The Bull's Head in Birmingham

Visited here after receiving an email about the recent refurb and new patio area. Upon arriving we found a lovely table. The patio is a really pleasant area to sit when the weather is nice. Unfortunately it’s all down hill from there. We decided to have a spot of lunch and picked up some menus. The choice I can only describe as poor but hubby found a meal and I decided to order from the tapas menu. Chicken wings and chunky chips. After a short wait the chicken wings came out on their own. I explained I had an order of chips with the wings and hubbies food to be told the chicken wings are a starter so the meal and the chips will come out when I’ve finished. I explained I ordered the chicken wings and chips off the tapas menu therefore as a meal not a starter. She said she would go and check and that’s the last we saw of her. After finishing my wings I went inside to ask where the chips were to be told it’s being dealt with. I once again explained that I had now eaten my wings and again she repeated that’s because they are a starter. Ten minutes later my chips arrived and so did hubbies meal which can only be described as disappointing and really not worth waiting for. I could not decide if my chips were undercooked, overcooked or cooked and reheated. Either way I left most of them. The visit can only be described as disappointing and will not return

Thankfully we ignored recent reviews and met friends for lunch Impressed with recent improvements and selected our table Welcomed by Cathy (server) and ordered our drinks then chose our food As we did not select a starter there was a delay before the food arrived. Attractively served and each was satisfied with their choice I would recommend this eatery

Disappointed with our recent visit to the refurbished Bulls Head. When a bill three hits £140 the food and service really needs to be on point. We waited 25 mins from being seated for our drinks to arrive. The starters took a further 20 mins after that. The mains were okay and just about justified the prices, but the desserts were a let down. A brownie should always be served with ice cream, not cream. The ice cream on the sticky toffee pudding was tasteless. Normal pub standards of food and service can’t apply when you’re charging these prices.

Tuvimos una gran noche con amigos para una comida fuera desde la reapertura. La decoración y el personal son muy atentos. Sin embargo a la hora del almuerzo tuvimos el sándwich de bistec donde el pan se quemó por los bordes y el bistec estaba tibio e informamos a un miembro del personal y se recalentó pero volvió a salir el mismo pan, más recientemente el pescado estaba delicioso cocinado, lamentablemente las fichas para nosotros cuatro eran duras como la roca y difíciles de cortar con un cuchillo. También hemos tenido una cena de domingo aquí desde la reapertura, que fue increíble en una ventaja.

Why is your restaurant so bad at catering for gluten free meals? You don't even bother stating if any any meals are gluten free, probably because practically nothing is on the menu or vegetarian etc. This is probably the worst eatery within 10 miles of Solihull for not stating anything as GF, VG. Instead you bring out a huge allergen list and try to embarass a customer because you can't be bothered to label your own meals. Don't you know what is in your own food you're serving. Unacceptable in 2025.

Un lugar encantador para comer con muy buena comida. El personal y el ambiente son muy buenos. Sin embargo, una cosa estropea nuestra visita de hoy para mí. La falta de órdenes secundarias adecuadas! Tenía el vientre de cerdo frito crujiente con patata rosti y espinaca. Me gustan mis verduras y no había pedidos secundarios, por ejemplo, verduras al vapor mixtas, que podía ordenar para agregar a mi plato principal. Mi pareja y yo hemos estado visitando este pub durante muchos años. Hemos visto muchos cambios, todos los cuales han mejorado esto , todo listo, acogedor y amable, pequeña joya de un pub. Buena comida, algunos de los servicios más amables y profesionales que hemos experimentado en cualquier pub hasta la fecha. Decidimos reservar nuestra cena de Navidad 2023 en el Bulls Head. Permítanme decir que hemos comido fuera el día de Navidad durante muchos años, pero nunca nos hemos sentido ningún pub / restaurante digno de volver por segunda vez, hasta que encontramos la cabeza de toros! Desde el momento en que caminamos en el día de Navidad, se sintió como Navidad. Todo el personal estaba vestido de maravilla, incluso algunos de los chicos tenían brillo en la barba y teniendo en cuenta que la Navidad se trata de sorpresas, bueno , las pequeñas sorpresas foodie estaban en un nivel diferente y hay champán a la llegada! Tuvimos un tiempo maravilloso allí y pedimos que nos pusieran en la lista de Navidad para 2024. Usted puede pensar ' ¿por qué me tomó tanto tiempo para escribir esta crítica? ' Bueno, esto fue solo por si nuestra Navidad 2023 era una experiencia única (ya que nos había decepcionado anteriormente por nuestra experiencia de comidas del día de Navidad en otros lugares) No fue así en el Bulls Head , ¿podría ser el día de Navidad de 2024 tan bueno o mejor que el año anterior ? -¡absolutamente podría! Todo el mundo fue más allá para hacernos bienvenidos , la comida era increíble y algunas más de esas pequeñas sorpresas fabulosas foodie para añadir a la experiencia de Navidad. Una vez más todo el personal se vistió fabulosamente y de manera única. El chef salió a charlar sobre las ideas de comida que había inventado y algunos de los retos que había tenido perfeccionando sus ideas. Estamos deseando reservar nuestro día de Navidad 2025 tan pronto como la reserva esté disponible y entre hoy y entonces , vamos a estar visitando regularmente para el almuerzo del domingo porque esto también es un ganador al igual que el desayuno - ¿qué más puedo decir ? Estamos deseando ver lo que trae la nueva renovación y esperamos que mantenga la autenticidad que hace que este pub casual sea tan único.

