Where do I start!... me and my partner stayed here for our 3rd year anniversary and we could not have chosen a better place, perfect location, only a short drive from bakewell, and a pleasant drive to Hartington where we did our walk around the dales of the river dove (HIGHLY recommended absolutely stunning) . The pub is just beautiful, cosy, not to mention incredibly spotless and welcoming. Our room was so perfect,so comfortable with everything you need and kept to a High standard of cleanliness. The food was 10/10. I especially have to mention the steak and ale pie....oh my goodness that was delicious! Service was also 10/10! I could go on about this pub and inn forever. Thankyou so much, this stay has created a special memory for us. we will definitely be back! Thankyou to Wendy,Blake,Andy and Spencer. You guys are amazing! Love,Elizabeth and George :)

We were on holiday nearby and booked a table for dinner. It was a very wet evening, the end of a wet day and when we arrived the pub was packed. The staff were incredibly busy but were welcoming and friendly and our orders were taken fairly quickly. There was a bit of a wait for the food, not surprisingly as they were so busy but this didn’t spoil our enjoyment and when our main courses came they were both delicious. I had the duck and my partner the sea bream. Portions were just right and having enjoyed our mains so much we managed to make space for dessert. We both had the sticky ginger pudding which was excellent. Would definitely recommend this pub for the food and friendliness of the staff.

We had a short break in Derbyshire, staying in Foolow. We had three meals at this lovely pub down the road from the holiday cottage; two evening meals and a Sunday lunch. Lovely welcome and service, very accommodating for our young dog. We really enjoyed the food, well presented and very tasty indeed. Great portions. Others obviously agreed as the pub was very busy which was wonderful to see. I can highly recommend this pub if you are in the area.

We stayed 2 nights in mid April with friends on a walking trip. The rooms are very clean and everything you would need. The food is excellent, breakfast was plenty and we had 3 meals there and all were excellent. But what makes the hotel is the staff. The Manager was very helpful and friendly even if he is a Sheffield Wednesday fan 😉 the girls in the restaurant and behind the bar were great and special mention to Sylvia at breakfast who is a star, every hotel should have a Sylvia . Fully recommend the Bull , some great walks from it and the food is great. Hopefully will get back there sometime.

Boyfriend booked this and hadn’t quite realised it was 40 minutes from us (and we pass numerous places on route) I thought after such a drive nothing could be worth the effort. However…whilst it’s not cheap it was amazing. I absolutely loved it and despite it not being all that local to us I would certainly make the trip again. I hold my mothers Sunday dinners above all…however a match may now have been set…if not won

Top rate service from two very pleasant and helpful gentlemen, and delicious food to die for! Generous portions and beautifully cooked and served. As our party went with a dog, I sent an email first asking if she would be allowed in. The positive answer arrived very quickly, and upon arrival, the barman even asked if I was the one who had written the email! Such a lovely touch to show he remembered, and they had even prepared an area to accommodate the dog. This was our first visit, but it certainly won't be the last. I'd happily recommend this place at the drop of a hat. Thank you, gents.

We holidayed in Foolow over half-term. Arriving at the Bull’s Head on a Sunday afternoon, the pub was buzzing. It was immediately obvious that everyone knew each other, but staff and patrons alike were so welcoming that we quickly fell into conversation. We only went for a drink, but went back twice for dinner after that. The food was excellent and the staff wonderfully attentive. It is so rare to find a genuine community pub - even our dogs made friends!

Fabulous lunch for two. One confit duck leg and one fish and chips (although we asked for skinny fries). The fish and chips were declared the best ever! Beautiful moist and tender duck with a range of extremely tasty accompaniments. The lunch menu is short, but has some lovely dishes. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice to eat in a traditional pub without music blaring out making conversation difficult. Will definitely return.

My goodness me, what a fabulous place! The apartment is above the pub and is a very well-appointed self contained 2 bedroomed flat. Simply but tastefully decorated, with white walls, interesting prints on the walls, roller blinds & white linen. The two bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of storage. The beds are ridiculously comfortable, The 5 star rating is not untoward. The main living room is bright with windows on two sides. The views across open farm land are super. There is a small rooftop space outside the lounge for us gaspers! The staff have been delightful. The other exciting element of this place is that there are three additional, separate en-suite rooms, accessed from a shared landing. They too are sensitively furnished & look equally inviting. This is a perfect location for a shared holiday, but one where everyone gets their own front door; perfect for extended families, or groups of pals.
