The food served here is just superb, and the price is amazing. I've yet to find a better full English breakfast anywhere in the Okehampton area.

My wife and I are completing a 6 month 'winter let' in this small village of Exbourne (Devon) and we have found all the people her to be so friendly - not least the little shop / coffee /eating place named The Burrow. We have seen a number of different people serving us - all very friendly and without exception... It is an unusual venue, in that it is built into a hill and when we first arrived, there were sheep grazing on the 'roof'.

Wonderful little community shop that strives to sell local produce. Fantastic range of products available. Also available here is a cafe, where you can get breakfasts and lunches; good range of choices available on the menu and all the food is cooked really well. Staff are really friendly and helpful. All around, its just a really well thought out shop/cafe. Would highly recommend, especially to holiday makers looking for a quick bite on there way to see what else this stunning county has to offer.

It was pleasing to be able to note the progressive introduction of small, interesting items of attractive fused glass creations by Anne Stuart, who has a workshop in Exbourne and puts in stints as a volunteer at The Burrow. Local woodturner, Jamie Firth's smaller pieces of his work, as well as paintings by local artists, a good selection of greetings cards and beautifully crafted pieces of evocative litoral buildings and small, soft handicraft compliment the grocery offerings of this award winning community store. Gradually, The Burrow, under the day-to-day leadership of manager, Nikki, is building up a loyal customer base and the food offering now features the most delicious "Black Pudding, Scotch Eggs" that are a speciality of volunteer, Jean, who makes then each Wednesday. Similarly, southeast Asian, deliciously fresh, samosas and spring-rolls also feature on the menu, but all are subject to availability and disappear almost as quickly as they are made!!! A decent place to drop into if roaming this beautiful part of Devon!

We called in here on a chilly November day as Himself wanted to show me this great little community shop/cafe. A nice design allows it to fit neatly into the village high street. The shop is varied and the cafe a little gem. Clean, warm and welcoming with a lovely second hand book shelf near the tables. I treated myself to my first ever Conn Iggulden novel (the second in the War of the Roses trilogy as the first wasn't on the shelf!) whilst waiting for our cooked to order all day breakfast. Nice local produce including yummy mushrooms that hadn't been stewed and actually tasted mushroomy. Excellent value and a really nice cup of Americano. Run by volunteers, there was nothing amateurish about the service we received on this visit

And you are lucky to be getting one star after a male member of staff told my Dad to lose weight so he could get by him! Not only was this extremely rude, but hardly customer service is it! Fortunately my Dad has broad shoulders but someone else could have been very upset by such a disrespectful remark.

Ok so it was a Sunday and we were out for a group bike ride and one of the lads suggests we try The Burrow for a mid ride coffee. He said he had googled the location and it closed at 11am and as it was only 10 we had [plenty of time. I missed the comment myself but as the firts few of the group went in a female member of staff siad they were open but we would have to be gone by 11? charming, never the less they got their act together and we managed to drink and eat cake before the deadline. It does make me wonder, buisnesses need all the trade they can get these days and this quiant location is off the beaten track to say the least and 15 customers turning up on a quiet sunday should have treated as a blessing. having siad that the coffee and cakes were good and the suroundings pleasant. We will go again to see if there is an attitude shift.

Living in a near by town I have visited on a number of occasions to use both functions of the Burrow! The Cafè I cannot fault, however the manner and attitude of one of the older female staff members leaves much to be desired, particularly on the post office side. Charming little place with lots of essentials and a great asset to the village I am sure. However manners cost nothing, and I have heard similar feedback from others in and around the area regarding her attitude and lack of customer service skills. The shop is well stocked, and there is always lots of fresh items available as well for purchase, Nicky is always very pleasant and attentive in the shop area of the Burrow. Definitely check it out if you are passing through.

The Borrow stands as testiment to the devoted team of local residents who actually did something for their community to bring back important local facilities! An underground shop, skilfully designed by Exbourne's local architect, Steve Blakeman, it offers simple cafe-style food in clean surroundings. The shop offers an eclectic range of provisions that serve local basic foodstuff needs as well as those of holiday makers in local self-catering who might like to sample a limited range of good quality, locally made & grown produce. It's shop manageress, Nicky, is most welcoming and is ably supported by a small team of helpful volunteers. Immediately opposite the Burrow is the Red Lion Public House that has been adjudged the North CAMRA Pub of the year for a second time! A short stroll down the High Street is All Saints Church which is well worth a visit & donation!

We detoured off to The Burrow en route to Cornwall for breakfast. Definitely worth the short detour off the A30. Good cooked breakfast (veggie and full English and friendly service. Parking on the road. Don't park in the pub car park.

If you're visiting the area you should really make time for a visit to the Burrow to support this wonderful community shop, post office and cafe which is community led by local volunteers. They do a lovely breakfast at a decent price and all the staff are very friendly.

During a short visit to Devon, I was advised to visit the Burrow in Exbourne which I duly did. What a wonderful experience, not so much a restaurant as a thriving community cafe serving good quality simple home prepared food but with the advantage of being combined with the only village shop and doubling as a resource centre, together with the post office. Everyone was so friendly, it just seemed to be the hub of the village, I would reccommend it to all.

First time in Bearslake Inn and it was delightful, we will be going back. The service was amazing and the food superb. Having recently moved to the area we have never been before to say we were pleased is an understatement.
