I'd have give 5 * but unfortunately for me my chips were over done but didn't want to make a fuss over chips.. my 9 year old Daughter chose the location today and wanted to go local and she wasn't disappointed with her meal bangers and mash. She left with a full tummy and can't wait to go back. The staff were friendly and the place had a good vibe even hearing the chef kicking out a few tunes whilst busy in the kitchen. Good Value for money

Since The Burn was taken over, I have 3 words… The Willington Warrior! Is an orgasm in the mouth possible, you ask? 100% This Chef certainly know their way around a pair of buns. There’s no need to buy a drink, your mouth waters enough. The combination of flavours is borderline sexual. As for the burger buns. My only recommendation is you use Brioche Buns, and ordinary buns, to appeal to all. Now as for service. Fantastic. One thing I will suggest, is The Burn should do a food challenge. A giant meal, that if completed, is rewarded free of charge. Though, the person writing this review, would probably put them out of business by eating it every day… and completing it. Great place! Friendly staff! And an even better Chef!

Great food. We walked in at one minute past eight and luckily the kitchen said they would serve us. We both had burgers and they were lovely. Home made chips and onion rings, fresh salad and amazing burgers. So good to have our local pub back serving great food and good priced drinks. The board outside said food served 12-8.pm. We went at 7pm only to be told the kitchen was closed. Why not get the board in then? Went following night- waitress told us of at least four things on the menu that weren’t available. We also ordered 2 different types of wine- neither of which were available. I ordered sausage with black pudding mash- when the meal came there was no black pudding in the mash. When I complained to the waitress she said the chef “had forgotten” to put it in. There’s only 3 ingredients in the meal- how can you forget one of them? Chef never came out to explain but left it to the teenage waitresses. I was even not offered a reduction in the price. The young waitresses were really nice but the whole place is amateurish. I was expecting to see Basil Fawlty in the kitchen on the way out. We won’t be back!

The Burn Inn is a community local in Willington in the heart of County Durham Access - mostly good, right in the town centre on the main road with high frequency bus services right outside. Close to the Durham - Bishop Auckland off road cycle path and it has a rough surface car park adjacent. There is a small step at the entrance which may pose a problem for wheelchair users. The Pub - one large L shaped room with a conservatory through a door on the left there is a large pub garden outside up some steps. There are real ales available plus all the usual Lagers and bitters. The food is standard pub favourites, but well done and good value. The pub has live music, pie nights and every day of the week is dedicated to some sort of food. There are good deals like two mains for £12 and a bonus point for ketchup being in a bottle and not little sachets.I could not see any facilities for disabled people, the toilets are small and cramped and anybody with mobility issues would find them difficult All in all a good local pub with lots going on and some decent staff

Usually come to this restaurant for a drink on the weekend, as it is walking distance from Oakenshaw. So this weekend we had a long walk to Crook, and thought we'd give the Burn a call to see if we could be squeezed in for Sunday lunch in half an hour's time to be told that was absolutely fine and the table would be waiting. So off we went, 30mins walk from Crook to eat at our local. When we arrived we were faced with a younger chap who then advised us they'd ran out of food. Never have i booked a table in a restaurant to arrive to then be told there is no food left. After discussing with my other half, I entered the pub again to ask if they had ANY food at all, starters, the normal menu, anything. To then receive a laugh from the gent behind the bar- I didnt realise it was funny to book a table and there be no food left? The Gent behind the bar could have handled this a lot better and frankly was just plain RUDE. To be honest I think the kitchen had turned all ovens off, and they didn't have the honesty to admit this- from working in hospitality there should have been some sort of food they could have offered us. This was their mistake and not even to be offered an apology, a drink, or even a pack of crisps would have done us until we got home. Service has never been of a high standard on every visit we've had and always seem to be a queue at the bar. Completely thrown aback by the way the young waiter spoke to us and this has really put us off coming back ever again if i'm honest. Don't book here if you want a meal!! God forbid they serve food to you when you've booked a table! *Also noticed that their food hygiene rating isn't the best which has also put me off eating here. I'll stick to the drinks.

I really wanted to write a good review as the two waitresses were absolutely lovely. They were talkative, welcoming and brilliant with the kids.We visited The Burn while passing. I briefly read reviews prior to visiting and was looking forward to sampling the food having seen positive feedback.I ordered the Chicken Parmo, which was ok but the big disappointment was the chips, they were way overdone as you can see by the colour in the photo and were really distasteful, I couldn’t bare to eat them once I tried them. The kids did enjoy their meal as did my wife, apart from the chips.I hope this was a one off and not their normal standard, if only the food matched the quality of staff it would have been 5 out of 5.

We visited this establishment with a group of friends celebrating a birthday. My partner had the mince and 'dumpling'. It was was swimming in oil and grease. It was mushy and grey and lacked flavor. This was pointed out to a member of staff who looked at it, took the plate and walked away without a sorry or anything. My partner then started to feel unwell and subsequently spent the night poorly in the bathroom. I have made contact twice, once to be ignored and another to be told they have been busy and will reply when they are at the desk. Im still waiting for the reply and not expecting one. Id not recomend this place to anyone as more than one in our group had the same to say about the mince. Avoid this place unless you like ignorant staff and bad mince

Decided to try for evening meal, decor nice, bar staff helpful but positive comments end there food disappointing. Tried sharing platter for starter found it overpriced for what it was compared to other places and lacking imagination in presentation. For main course Shepherds pie, this was overheated and scalding hot, so much so burnt throat, it was served with a side of mash, a few carrots (pre frozen) and peas. With Shepherds pie as tradition topped with mash and then served with a side of further mash was death by potato! However, Pub pleasant enough for a drink.

Heard that The Burn has recently re-opened under new management so decided to try Sunday lunch there again. Beautiful! We had delicious, tender roast beef & pork, nicely cooked veg, gorgeous gravy but, best of all were the yorkshire puddings. We ate around 1pm and sometimes, at this time, puddings have been become hard & dry but, not here, not now. They tasted so fresh, I think they had just come out of the oven. Absolutely scrummy! Very pleasant staff serving on and small portions available to anyone is a brilliant idea. Some people simply don't want a large dinner. Will certainly be going back again soon.

After ages trying to decide what to have we all enjoyed the food, especially the range for children, yes they have the normal 'kids menu' but they will also half a normal meal so my daughter had gammon which she really enjoyed. Makes a change for children to be able to choose proper food instead of being fed nuggets and chips all the time! Get yourself there you won't be disappointed! Our bill for family of three came to £20, including drinks (driving so only had pop) real good value!
