of sleep.

We stopped by twice. Once just for drinks, the second time for lunch. Food was good, though the Croque Monsieur was cooler than it should have been. If it had been warmer we'd probably give it a 5 star as it was tasty.

We had a group dinner in the charming bar and were very pleased with the service and food. The servers did their jobs efficiently and also had a sense of humor which we appreciated.

We popped in here as was quiet whilst everywere else seemed rammed on a bank holiday weekend. Price as expected in a tourist area was on the more expensive side. The items we wanted were not available, which given current climate is understandable. When we did order they got three out of four meals wrong which is a tad annoying. The haggis was the worst I have had on Scotland since arriving (I've only had it four times admittedly). Very disappointing

Excellent drinks, service and live music on a Saturday evening with girl friends. Fantastic location. Full bar and cocktails menu will not disappoint. Guitar/cover music added to the ambiance, with space to dance if you want. Great staff too
