Had a terrible experience here. I booked this place for my partners 30th birthday meal (which I stated when booking) weeks in advance, however we arrived to find the pub was shut, despite having my booking confirmed and it stating online that it was open. I rang the number, the doorbell and knocked the door as I could hear people inside and was completely ignored, however as we were leaving the owner came out after a van arrived and a very suspicious transaction occurred. I asked the owner about why the pub was shut and that I had booked for my partners birthday. He was not apologetic in the slightest and told me that I should have received a text or email informing me it was closed, which I hadn't!! I would advise avoiding this pub at all costs as they do not care about the customers at all.

Went in for a drink after a hike - the place had a cool atmosphere. Sadly, only store bought produce for regular prices was available due to a “delayed” delivery issue. In addition, there is a lack of consistent pricing, as I was charged £42 for 4 cans and a wine whilst previously we were only charged £21 for 4 cans. This was possibly an accidental double up price due to an assumption that we hadn’t paid when in fact we did. However, when I tried to call and enquire about the overcharge I was hung up on. Then I asked in person and was told to email later on in the day with details instead, as he couldn’t look into it at the time. Yet, I was given no email address to use and none is available on the website. After research I managed to find an email from an old article however I have received no reply and have now left the area with no resolution :(

The brightest time of a very rainy day, we got at the Byre Inn a bit earlier than expected due to the incessant rain, we got a very warm welcome from Jason, the Landlord, had a few drinks and a friendly chat, made some new friends and ate the best steak I had in a long while! A gem of a place, if you're in the Trossachs, be sure to visit the Byre Inn !

Great atmosphere. Very friendly staff and the chef cooked our meal in a pizza oven which made it so tasty even after the place was fully booked he knocked us something up last minute just as a favour. Can’t wait to come back😂

Due to a problem in the kitchen... the end product wasn't cooked to their usual quality. So they claimed. We were told to come back tomorrow, all we wanted was a simple pizza tho.

The sign calls it a gastro pub with real ale. We had a very average pub lunch, soup, sandwiches, and there was very little on offer as regards real ale. Also very annoying music. Not one that we would be in a rush to visit again.

One of our favourite places as it has character in great wooded setting. They have added a yurt in last year which I think somewhat spoils the quaint outdoor setting that was perfect in summer with outdoor seating in good weather but I can see the requirement for shelter when we have so much rain. However, I think that this gives the site a hippy feeling and the tent possibly a damp smell.

After a walk from Strathyre to Callendar we drove to the Byre for a stop off. The manager was warm and friendly. We had an interesting chat and he made myself, hubby and little dog very welcome. As did his partner and a member of staff who brought his little Jack Russell along to meet us. They played our music requests and we felt so relaxed that we stayed until 5pm and had something to eat. The food was good and just what we needed after a long walk.

Stopped by here for lunch with my partner by chance as we were passing through after going up Ben A’an. We live in the New Forest so love a quirky country pub. Enjoyed the food, which was locally sourced (another thing we enjoy). Also loved the music being played from behind the bar and there is the option to add your own requests. Imagine it would be a great place for live music/evening entertainment if you’re staying in the area.

Went for a romantic meal based on the previous reviews. Massive disappointment the interior was like a factory canteen. Bare wooden tables which were really sticky. No menu on the tables, you have to memorise what was written on the blackboard. Blackpudding bonbons turned out to be marble sized and rock hard. Boar burger was an assault to the taste buds. Intergalactic lager smelt and tasted like wet old socks, the recommended 'Hoppy' beer was undrinkable. Half way through the evening they started playing Italian/Spanish operatta at full volume. The exterior of the Byre was derelict, the grounds were overgrown and weeds everywhere. Don't waste your time or money here, it's gone down hill since the last owner.

We called in one afternoon to check out the menu and liked what we saw. We booked a table for the following evening and were told we would have a table beside the open fire. On arrival the fireside tables were taken and we were shown to a back room which was dreary and needed dusting and a coat of paint. The menu was limited but interesting. All the dishes we ordered were excellent and very reasonably priced. Congratulations to the chef! All drinks were overpriced. The waitress was delightful. She made us feel very welcome and was efficient and helpful. She was on her own serving and worked very hard, constantly moving in and out of the kitchen and checking out all the tables. The barman was an eccentric extrovert and the eclectic music very loud, so this really wasn't the place to come for a quiet meal. When we went to pay there was no itemised bill available so we were unable to check it.

