Unas ensaladas y platos principales.

At the fringe, there was no other place near a venue than this one to get a quick drink. The beer and wine (only one variety) is cheap, the cafe cheerful and not a bad place for a pit stop for a quick snack.

A few years ago, I'd go into Double Dutch once or twice a week to grab a much needed coffee in lecture breaks. It was well-priced, friendly, and tasty - there was also a deal where you could have a coffee and a bacon roll for £2.50 (in my case, the coffee was a mocha with whipped cream). The manager recognised me, and we'd chat.

The food was poor and uninspiring. They brought our mains before we had finished our starters. Chef wore an ordinary jersey, no apron or whites and spent whole time chatting to waitress. Turkish radio blared the whole time and we were the only people in. I certainly won't be going back! I asked why a Turkish restaurant was called Double Dutch and turns out it used to be called that - not bothered to change it!!!

Like other reviewers visiting the Fringe we called in here due to it's location which is very close to Udderbelly Assembly(since relocating) and Gilded Balloon. It was about 10.00pm and was very quiet with only a couple of tables busy. The drinks were expensive so we declined. We both wondered whether to stay or leave and should have trusted our instincts. I ordered the meze and my husband the bangers and mash. Mine was ok with a range of portions on one plate with a pitta bread. The bangers and mash were cold so they microwaved them. The sausages were cheap and the gravy which was like a huge thick black lake on the plate was overwhelming and from a catering mix.We ate and left immediately very disappointed.

We had an hour and a half to kill between Fringe shows, we had passed this place several times and it always seemed to be busy so we gave it a go. We were given menus and ordered straight away, then we waited, and waited and waited! We got our food after 40 minutes, the place was less than 1/3 full! My partner ordered burger and chips, he ate it it but it didn't look great and the chips were horrible. I had falafel with hummus, I couldn't believe how little I got for the price, the salad had seen better days and it took me a while to work out that the bits of carrot on top of the tasteless hummus were the roasted vegtables listed on the menu. We ate and left quickly, never to return. I'm guessing from reading the other reviews that this wasn't just an off day. The only good thing I can say is that the waiting staff were very nice!

Went here for a cuppa and a pastry on a Saturday morning. As we walked in the whole place smelt of chip fat. We would have left but we wanted to keep an eye on a queue for a festival show across the road. We each had a coffee and a croissant. The croissants tasted of the smell of chip fat (yuck) and the butter we got with them tasted off. The coffee was drinkable but not great. The staff didn't seem particularly interested although they weren't rude and service was pretty quick. I won't be going back.

Very disappointing. We popped in between shows at the festival. It was busy and quite lively. We placed our order and then waited forever only to discover the kitchen had lost our order. The food, when it came, was ordinary. The waiting staff were very nice.

Im an American living in Edinburgh and I have heard about this place for a long time, people keep telling me I should try it.... We were meant to go to "brunch" with friends on a Sunday so one friend suggested this place. Its one of those things.....I never went before because I had my doubts but I still had a glimmer of hope. I have yet to find a real brunch place in this city, quite frankly I have pretty much given up. I ordered eggs benedict, I have to say that the eggs were well cooked, the muffin was right and the sauce was well done BUT, it was served with a pile of ice berg lettus with tomato on top, nothing else.....ummmm, please don't ask. The Mediterranean plate looked somewhat ok despite the completely white beard toast, straight out of the wonder bag, and the meat and cheese on the plate that quite frankly seemed like it had seen better days. The ham and cheese croissant was just that with melted cheese over the top.....The service was average with the staffsattitude a bit dismissive. Coffee not bad. Thankfully it was a beautiful day and we sat on the terrace otherwise my review would have been much less favorable. When you have entered nirvana in a place like Pasqual's in New Mexico it's hard to swallow double dutch. I think I will keep eating brunch at home.....better food, better service. Although I am going to give Urban Angel a try and report back.....

We stopped here for lunch one day, expecting it to be something like a cafe-- sandwiches and the like. It was far better than that! I had hummus with roasted veg, a side salad and couscous, and it was fabulous all around. I'd certainly return.

Double Dutch has quickly become my favourite coffee/lunch spot. The mediterranean-inspired food is fresh and delicious, the atmosphere is bright and friendly, and the coffee is wonderful... all for a reasonable price and in a great location. I have taken many friends and family-members here, and they agree. I highly recommend you try it out!

Felt like a local coffee shop due to the superbly friendly staff. A nice atmosphere. Well done to them. It should be what all places do, but they don’t. Top marks all.

Overpriced, under taste and seemingly under cooked bacon roll (for decorum I'll just say 'unsettled' digestive track followed). Stale cinnamon bun. At least the coffees and hot chocolate was ok.

I made a booking on Saturday for 3 people at 1.30pm. When I arrived, there was a sign on the door to say they close at 2pm every day. I went in and asked why they hadn't pointed that out when I made the booking that day. The male staff member said he had me down for 1pm and they've been closing at 2pm for months. I said I hadn't been there for months so how was I supposed to know that. His response was to make an angry noise then storm off through to the kitchen, leaving the lady to apologise for any misunderstanding. Very bad customer service. I won't be going in again.

Just returned home after a fabulous 2 night stay here. Rooms are amazing. And in such a fantastic building with great history. Huge beds, great bathrooms including a bath which these days many hotels don’t have. Hate showers!! Really warm room the whole time so no need to worry about it ever being cold. Very quiet to say it’s very central. Great touches like providing a decent hair dryer and GHD straighteners!! Oh and the Tunnocks Teacakes. The staff were very extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfasts are lovely. Really enjoyed our stay and will definitely see you all next year.
