Tucked away on Waterloo Street and almost hidden by scaffolding at the time of writing this review. Cosy, fairly small bar with an assortment of seating. Rotating selection of draft beer on 20 taps, roughly a third of which are normally Sommar's own beers brewed nearby plus a single fridge with a selection of cans. A fairly substantial selection of spirits with a cocktail menu and you can also grab a coffee. If you're an Utappd user you can check out their beer selection as they're a verified venue.

Local brew, great barman who gave me the full history when I asked about local beers. Definitely be back.

Great selection of beers in a great setting. The Thursday 4 1/3 pints for 3 1/3 pints offer is a great way to explore them!

Good range of craft beers, many brewed locally in Ladywood with many more from around the UK. The bar area looks great, stylish and contemporary. They have a comedy night on Mondays. Easy to find venue on Waterloo street in Birmingham city centre.

Good range of their own and guest beers. Styling is probably a bit more modern and cocktail bar like that you'd expect in a breweries own bar. Would definitely recommend.

A Sommar brewing taproom in the city centre. A good selection of draught beers at very reasonable prices and a good fridge selection of cans.Well worth a visit. Good tunes too..from the 80s to now...the inside I'd not wheelchair accessible but there is seating outside.

Lovely place - a lot of great beers to choose from, not too busy most of the time, friendly staff. Tuesday evenings people come here to play chess.

It's a shame that google doesn't understand what a fine ales bar is about. They rarely have extensive or even average food menus as people go there to try the beers! Wake up Google!! Beers, staff knowledge and ambience here was fabulous! Can't understand why it's not rammed to overflow evety day! Superb!!

Wonderful beer, really friendly staff and perfectly situated in Birmingham (great view when sat outside). It's just a shame that they played R&B all evening, but I guess that's my own personal taste. Would still go again though.

Great beer, even greater bartenders! The staff at Sommar really do go out of their way to make a brilliant atmosphere.

The beer was very nice however due to the structural integrity of the tables a pint of beer was spilt, this wasn’t an issue until the very abrupt and rude barman insulted me and the people that accompanied me. Several people had seen the accident and agreed that the employee was out of line. I will not repeat what was said from said person but it was very crude and nasty, I wish you luck to anyone that enters the Birmingham bar.

Came here for Eagans comedy on a Monday night, which was fun. Great drinks and good atmosphere.

March 2024: back again. Great selection of craft beers, sours and ciders! Still as good as it was 2 years ago. Really friendly and great service! Today (Thursday) was 4 thirds for the price of 3. Bargain! 8, 10, 12, 13 and 1, 12, 13, 15! Had the place to ourselves as it was early afternoon and requested some awesome 80's tunes! March 2022: If you miss this place out on your night out/beer crawl then you're definitely doing something wrong! Thursday night 'Flite Night'. It's a no brainer plus 20% off. Great craft ale, great service, friendly & knowledgeable servers! Even worth coming in on a schoolnight!Addition: came back on our second night. Would have been rude not to!

Absolutely wonderful selection of beers on offer. The barmaid was friendly and helpful and very attentive. The atmosphere was great thanks for a wonderful afternoon.

Attended the comedy evening. Comedy acts were great however the evening was completely let down by the bar staff. We ordered a lovely bottle of white wine however when we went to order another they had completely sold out of wine. This was on a quiet Wednesday evening with us plus 1 other table. The only other bottle of wine was a rose wine which we did not want and was more expensive than the original one we had. They refused to honour the price of the wine, were completely rude and made us feel like it was our fault they had completely sold out of wine. Poor customer service will not be revisiting, but really impressed with the talent of the comedy acts.

We have been to sommar on numerous occasions but sadly lately it’s been bad. We turned up few minutes before it opened and the guy behind the bar just waved to us so we thought great we will give him a few minutes to set up…. Then came the opening time and after another five minutes we decided not to wait any longer.. then we came back later on managed to get a drink in and a staff party of 30 came in and totally took over the whole bar. I think if they are going to take private functions it should just be closed to the public as it was that loud you couldn’t hear someone next to you speak, saw loads of people turning away… such a shame As we used to love it, seems to be the new weatherspoons of the craft beer world.

Loved this bar!! Came here during the German markets & decided to pop in for a beverage & ending up spending my night here instead. Great service, lovely vibe & a special mention to Lee! So personable & a true asset! Thank you for this experience

We had a lovely Saturday afternoon Birthday meal for 4 people. Great atmosphere, wonderful staff and good food/drinks.

Great city centre pub that offers craft ale and cocktails (coffee and tea also available). Staff are fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable on the range of ales on tap and in the fridge. Live music on Fridays and Saturdays is usually on. Highly recommended.

Henry and Jamie were welcoming and very attentive! We came in for a pint and as we were unsure Henry suggested a flight which was the perfect solution, good value for a range of beers. Good atmosphere and good beer, will be here again!

The beer at sommar is good but i wont be giving them my money and you shouldn’t either. I would to go to sommar waterloo after work and there was a friendly girl with tattoos I would talk to (I think she was the manager) After not seeing her the last time I went in I asked the guy behind the bar where she was. I was told she had left as she was assaulted by a customer after the company had told her she had to work alone (in a city centre bar?! ) and the company didnt do anything after and still expected her to work alone? I was shocked! This company clearly dont care about the staff (none of the staff who use to work there 6 months ago are still there btw). Like i said the beer is good but please thinking about giving your money to other birmingham beer venues who do care about the staff. They’re half the experience when you come to a bar

Excellent selection of beer and friendly staff. Unfortunately the air conditioning wasn't very effective.