Read some great reviews so decided to book for lunch whilst on a week long break at Strathyre Forest. The pub is in a lovely location and is somewhat quirky. We were given a warm welcome by our Barmaid/waitress and told the menu was on the wall! A very limited choice of burger, fish, curry or sandwiches was available. I went for the burger and my wife had soup and sandwiches. The limited choice was understandable given it’s the type of place where a dozen walkers could suddenly descend upon . The food wait was very reasonable considering it was fairly busy and not many staff on. Unfortunately the wait had to be endured feeling like you were in a disco at 3am with music blaring out at a ridiculous volume. It just didn’t go with the setting. Food was fine but one gripe for me, the drinks prices. £3 for soft drinks a £5 for alcoholic ones, that’s it! When you’re driving and your two soft drinks of a small lemonade and a lime and soda costs £6 it makes the nice food you’ve just had have a somewhat tarnished taste.

On a Sunday they have a limited menu, soup, roast and a dessert. No coffees. Many people did not stay on learning that they could not have a hot drink or that if they wanted food it had to be off the Sunday menu and they just wanted something simple such as a sandwich. We had the roast beef and roast lamb and both were really tasty.

We were taken here by friends. The Byre Inn is in a lovely setting, small but comfortable. They also have a large yurt outside for larger parties or to cater for more diners. The menu is provided On a blackboard above the fire. Small but adequate for most people, it does not cater to vegans but I’m sure they would if asked. The drinks are stated as being £3 for soft drinks and £5 for alcoholic drinks. We asked for 2 white wines, a gin and a soft drink for our first order. We were given two small glasses of wine. Our second order was a small glass of red wine and two glasses of white wine, we were then given two large glasses of white wine and told that this was their standard and small was to be requested, so why were we given small on our first order? Not a complaint, just an observation to ask for large glasses of wine if you want value for money with your alcohol order, as it is the most expensive part of the meal. Nice place to stop off if you are in the area.

Actually all set for a huge disappointment. Came in and our table was busy so shown through back. Not the same setting and not suppose to have dogs. Waited for menus and realised the 1 starter/main/desert wasn't the specials but all they had... only a red meat roast or nut roast. We had 3 not read meat eaters and a nut allergy so they had no options. I asked 3 times could something not be made sand which, chips, pasta was told no with absolutely no apology. I mean they fronted this up like we were being ridiculous to ask.

Really limited roast dinner menu ... most of which was unavailable ... ended up only choice was gammon or pheasant ... no beef, no lamb, no steak pie .... considering the menu was so limited to start with, it wasn't even 1pm, it was a disgrace ... and it still took them ages to serve the same veggies, a couple of slices of tasteless gammon, and used the same gravy on everything!! We come here regularly and today looked forward to our chips and hot chocolate. No chips...on a cold wintry Sunday, how short sighted . The £5 for warm milk and a flake that the spoon got lost in the glass while trying to dissolve the flake is a disgrace. It still looked like milk and tasted nothing like hot chocolate. Beer expensive, modern decorations and music have ruined what was one of the few old rustic pubs left in the area that was always good quality food( great chips!), reasonable value and very welcoming. We called in for a late light lunch as the nearby tearoom was closed. Byre Inn was warm and welcoming with a great atmosphere if you like old fashioned places. The cheese and biscuits, coffee and soup we had were all excellent and not long in coming. Being on a walking trail it's a pity that the inn doesn't offer snacks such as scones or shortbread. I didn't like the music which was decidely un-traditional, but not too loud in the back room away from the bar area. I had high hopes for The Byre Inn when we arrives, it’s a lovely wee place. It’s cosy inside and dog friendly which is great. We (myself, husband and Mother in Law) stopped in for a Sunday roast, which was a bit pricey but we were happy to spend more for a freshly cooked meal. I was so disappointed when the meal arrived. Party of four, evening meal. Drink expensive, £20 for a bottle of house wine, and local beer cloudy, sour tasting. (Was told "it's meant to be cloudy ...."). Food, limited menu, which would have been fine, had the food been ok, but, generally, it wasn't. Battered fish soggy, but tasting ok, burgers dry and overcooked, lettuce and tomato in a dish is a disappointing salad, no dressing offered or available, no sauce, pickles, dressings available for the burger. So, generally very average. Serving staff unable to deal with a quietly made comment about all the above, just a shrug and a sorry about that. £20 per head.

