Shockingly bad service, filthy pub with tables loaded with crockery remember to wipe your feet on the way out. Won't be back. Sack the manager

We were on our way to Middlesbrough and decided to stop at Northallerton for breakfast as we past through. The Buck Inn was the destination, yet another addition to the Wetherspoons portfolio. Opened after lockdown by Rishi Sunak, we didn’t hold that against the place and visited anyway. We were hungry and held no grudges. It was 8:30am and breakfast was calling our name. We weren’t certain if it was the bacon we could hear or the withered sausage. Either way, we were going in… The pub is a big old unit, with plenty of room to move around, a large seating area outside and the usual fifteen-mile hike to find a toilet. We ordered our morning feasts from a server who was clearly a little underwhelmed to have drawn the morning shift on a weekend. If he was happy to be there, he hadn’t told his face. Still, he took the order, begrudgingly. The food arrived safter a short wait and was typical Wetherspoons fare. Bacon sat on the blue and white plates. It had been grilled at some point but had substantially cooled down by the time it arrived alongside a tired looking sausage. The helping of baked beans needed exactly that. Help. The skin coating the portion needed a steak knife to carve through it break through to the legumes beneath. Poached eggs that were harder than a crow with a baseball bat were boiled to the point of no return. It was breakfast, it was edible, it was beyond average. Still, when we arrived in Middlesbrough, we soon wished we were back at The Buck.

We went there a week or two ago and we both really had our heart set on a pie. They don't do them! Ended up going home and having a supermarket one. Anyway whatever there's plenty of other stuff to eat there and we went again for a drink primarily tonight and were open to picking out whatever. I am on a bit of a health vibe lately and when you look at the calories for the meals it's like a days worth in a meal. We were on the fence about eating there at all but decided to try their burger. We only went with the simple 'American cheese burger' just as a basic test. We ordered at the bar the person I was with went to the bathroom and I sat at the table and pulled out m phone (as you do). Before I was even able to check an email the food was delivered literally a minute after ordering. It was obviously cold and a pretty pathetic example of a burger. They clearly just have burgers lined up sitting ready to be chucked out at the customer ASAP. Because of this means I wont be ordering anything again that's even supposed to be better. There's a McDonalds up the road if I want a junk cold burger that's been sitting for however long. Oh and there are no ribs on the menu like there used to be. If drinks weren't cheap(er) then why would you even go?

Ordered off the app. and waited for the cups to arrive, really needed a coffee. Blonde/brown haired woman walks over to the table next to ours and 'plonks' the cups down and walks away. The man sat at the table was bemused. His wife returns to the table with their drinks, so obviously the cups should have been ours. I had to go over to that table and ask if they were theirs, they were not. Blond/brown haired woman didn't know the table numbers !!!! I went to the drinks machines to find one not working, the whole area was dirty and the working machine only had a few choices. I got two coffees, one was okay, mine on the other hand should have been a flat white - turned out it was a black coffee - no milk. Breakfasts arrived on cold plates. The staff looked miserable. Unfortunately, the whole experience was poor.

Typical JD Wetherspoons eatery, it could have and should have been better, the food was OK but it was not hot and a little bit of me thinks that it wasn't all freshly cooked. Not a lot more to say except that some people will think it's great, but for me Wetherspoons have tailed off recently and it is nowhere near as good as they once were, they need to get back to providing the level of quality they used to provide.

We call in here many times for a quick bite to eat and its usually spot on, called in last night, ordered two jacket potatoes, the salad that accompanied it was limp brown and inedible, no staff available immediately to complain to so continued to eat the potato to prevent it going cold, someone came to ask if our meal was ok, I said apart from the disgusting salad it was! I was asked if i'd like to wrap the salad in a napkin and she would bring me some more! no point as just about finished my potato and certainly did not want it from the same batch!concerns me that salad very much by its best was even sent out by staff, should have been in the bin! after I turned down the offer of more salad I just got a "sorry about that" staff member then just walked off.

Wetherspoons have recently renovated the Buck Inn in Northallerton. Initial impression is that it looks good inside and out. However after 4 visits in the last 6 weeks I find it's consistently difficult to find a table or chairs that are clean. The bar staff are too overwhelmed to respond to requests to send someone out with a cloth so you just have to accept sticky chairs and eating/drinking from a table which you'll have to wipe yourself. A shame. As is typical with Wetherspoons, the menu is varied and good value and at the Buck it's served quickly and is cooked well. But it's just not good enough to have to sit in filth. I'll be giving the Buck a rest for a while and hope things improve.

Ordered a mug for myself and it was help yourself and didn’t know how to use it. I asked the young lady on the bar if she would be able to help me, she came over and helped, she was very friendly. I asked her name and she said it was ‘ Kaitlynne’ she was super helpful. Smashing member of the team. Will definitely be returning again!!

The recently renovated Buck Inn is a welcome addition to a sometimes disappointing pub/restaurant offer in Northallerton. It's been excellently restored as a Wetherspoons, and looks good both inside and out. Thought I'd leave it a while, well, 2 months, after it launched, in order for the teething issues to be resolved. Chose a quiet Monday lunchtime for a first visit, hoping that there would be few problems. As it was a hot day, the excellent beer garden was the first point of call for a few drinks. Sadly this was accompanied by the usual unsupervised children charging around between tables, and smokers lighting up in the clearly marked 'no smoking' areas, much to the annoyance of nearby diners. Passing staff didn't seem bothered. Inside for lunch, not too many tables occupied, but found it difficult to find one that was clean. Eventually ordered food & drinks at the bar, as the app doesn't take special requests, such as ''well done' fried eggs, and only minimal ice with a gin. The bar staff seemed to be a bit overwhelmed, as ordering seemed to take an age, and as a result, they had no idea who was next in line to be served spread across the bar area as the queue built up. Food and drinks arrived fairly quickly, but sadly the eggs were extremely runny, and the gin glass was overflowing with ice, so the special requests were ignored anyway, I could have just used the app, it'd have been much quicker. I know it's a 'spoons, and we should know what to expect, but with a bit of attention to detail, it could be so much better. They'd even run out of baked beans, how does this happen?!! Still, the food was hot, and as ever, great value. But with a few minor tweaks , it could be so much better.

Website says offers takeaway: no menu can be found online (so we ordered what we assumed they'd have) and they don't offer delivery. What was reslly disappointing is you could only pay with cash- they did not inform us of this on the phone when ordering, so we had to go to the nearest cash point (3 miles away). The food was fine, but a bit more information online would have led to a much better experience.