Uninspiring box trying hard to be cool and failing with could not be bothered staff. Over priced too. Had a double that was told how much it was then the cola was added on top at payment stage that I had to get out the fridge and pour myself!!! Glammed up road side cafe at best. If social media made echo chambers this is it. Comedy night was the saving grace.

Felt more like a cafe than a bar when we visited on a Saturday afternoon. Mixed clientele of families and couples. The beer offering was very good with a nice selection of Sommar brewery beers and guests. Service was friendly but the atmosphere was a bit lacking, we only stayed for one drink before moving on.

Great friendly service. All craft tap beer, no hand drawn bitter. Not even a bottle in the fridge. Nice place but not for real ale drinkers

Really cool craft beer bar with lots of choice. Shame there aren’t more seats outside for nice weather but inside was a good temperature even during a hot day.

We have been to Sommar before and have had a nice time. On this occasion I tried a taster of an IPA. It tasted fine and bought two pints. By time the drinks had been served in pint glasses and sat down we both thought the beer tasted very bad. I explained this to the staff and asked for an exchange. I was told that we could not exchange the beer because we had had a taster and it was too expensive. I have very little idea why the beer tasted so bad once it had been served. Could the glasses have been dirty? Could the beer we were served in the pints glasses have been bad? This has never happened before in 20 years of drinking to me or my friend. We were told that we would not get an exchange in any other bar also. We weren't sure of this and decided not to take the risk with Sommar and went somewhere else. I wouldn't recommend going to Sommar to anyone else and try your luck somewhere else.

Nice brewery pub at the city center, with a large beer and drink collection. Additional points for a free standup club on Mondays!

Ive visited Sommar Brewery over next to Lego Land and enjoyed it. So stopped of here on New Years Eve before meeting friends. Staff were helpful, in helping me choose a drink, I had Bringing Rishi Back. Great ale which I recommend to anyone visiting Sommar Nice comfy modern decor inside, and great location

Small brewery bar with a lot of different beers on the go, from light pales to strong darks. Bar itself is nice and chilled out, nice lighting and comfortable. Was caught out by them hopping one of their stouts, which should be illegal, but otherwise great

A great newish and much needed addition to the Birmingham craft beer scene. Comfortable sorroundings and very sociable staff made for a very pleasant Sunday evening. Craft beers can be very much hit and miss and some of them can be as strong as wine so choose with care. Unusually they offer several options regarding the measures of beer which I think is a great idea.

Great selection of taps, poor service. We were visiting from the states and went to meet a friend here. One woman was very pleasant but the bar manager was pretty hostile and created an uncomfortable environment (perhaps that was her intention?) We found another spot across the street that was amazing, another great selection of beer and also had food.

Absolutely amazing staff. I was really low on battery and was offered a charger by one of them. This was genuinely a very comfy place to have drinks at but the fact that I was offered to charge my phone in such a sweet way was a really nice gesture. Thank you again!

Great beer selection and decor. I tried nearly all Sommar beers (except the 2 sours) and didn't find one I'd try again (all too bitter) but it wouldn't put me off trying more as the 20 lines of beer is excellent.🍻

Great place for craft ale, must of had about 16+beers, selection available is displayed on a tv top right corner of the bar. Staying name, type, strength, brewery and origin. They will let you sample a taster before you buy. Bonus to get a table outside and chill on a sunny day.

Absolutely stellar service. Was served by Josh today and he helped me through every step of trying new beers I hadn't even considered trying before. Very knowledgeable staff, plenty of options and overall a fantastic location!

Great bar! Gets really busy, could easily be several times bigger. Great selection of beers on draught with loads of taps. The fridge for drink in or takeaway always has a great choice. The staff are lovely, always really friendly. We've been many times now and have been made welcome since day one. The regular tap takeovers are a very welcome edition!

Great new addition to Birmingham City centre bars. Excellent location, nice deco, very welcoming and comfortable. Obviously a strong craft beer selection but an impressive gin and cocktail list too. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Once the coffee machine is up and running i will be giving it a 5 🌟 rating! I wish the team every success.

A comfortable, cool speciality beer bar. Albert Schloss is surprisingly busy on a Thursday evening. Being old and in need of a quieter environment to chat to my friend we searched for an alternative. Sommar with its pink neon attracted us in. On entering, the psychedelic colours of the couches immediately took my attention. Cool, modern interior decorations are found throughout. The inglorious centrepiece though is its selection of craft beers, of which there are many. Details of each beer can be ascertained from the big screen at the back of the bar. My friends and I sat in comfort as a selection of British classic rock tunes mellowly played in the back ground. A really cool ambiance. We stayed for a couple of hours catching up on life, enjoying each other’s company in comfort.

Welcome addition to the city centre craft scene. Great location, excellent beer board and fridge stocked with lots of high quality cans. Relaxed vibe and Instagram worthy decor.

Came back from a day out drinking in Sheffield and decided to pop in the Sommar Tap when I got back,,well worth popping in as the best beer I had that day was in the Sommar Tap,, liked it that much, that when I moved onto another bar,, I was telling everyone to go to the Sommar Tapto have the beer I highly recommended

Just opened, expanding from their smaller place under the NIA. Nice decor, cool music loud enough to enjoy but not so loud that it drowns conversation, and excellent beer. This is a good addition to other good city centre bars such as the Colmore or the L&F, and the very best of luck to Sommar with it. They've got a good vibe going on here, and the staff are smart and fun.