Llegué para que nos dijeran que habían tenido problemas durante el día y habría una espera de al menos 45 minutos para nuestros 7 . 30 mesa disponible. La zona de espera estaba llena con 2 grupos grandes esperando para sentarse también, Podríamos sentarnos a la mesa en el bar, probamos esto, hacía frío y en medio de una gran fiesta de cumpleaños familiar. Nos fuimos, muy decepcionados

Came for Lunch & was pleasantly surprised. For a Thursday lunch time it seemed busy, we ordered food from the lunch menu which came in a reasonably good time. I had the steak sandwich which was beautifully cooked! There wasn’t one bit of chewy steak which is always a win - highly recommend. The staff were super friendly and fussed my dog lots - which is always a sign of a good country pub 👍🏼 will definitely be back to try the main menu next. And will be visiting in the summer to sit in the outside area as it looked beautiful. Thank you again

We only booked the afternoon of our visit and although the restaurant was fully booked, and we had a wheelchair user with us the team accommodated us in the bar area. The service was great, from the young lady behind the bar to the gentlemen that looked after us at our table. They're was a great choice on the menu, we had 3 meals off the Sunday lunch menu and 1 off the "normal" menu. All the food was really tasty and the portions were a great size. Nothing was too much trouble for the team and we will certainly be back for more excellent food and service

Having to wait for recovery truck for our car breaking down, we came here just to find somewhere for a coffee and to keep warm as the weather was well below freezing. Welcomed with a smile and very pleasant bar staff who made us feel very welcome. Had two coffees (really great coffee) and some toast and jam. Makes a pleasant change to find a cozy pub with a roaring log fire, with bar staff who were welcoming and polite. Will certainly drop in again if we come by in the future.

We had our work Christmas do here last night, large party of 18 or so. We had the Festive menu at £37 per head. We were given the menu to pre-order what each of us wanted, lovely descriptions of the food but no images, and how we were disappointed. Choices were four each of starters, mains and desserts. Starters - Soup, mackerel pate, pork belly or cheese souffle. The mackerel pate option was one piece of french koaf, sliced thinly, with a tablespoonful of mackerel and mayonnaise dumped on top, swimming in a tasteless green juice supposedly horseradish. It was literally two mouthfuls. It was a joke. Mains - Turkey Roast dinner, Beef Wellington, Chestnut Roast, Seafood crumble. I chose the beef wellington, imagining a nice slab of beef surrounded by a pastry crust, with all of the same roasties and veg included in the Turkey dinner, I just prefer Beef to Turkey. The description on the menu was "Pulled beef Wellington slow cooked brisket, wild mushrooms and Parma ham, wrapped in all-butter pastry, duck fat fondant potato, sticky red cabbage, red wine jus. What actually came out was PATHETIC. I attach a phot and you can make your own minds up. Not a slice of beef, but pulled brisket (tasted like tinned stewed steak) in cardboard, sorry, a pie casing the size of a mini steak pie that you boil. and a shaped piece of potato with a harder outside. A drizzle of red cabbage, no parma ham or mushroom in the 'Wellington' (wouldn't have improved it in any way whatsoever) and what was supposed to be a pea puree (teaspoon of) , which looked more like mashed spinach and was again, completely tasteless with a foul texture. I asked where the accompanying vegetables were and was told that there were none, this was the dish. Two mini pie shapes, one of tinned stewed steak and one of potato. That was it. DIS. GUST. INGGGGG. Poorly made, cooked, presented and absolutely no value for money - to the owners of the place - this probably cost about a pound to plate up and was an absolute joke - to call this cuisine of any sort is to hoodwink and con your customers. No sprouts, carrots, parsnips, roast potatoes, yorkshire - How the F is this a Festive Meal??? It was smaller than a child's meal, smaller even than the Soup starter! Beyond pathetic. I had to order a portion of mash and gravy just to be fed. That was the best part of my meal. I feel embarrassed for the staff who had to serve that as a dish and have to deal with the cries of "Are you joking???" and "Where's the vegetables??" Really you should be absolutely ashamed. Servers pleasant but mediocre service, plenty of items requested and forgotten, or a very long time coming, from drinks orders to sides and condiments. Nobody was really working hard until it came to clearing the table and then they couldn't move fast enough. Absolutely stunningly disappointing, can't believe businesses serve courses like that and hope to get away with it. Look at the pictures - disgusting and not value for money. We all went back to the Village and had fast food, chicken and chips from a takeaway bettered this offering and was better value for money. I'm absolutely livid that we chose to come here and ruined our own evening with this deception of a menu. Look at the Turkey dinner pic, bit of a mess presentation-wise but a normal portion, then look at the 'Beef Wellington' offering - that was all you got! Piss poor, ask to see the dish before you order, most of our dishes were small beyond belief except for the Turkey which was spread out to fill a plate. But to have no festive veg of any kind on a Festive Menu item - unbelievable.

Nice pub in a lovely location. Good selection of drinks. Had the belly pork main meal, portion was small, with no vegetables apart from a potato rostie and a bit of spinach, not value for money at £18.90. The meal was good, just not enough.

We held a 60th birthday celebration in the outside area. Very easy to book, Jason ensured our evening went without hitch. What a fantastic space, great staff, great food and looks good. All our guests were suitably impressed - thank you, Jason and the rest of the team.

Under whelmed. We hadn't visited since before lock down so really looking forward to the meal. Very average and didn't think it was worth the £90 for 2 mains and a bottle of wine unfortunately. Service was really good, just food let if down.