Having cycled nearly 12km from Callander along some of the most beautiful lochside views, my 2 daughters and niece (12, 7 & 6 yrs old) had earned a good lunch and refreshments. We know the Byre Inn well and have been a few times over the years, however was stunned by the prices! A cheese sandwich (& chips) for £10... a hot chocolate for £5.... i have never ever seen a hot chocolate for that price even in London. I was nearly going to pay it as we were so desperate and the Brig O Turk tea rooms have closed down! However when I saw the state of the empty fridges and then the Tesco 1L orange juice used for my niece’s soft drink was a mere £3... I stopped myself. Talk about taking advantage of a captive audience. So I ordered 4 soft drinks and 3 packets of crisps for a measly £15 and thought I’d been let off lightly. The loud music inside was quite pleasant outside as it didn’t deafen you.

We went as it was near to our accommodation, but what a gem. The roast beef was cooked to perfection and the wide selection of vegetables where a wonderful meal of themselves. All four of us agreed the quality, taste and presentation made this our best roast beef ever. The parfait and the cheese board did not disappoint either. Definitely going back again before we have head home.

This is a great little place, just a shame it is so remote as we would love to visit it more often. Lovely pint of real ale to wash down the best ever home made burger. If you are in the Trossachs area then you should seek this place out - you won't be disappointed.

Friendly and helpful staff, great pub grub at a fair price. Dog friendly and all that a country inn should be. Really nice vibe about this place. Music is good too. Worth a visit.

We found the Byre Inn by random chance while we were looking for the bicycle tree in Brig o’ Turk. We saw the people sitting outside and thought that it looked like an amazing place...then we ate there, and just fell in love with it. Food was yummy, the staff were cheerful and attentive, and the setting was just spectacular!

We initially came for the lamb shank only to be told that it hasn't been on the menu for a few months. The inn was nevertheless so inviting with a fire going and a warm greeting and amazing oldies but goodies music that we stayed. Definitely no regrets, the food was freshly prepared and sooo tasty. My husband had the venison (which came with red cabbage, carrot purée, haggis bonbon and fried mashed potatoes) and said that it was one of the best he's ever had. I had a "simple" burger, which had a slice of tomatoe, good pickles, perfectly cooked rare beef, oignons, crispy bacon and melted cheese. It came with a great salad with about 6 varieties of greens... To die for.

Great staff, and undoubtedly the best meal I've ever eaten! Lovely location, gret choice of top wines, quality whiskys and real ales.

Popped in after a hill walk with a few mates. First impression was that it had a bit of a well deserved spruce up. Ordered at the bar and decided to open a tab as we intended to eat, that was our first mistake.....the prices in this place are horrendous. The bloke behind the bar went into overdrive trying to justify the quality of the burger, to me a burger is pretty much, well. a burger. Anyway he was far too intrusive and needs to learn when to back off and leave customers alone. Drinks also massively overpriced, loud pop music being played. For me and my mates an experience not to be repeated. Funnily enough we bumped into a couple of well heeled holiday makers who were staying in nearby upmarket accommodation.....their thoughts echoed ours.

We’d been for a bike ride and popped in for a pint. Nice welcome, staff friendly and welcoming. Loved the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy reference (cocktail of the day Pangalactic Gargleblaster)

My husband and two friends cycled here for lunch today and were disappointed. The beer and food was expensive, we all had fish and chips small portions, expensive and nothing special, and several of the tap beers were not available. The bill came to £79 for three pints of beers, three fish and chips and three coffee. Even the service was a bit off-hand.

On a few days cycling in the Callander area, my wife and I stopped here on the offchance of a pub lunch. WHAT a surprise! Excellent beer and fine-dining quality food, at reasonable prices. This place has a top quality chef, imaginative and inspired. This is far better than "gastro pub" food.

Byre Inn, the hidden away gem in Callander which can be reached by car or on foot. The surrounding area of the Byre Inn is very peaceful and brimming with life. The outside space is very nice and the exterior of the Inn looks very well kept. The inside is fantastic and so is the welcome, on our 1st visit we met Charlie & Jakob, two bubbly personalities and very professional at the same time. The menu only had a few choices but every dish we tried was very nice and tasty. The bar had a very good selection of beers, lagers and Gins and the Inn has bar seating and a restaurant for fine dining.

After remortgaging the house we decided to get some lunch at the Snack Stop. We had lots of money in the bank and decided to use as much as possible. Suffice to say we weren’t let down. Upshot is if you want a ridiculously expensive lunch on paper plates and cardboard cutlery then this is the place for you. £6.50 for a box of 6 sad looking nuggets , £9.99 for a baked potato with 2 fillings. Keep driving past so your kids will get some Christmas presents this year.
